Doug said in an interview that "we're special, in other ways, way mothers appreciate." Was something his wife said as a joke. Kind of like how in the United States we say "a face only a mother could appreciate" as a way to call someone ugly. None of us are perfect, and our imperfections can only be appreciated by our mothers. Great lyrics, very witty. 😂
Hey, thank you so much for doing this. This is my favorite album of all time and am so glad to see someone finally react to it. One of those albums that similarly hit hard for me on the first listen, but continued to hit harder after deciphering the lyrical content and how well the music mirrors the themes of each song. Its definitely a well regarded album for those that follow a lot of indie but I'd still say underrated and slightly forgotten by time for what is such a masterfully created and honestly beautiful album.
Scott Plouf, the drummer, was brilliant on this album using very sublte shifts in timing mixed with a stripped down compositional approach. There is not a single unnecessary beat on that entire album but he keeps it driving and interesting nonetheless enhancing Martshe's guitars but overplaying on top of them.
Built to spill for me is the band of my life, they are amazing, Particularly Doug, I love guitars, riffs, voice, I believe they were the most underrated band of all time. thank you Luggo subscribing to your channel, until the next video. here from Brazil
ah it was kiwi mad dog thank you again :D had a lot of fun with this album! also I am planning another Elliott Smith reaction with some "lost" tracks, very excited!
I am going to highly recommend the album Keep it Like a secret. Much tighter and a lot better songwriting in my opinion. I saw them live like 20 years ago. Great band.
This album would be considered many other bands' "Greatest Hits."
