I sold my tickets for Depeche Mode to see NIN. Even though NIN rocked as expected, they played for only 45 minutes because Trent Reznor got pissed off at one of the band members and launched a guitar at his head. I wish I would have not sold my Depeche Mode tickets but I still love NIN.
NIN has always been Trent Reznor plus a rotating cast of musicians on different albums and tours. In the 2010’s he added Atticus Ross from 12 rounds as the only actual other permanent member of NIN.
If you take this album as a whole because it's a concept album, you appreciate EVERY song as a chapter and don't put any of them down. Also Nine Inch Nails started as strictly and solo was Trent in studio and a band live. Then you read the liner notes on all the album and see that different people are brought in here and there for drum or guitar performances on albums.
Trent reznor does it all , by the way coming from a die hard NIN fan since my mid teens and im almost 50 now , NIN has always been my fave , you can ask me anything about trent . And i would defiantly check out BROKEN by Nine inch nails , its his second work just before the downward spiral
Dope!! Dudee you should also react to the second album The Fragile, that album in my opinion is Trent Reznor's magnum opus it has everything with instrumentation and writing. Plus not too many people have reacted to that masterpiece😭 keep up the good work!
This is what I would say is the meaning behind each song: Mr. Self Destruct: Basically introducing the bad side of the main character and all their demons Piggy: Someone leaving him and him going fuck it I don't need anyone now because nothing can stop me now Heresy: Losing faith in God and just getting mad at him March of the Pigs: It was really a song about his fans but could be referenced for anyone that's just trying to leach off you Closer: Trying to numb the pain with sex but just feeling dirty in the process and hating yourself for it Ruiner: Basically Mr. Self Destruct 2.0 but hurting everyone else in the process The Becoming: Losing your humanity and becoming a numb machine I Do Not Want This: Reflecting back on everything that's happened so far and just not wanting it Big Man With A Gun: Saying fuck it and just trying to be as degenerate as you can and just overall being a terrible person A Warm Place: The last little sence of humanity slowly slipping away Eraser: I would say it's, well erasing that last part 😂 and just hating the monster you've become Reptile: Closer 2.0 but now you also hate the person you're sleeping with The Downwars Spiral: Killing yourself Hurt: Reflecting on everything and wishing you could take it back
Love NIN it is the Metallica of industrial music. That is to say that Trent perfected the sound. If you like Metallica and Slayer in metal then listen to NIN and Skinny Puppy in the same way
NIN great choice (my fave band) and you should definitely check their other albums too (in your free time if u like). Very interesting stuff and every album has a slightly different vibe to it. Fun fact: Trent Reznor (frontman) also did some music for videogames back in the day. ;)
Industrial is just a weird and wild genre in which even the bands that are clumped together sound nothing alike.....like Skinny Puppy, COIL, and Ministry, Klinik, Front 242, Foetus, Einstruzende Neubauten and i would throw SWANS and Controlled Bleeding as well. They all are great though.
Excellent intro list of bands for the newer listeners, sweet...since I'm an elderly, doddering Gen-X bitch who's been creamimg over this genre 4 decades, wanna add bands: Throbbing Gristle, Laibach, Current 93 & bless Rob Zombies little wicked heart 🖤 4 another 20+ yrs of embracing& expanding the Musick ❤
