@@martinseal1733 cheapest way of doing it is to by a backpack from Gardiner pole supplies which which are about £100. These contain pump, controller and hose but I’m not sure if that would be a high enough flow. If you were going for a full set up you can get pumps with higher flow rates. For a high flow pump and controller it’s about £250 you then need a tank and battery + hose fittings so you are probably looking at around £500 minimum depending on flow, size of the tank you need etc
Hi mate I currently started using an ro system connected to my outside tap but the psi is only coming out at 25psi and alot of people have said you need to be at least 50 psi for it to work properly is there any purpose pumps or ideas ya could suggest to boost my psi thanks
I've watched all of your basic setup vids to create zero TDS water and I feel pretty confident about that. My question for your would be if I am going to store water in a reservoir (because I can't make 0 TDS water fast enough with the RO/DI setup) and I going to feed a Pressure washer for washing cars, will I need a second pump to feed 2 GPM to the pressure washer, or should gravity be enough to feed the pressure washer? If I need a pump, I would assume I should also include a controller with a dead end to shut that pump down when I don't have the trigger pushed on the pressure washer? Can you confirm for me?
Hi Jeff Thats a great question and to be honest im not really sure. My pressure washer will draw its own water from a container but I know not all will. the pumps we use for window cleaning run at 1 GPM so they wouldn't be enough for your pressure washer. I know you can get higher GPM pumps but im not sure if the controllers would match them or if you would need a controller with a higher output. Hope you find your answer.
Hi Dave, im just starting my business. Please can you advise what is the model of the Shurflo pump? As when im looking online they all say there desiged for motor homes and caravans. Is that the right one? Thanks
Best thing to do is to search window cleaning supplies and see what they bring up as you know it will definitely be the correct one and there are other makes as well
Im looking to set up my own company in ireland here, this video helped me get an idea of whats needed, how much do you reckon all this costs on average? Is there things you have to replace often?
Most of this equipment lasts once you have it as long as you look after it. A ball park figure on the price would depend on what tank, hose reel pump and controller battery you have but you are probably looking at around £600. That doesn’t include pole, brush or filtration though
@@squeakycleandave1 thanks my other van never used one it was just a battery wire from the main to another halfords car battery then onto the pump, just not sure what they used as its someone else's set up
@@markgooding8131 I know it depends on what type of van you have but you normally would have a split charger or a battery to battery charger. You can have a wire directly but I wouldn’t. With the split charger or battery to battery charger it stop you from drawing power back from your main battery so if you are on a big job it’s never going to drain your main battery. It also makes sure your van battery is charged before it switches over to charge your leisure battery You will need to find out what kind of charger your van needs. If it’s a split you could get something like this. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-mtr-Split-Charge-Kit-12V-140Amp-Voltage-Sense-Relay-110amp-cable-T4-T5-/202499940400?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286

Phil Walmsley hi Phil. Sorry it’s taken so long to reply but I couldn’t remember so I had to check and today was the first chance I had. In answer to your question yes the backpack does dead end so can be used with a uni-valve
Dave, when you connected the red to brown wire which one of the red wires from the pump did you use, the one nearest the camera or tip of pump clip in or the back one closest to the inline water feed clip in?? If it's the front one then I have it connected to a plug in alongside the black wire then would need to splice it. If it's the other that one is connected from the back side of the pump I'd have to splice and join it three ways.
The red and black wire both come out of the metal and pf the pump furthest from the camera. The red then comes down to a contact which is nearest to the camera in the plastic part. Another red then comes out of the plastic part just slightly higher up then where it goes in. This is where you connect the controller. The plastic part at the end of the pump is the pressure switch. hope this makes sense. if not feel free to give me a call
@@squeakycleandave1 thanks for your reply but I want to make sure I got this right. I have a North Star pump, the red and black wires that come from the back side of the pump goes as follows, the red which comes from the back is connected to the pressure switch but is the second plug in from the front going going back. The other red wire is connected to the plug in but is the front one closest to the camera and runs off to join the black wire (connected together) to a wire harness that plugs directly into the battery. Are you saying the red one that comes from the back of the pump and plugs into the pressure switch 2nd from camera is the one I use to connect the controller?

A Dave. Wondering using a waterfed pole with a shut off such as a pinch in the line to shut off the flow does the pump reset or turn off and wait for the pressure to go down to restart? Or does the pump shut down and need to reset I plan on buy a shurflo with a pressure switch for this reason. Not sure what dead end means
the shut off for the pump is best. worked through the controller as this extends the life of the pump and makes it work more efficiently. Check out this video explaining dead ends. ua-cam.com/video/mTBbco7c15U/v-deo.html

Can't help but wonder how the controller controls the amount of litres per minute? - the pump doesn't have any feedback signal wire, it just seems to be a analogue voltage output (or pulsed maybe) but designed to carry high currents that would fry a transistor. From what i can work out, it's not litres per minute but a voltage controller showing a percentage up to the maximum?

Hi mate I currently started using an ro system connected to my outside tap but the psi is only coming out at 25psi and alot of people have said you need to be at least 50 psi for it to work properly is there any purpose pumps or ideas ya could suggest to boost my psi thanks
Dave, what size fuse did you use on this? I'm looking to put in a 70amp batt. Thank you!
Hi Gemma
It’s a 7.5amp fuse that comes with a basic V16 controller
great
uniteallaction thanks for watching 👍
A link to the parts would be helpful but still a useful video
I've watched all of your basic setup vids to create zero TDS water and I feel pretty confident about that. My question for your would be if I am going to store water in a reservoir (because I can't make 0 TDS water fast enough with the RO/DI setup) and I going to feed a Pressure washer for washing cars, will I need a second pump to feed 2 GPM to the pressure washer, or should gravity be enough to feed the pressure washer? If I need a pump, I would assume I should also include a controller with a dead end to shut that pump down when I don't have the trigger pushed on the pressure washer? Can you confirm for me?
Hi Jeff
Thats a great question and to be honest im not really sure.
My pressure washer will draw its own water from a container but I know not all will.
the pumps we use for window cleaning run at
1 GPM so they wouldn't be enough for your pressure washer.
Thanks
Best thing to do is to search window cleaning supplies and see what they bring up as you know it will definitely be the correct one and there are other makes as well
@@squeakycleandave1 Thanks Dave, please can you advise where you got the 12v inline fuse from with the crocidile clips? Cant find them anywhere.
That doesn’t include pole, brush or filtration though
hi mate many thanks for the great video, what wiring/amp power would you use to go from main battery to the 2nd add on battery please
It depends on your split charger on how much power it’s delivering
@@squeakycleandave1 thanks my other van never used one it was just a battery wire from the main to another halfords car battery then onto the pump, just not sure what they used as its someone else's set up
@@markgooding8131 I know it depends on what type of van you have but you normally would have a split charger or a battery to battery charger. You can have a wire directly but I wouldn’t.
With the split charger or battery to battery charger it stop you from drawing power back from your main battery so if you are on a big job it’s never going to drain your main battery. It also makes sure your van battery is charged before it switches over to charge your leisure battery
You will need to find out what kind of charger your van needs. If it’s a split you could get something like this.

Hi Dave, I am using a vyair RO-600 to filter my water, if my pressure is low which booster pump would you recommend? I'm just starting so trying to keep cost down...thanks alot for your help, Rob....
Hi Rob
This is the one I have but might not be the best for you

@@squeakycleandave1 yes that looks a good one but a little pricey...thanks for the swift response though. I need to source one a little cheaper......
Most switches, including the ones you displayed, have a voltage display built in, you don't need a separate volt meter with these switches.
MrBazinger that’s a very good point. Because I had already got my volt meter fitted and it’s on all the time without pushing any buttons I tend to forget the spring controllers have them👍
Hi dave do u have a link to the stuff thats needed?
Does the psi of the shurflo pump make a massive difference dave?
I would have thought the higher the Pam the more water it would push through
Hi Dave, hope you’re keeping well?
On our shurflo pump we use the supplied butterfly right angle connectors. These leak when moved slightly. Could you recommend an alternative?
It’s the same size thread as a hose lock tape connector which I think is 1/2”
Can you put a likk for right fittings to connect onto pump to have hozelock connections on. i always order wrong sizes
thanks
This comes with 2 sizes. Off the top of my head I can’t remember which one it is but you get both
www.screwfix.com/p/hozelock-threaded-outdoor-tap-connector/52973
My pump isn’t making the noise anymore and fuse are good . What else could be wrong ? Pump was working great
Check that the controller is working ok and see what the display says.
Make sure it isn't frozen and that there is power going to it.
How are you my friend hope you can help I have a window cleaning trolley I bore a pump a 130 psi To go on it The pump keep burning out Not working properly 3 pumps in 3 weeks
Hi Dave wondering if you could help me how do I connect the hoselock to each end of my pump my pump doesn’t seem to have any ?
Hi Paul.
Most pumps have a threaded inlet and outlet. This thread is the same size as the Hozelock style tap connector so will screw straight on. You can the connect onto this with your hozelock fittings

@@squeakycleandave1 the is for the reply Dave really appreciate it mate the pump I’ve bought wasn’t a sure flow pump cheaper one with 100psi but the inlet n outlet part is too small for hoselock I even bought hoselock reducer still too small will have too get a bit of hose or something to fit it 👍🏻
Great video Dave, our of interest, do you know if the Gardiner backpack can be used with a univalve, in other words will it deadend or not?
Phil Walmsley hi Phil. Sorry it’s taken so long to reply but I couldn’t remember so I had to check and today was the first chance I had.
In answer to your question yes the backpack does dead end so can be used with a uni-valve
@@squeakycleandave1 thanks so much for taking the time to reply and taking time to check that out👍😁
Phil Walmsley my pleasure 👍
Hi dave, probably a stupid question! Do you need to ground the leisure battery to the van? Thanks
Hi Jamie
I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think so but it wouldn’t hurt to just in case
Maybe a stupid question but can you run the pump of a generator?
Dave, when you connected the red to brown wire which one of the red wires from the pump did you use,
the one nearest the camera or tip of pump clip in or the back one closest to the inline water feed clip in??
I have a North Star pump, the red and black wires that come from the back side of the pump
goes as follows, the red which comes from the back is connected to the pressure switch but is the second
plug in from the front going going back. The other red wire is connected to the plug in but is the front
one closest to the camera and runs off to join the black wire (connected together) to a wire harness
that plugs directly into the battery. Are you saying the red one that comes from the back of the pump and
plugs into the pressure switch 2nd from camera is the one I use to connect the controller?
@@DrHurtYou it’s hard to picture as I’ve never seen a North Star pump so I can’t really advise. You would probably be best if you ring Spring who make the pumps as they should be able to help

Hi mate, great video. Did those extra wires you used at 7:39 come with the controller? Or where did you get them? Find the channel really interesting, keep it up mate

Does the pump need to be lower than the tank?I'm fitting a 400ltr tank in van and not sure if I need to raise the tank so the pump can be lower ?
Rob and dawn jowett my pumps is about 6” above the bottom of my tank. The only time I ever have a problem is if the tank is completely empty and I such in some air but even then when you fill the tank it normally starts up no problem.
Years ago I did have my pump on top of the wheel arch and I did get airlocks then

I just ordered the new abc 2 controller seems good as it has the dead end and polarity protection all for £60

How many gallons per minute pump should I use ?

Not sure what it works out to but I us a 5 litres a minute 100 psi pump buy Shutflo

Just wanted to know what amp is the fuse for set up, i mean the rate of the fuse amp
Please let me know
Thanks
It all depends on what pump and controller you are using
It all depends on what pump and controller you are using

Quick question,I’ve taken my split charge relay off my system as I need to swap it over to another van,the battery is earthed to the side of the van,I plan to just trickle charge the leisure, will this be ok simply with the positive and negative?? No earth required right?
I’m not an electrical expert but I’m pretty sure that you are right
By the way I love your thumbnail photos 👍
Can't help but wonder how the controller controls the amount of litres per minute? - the pump doesn't have any feedback signal wire, it just seems to be a analogue voltage output (or pulsed maybe) but designed to carry high currents that would fry a transistor. From what i can work out, it's not litres per minute but a voltage controller showing a percentage up to the maximum?
I don’t understand it either. That’s why they make controllers and I don’t 👍
