Dude I love to watch your videos, about 15 to 20 mins is the perfect video lenght I think. Keep up the great work, you motivate us to take good care of our cars
So wait - you put a protective film over the entire thing, then ceramic coat OVER it? That's like that SNL "Commercial" with the taco that gets wrapped in the burrito that gets wrapped in a pizza etc, freaking cool!
How long do you wait to apply the ceramic coating after the PPF? Does it need to be there a day to let the PPF fully adhere or can you do the ceramic coating the same day?
Film goes down first. A ceramic coating is the protection layer for the parts of the car without film. A ceramic coating goes on top of the film to help extend the life of the film and make it easier to maintain.
Paint Protection film is about $2k for the full front end, Ceramic coating is $800- $1,595, and window tint is around $149- $650 depending on how many windows your getting done and what kind of film.
Howard Lee I agree on that. My FSD is all nice and fancy and recognizes mailboxes and garbage cans, stop signs and even stop lights ( but not until you're right on top of them and light is changing). HW3.0 . Elon's got a loooong way to go before we see actual fully automated RoboTaxi. I mean a long way to go. I paid $5000 but now it's up to $7000 and he's just stated it's going higher.
I have a question. I live in NJ and have a local detailer who is going to put PPF Highway Package on my new Model Y once I get it and Ceramic Coat the rest. He says he typically doesn’t ceramic coat OVER the PPF. He says he feels it interferes with the self healing properties of it. I see most detailers do put the Ceramic coating over the entire vehicle whether it has PPF or not. Just an FYI, he recommends 3M Paint Protection Pro and uses Opti-Coat Pro or Pro + for Ceramic Coating. He does also use Expel and Suntek PPF if I wanted. He will put the ceramic coating over if I want but it’s something he doesn’t typically recommend. I want to ask your opinion since you’re too far away for me to visit. I just would like your honest opinion and tell me what you think of his not recommending to put Ceramic coating over PPF. Also what are your thoughts in his brand of choice of 3M? I love your videos and information. It’s exciting when a new one comes out. I wish you were closer. He is charging $1700 for the highway package of PPF and $1000 to ceramic coat the entire vehicle. He has a great reputation and his shop is immaculate and I’ve seen his work. He does a lot of high end vehicles and I as much as I don’t want to spend another $3000 to make my first and very expensive Tesla Model Y stay pristine, I just wanted an honest opinion. Thanks.
What’s your plan for when a Cybertruck rolls in? No paint to clay and polish or put protective film over. How is it supposed to be taken care of? (Asking because I have one on pre-order and need to know how to keep it protected and looking good.)
After power washing it, wipe it down with a clean rag with WD 40. If somehow it gets a scratch, use Scotch-Brite on it. For something crazy deep (that would dent other vehicles) use metal grinder then polishers to return to normal look.
Teslas are beatifull cars, design is much different from others, hopefully these new factories which are much better optimized and designed will improve build and paint quality :p
Have you guys ever considered putting together a detailing clinic specifically for car dealership lot tech’s? I can’t tell you how many times I see a lot tech walking around with a filthy microfiber… usually hanging out of their back pockets. My last 2 cars were very poorly prepped from the dealership and that’s mostly on the lot tech’s. I’ll bet the local dealerships in the Chicago area would pay to send them to train for the afternoon because I don’t think they get very good instruction.
Chicago Auto Pros Really? Not even Audi or Porsche? Sad. I think if more people raised he’ll when new cars were delivered to them scratched & swirled, they’d care. Most people probably have blinders on when taking delivery & maybe don’t notice the imperfections until weeks later. More business for you guys, though! Hey one last question… if people take a car straight to you with all the plastic still on it, are they responsible for any damage you guys find because the dealership didn’t do an inspection? Or is there a process where they can get the dealership to cover the cost to correct bad paint?
@@SamVance yes even the high end dealerships. There are some out there who do care and have knowledgeable detailing staff, but the majority do not. What's even worse is a dealership with an automatic car wash. I have visited several of them and they are doing their customers such a dis service with the crappy bristle brush equipment. Take the plastic off yourself at the dealership and inspect it. Just remember that no car is perfect, but if there is any major flaw's they should fix it. The only time we recommend contacting the dealership to have them pay for correction is when we see that they had someone attempt to detail it and they did more damage than good (and it happens too often).
Another common practice at dealerships is lot washes. They have a few guys come by with a pressure washer and rinse down the cars and dry with shammys. Imagine a new car sitting on the lot for a couple months getting a lot wash every week.
Awesome video. You guys should make a "new car" package. It will have the wash, polish, paint protection film, coatings, and whatever else is typically done just like what you had to do with this Tesla. Obviously some cars won't need as much in labor so the estimates would be different each time.
That is mostly what we do here. Every car is different so It's hard to put a general package together, we consult with each client and build their custom package based on their wants, needs and expectations.
Wow, amazing work! How long did this process take? Also, would the window ceiling in the Y need a ceramic tint? Been hearing it lets a lot of heat in from Model Y owners.
Great work. People do need to start refusing deliveries with obvious issues. Might light a fire under Tesla’s ass to finally get their paint shop/panel fit issues sorted.
I just cant believe that a car came like that, idk about in America but here in the UK we would have simply refused delivery. Im picking up a Mercedes a35 in September, if it even has 1 scuff mark im not taking it until its fixed.

Ah, ceramic coatings. I love that. ^_^ I get a ceramic coating done each spring. But I know almost nothing about PPF except it's some kind of protective plastic film against stones and stuff. I might ask for it to be done to the front like in the video when I'm getting my coating. :-)
Fixing Tesla paint, back to the paint booth. Horrible quality and production control. I saw the welds on a P series and I could do better and I've never picked up a stick.

Chicago Auto Pros when you say a coating is $800+ does that price include the cost of correction? If not how do you not lose the client when you tell them the correction price? It is sooooo damn hard for me to sell a coating I have not yet sold one. It doesn’t seem all that hard, I have watched a ton of videos on it and you just need to be careful and smart
I'm I the only one who wanted this video to be longer?!? 😁
Funny how the car looks amazing when it first rolls in, but then under those lights- uh oh! Great work, vehicle looks awesome!
Everything looks good in the dark. 🤣
Started my own detailing business, and I’m learning more and more from you guys. Thank you!
This videos were mostly my inspiration to start in this bussines I really like how you big you get your bussines!!
Quick question, what compound, pad, and polish combo do you guys prefer on Teslas?

I saw the Rupes 3 inch mini but what was that red 3 inch polisher you guys were using?
With your RaceDeck. I know you have a drain system but do you pull them out to clean them and the concrete underneath them every once and a while?
Is it necessary to put the ceramic coating after the paint protection film?
what do you put on the black trim to protect that, i hear the black trim/door handles get affected by water and elements and over time looks weird
Bingo!!! Looks better than what came out of the factory.
what did you use to polish the car before ceramic?
what products you use for paint correctiond
When you remove the badges while doing a ceramic coating, what adhesive do you use to put them back on afterwards?
How long do you wait to apply the ceramic coating after the PPF? Does it need to be there a day to let the PPF fully adhere or can you do the ceramic coating the same day?
Does the PPF affect the ultrasonic sensors and radar for Autopilot?
Can’t wait to open a shop like yours one day, maybe on a smaller scale.
You will not regret it, I love being able to do what I love everyday.
Tadas is back !!! I do miss seeing the OG of CAP... Will, Tadas, etc.
How much did this specific Tesla Y cost?
How much do this treatment cost, and do you know a good shop in Michigan ?
Would you recommend doing PPF on the A pillars on a MY? Not a partial A pillar but the entire thing back to the hatch.
some of the OG's back in the clip 100% like
Would you reccomend ceramic coating and then film protection on top? Would you put film ptotection on top of wrapping? Thanks.
Film goes down first. A ceramic coating is the protection layer for the parts of the car without film. A ceramic coating goes on top of the film to help extend the life of the film and make it easier to maintain.

$3k

If i knew Tesla uses soft paint and scratches that easily, I'd spent money on protection intead of the useless FSD.

So PPF for the front then ceramic coat on the non PPF parts?
Great video!
Quick comment - I thought it was illegal to put tint on the front windshield in Illinois. Is the 80% tint you put on legal?

What brand/model air dryer do you use/recommend? Also, can you recommend a comparable detailer to yourself but in Southern California? Thank you.
woah love to see tesla coming out this perfect

I cannot find that map or list of dealers on that website.
May I ask why the PPF goes on before paint correction?

How do you make sure the logo is properly centered when you put it back on the hood?
The Model Y has a centering hole.

How long does the PPF last?
It will last as long as you take care of it. It has a 10 year warranty.
Short sweet video to the point. Make more videos like this and not like 22 mins long. Keep up the great work
LOL, everyone else wants longer one's. Can't make everyone happy.
What did you guys do to fix the chipping/lifting paint on the front trunk?
We peeled it back a bit, used a little touch up paint to try to make it even and wrapped the film around it.
Just buy a different car from a company that knows how to paint, like all the rest.
Great job guys 👏🏽
