Thank you for choosing The Gold Standard Polishing System!
Great video. One other thing I really love about that gold standard polish is the fact that it does not harm or discolor the trip/plastic. You don't have to tape them off which saves time for sure.
I did some beta testing for DIY detailing products... very happy with them and have already placed a few orders with them,
That diy product line looks great! Can’t wait to try it out sometime
Awesome results. Good to know that the DIY polish and pad combo was able to get the Tesla dialed in for the coating. Now I know what to get for my Nephew’s Model 3.
Love the reaction and the end and the information you passed along to them
Super video as always Chelsea. I really like the idea of washing the pads in a rinseless wash and then going back to work. I'm not a professional and I only have a few pads to use--this method of cleaning them is perfect for me.
Extremely useful, practical and honest help for this detailing first-timer. Feeling a LOT more confident about product & method after watching this!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! Outstanding results!!
I'm definitely not a big fan of that entry card to get into the vehicle but was also a totally unprepared for the wow factor. That shine is nothing short of incredible!! Excellent video Chelsea!! Customer was super excited!! 👍🏼🇨🇦
Wow! It looks so clean on camera; I can only imagine how clean it actually looks in person! Great work!
This is the exact combo Tesla I have, going to order this polish and go to work. Thank you for the detailed explanation on everything.
I’ve been Coating sooooo many new teslas lately myself. I must admit the paint is some of the worse and it’s that way on all models. I find myself using Xtreme Solutions finale on lighter colors and LVR403 on darker. If I need a little more cut I’ll add a couple dots of ICE. I have had success with EOD Polish but now find myself reaching for DIY spray polish more and more now.
What pad are you using?
@@kimnewling5728 either yellow rupas or the DIY yellow waffle
@@royaltyautodetailing thank you
Chelsea, another home run for sure. I admire your humility in the process of giving your customers and the audience usable insights to achieving these results too. I applaud your channel and all the gems you keep giving out effortlessly!!!!!
This was a really great and informative video Chelsea. Car came out great and all the steps used were on point and very well demonstrated.
I love my Griots g9. I am about to tackle a black Tesla model 3 and I am soaking all of my pads right now in rags to riches to prepare for the job. I expect to go through a few different passes with a few products and pads before I land on the right combo, but I am going through all the videos to come to a consensus on the "soft" properties of Tesla paint.
Another great video! Because if this video I purchased the DIY waffle pads & gold standard polish last night. I thought the model Y turned out amazing/ incredible. Very nicely done! Keep these great videos/ education coming. Thank you 🙏
Great job on the car and awesome tips thanks as always
Fantastic and informative video!! The customer reaction says it all!! DIY Detail products are awesome!!
Wow...This was awesome!! I have a blue 2021 Model Y and I wish you were here in Atlanta so that I could get you to take care of my vehicle paint
Fantastic! An intelligent giggle as intro. Thanks for the fun and info. Cheers.
Nicely done Chelsea! The outside after video was stunning.
This was an awesome video. Thank you for showing how to polish a car with only one pad. One day I'd like to polish my car when I get the money for a polisher, but the added cost of 6 pads hurt just thinking about it. I have a Hyundai and I don't know if it's soft paint or not, but I'm gonna keep watching all your videos and learn as much as I can before trying my hand at it.
Hyundai…Hard paint. Use Jescar correcting compound with a yellow foam pad or white microfiber pad.
@@RayNLA Thanks so much for the detailed info!
@@phenixwars1
You’re very welcome. The Jescar correcting compound finishes out really well with very little dusting, and no haze. It’s an incredible product
Hi Chelsea what did you use to coat the glass roof and windows? Thanks
Excellent job, Chelsea! Your results are stunning.
Dang I wish this was a black Tesla model y! Would love to see how this process work with that paint
Same process for black paint
It looks awesome Chelsea and I figured it would be very soft paint on those cars
I got a customer that told me every detailer he contacted to polish his Tesla, said they don’t want to do it. I am planning to use the Rupes Uno Advanced with the white pad. I don’t have the DIY Detail pads but, I have some other yellow pads laying around.
@@MikeBee77 i LOVE working on Teslas! Send them all to me lol
I am in SC, how much would you charge to wash, decon and polish with Rupes Uno Advanced to a Tesla? Only the outside, customer doesn’t want no interior cleaning…
Your videos are great... I have a couple of questions about polishing:
1) do you have any idea what RPM (roughly) you were using for the Tesla?
2) what size pads do you use?
I typically land on setting 4.5-5 (not sure if the rpm’s) and use 5” pads
When you coated this, did you coat all of the glass (windshield?), trim (rubber and plastic), headlights and cameras?@@attention2detailswchelsea
Turned out really nice Chelsea 👍😁
Good job , looks beautiful. You need the Lc system 4000 pad washer, will save you lots of time when using one pad.
I have one but was trying to show and alternative to cleaning pads for those that can’t invest in about washer but yes you are right it does make things a lot faster and these pads actually hold up very well to the pad washer
@@attention2detailswchelsea I'm still new to the game but learning, you are one of my favorite teachers in UA-cam. Wish you the best and keep simplifying things for us, you are good at it.
You need a pad washer. Yvan has been suggesting that for years and that is how I work. As soon as the pad becomes dirty, I bring it to the pad washer and clean it. There is no need for 1 pad per pannel when you work that way. Also, this helps cool down the pad so they tend to last longer. Also, not removing the pad from the polisher help preserve the hook and loop material so they last longer that way too. I wonder is a rotary with a soft pad might work better on super soft paint. I know Yvan like them a lot but I have a hard time trying to switch having been working with a DA for over 10 years.
I have one I was just showing an alternative to it with their rinseless wash for those that don’t have the $$ to invest in one as they can be expensive for some who don’t do this often
@@attention2detailswchelsea Yes, they do make an insane markup on what is basically a bucket, a grid guard and some plastic cups and springs! Paid mine like 100$ 6 years ago, now I think they sell closer to 200$. But they do improve the work experience and down time a lot. So for a business, I think they are a must. For an enthousiast, they can certainly do without.
That color is 🔥 with that coating
Not the only one who has problems with opening them. Madame Chelsea singing again 😄 Happy Easter!🙏
🥰
Thanks for the video! Have you tried polishing the charge port door? Can it be polished?
Yes lightly it can be polished but it doesn’t like being touched and wants to open so just have to be gentle with the mechanism and not force it
No need to tape off trim with gold standard. It does a very good job of cleaning the trim too!
Would other waffle pads also work?
Does the coating go on all windows and headlights (lights) too?
I've never understood why people use multiple pads, I've used compressed air then went to a pad washer after not liking to wear a mask and not have the debit in the air. I must be lucky in 3 years of doing paint corrections I've still use a handful of pads and 4 polishes and have never struggled to do corrections in 1 step 99% of the time. The pad washer is harder on soft pads but it also keeps everything cool.
Hey Chelsea thanks for the video. I got a Model Y that’s about 7 months old now got it back in Feb so the paint is pretty 9.5/10. So barely any imperfections.
My question is, do you think it’s necessary to get a paint gauge bc of how thin the clear coat is? I’m scared to polish but I purchased the DIY foam pad and spray polish just like you and I’m just nervous af to mess up the paint as I’ve never don’t it before.
I also will be using maybe 1-2 waffle pads as well but will be cleaning it throughly as your process indicated in the video.
Looking forward to your response. You’re the best !
If you’re only going for a paint enhancement on a brand new Tesla and using the gold standard and waffle pad, you should be fine. You just don’t want to go super slow with your arm speed but if you do 2 to 3 passes at a moderate speed you’re not gonna be taking off too much clear you should be fine.
@@attention2detailswchelsea thanks Chelsea! I was even gonna purchase a paint gauge but I don’t think it’s necessary .. I’ll test on a paint portion first.
I appreciate you!
Every time I watch a detailing video recently they keep using @DIYDetail products! Hoping they might get to the UK by the summer…🤞🤞🤞
Would you recommend a short throw polisher on softer paint what is ghosting? Like always enjoy the videos
Sometimes the larger throw can cause the marring so an 8mm is sometimes easier to finish down on softer paint
Ghosting is when you see the silhouette of the pad or polish in the light even after wiping off the residue from polishing. Sometimes it not detectable until you put a light on it. It’s similar to holograms but not as severe and normally just needs either a softer pad or polish to remove
@ okay thanks I’ve had that happen to me with my dad’s truck never knew what that was called enjoyed your first podcast it was really good
Hey Chelsea ! Do you ever have an issue with iron remover on the anodized trim on teslas ?
You’re not alone opening a Tesla Chelsea!
🤣
Awesome job! What is your favorite DA polisher?
Griots Garage 15mm long throw
Or Rupes Mark III 15mm long throw polisher
A better than new car showroom look Chelsea 👏📸 Thoughtful treatment before work started in earnest. Did ( or can you) apply the ceramic coating to all of the exterior black trim Chelsea? If not, can you recommend an easy to apply and long lasting specific d.i.y. product ? I would appreciate your opinion. I read cerakote is good? Thanks again from Northumberland here in the UK !
You can use this coating on the trim
@@attention2detailswchelsea Brill ! Thanks for the reply Chelsea, have a great weekend! 👍
Beeeee U tee full ! awesome job.
Looks amazing..I have a question I have a new to me car it's a deep gold metallic color is that a harder color to try my first time polishing with polisher ...any tips would be appreciated 🫶🫶
Gold can be a hard color to see the swirls and scratches on, but on the plus side it’s hard to see the swirls and scratches on so you don’t necessarily need to get paint perfection a good paint enhancement can make a big difference in gloss
@Attention 2 Details w/ Chelsea thanks for the tips ❤️
BTW, I used to use McKee's 37 Nano-Ceramic coating (not the graphene one) but after seeing independant testing on Scott HD's channel, that coating performed really poorly compared to other products so I switched to Cquartz UK for my 2 year product and the Gtechniq CLS+EXO for the 5 year product. McKee's coatings are very inexpensive but they simply don't last. In the test Scott did, they only lasted a few months compared to years for other products. I suggest you have a look at his channel. Also, graphene was provent to be much worse than nano-ceramic coatings. I watches some interrviews with chemists and the problem is that no one has found a way to combine the graphene with the resin so it lasts. They fail faster than nano-ceramic, and their supposed advantage of preventing water spots is not true, they water spot just like nano-ceramics.
I’ve had a graphene coating on my vehicle for over 2 years and it’s doing great. And 0 water spotting issues but appreciate the feedback and info
@@attention2detailswchelsea Are you topping the coating evey 6 months? If so, you might be seeing the effect of the topper, not the coating. If a coating fails like you said within 6 months if not washed often, that means the coating is crap. Not rubbing it, and spraying it with chemicals once or twice a weak should improve the coating's durability, not reduce it. Coatings are supposed to be pretty much immune to chemical products. The one I use is resistant to chemicals from 2 to 11 on the PH scale.
What polisher do you use? I just got a model 3 and I know I’m gonna need to do this soon.
I have a few but my recent favorite was this one: bit.ly/3ZutWGy
Best polisher on the market and helps a lot with vibrations and hand tingling
I think turning your frustration into songs comes after having kids and watching the same movies/shows over and over. The melodies becomes imprinted in our brains and it becomes a defense mechanism.
Will this cleaning method work with microfiber pads too?
Yes but you may need a brush to scrub the Microfiber’s so I would recommend getting a pad brush
Well done 💪
Now all you need is a pad washer. Clean that pad in 10 seconds 👍
I could have sworn you had one.
I do have one, but I had stopped using it because it was starting to tear my foam pads up and because I only had one pad I didn’t want to tear it up but Yvan let me know that these pads hold up really well with the pad washer and trust me, I will use it in the future now. But I was also trying to share techniques for those that may not have the money to invest in a pad washer because they are not the cheapest.
@@attention2detailswchelsea yep definitely anyone can use the bucket wash method. Good point. Weird, never had the washer mess up pads.
Happy I was able to help.
What did you do to help? Who did you help?
Chealsea called me to help her understand why the paint reacted to the polishes and pads that way.
Stupid question of the day. Can you polish vinyl wrap? ty
You can but they have their limitations. It’s not like polishing normal paint
Pretty cool.
You're one in a million...
Amazing to me just how cheesy those interiors are. For the price point of these cars, consumers should demand MUCH more.
Minimalistic, opposite of cheesy
They don’t come with those nice weather mats
Pad Washer?????
I have one but because I only had one pad was trying to be mindful of how aggressive I was on it plus, I like sharing tips that are more conducive for those watching that may not have a pad washer because they’re not the cheapest but yes a pad washer would work great in this moment.
Lol omg this was me with my first tesla. Btw I hate washing teslas, so far I haven't polished one yet and if I can convince my clients to let me polish it that will make my washing them easier. I think I need to raise my price to truck/suv rates cuz literally they're such a pain to clean, especially the inside windows and door panels on the fold up doors...ugh. also their plastic trim sucks, does not age well.
That 💩 looks friggin amazing! WOW! Great job!
That doesn’t look like a Rupes polisher??!
No it’s my Griots G15 but I go back and forth between the two
That was a very informative video. I've always wiped off the polish and made sure everything was just right. Then before applying any protection. I always used a panel wipe of 20% alcohol 91% to 100%. I'm definitely very impressed with The Gold standard DIY polish. The softest paint I've worked on is a Lexus? I've got some minor swirling on my 2008 Mercedes W211 E class. I'm thinking about trying as a light cleaner polish. I used a 50/50 euro fiber pad and 3D-one to get the paint corrected when I first got it in 2020. I need to really get a good coating on it. Instead of a year long Turtle wax Graphene protection. I was thinking Art Desthine metal oxide coating. But the Mcgees is better coating? Thanks again for sharing your great knowledge and experience!
I did do a panel prep wipe.
Art de Shine is definitely an amazing coating but imo I think the graphene coating from Mckees 37 is easier to work with a land comparable in durability
Dont you have a pad washer? Do it on each pass for the same results!
I do but it can be rough on some pads sometimes I find and I only had one pad so I was trying to make it last and the handwashing is a lot gentler and also for those that don’t want to invest in a pad washer I was trying to show a more economical way to clean pads. But yes a pad washer is a great option as well
@Attention 2 Details w/ Chelsea i gotcha. Ive never noticed it being hard on pads personally. I only agitate on speed 1 or 2. Ive polished 10 cars using the same single pad in my shop. Still looks basically new. But your way is close and definitely better than nothing
The carpet in these cars is horrible for vacuuming especially if the customer doesn't take of their interior.
Yeah, the one that I did had not been cleaned inside or outside in a year. SMH
Yeah man I have a bimonthly tesla maintenance wash n vac and they have 2 very active kids, which is great I have 4 kids, but the go to the beach and ride horses so it's basically a detail every 2 weeks, royal pain in the ass cleaning their interior. I do a mix of initial vacuuming, then I use my mini air cannon and blow corners nooks n crannies, under seats again, then use my carpet brush and re vac the whole thing, and blow one last pass at the end. It's like 45 minutes on the interior alone
First!!
I also am not familiar with them and how to operate them , what a pain. Also they are watching you the entire time inside and out on their camera can’t stand that. How big of a section do you usually work in when doing this one step polish
