Join me in the garage as I show you how to remove the valves, valve springs, valve spring retainers, and valve keepers on a Datsun N42 aluminum cylinder head. After all the bits and bobs are removed from the head, we'll super clean it with some Simple Green HD Pro alloy cleaner. I think it turned out really nice, what do you guys think?

I used that spring compressor one time. As soon as I finished putting my springs back in I threw it in the trash.

Black magic blech whit tire cleaner works fantastic on alum, no corrosion or duling at all. It will dissolve grease on contact. Bad on hands.

  • @vernonbosshard9317

Look like your simple green is close to Bleche white tire cleaner. Spray the tire cleaner directly on the head then wrap it up in plastic bag, it works faster. Typically I use gunk engine cleaner then tire cleaner, then maybe the tub soak like that if needed. Pressure washer does magic on hard to clean stubborn gunk.

smack the springs with a socket and grab ya a pneumatic c clamp spring compressor to make it easier.

1:00 valve locks or keepers, tapered to fit the valve retainer taper. Keep a rag nearby so you don’t have to go fishing for a valve lock like a jewelry looking for a lost diamond while setting stones in a ring 💍

Good Video, and congrats on your almost 2K subscribers. It's hard to get noticed. If this title doesn't work out I would try something like "I found the safest way to clean aluminum parts" or something like that. and NGL I was expecting a comparison of the 2 cleaners from the thumbnail so maybe a "Don't use this" with a picture of the super clean on there instead. Not criticizing, again I know how hard it is. I am trying to get better at my own titles and thumbnails which is why I give the feedback.

Simple green, purple power and stuff like that is corrosive very bad for aluminum it will actually turn the aluminum a dark color if soaked in it for long and if you don’t rinse aluminum off really good when ur done you will have a surprise the next day. It will rust iron/steel too just not as fast as aluminum. They do make cleaners like them that aren’t corrosive. Just wanted to throw that out there a lot of people don’t know and ruin their stuff.
I own an auto repair shop and specializing in engine repair. When u have a cylinder head with over head cam there are oil passages in the head that should be cleaned with an actual solvent and you would be surprised how fast it cleans the whole head too. You could just buy a gallon of it and use in a spray bottle or buy a 5 gallon pale of it so u can soak the head but you can drain it back into pale using a coffee filter or something to get the dirt out, the fluid will get dark but it still works just as good that’s what is used in parts washers.
