It's almost a requirement in the new f150s. In my 2019 there is a sway bar directly behind the drain plug. When you pull the screw the oil hits the bar at high velocity and sprays absolutely everywhere. Worst design I've ever seen. The little drain gadget fixes the problem.

Hey Mike, I honestly would just stick with every 5000 miles (I think that's around 8000 kilometers). Ford's percentage is pretty accurate, however I like to stick with 5000 miles since I mostly drive highway and the oils nowadays are so much better than they used to be. It's a good number to stick with either way. Again, I think that's around 8000 kilometers.
That happened to me about a year ago. I had to try out different oil filter wrenches to loosen my filter. Definitely a pain, and it doesn't help that there isn't a lot of room down there. The best oil filter wrench you can use in that situation is one that tightens as you turn. That's really the best way to get it off.

Another option is to curse smash your fingers and head kit grease in your eyes in your mouth from Awkward angles and then get out from underneath the truck and punch the neighbors dog in the face and Light the mailman's truck on fire sometimes that works too
It does fit, but there were concerns over leaks so I think Amazon stopped recommending it for our trucks. I'm currently working on an updated video proving the oil fill elbow doesn't leak. I cleaned up the area around the elbow and it's been perfect for 2 weeks now. I'm giving it a full month just in case and will provide all updates in that video.
The filter really should be swapped out with every oil change. A clogged filter can cause serious engine wear. However, I believe these filters contain about half a quart or slightly less. I hope this helps!
Lol kind of. So the one I have linked is the one I used on my truck. It fits, but it also told me it doesn't work with mine. The best advice I can give you (if you really want the elbow) is to buy it and then see it if fits. If it doesn't, Amazon is really good with returns. It shouldn't be an issue. Hopefully it works like mine did and you don't have an issue.
I try my best lol! It's getting difficult now since we get so many. But I'll keep trying to get back to all of you! I appreciate the support brother! 🙏

I got it from Amazon. In the description of the video, there is a link next to "Dorman Oil Fill Extension". Thanks for watching and let us know if you have anymore questions!
It's very similar, but not exactly. 2010 was the last year they used the 4.6 and 5.4 V8 engines. The 5.0 replaced it and that's what was in this video.
Hey Mark we appreciate that. We do earn a small commission off of those links and that helps us fund more videos for the channel. So thank you very very much and thank you for watching! 🤟
Funny you mention that, we actually released 2 videos on the brakes for that model F150 but unfortunately ran into some technical difficulties so we scrapped them. Eventually I will have to change the brakes again, so I will give it another go when I get there.
You failed to mention to check to make sure you’re not double-gasketing that oil filter. Sometimes when you remove the old one, the gasket stays stuck to the engine. If that happens and you place a new filter with gasket on top of it, all of your oil will spill out.
One review on Amazon about the drain plug said it started leaking after 3k miles and he had to put his oem plug back on. How is yours doing and how many miles have you driven after installing it?
Hello James! I currently have about 11,000 miles on my truck since installing the valvomax. I haven't had any issues, and hopefully I never do. These are aftermarket parts, so I'm not going to be surprised if it did start leaking. But so far so good! If I have any issues I'll be sure to make a video on it. Thanks for watching! 🤟
@@TrickShiftGarage yeah Scotty done a positive review on them too so I went ahead and ordered the plug and oil fill adapter. It was like 52 bucks for both and will be here tuesday
Hi guys, I have a 2012 F150 with 5.0 L. After changing oil and filter and letting the truck sit and drain for easily half an hr, when parking truck after done it still leaks oil from the filter plastic drain spouts. Makes a mess on road, Im not the first person having this issue, what do you do.
Hello Chris! So I probably should have included this in the video, but one thing I do after replacing the filter is grab a rag and wipe all around the oil filter housing. Sometimes I will even grab a wrench, wrap the rag around it and force the wrench under the filter to make sure I get it all. Sometimes it will still drip for another few minutes after doing this, but eventually it will stop. It's a pretty bad design by Ford honestly. I've been looking into oil filter relocation kits to see if I can make it easier on everyone with an F150 with the 5.0.
Another thing you can try: after putting the new filter on, spray the area around the filter with brake clean. This will help the oil clean out faster too. I hope this helps Chris!
Yea I notice it says that for my truck now too. I'm not sure if they changed the design or if some people complained about it and then Amazon changed it? I really have no idea to be 100% honest. Mine is working fine still. It's not a necessary part, so if you are on the fence about it then I wouldn't worry about getting one. But it is convenient, which is why I bought it.
Lol funny story: I did upload a video on the brakes for my truck but it was so terrible I had to take it down. I may go ahead and redo them this spring. I owe you all!
The way the drain pan for the oil filter is designed kinda sucks in my opinion because it retains some oil and is difficult to clean up. I noticed mine retained some oil and then when I moved the truck a little dribble came out on my driveway. Argh.
Same Alex. It is not a good design at all. This summer I plan on doing an oil filter relocation, which I will try to do a video on. We will see how it goes!
OK it looks like that part number does in fact fit the 5.0. I wanted to make sure that was the one I ordered and Amazon didn't discontinue it. I check an F150 forum and have confirmed it will work. So I'm assuming that really is the same one I bought.
Hey thanks for reaching out! I believe Ford Tech Makuloco has a couple videos on brakes for these trucks. I'm unfortunately not going to be getting to them this year. Hopefully come spring I can do a good video for you all!
Yes you can! The filter is kind of a pain given its location. But other than that, it's pretty simple. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! 🤟
7.7 Quarts in a V6????? that's alot of oil dude! sure that is right? damn !I just bought a 2014 F 150 3.7 liter and I am tryin to learn all of this new shit! I have been driving a crown Vic Interceptor for 10 yrs plus and 5 Qrts is about as much as a 4.6 liter ford can hold this is freakin me out a lil bit...LOL but you seem to have yer shit together! so Im trusting u my brother!...im new to the F150 world! especially 2014 yr model!I am getting a really hard shift from first to second gear... have you ever seen a situation like this in your truck??
This is a 5.0 V8. And I hear ya. My OBS F150 takes 5 quarts, but these newer V8's have a deeper oil pan. A lot of manufacturers are doing that so they can tell the customer to go more than 5k miles per oil change. I'd rather stick with 5k on the newer truck and 3k on my old truck.
7.7 quarts its nothing. The more the better to avoid oil starvation in high Gs corners with grippy tires. My car calls for 7.1 quarts, I put 9 in there every single time.
@@TrickShiftGarage Nothing will ever happen. I blew up 3 engines at the track until a buddy of mine suggested running 2 more quarts of oil in the engine. The alternative is buying a $2000ish better baffled deeper oil pan but I'm on a budget. the engines are $400 a piece. We eventually installed oil pressure gauge and the pressure would drop significantly in the corners for a brief moment. Each tight corner would eat away at the bearings until eventually they would just spin and sieze the crankshaft. We've also installed a beefy oil cooler sourced from an E9X M3 so its not like the extra 2 quarts are sitting on the pan but for quite a while we were just running it with the oem "heat-exchanger" type cooler with the 2 quarts on top.
Maybe it worked in your application with your vehicle, but to claim it will be fine with every vehicle is disingenuous. There is a reason these car manufacturers recommend a certain amount.
That motor calls for 7.7 qts. Sure you can measure out 7.7 but the full 8 quarts won’t hurt it in the slightest. It’s literally .3 quarts more than what the manufacturer calls for.
It doesn't hurt to measure it out either. 🤷♂️ I would stick with the recommendation from the manufacturer. It's always better to take some extra time to get something right, than to cut corners.
Yeah because every second in the pit counts in NASCa... eh I mean doing an oil change from the comfort of your driveway...🙄 some people just need a swift back hand knuckle slap in the balls for being "that guy"..😉
Couple of things you did wrong! First before you installed your oil drain adapter, you wiped the oil drain hole, then the bottom of the pan and then the hole again! You're wiping all that road crap onto the hole! Second, why did you use old, dirty oil to lubricate your new oil filter gasket?!?!?! Use the NEW , CLEAN OIL!!!!
That's the worst thing you could have done, instead of the oil instantly running out and bringing all of the contaminants with it, it will not take forever to empty and leave junk in the pan. These gimmicky devices have been around for years and all they do is to cause more issues. You want to quickly evacuate all of the contaminated oil.
It's the worst thing I could have done? I'm pretty sure there are far worse things. And as long as you change your oil when you are supposed to, there won't be a lot of contaminants. And just because the oil is moving slower, does not mean it's leaving behind contaminants. That's an assumption based on zero evidence. Last thing: it's been about 50,000 miles and I have had zero issues. Engine runs perfect, truck feels great. If you have concerns, then don't buy one. I'm not asking you to buy one. I decided to try out a new (to me) product and it's been perfectly fine. 👌
Another tip is never change your oil brand. Synthetics all corrode in different ways. Use the same brand for the life of an engine if possible . Or… do what you want to I’m sure you know everything anyways.
Nope, I actually know very little about everything lol. I'm just like everyone else, trying to learn as much as possible. And that is a good tip. I usually stick with Mobile 1. I think most people stick with a brand if it continues to work for them. And Mobile 1 has been very good to my vehicles.
Understandable. A lot of people have mentioned they prefer these types of videos without music, so I've been going back and editing a few of them without music. Sorry for the inconvenience!

@@TrickShiftGarage I've got a 2013 STX 2WD. Mine have been squeaking bad when I go in reverse. I'm hoping to find instructions how to change them.
Hey thanks for reaching out! I believe Ford Tech Makuloco has a couple videos on brakes for these trucks. I'm unfortunately not going to be getting to them this year. Hopefully come spring I can do a good video for you all!
easy enough i can do this
Yes you can!
Overfilling is not good for your bottom end either. You're lucky nothing has broke yet.
Pause at 6:04
Dude you gonna twist the whole damn truck on its side.
😆
Damn that’s a great fuckin idea thanks
Anytime! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! 🤟
I have the 3.5 but this video was still helpful, subscribed
Awesome, thank you very much!
Takes longer with that adaptor
Yep, but it's not that much longer. I let it drain for awhile with or without a Valvomax.
I think you are being a little too serious lol. This has never been an issue.
Can't hear the instructions because of the #%&@
Understandable. A lot of people have mentioned they prefer these types of videos without music, so I've been going back and editing a few of them without music.
Sorry for the inconvenience!
Great video! Thanks.
