I hate it when critics go into movies based off of something else without any knowledge of that original source material, making for unfair critiques. And Doug is no exception. Remember how people thought the Lego Movie was a dumb idea souly made for selling more toys? Now look at how well it did and how much praise it received, if you want a movie to fail even though the studio listened to the fans then your heart has gone bye bye
You know, your video reminded me of his review of Detective Pikachu. Not exactly the same but I remember watching his Detective Pikachu review and was annoyed with his lack of knowledge of Pokemon. It would be understandable if this was a review of a nonfan or something but the Nostalgia Critic had made it clear that he is annoyed of Pokemon and relish the fandom's complaints about him. Obviously his attitude that his word is law or his reviews are serious made things worse. Two scenes I recall from the review that bothered me were the Cubone scene and a line he said. With the Cubone scene in the beginning, I may have the benefit of the doubt that he just doesn't know since that's like in a Pokedex, but the fact that a Cubone wears the skull of it's mother has been a thing known for a while I think. Like people were making a big deal of it for a while. Another thing from what I remember was when he teased about an "Obamamon" even though that naming convention is for Digimon and not Pokemon! One could argue that some Pokemon could have a Mon in their name but from my knowledge and how Doug is acting, I think he half assed the Joke. I might be wrong since it's been a while since I played a Pokemon game.
Thanks for briefly mentioning Thomas and The Magic Railroad. That film does have plenty of issues especially behind the scenes with a character being completely removed from the movie that clearly messed up the end product. But Doug showed a lack of care and understanding for the franchise itself and acted like the show was a very cheap and dumbed down show for kids which isn't true at all.
@@erikbihari3625 the original main villain of the film was removed which ruined alot of the emotional heart of tge story and doug was like Thomas shouldn't be this intense hence why he said Thomas is the kind of thing they put on if barney is too much. @@erikbihari3625 Well for example a train being bricked into a tunnel forever, a cart being ripped apart, basically pulling someone to pieces, the fat controller basically deciding wheter to keep two of the engines or send them to be scarp, the fat controller threatening to change the colour of one of the engines, basically changing what makes them unique as a punishment. Another one that is basically taken to a smelting shed to be melted down for scarp and of course one I always point to, an engine who was being naughty so as punishment he was turned into a generator, with his face still attached to it, basically crippling him for all enternity. Oh and one where an engine and his driver nearly died from going over a waterfall.
Me when seeing the beginning of the video: You know what I love from reviewers, Doug? Assuming media is bad without having actually encountered or consumed it? That’s what professionals do…..right…..right? In all seriousness, there are exceptions to the rule like Cuties since one doesn’t need to watch that movie to know it’s cursed bait for weirdos to keep kids away from.
I watch their review of the new movie and........ never gonna give you up never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and deser- Ok, I'm just playing but it's not that. Not perfect by any means, but definitely WAY better that his review of the first one. And he actually acknowledges the fact that the video was disliked bombed in an actually pretty funny way.
And this is the reason why I stopped watching them. Change The Channel situation played some part in it, but the bigger thing was that I realised that Critic doesn't understand movies that he watches. Besides Sonic he also doesn't understands movies like Matrix, Signs, Last Action Hero, Pixar's Cars, Sam Raimi's Spiderman and many more. But the breaking point for me was his "REVIEW" of Sonic The Hedgehog Movie (2020), HE COMPLETLY MISSES THE POINT AND JUST IGNORES POSITIVE STUFF IN THIS MOVIE. I knew that he's going to pick on details or coming up with Cliche arguments like WhY THEy ArE HuMaNs in SONIC MoVie....answer because they were in games and arch enemy of Sonic is a human so shut up! Anyway I agree with your arguments DDR, aswell as for the opinion the first movie. FIRST SONIC MOVIE WAS AMAZING AND THE SEQUEL IS EVEN BETTER!
Honestly this Sibling Rivalry video reminds me of lot of the UA-camr Arlo's impressions video on the second Sonic movie. Both felt like they were critiques by people who really weren't invested in Sonic and felt more like the stereotype in the fan based that the fans who grew up with the Genesis games hate all the stuff from Adventure and onwards because they only care about the classics. (sides Sonic Mania) Because of stuff like they made a character's design slightly different. Also, because off all the backlash Arlo got from his over 50-minute video, he made a half an hour apology video. Look I'm glad that he realized his mistakes but even that felt like he dragged something that should have been around 5 minutes or even a simple tweet on Twitter into a 30-minute video! Also, I have a hot take Sonic Movie 2 > The Mario Movie (2023) I'm sorry but I just felt like the second Sonic movie was just paced a lot better than The Mario Movie. Sure, there were some scenes that felt kind of patted out but it's much better then how fast pace The Mario Movie felt. There were only 2 moments where it felt like it wanted to take a break and develop the characters but even those scenes felt very rushed. Sure, the Mario movie had more references to the games but refences don't make a movie necessarily good! Because of its rushed pacing it felt like they took a 12-episode Mario anime and cramped it into a 1 1/2-hour movie. Not to say it was the worst movie ever or even bad but, I feel like the second Sonic movie just felt like it was not only a piece of fan service but a narrative that can stand on 2 legs competently on it's own. (If you want to know more on who The Mario Movie could have been better then check out Charriii5's rewrite video)
I really hope I don't need to make a response, their utter disinterest in Sonic but reviewing it anyway is exhausting. Calling it now, they're going to ask what game the plot was lifted from and have some dumbass quibble about why SatAM wasn't continued and replaced with Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Unpopular opinion, don't crucify me for it, I never cared for SatAM at all)
@@MagmaPaint Eh its your opinion but I did like SatAM. But for your sanity dont even try to watch dougs awful review of Sonic 2 soon. Hes gonna pull some BS out of his ass hating on this one too.
@@liamphibia so why didnt he say the same thing about the first movie then? The first movie was keeping it simple as thats what the director jeff fowler said.
Has anyone brought the bizarre fact that Doug starred in a fan made live action Sonic Movie before the official announcements, where Doug played as a GUN soldier about to be executed by a E-series Badnik before being saved by Sonic. I never recognized that was Doug because he didn’t do his usual stick of being over the top, it’s bizarre that Doug was in anyway tied to that project.
I haven't yet but that's what I've heard. Right now I'm in a sort of recovery period after two and a half months of working on my most recent video, I'm waiting for Sonic 2 to come out on DVD that way I can get my footage and get one or two more viewings since I don't think memory of two theatre viewings is going to cut it, and a regular job on top of that. I'll get to it eventually
Fun fact: the sibling rivalry of the OVA shows how little the two of them know about the franchise because Rob knows that Eggman was based on Teddy Roosevelt but he doesn't know Amy's name. I'm not fucking kidding. He called her "girl hedgehog"
Especially since Sonic 3 comes out in a few months and he's probably going to jump onto that cash cow. God forbid what he's going to say about Shadow's backstory
Also I find it very hypocritical that he calls AoSTH super weird and hates it because of that, yet he absolutely loves Loony Tunes and Tom and Jerry which have pretty similar slapstick
@@JustSomeRandomWeeb00 I mean, for Sonic Movie 3, I might not like how the 3rd one would turn out, given our current situation on character actors and female rights. I'm feeling more skeptical about how it would turn out, moreso than what I feel about the first movie. I mean, even people are trying to justify their obsession over the fact that Amy was erased from movie footage that would spoil her presence: ua-cam.com/video/t-jEw7OEa94/v-deo.html As for AoStH, yeah, totally agree with you on that. I'd argue that AoStH fits Sonic more than SatAM (even though some of the characters in SatAM are cool as well), but I say this because AoStH was the only American Sonic Cartoon based on the games released at the time (Sonic 1 Genesis, Sonic 1 Game Gear, Sonic 2 Genesis, and Sonic 2 Game Gear), and that there may be coincidental concepts that just so happened to appear in this cartoon prior to Sonic 3. Robotnik's Egg-0-Matic Tunnelizer and Town Terrorizer reminds me of Robotnik's Drill Pod from Sonic 3; and a few episodes of AoStH had Tails being self-reliant sometimes, and that Tails can do similar feats that his in-game counterpart could do later on.
Everything from the Playstation 2 or 3 to the XBOX 360 to the Gamecube or Wii U was the golden era of gaming for me at least, I grew up with a Playstation 3 and XBOX 360, then moved onto the Wii and then Wii U. Just thought about saying this.
10:46 To 10:51In my opinion that pretty much sums up the first movie in a nutshell. I like the first Sonic movie but I’m not a huge fan of it. I did like the second one more though. And I’m not even a huge sonic fan. Also at 16:32 To 17:22 Doug and Rob’s criticism was that the chase sequence with Eggman chasing Sonic around the world could have been more grand and Epic.
@@MagmaPaint Ah. Thanks. Sorry, I don't normally watch his videos. So basically, you're not going to do it because so many other people have already done it?
Question, have you watched SomeCallMeJohnny's Sonic Reviews? He's like the J's Reviews to the Sonic fanbase/community before J's Reviews. And still on par.
Both the archie comics & sonic SATAM despite being darker story + tonal wise were still incredibly silly just like other sonic media, i mean hell archie sonic had an entire plot twist where sonics fox girlfriend was revealed to have cheated on him with his green evil punk clone it was still silly
Don't find anything silly about Fiona Fox plot, but whatever. In that case you can apply that to Batman as well, like yeah, he had dark cartoon in the 90's, 2004, games and Dark Knight movie trilogy, but hey, he had that silly show from the 60's which means you can't take this franchise seriously and all the stories about violence and philosophy is just to make edgy teens feel cooler.
I actually disliked this video because I felt like Doug was hoping that the first movie would be bad, given how he's talking and it upset me because I saw the movie and loved it. And I had only become a Sonic fan back in 2017 when Sonic Forces came out, I wasn't a fan when I was a kid because the series didn't interest me, but I got into it when I started going to college. Since then, I've purchased and played seven of the games, own three of the comics and have seen the cartoons. I haven't watched AOSTH or Sat Am or Underground yet but I've seen Sonic X, Sonic Boom and I'm currently watching the new show Sonic Prime. As for the movies, I've seen Sonic 1 and 2 as well as the OVA at least three times. And guess what? I did a review of both Sonic movies over on my channel, and I think I did a much better job than Doug and Rob. Considering these two know nothing about Sonic, they have no room to talk about it. I cannot wait to see how Doug critiques the upcoming Mario movie, considering that's a video game series he actually cares about. 😒😒😒😒
Oh he was a lot more nicer towards the Mario movie than Sonic. He pointed some negative things like pop songs or the lack of story ,but he wasn't as nitpicky as he is with movies he doesn't like or cares enough about. I can tell you that if Sonic's movie was structured the same way he would be more harsh on it.
@@gracekim1998 I wouldn't say that about every single Mario game. The Mario RPG games , Super Mario Galaxy and Mario+Rabbids series are the examples that do have somewhat of a stories in them. And even then in a case of a film or tv series adaptation they could create a new story or try something new instead like exploring the characters more to give the audience a new perspective on them while still respecting the IP, without the need to constantly use easter eggs as a substitute, like Sonic movies or The Cuphead Show. The point I tried to make was that Doug will nitpick everything that he doesn't likes or cares about without even understanding why others might like it or give proper reasons as to why he dislikes it outside of his biased opinions. And when it comes to something he genuinely enjoys he is less critical and nitpicky, with Mario and Sonic being an example.
There won't be any more mentions of him going forward, he nuked his channel, not a lot of people backed it up beforehand, and saying his behavior was disappointing is the understatement of the century.
@@MagmaPaint you got that right! Say what you want about Doug Walker but at the very least he never harrassed a fucking minor like MAP/Zaid Magenta did! Good riddence to the latter btw! Also, even though I'm gonna continue watching Doug Walker, if there are videos pointing out his fuckups out there, then I'll be more than happy to watch them! I love laughing at how bad Doug Walker can be sometimes. I say "sometimes" because of some of his videos like The Truman Show, Kim Possible l/a remake, Disaster Movie, etc. and yes, there are indeed a few "jokes" that REALLY suck. Plus, I'll even go as far as to say that unlike other idiot and cruel-minded "reviewers" he tries extremely hard to not say the dreaded "If you like/hate this, then you're an idiot" that should never be said whatsoever! Does hd always succeed in avoid saying something along those lines? No, but at least he tries not to, unlike MAP or even more recently RaisorBlade. Or if he is gonna say it, it's very clear that he's mocking it. Plus, as for some of the shit that he said in the past like dissing on Phil Collins, he ghankfully gave explanations as to why he didn't like them or him in this case i.e. his NC of Disney's Tarzan. In short, he's not perfect, but he's also far from the worst out there.
I feel like Doug's reviews have aged really poorly, at least after 2010 or 2011. They're not by any means great, but it showed that he really tried to give us transformative work even with a limited budget. His videos now... oh man, they were hard to stomach, even before the #ChangeTheChannel happened. Even if the production has advanced, but somehow Doug missed the point that even he himself has stated regarding movies, quantity over quality. But when he takes potshots at materiel he's never experienced with makes him look so amateur, his reviews on Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Power Rangers, Deadpool, and especially Sonic, he could've collab with someone who is most experienced that can help understand, but instead he constantly mis-informs sooo many things and believes using jokes and overly-long sketches will help it... when in actuality it makes it worse and shows he only cares about telling jokes than actually analyzing movies. I stopped watching since 2015, his videos age as bad as modern Family Guy.
As a long-time fan of Nostalgia Critic and even watching their content by today (Side note: Is that a bad thing?) wIth that being said, Doug seems to have this biased hate for the '90s. I do think it's ok to have a bais hate or love for anything even in their reviews because let's face it, EVERY movie critic is bais. We are all biased whether we acknowledge it or not. Doug, Rob, Even you and me are bais about something. My problem in their sibling rivalry video is that they didn't make a valid point to support their claim.
After all the behind the scenes drama that led to the Change the Channel movement, I question why fans still stick around, but also who am I to stop them, you know? I mentioned my own bias for the Sonic movie myself and offered a couple neutral reviews to counter things, you're absolutely right. And the Sibling Rivalry review was a challenge to take on because of the lack of valid defenses. If this was a presentation for class, it would score below failing for even a MIDDLE SCHOOL level, that's how poorly they defended their argument. The 90s hate is whatever, but it can't be denied that Sega came in hot in 1991 and gave Nintendo a hurricane force kick in the crotch and Sony dealt the finishing blow on both with the PlayStation debut--the history is quite fascinating, especially with how strict Nintendo's been throughout its history. We got things like the Disney Renaissance, the birth of Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, which is really rich because Doug and Rob slammed the Sonic movie for toilet humor (I wasn't a fan of those jokes either, tbh) but Doug gave glowing praise to Ren and Stimpy which was loaded with it. Dude derided the 1990s Sailor Moon anime in a sexist way, I see a lot of apples to oranges comparisons in his reviews, lots of dishonest critiques, and even this air of his opinions on films are cinematic law are why I just can't stand the guy and his content these days.
@@MagmaPaint I do recommend watching Doug's reviews he sounds more unbias than Nostalgia Critic. I also recommend watching this video:ua-cam.com/video/gQmDa3WMNhc/v-deo.html In the video, Doug isn't outright apologizing, but he does, however, own up to his mistakes. I really just hope someday Doug and Rob can somehow fire Mike Micuhd and apologize. Because let's be real, Mike Micuhd is the TRUE mastermind behind this. Doug and Rob aren't really responsible for this but they're mostly are held accountable for not speaking up on behave of Lindsay. overall, I do like Doug, Rob their work but they REALLY need to grow some balls and speak up.
Doug have to slam The Flintstones for being too boring and cheap despite the fact that it was 60's. Television was a stable of American Culture and it was post-world war II and cartoons on TV were made simple and limited and Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry as short movies aren't around anymore. This coming out of a guy who likes the Ninja Turtles cartoon from 1987 that have the same flaws and some dated animation and getting the voices wrong. So no The Flintstones ain't boring or cheap and Doug u like The Simpsons, The Flintstones influenced that show there.
Seeing some movies based on cartoons, games, comics strips and non-superhero or independent comics having characters from those things rendered in CGI either talking animal or supernatural being and would interact with human characters had been a trend in the 90's and 2000's. Examples would b yes Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Alvin and The Chipmunks, Garfield, The Smurfs, The Flintstones, and Rocky and Bullwinkle, the latter of those movies which Nostalgia Critic reviewed already and kept bashing them. It would happen too with both Sonic and Detective Pikachu. While I don't find some of those movies I mentioned like Casper, The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, or even Alvin and The Chipmunks to be bad or terrible, it has been cliché seeing movie adapations like these to have their characters rendered in CGI and talking to humans, which in some of them isn't a bad thing. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the other hand had them as puppets while the remake had them in CGI.
Doug definitely got facts wrong and it got on my nerves a lot of the times, mainly because he often made such a big deal out of them. I can forgive his Sibling Rivalry, Vlogs, and 1st Viewing videos, as those are on the spot, unedited first impressions, but his NC reviews are done in advance and if he is to tackle a subject, then it would be best to understand the source material to some extent before making a big deal out of it. I used to be a fan of the NC but his material just got so bland and boring. I still go back to his older reviews, mainly from 2008 - 2014, where the material was actually really good. Doug does have talent and can make some great stuff, but he doesn’t really seem to learn from his mistakes or even try to improve.
For what it's worth, the pre-revival reviews have this vibe of someone you went to school with telling you "Hey, remember that movie we watched together at your house when we were 7?" and riffing it alongside you because of how poorly it aged. Strangely enough, Doug has *some* musical talent in the last place anyone would think: with some vocal training, Doug would absolutely CRUSH it as an opera singer because he's a surprisingly good baritone. Too bad his inability to listen and take criticism means any training and rehearsal would be wasted on him.
@@MagmaPaint I agree. His older reviews do have that vibe, which I do enjoy, as it added to the comedy back then. A lot of people criticized Doug's return to the NC after 2012, and while I agree to some extent, his first two years back were surprisingly good, 2013 through 2014. But it was after those 2 years that the writing and quality really went downhill. Doug and his brother have weird opinions (when it comes to entertainment), and that's fine. But at some point, it becomes less about the opinions and more about the fact that they just don't understand some the things they talk about. Now that I think about it, you are right about Doug being really good at vocal performances. I've always wondered why he doesn't do more voice acting roles, since he's surprisingly good at making different voices when he puts in the effort.
@@Tornado1994 No, I did not forget. Sandy sounded like a lovely soul and I don't think she'd be very happy knowing about the hive of scum and villainy that was going on in Channel Awesome behind the scenes.
Bruh saying there's a game from 08 that explores the world has absolutely zero relevance to the movie. I find the Walkers to be the most cringe and unfunny guys in the world but you're getting way too upset about their trivial thoughts on a blue cartoon hedgehog.
So your fine with an average piece of mediocrity, then a high steaks, action filled, character coated, potential master piece that Sonic fucking deserve for all the low trenches he been threw in his 30 years history? I don’t agree with Doug, I am not defending him in the slightest, he has absolutely no knowledge of that makes Sonic such an iconic character. But the hedgehog deserved better then this, honestly. Sticking him in a car with James Marsden, and having him voice by Ben Schwartz (who by the way doesn’t even try to make a Sonic voice, he just used his normal voice) isn’t enough. I don’t care the movie are popular, I don’t care if you like something I don’t. I’m just tired of us accepting mediocrity from Sonic.
So, let me get this straight: I'm the problem for being okay with a MOVIE, not even a game, for being a simple popcorn flick. I'm the problem for being fine with a movie that decided to play it safe considering video game movies have a reputation of being major bombs and if Sonic's first theatrical outing failed it would far outweigh any acclaim an okay or phenomenal one would have garnered. And I'm the problem for not being a complete doomer about anything with Sonic's name on it turning out to be just above average. Don't appreciate you insinuating I don't want Sonic to pull himself together and reach his full potential but go off. Go off about me liking the movie regardless.
@@MagmaPaint it’s not you, and you can like the movie. Sonic deserved better is all I’m saying. The ova is more of a Sonic movie then this. Plus I’m just tired of media nowadays doing the bare minimum, I’d rather have a movie be a failure that took risk, that actually tried, then a mediocre movie that did the same thing all the other movies were doing. Detective Pikachu made the concept work, Sonic is just doing the same thing as all the other live action/animated hybrids do, I absolutely sick of it. And giving little references and nods to the fans isn’t good writing, it’s pandering. Knuckles and Tails should have been in the first movie, we the film should have taken place in the fictional world, and if they wanted to have humans, do what Sonic Adventure did and integrate them. Though to be fair, Sonic Adventure writers didn’t think fart joke, Fortnite dancing, advertisements, and unfunny quick silver references counted as humor now, did they?

But Doug showed a lack of care and understanding for the franchise itself and acted like the show was a very cheap and dumbed down show for kids which isn't true at all.
@@erikbihari3625 the original main villain of the film was removed which ruined alot of the emotional heart of tge story and doug was like Thomas shouldn't be this intense hence why he said Thomas is the kind of thing they put on if barney is too much.
Everyone should know that doug is so lazy when it comes to his videos that he can't remember names instead he just calls them by the actor.
I watch their review of the new movie and........
never gonna give you up
never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and deser-
Ok, I'm just playing but it's not that.
Im glad to see people who understand Sonic
These 2 clowns are gonna bash the sequel coming out next week >:C Leave Movie Sonic alone Walker Brothers!
I really hope I don't need to make a response, their utter disinterest in Sonic but reviewing it anyway is exhausting.

@@JustSomeRandomWeeb00 I mean, for Sonic Movie 3, I might not like how the 3rd one would turn out, given our current situation on character actors and female rights. I mean, even people are trying to justify their obsession over the fact that Amy was erased from movie footage that would spoil her presence: ua-cam.com/video/t-jEw7OEa94/v-deo.html
As for AoStH, yeah, totally agree with you on that.

@@messyjoy899but doesn’t Mario games as a whole have simple stories?😅 so in that context it’s accurate 🤷♀️

I also recommend watching this video:ua-cam.com/video/gQmDa3WMNhc/v-deo.html
In the video, Doug isn't outright apologizing, but he does, however, own up to his mistakes.
Nickelodeon first launched on television in 1979 so around that time the nicktoons started the same year Sonic first released on Genesis.
Yea I've seen it already but I still don't follow him anymore.

Y'all get pressed over a blue hedgehog that wears trainers.
