The next Nostalgia Critic response video is in the scripting stage and despite my obligations from the comments section on my last video tearing into Doug, I'm really struggling to find something to say that hasn't already been well articulated in Pirate Canvas' video. Also going to add these for credits since I somehow forgot them in editing: Disclaimers track: To Binge by Gorillaz End credits music: The Powerpuff Girls theme song by Biz
There's a lot wrong with this episode but conflating the two surprisingly isn't one of them. Doug was comparing Utonium to I think the professor from Gilligan's Island but I can't tell because he regularly pulls a Family Guy and confuses a reference for a joke while also under the impression everyone knows exactly what reference he made.
Also it doesn't mean their opinion is well constructed and fully honest... Doug Walker just does these so called "criticisms" as part of his character (AKA EGO), not to his actual self.
Doug has no right to complain about scenes dragging on for ages when he did the exact same thing in all three of his "Movies". Oh yeah and his jokes and skits go on for way too long.
If you can get all the way through To Boldly Flee, you deserve a medal. And then you realize that as long as it takes to watch it, it took much, much longer to record it. Those poor CA contributors deserved so much better.
9:05- I know it's probably pointless to bring this up at this point, but this bears repeating. The reason Genndy passed Popeye on to another director (Yeah, he didn't cancel it) was to put all of his focus on Hotel Transylvania 3. It had nothing to do with the Emoji Movie. Everyone just assumes that was the case because it happened to be announced around the same time and is an easy target. Animat made a video talking about this and telling everyone about this when it was announced, and it seems like everyone forgot about that video less than a week after he posted it.
@@GamerMage2k-kl4iq According to IGN, it's because it was moved to another studio around 2020 and they haven't revealed any info on how far the project has come. Apparently, Sony couldn't think of any way to possibly stick to Genndy's vision, so they just handed it over to King Features.
@@slashermaster28 Late to the party on this but I think I was passed an article detailing King Features saving Popeye from the scrap heap and may have to bring it up in the Q&A follow-up to this video.
When first hearing the news of a Nostalgia Critic review on the PPG Movie I was scared, mainly because of his sense of humour when making reviews on movies, especially good ones… This is one of my favourite films and when seeing the video you made about Doug’s take on the PPG Movie I felt just a little safer… Thanks for that. 🙏
About nostalgia critic’s comment about the chemical X. I think he’s suggesting that the film thinks we’re stupid by showing it again, but what he doesn’t realize is that the characters at the moment don’t know that, so showing the broken container again is illustrating that we’re seeing it from the professor’s point of view, that’s why in the next shot it’s shown that he looked over and pieced it together. I don’t think he understands that just because the audience knows, that the characters know
Jeremy of CinemaSins does the exact same stupid thing! He watches a movie so he'll *_KNOW_* what happens when, then he lies, saying stuff one minute like: "Oh yeah, like that's not going to become a problem later", and then when the movie *_SHOWS OR EXPLAINS STUFF,_* he just goes: "Ex Machina sh*t! Do something new, Movie!"
You realize that Nostalgia Critic is a fictional character who doesn't always share his creators views, right. The Critic is supposed to come off as impatient.
Lists of things Doug Walker does not understand: 1. Deadpool 2. Godzilla (specifically the MonsterVerse movies when he stated Godzilla should've been the main character in the 2014 movie despite that's not how it's ever worked in the wide franchise) 3. Jurassic Park/World 4. Sonic the Hedgehog 5. Thomas the Tank Engine 6. The Phantom 7. Princess Mononoke (he called San "whiny" when I felt she was more "aggressive" than whiny) 8. Sailor Moon 9. Tolkien Legendarium 10. Anime in General 11. Spider-Man 12. Pokemon 13. Digimon 14. Osmosis Jones 15. Power Rangers 16. Current day Pixar movies 17. Jungle Book 2016 18. Gorillaz 19. PPG 20. Pink Floyd If I missed something, please don't hesitate to mention it.
As someone who dabbles in his videos because I have some enjoyment (don’t judge me), I would like to add The Lion King as well with him thinking that they go against the moral of letting go of the past when Simba confronts Scar years later.
Heres something you forgot. “Cartoons now are better than old”. Two words to describe its major flaw. Over positivity. That and a lack of full depth analysis on each segment he goes to and especially on companies and makers listening to fans when sometimes they don’t or get way too obsessive with fan service and shipping. Star Vs is a good example of that
@@erikbihari3625 I know. It’s just that that video ticked me off cause outside of calling a 12 year old show Avatar (at the time if the video’s release) modern, not talking about in comparison older cartoons felt more branched out and had different styles with or without the cal art bean head thing, not the fact it’s claiming that you can have full control over a show by hiving them and the network full feedback when some of these people can either listen too much to the point of the story becoming fanfiction in a bad way or not really listen or have the network still cancel the show for stupid reasons or that you have to have a huge fan base to make even the smallest effect on a show and or franchise, it’s that he talks about way too much on the good stuff with little look on it other than saying it and no downsides to anything. It’s okay to slip when still going to the stairway of progress on… anything in life but trying to say everything has changed for the better when some of it’s not isn’t a good idea to look up on cause thats not how life works
Although the Tag part lasts more than 9 minutes, I still love that part! It's very nostalgic for me and its soundtrack is so great, I love how it turns into rock genre whenever the girls are running faster. Also it's a still important part, how the girls (innocently) almost destroyed Townsville all for playing tag and made a lot of citizens see them as threats. I don't have much to say, PPGM is my favorite childhood film of all time ❤
I admit that I was never really into powerpuff girls fan when it was new. I thought it was just a sissy girly girl cartoon and didn't even know there was a movie until almost a decade after it came out. It wasn't until my freshman year in high school in 2011 did I finally give it a chance, in secret. I can remember seeing the whole series on Megaupload (before the FBI took it down.)at night on an old Dell laptop with Windows XP Anyway, Doug really did drop the ball and shit the bed with this review.
I'd say his Osmosis Jones review was the point where he started declining hard and fast, though the Sailor Moon review could also be a point where the series rot started (that review aged poorly).
@@erikbihari3625 no. I don’t know how he got so popular. I could never tolerate him, even when he was considered good. He does the same things he calls out other bad comedians for doing. I even thought the annoying Orange was less obnoxious
@@erikbihari3625 that’s pretty accurate, yet he mocks people who “don’t appreciate” art. He’s defiantly one of, if not, the worst reviewer in the history of the internet. Sometimes I wonder if he has a mirror to look at.
"I wanted it to be more clever in its writing." [depicts the girls going through the emotional and practical consequences of being betrayed by Mojo Jojo and losing everyone's trust and respect ] "No not like that."
The writing isn’t clever in the sense that it doesn’t feel ambitious. It doesn’t feel like it wants to be groundbreaking for a series that was ground breaking on itself. What you mentioned, we’ve seen the girls gone through in one way or another in the show, and did a way better job at showing how the girls experience consequences, guilt, shame, etc. in episodes like Speed Demon and Twisted Sister.
A) Doug knows who Genndy Tartakovsky is, because he's a big fan of the "Hotel Transylvania" movies. He was saying that he would never be successful because he actually has been very successful. It's just sarcasm. If you want to say that it's an unfunny joke, no problem, but it's not fair to say that Doug doesn't respect him or his career. B) I don't think the movie's intention was to emphasize the involvement of Chemical X for newcomers. As Doug said, that had been made clear in the previous scene. I think this was a way for the Professor to connect the dots. It's common to show characters realizing something without being for the benefit of the audience, when it's something they already know. The alternative would've been for the Professor to say out loud, and using visuals like this is always a better option than exposition.
13:15 Bruh he was just complaining that the movie didn’t have enough action and now he’s saying the action is going for too long. Doug really needs to chill lol
Considering the guy LOVES Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and Ren and Stimpy and seems incapable of not mugging to the camera in any shot, saying Doug is in no position to say when there's too much action in something is a bit of an understatement
he wasn't complaining about the action going on too long, he was complaining about it being unnecessary. it's like if the scene where the iron giant reacts badly to Hogarth's gun lasted for 5 minutes instead of a few seconds before Dean yelled at him. the point was made, but the game of tag just kept going way past what was required, to the film's detriment.
Am I the only one who actually likes the Powerpuff Girls movie it's a 9/10 movie in my opinion. But what's yalls thoughts on the movie. And btw great review Foug seriously needs to restructure his videos and put more research into his video topics.
I wouldn't put it at a 9/10 but I like the animation, it's a really good origin story for the girls, 6 year old me would've KILLED to see it in theaters, and thank you Gorillaz for making me come back to it to find the cameos I never did and appreciate it all over again. Then again I couldn't have expected even less from Doug on this considering he thought he was too old for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network when Hey Arnold came out and he needed a distraction from the Change the Channel controversy.
@Magma Paint good piont. But you're right. A 9/10 is a bit too high, more like a 7 or 8/10. And btw I really wish we got that Gorillaz and ppg song. But hey, maybe when the reboot comes out soon. With Craig on board THIS TIME! And maybe we can get a crossover.
@@mediamuncher69 Honestly the story falls squarely into "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" territory. There's the bit of continuity snarl if you take Mr. Mojo's Rising into account and a couple scenes do go on a little longer than needed, but it's very solid.
I've just binged all your nostalgia critic videos. You're definitely a hidden gem on UA-cam. You ever consider doing some reviews of movies yourself, and not just dunking on the internet's worst critic?
I've actually started dipping into that territory last Christmas with reviewing every episode of The Cuphead Show and have had a couple standalone movie reviews on my list. It's just a bit difficult getting to them when I'm at work 50 hours a week and the other hours I'm not asleep are eaten by house stuff.
I would assume he made that joke about Tartakovsky not going places because he did and created Samurai Jack which need I remind Doug had the same voice actor for Splinter in TMNT voice Aku who he made fun of in his review of the movie.
8:35 Let's not forget he created Clone Wars and u might've forgot to mention Craig McCracken was storyboard artist, writer and director for Dexter's Lab before making The Powerpuff Girls.
@@tommydiaz-millan2438 Long overdue response that ended up on a later video comment section, but if I went into a full-blown retrospective of everything Genndy Tartakovsky and Craig McCracken created this video would be 5 hours long and the main focus of pointing out why Doug Walker is ignorant about Powerpuff Girls and a terrible reviewer would have been lost and derailed. I was trying to stay focused while bringing up relevant cribnotes for those in the back.
11:45 Surprised that no mention of the fact that the drawing was actually the winning entry of a contest being held during the film’s hype period before its release
There were two contest winners, actually. One was the drawing Bubbles did, the second one was the wanted poster/newspaper clipping Ms. Bellum showed Utonium when he was leaving the house to pick the girls up from school.
You really don’t need to do an overlook on nostalgia critics the wall there are quite a number of those already and I can link you a really good video that is an overlook on both Pink Floyd the wall and the nostalgia critic review on it
Yeah, I pretty much said in this video I had no interest in reviewing his The Wall review since, well, what more can I add? Everyone's ripped it a new one. I think the best response video was Spirit Man Studios', though ones where musicians threw in their two cents are especially insightful on the parody album failures. Doug thinking about doing a Gorillaz retrospective complete with poorly recreated music videos and parody covers on the other hand? I'll have my work cut out for me but I really, really hope the occasion never sees the light of day.
@@jonahwashburn9573 I hate to break it to you buddy but Doug Walker isn't that talented, he's not insightful, and he's absolutely incompetent as a critic. Don't even pull the comedy card either, he confirmed Nostalgia Critic is meant to be an analytic series and his analytic skills are weak to non-existent.
Doug clearly doesn’t understand what makes the Powerpuff Girls Special, Anywho To me this is the Best Cartoon Network Movie of all Time, Second being the Regular Show Movie, it’s the Perfect Balance Between Action, Mature Themes, Comedy, and Over the Top Story Telling which is how the Powerpuff Girls show be portrayed, I get the Creator wanted to do Less Action and More a Silly Slice of Life but I don’t think it would have worked, if anything it would’ve ruined the Franchise More if they took that Direction I mean just look at the 2016 Reboot as it did that and Failed and I’m glad CW never got their hands on them, as a Powerpuff Girls Fan I love this Unique Origin Story as it shows how Mojo Jojo and the Girls Created Each Other as this battle between Siblings that are Opposites and it shows that the Girls have Flaws which makes them Relatable and shows how the became the Heroes they were made to be, 10 out of 10, this is one of my All Time Favorite Movies that I would rewatch as much as I can but it also shows be one of the Best Superhero Movies that has Aged like Fine Wine and it becomes even better as Each Year Passes.
As harsh as this sounds (this video's own development hell aside), it's too little too late for Doug considering everything that happened behind the scenes with Channel Awesome, especially the JewWario kerfuffle. If there's any line you can't come back from, defending a sex offender and sweeping it under the rug is quite up there in my book.
Yea, I'm still upset too Doug defended a rapist and it's nasty of him to keep it secret and made a tribute video following Justin's death despite knowing the truth.
Nice video, I hope you make more NC responses in the future. I especially like how you stated that the Gorillaz band are buddies with McCracken, i thought I have made my own Mandela effect that Craig made the Gorillaz characters because how it resonates with Ace and Gangreen gang and Foster’s. I actually asked Craig if he made the band in which he said no, but made one character. I think the reason why associate Craig McCracken and Gorillaz because of how their animation has some Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends vibes along with the former CN City period.
Given that Popeye is entering the public domain next year, some might wonder why we need another live-action film after the late Robin Williams' portrayal. If Genndy were to tackle the Popeye project again, he could acquire the rights for free from the public domain, considering Sony's cancellation of the project. The live-action film was likely announced because of Popeye's impending entry into the public domain. Many might have wished for an animated Popeye film before that date, but Hollywood seems intent on keeping a version of the IP under copyright, leading to the current development. Fortunately, the live-action Powerpuff Girls series was canceled due to backlash and script leaks, averting what could have been the worst CW show and the worst PPG iteration, surpassing even the 2016 reboot. We dodged a bullet there. 😅
Your videos on Doug Walker made me realize why people don't like him anymore. When I was a kid, I liked his sense of humor (although I always hated those review-long sketches he did whenever he couldn't use the actual movie footage.) I have to say that I don't hate Doug cause I try not to hate anyone, no matter how bad they are, but I have to say, I see why people don't like him anymore. Guy did a lot of bad shit.
11:56 Not gonna lie, having grown up in Australia, it looks so weird seeing a PG rating that *doesn't* have the word "mild" in the description (e.g. "mild animated violence").
THANK YOU!! also the PPG movie was actually really good. People said it was too dark for kids but as a kid I LOVED it. Children can handle hard topics.
Not to mention when he and some other youtuber (at least I think is one) were wrongfully ripping on the first Digimon Movie. And while I do agree that the second part after the nuclear missile thing did not make *any* sense whatsoever nor had a single kind of connection to the beginning of the movie, I do know that the Crotic was still missing no less than 110% of the purpose of the movie and the series. (Not to mention anime is absolutely NOT his strong suite whatsoever.)
Yeah, JessuOtaku got brought in because he (Note: JO transitioned some time after the review, I'm just going by updated pronouns) specialized in anime and this moment stuck out while trying to talk about Mamaro Hosota(?)'s direction of the animation for the original cut: Doug: Are you going to go on about this for a few hours? JessuOtaku: Uh, I usually do. Doug: My review, crappy movie first, boring anime bullshit later. JessuOtaku: Later? Doug: As in "NEVER."
Because Doug somehow got Fennah to do animation for his version of The Trial in his review of Pink Floyd's The Wall. And only gave Fennah 17 days to work on the sequence. And whether he got paid appropriately is debatable considering former Channel Awesome thumbnail artist Marobot was criminally undercharged for his work. And the review ended up being complete sh1t in the end.
@@MagmaPaint Woah, woah, 17 days? Shouldn't something like that being worked on for at least a month or two, especially when the animation is interacting with live-action?
I used to watch Nostalgia Critic alot from 2008-2013(or whenever he initially stopped doing it.) When he was still on Blip TV. I liked him because it was just him and no one else (I know his brother occasionally appeared and helped him behind the scenes, but it was mostly just him.) and there weren't that many movie reviewers back then (and even fewer that were good and entertaining) Since his Timothy green review , I can count the number of NC episodes I liked on one hand. Once in awhile I'll check his channel and I do like to listen to his older content in the background while I do tasks, but outside of that, I don't I don't really watch him anymore. Nostalgia Critic to me is an ancient relic from a bygone era that Doug is only keeping around because it keeps his lights on.
Not trying to defend Doug here, but he did say that he’s a fan of Tartikovski and his works. Do you really think he would make a hateful joke at the expense of someone he respects? Because I highly doubt it.
Ehhhh, yes, actually. Or rather, he's that unskilled at comedic and even serious writing that it backfires greatly. Case study: Demo Reel. Doug played an arrogant and incompetent director named Donny Dupree whose backstory got revealed and spotlighted in the final episode, "Blue Patches". The character backstory was a direct parallel to James Lloyd of Star Wars fame (or rather, infamy) being a child actor whose performances were hated to the point of mockery and harassment and as a result had to retire from acting and later developed mental issues Lloyd is still trying to get help for. Also directly paralleled and an even bigger stinging point is Elisabeth Hartman, whose final film role was Mrs. Brisby from Secret of NIMH, a film Doug has endlessly praised prior and currently, before her struggle with depression ended with taking her own life. Doug making Hartman a character just for his character's backstory comes across as really gross and disrespectful and going forward there's no winning with him writing jokes or serious material about people he does have respect for. Serious stuff fails because he can't comprehend the concept of empathy or that tragic cases of real people need to be handled with grace. Comedic stuff fails because Doug doesn't understand the difference between playful riffing and vicious mocking, he'll pull a Family Guy and confuse a reference with a joke, and because of how much things have gotten muddied by his lack of skill and what was uncovered behind the scenes, any jokes in that territory completely backfire.
Wow. You're really good at this. You're a lot more professional than Doug, your commentary is meaningful and well written, and you just deserve so many more views. Also I love your thumbnail art for these. It's so much better than Doug's thumbnails where he's awkwardly photoshopped in as a character. Hell, in the thumbnail for the video you're discussing, they left the tips of Mojo Jojo's ears in when it's supposed to be Doug in his place because the editing of the thumbnails of his videos is, and I hope I'm not being disrespectful here, crap
Got into this channel with the Rango review, and holy crap she really improved with time. I mean, I'm 6 minutes in and it's just ranting about The Critic doing basic observational comedy. "Glad other kids grew up without fingers" just doesn't feel like it's the type of thing worthy of this much attention at all, it just kind-of gives me Mr. Enter vibes in a bad way where he'll just hyperfixate on something while weirdly missing the point. I know this all sounds really mean, but it was just really jarring to see after the pretty good Osmoses Jones video and the genuinely solid Rango one.
@@MagmaPaintGod, the people at Channel Awesome (just Mike and the Doog Brothers) really need to sit down and think "Huh...maybe we f-ed up" Also unrelated, but if he shits on Ninjago (i don't mean the 2017 movie, I mean the actual 2011-2022 show, as well as the new Dragons Rising show), like this, im gonna be prettyyy pissed off, especially since I'm a huge Ninjago fan. (I sure said a lot for one comment lol)
9:02 Actually, “The Emoji Movie” wasn’t the reason why “Popeye” got cancelled. If anything, it was only cancelled due to the 2014 Sony Hack with thousands of private emails being leaked into the Internet revealing ALL of Sony’s dark secrets (being completely disorganized, animators hating their jobs, great talent being gone, Sony ImagewWorks moving to Vancouver, Canada, impacting the competitive sign that came from being L.A. based, and no respectable filmmaker wanting to be caught dead at the place), and this was all because a bunch of North Koreans were a bunch of babies when watching the Seth Rogen comedy “The Interview”, relating to the assassination of Kim Jeong Un. And because of that, Kristine Belson, had to reboot the reputation of Sony Pictures Animation, which resulted to not only the cancellation of “Popeye” but also the cancellation of other films, including Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Can You Imagine?”. So, yeah, long story short; The North Koreans are the reason why “Popeye” got cancelled, not “The Emoji Movie”. Sorry to disappoint you, Magma Paint.😔
I'm surprised you don't see the influence Ren & Stimpy had on Powerpuff Girls, or Dexter's Laboratory for that matter. Powerpuff Girls was riding the "edgy kids show" trend R&S started. Cartoon Network's move to original programming in the first place was entirely a result of the success of Nicktoons, but Ren & Stimpy was the main influence in terms of what demographic they went for.
To me Nostalgia critic fatal flaw to me is going to the movies using clips from clips and showing the full movie even know a real review is short and sweet and giving some inside and how you view it and point out the message and moral behind the story
7:28 jokes ok you nostalgia critic because one can say that Genndy tartakovsky has really come a long way since this movie and perhaps he’s went farther than you have. something else is that tartakovsky is Russian so saying something like that is kind of politically incorrect don’t you think
Tartakovsky previously created Dexter's Laboratory and later did Samurai Jack. Craig McCracken worked on Dexter's Lab before creating the Powerpuff Girls for Tartakovsky to collaborate on. Tartakovsky did a lot more stuff after that like doing concept art for Iron Man 2, creating Clone Wars and directing all the Hotel Transylvania movies and won an Emmy Award for Primal.
It's lose-lose with Doug and exposition or conveying information. Don't explain anything? He complains he can't understand it because the film doesn't. Have even a tiny bit of exposition or lore dumping? He complains about his hand being held.
@@MagmaPaintyeah 😅 it took me a long time to realise he’s never very great at reviewing 😶I admit i don’t remember why I ever liked his reviews 😅 because this is the third time I’ve been reminded of how annoying his voice is😳
What's insulting is that the animator you mentioned falls into the old trope of having dinosaurs with humans. If he doesn't want to take the time to research what animators actually lived with ancient humans why should Doug take time to do research about a kids movie?
Here's the rub: Genndy Tartakovsky actually RESPECTS the medium of animation even if Primal falls into that particular trap. He wanted to make something great regardless of tropes. Doug Walker, on the other hand, hasn't internalized or taken away anything from his years of doing his thing. As Dan Olson said, he wants to be a filmmaker and to make art (which yes, Nostalgia Critic is in that box) but Doug just can't because he's a fundamentally incurious person who isn't much interested in how others think or feel, nor does he care to.
@@MagmaPaint expecting one to do research and get facts right, but not the other is hypocritical. Either research is important or it's not you can't pick and choose
@@neilstone3583 Let me try this again: In any work of fiction, the rules can be literally whatever you want so long as they remain internally consistent. If an amount of real life inspiration goes into it, yes, research is nice and makes things more sound, though sometimes suspension of disbelief is going to have to be exercised. When reviewing something, you gotta be more thorough or at least know what the hell you're talking about so you can assess why something does or does not work or the extent a trope or plot beat can be bought. In making content that's fictional, like an animated series, yes, you have to learn the rules before you can break them. In nonfiction content, like a film or other media review, you don't get the luxury of breaking the rules and are expected to be more diligent in research. Adding onto that, if Nostalgia Critic was advertised as a comedy series, that would be one thing. But by his own words in his opening statements of his Garfield 2 review, Nostalgia Critic is meant to be an analytical review series and I will hold him to that standard. And by that standard, the show isn't informative or well researched, and I have seen his out of character reviews and he still doesn't know what he's talking about. The possible, heavy emphasis on "possible", exceptions are ones on media he's had an extensive relationship with, but other reviewers have gone further into them and more thoroughly. TL;DR FICTIONAL works do require research up front but can break these rules without much issue if the internal world is cohesive, NONFICTIONAL works require a higher level of diligence in research to take seriously as reference material. I really don't know how you came to the conclusion that I waive research on one and not the other. And if this is specifically about dinosaurs and humans in the same time frame, I don't see anyone getting bent out of shape over The Flintstones, Looney Tunes, The Croods, The Good Dinosaur, or one-off episodes in other shows that use the trope even though its scientifically incorrect. We know that now, but it doesn't stop people from using it because it's cool. What's next? Are you going to complain about Rugrats being scientifically incorrect because real life babies up to age 3 can't talk to each other but not adults like Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil can? Or are you one of those buzzkills who literally cannot separate fantasy from reality?
@@nathanblevins158 It appears to be a common thing in his videos and it makes my skin crawl. Not accusing him of anything, obviously, but his worst videos all have this feature.
5:16 Uh... I have problem of this. It's kind of bold to say that the Nostalgia Critic was not paying attention to movie when you were clearly not paying attention to the video. You said he "sites Ren and Stimpy as an influence" but that's what he was saying at all. his direct words where "Its was like a mix between Ren and Stimpy and Anime". All he said it was like a mix between Ren and Stimpy and anime he said nothing about it being a source so that whole rant is null and void because he that was not what he was talking about at all.
He in his other series "Dark Toons" on the episode "Twisted Sister" he made the comparison because of mixing both very detailed and very simple styles. That was what he was talking about when comparing the 2. Not that Powerpuff Girls took inspiration from them.
You're in the minority on that, but I find it charming and admirable that it wanted to do a different take on the original that still had the heart present. Vastly superior reboot compared to the 2016 show or whatever nuclear trash fire CW cooked up.
Granted I didn't like the reboot either, but I think you probably took the reboot joke too seriously (Personally I thought it was funny, sometimes it's fun to laugh at yourself, but that's just me). Same with the Genndy Tartakovsky joke, I think the fact that the man has had such a successful career made me think it was supposed to be a sort of ironic compliment, and it didn't come across to me as "mean" or anything. I think the intent of it was clear and not meant to be malicious at all. And I've seen plenty of people make these same jokes about successful people before, probably because it's so obviously not true that it's clearly intended to be ironic. I don't think any human, public figure or piece of media, successful, influential or otherwise should be exempt from being the subject of a joke or it's considered "an insult", that's a bit silly. Also, the joke about Mitch's voice "sounding like Popeye" didn't "annoy" me because it was just a quick throwaway line that didn't drag or anything, it's a harmless joke and also because, it's kind of.. well.. true. And his remark about the girls having no hands... was just a joke.. We all got it. You didn't need to explain it. I know it's cool to dunk on Doug Walker, and I'm not exactly that fond of the critic myself, but these just felt like nitpicks, especially since his overall thoughts on the movie didn't even seem that negative. His episode came across more as playful riffing commentary rather than him tearing into this movie like he usually does.
"a lot of dougs fans feel the need to attack any rebuttal video" it's almost like it's an online forum... you can say what you want, everyone else can do that aswell. If you don't like it then you're not cut out for content creation.
Not gonna lie, you seemed to really make a mountain out of a molehill with some of those jokes, especially with the Genndy Tartakovsky rant. The joke was literally just him joking that he went on to make a lot of popular series and films, if anything it was a compliment. I'm not trying to defend the critic, but I think your videos could certainly use some trimming and maybe you could tone down your presentation a bit when recording, because I'm less likely to hear you out when your screaming half of your points or using the moment to bash another show or movie that isn't really relevant to the conversation.
I've never watched Nostalgia Critic because I agree with his reviews. I've always him because I think his jokes are funny. I more rely on Jeremy Jahns or Chris Stuckmann for real movie reviews. LOL! XD
Motherfucker, I'm in the server he got booted from recently and even told him he needs to get his head on straight on his last community post, of course I know what he's done. Hey, if Doug is going to be the face of internet movie reviews, then I'm going to hold him to that standard. And that means expecting better coverage, better analysis, better arguments and defense of them, and better research as part of improving his craft. None of that has been present here or in recent years, and other reviewers that aren't as big but used NC as a starting template have been able to improve their craft and format with time so what's this guy's excuse?
Not gonna lie this video did come across as Nick Picking 6:04 especially, I mean, if a core part of their design, and especially them having no hands obviously you and Doug are entitled to your opinions but as much as you criticize him, you definitely missed a lot of marks on what he was doing and why he did certain things
Ok your just doing what misantropony does only somehow worse, nitpicking the crap out of every tiny detail and making them seem like problems. I agree that Doug is not a perfect reviewer but I can still tell when he's just making a joke and when he's geniunely getting something wrong. And I don't need to psycho anyalze every thing just to voice a problem I have with him either. Your just looking desperate and childish when you do that.
"This shows that Doug isn't trying to make an honest review."🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 He's here to make jokes. If you want serious reviews, go to Rotten Tomatoes. This video is called "Nostalgia Critic Doesn't Understand....." but the fact is, it's YOU who doesn't understand the Nostalgia Critic. HE IS A COMEDIAN, BRANIAC. He makes jokes. He's actually a HUGE fan of Genndy, but because you want to take JOKES seriously, you have somehow missed that, or are just purposely ignoring it. Just don't watch his videos if you don't like them. But everything you're complaining about is usually jokes.
I can see why one would like this film but personally think it’s mediocre and only worth a rewatch if you’re anything of value to do. The movie have lots of weakness like -soulless and dull plot -pretty unpleasant character designs -very bleached color background in the city of Townsville during the daytime or a dark and depressing atmosphere during the nighttime. It’s still a redeeming film though.
The internet will always be divided. I thank Demolition Man for predicting this. Doesn't all what he does is jokes. But eh.... Idc. I like the stuff he does, cause I like cynicism and snarky and making fun of shit. He can insult one of my favourite and one of the best movies in the world and I still find it funny. Insult me, Idc. I think people who watch his channel doesn't care anymore. Well keep up what you doing. Also, I hate pokémon aloha and journey. I'm such a troll

The next Nostalgia Critic response video is in the scripting stage and despite my obligations from the comments section on my last video tearing into Doug, I'm really struggling to find something to say that hasn't already been well articulated in Pirate Canvas' video.

What video was that?
Doug called the narrator and the professor as if though they were the same person but they're not
There's a lot wrong with this episode but conflating the two surprisingly isn't one of them. Doug was comparing Utonium to I think the professor from Gilligan's Island but I can't tell because he regularly pulls a Family Guy and confuses a reference for a joke while also under the impression everyone knows exactly what reference he made.
Saying a review is “their opinion” doesn’t mean someone else can’t have an opinion on their opinion and point out how their opinion doesn’t work.
Also it doesn't mean their opinion is well constructed and fully honest... Doug Walker just does these so called "criticisms" as part of his character (AKA EGO), not to his actual self.
We can all agree that this movie had a better story than PPG 2016

9:05- I know it's probably pointless to bring this up at this point, but this bears repeating. The reason Genndy passed Popeye on to another director (Yeah, he didn't cancel it) was to put all of his focus on Hotel Transylvania 3. It had nothing to do with the Emoji Movie. Everyone just assumes that was the case because it happened to be announced around the same time and is an easy target. Animat made a video talking about this and telling everyone about this when it was announced, and it seems like everyone forgot about that video less than a week after he posted it.
Well if that’s true then what’s taking the movie so long???
@@GamerMage2k-kl4iq According to IGN, it's because it was moved to another studio around 2020 and they haven't revealed any info on how far the project has come. Apparently, Sony couldn't think of any way to possibly stick to Genndy's vision, so they just handed it over to King Features.

When first hearing the news of a Nostalgia Critic review on the PPG Movie I was scared, mainly because of his sense of humour when making reviews on movies, especially good ones…
This is one of my favourite films and when seeing the video you made about Doug’s take on the PPG Movie I felt just a little safer…
Thanks for that.
You know what, I bet Doug couldn't sit through a state play given how impatient he comes across in his reviews
You realize that Nostalgia Critic is a fictional character who doesn't always share his creators views, right. The Critic is supposed to come off as impatient.
9:44 Also, does Doug not realise that some people talk to themselves out loud?

As someone who dabbles in his videos because I have some enjoyment (don’t judge me), I would like to add The Lion King as well with him thinking that they go against the moral of letting go of the past when Simba confronts Scar years later.
Heres something you forgot. “Cartoons now are better than old”. Two words to describe its major flaw. Over positivity. That and a lack of full depth analysis on each segment he goes to and especially on companies and makers listening to fans when sometimes they don’t or get way too obsessive with fan service and shipping. Star Vs is a good example of that
Pirates of the Caribbean
I can remember seeing the whole series on Megaupload (before the FBI took it down.)at night on an old Dell laptop with Windows XP
Anyway, Doug really did drop the ball and shit the bed with this review.
Nostalgia critic is not that great nowadays
I'd say his Osmosis Jones review was the point where he started declining hard and fast, though the Sailor Moon review could also be a point where the series rot started (that review aged poorly).
That’s an understatement in my opinion.
@@erikbihari3625 no. I don’t know how he got so popular. I could never tolerate him, even when he was considered good. He does the same things he calls out other bad comedians for doing. I even thought the annoying Orange was less obnoxious

"No not like that."

That's what I thought lol!

@Magma Paint what's your thoughts on the story, and how would you write it!?
@@mediamuncher69 Honestly the story falls squarely into "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" territory. There's the bit of continuity snarl if you take Mr. Mojo's Rising into account and a couple scenes do go on a little longer than needed, but it's very solid.
@@MagmaPaint I agree.

A good portion of the staff and artists on PPG also worked on Ren and Stimpy
Nice video, I hope you make more NC responses in the future. I especially like how you stated that the Gorillaz band are buddies with McCracken, i thought I have made my own Mandela effect that Craig made the Gorillaz characters because how it resonates with Ace and Gangreen gang and Foster’s. I actually asked Craig if he made the band in which he said no, but made one character.
I think the reason why associate Craig McCracken and Gorillaz because of how their animation has some Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends vibes along with the former CN City period.
I will agree what you said. i don't side with doug on the PPG movie at all you made your points very exselently.

So, yeah, long story short;
The North Koreans are the reason why “Popeye” got cancelled, not “The Emoji Movie”.

Someone probably already did, I'm not even knowledgeable on the Sam Raimi trilogy nor do I have the time to research them for myself.
Oh and McCracken did more shows like Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and Wander Over Yonder and Kid Cosmic.
It appears to be a joke…just not a funny one.
I'm not surprised XD he's been known to not understand media without spoonfeeding
@@neilstone3583 Let me try this again:
In any work of fiction, the rules can be literally whatever you want so long as they remain internally consistent.
The reboot its cancelled

He knows this show came on in ‘98 not the 80’s right?😅
I come from the future of 2024: the CW one never came because it’s script got leaked😅
That’s not what he meant. He’s saying they’re like shows from the 80s. such as Ren And Stimpy and animes around the time period,
I think Powerpuff Girls Z is better.
You're in the minority on that, but I find it charming and admirable that it wanted to do a different take on the original that still had the heart present. Vastly superior reboot compared to the 2016 show or whatever nuclear trash fire CW cooked up.
I agree! The anime needs more love, even without comparing it to the 2016 reboot
8:23 Not to mention, insanely disrespectful to Slavic languages.

-soulless and dull plot
-pretty unpleasant character designs
-very bleached color background in the city of Townsville during the daytime or a dark and depressing atmosphere during the nighttime.
