I’d say 95% of people that say the bubble championship has an asterisk is simply because the Lakers and Lebron won it. You opened with the clip of skip and touched on it yourself. A lot of players opened up about how difficult it was mentally to be stuck there during the playoffs. All their routines had to be adjusted and it messed with players. You did a good job explaining how the teams there got there and how their performances weren’t flukes. This is a championship with championship level talent and teams that had a unique venue; that’s it.

No, I disagree. The bubble has an asterisk because it was poorly handled. I don't care who won. Players skipped going, players got kicked out midway, teams wanted to leave and were unmotivated because the experience was so bad, and Brad Stevens was pacing outside of the arena having a mental breakdown. I would say Lebron is probably correct in saying it was hard won because the mental fatigue and situation was something no teams have dealt with or will probably ever deal with again. But I'm sorry to say it will remain an asterisk for me.

You cannot compare 2020 with 2023 because the teams are stractured very differently so you should not compare them because the names of the teams are the same !!!! Also the 5 months suspension made things very different because in the in between time if they play the rest of the regular season there is a possibillity that Davis because he is injury prone he could have got injuried until the time the playoffs started so that could change the outcome and resting 5 months he recovered from any problems he had and he was ready for a final run !!!

NBA players describe it as the hardest championship run ever. That fact that the Lakers and mainly LeBron capitalized on winning, speaks volumes on how mentally focused they were. Plus the Lakers were pacing for 65+ wins, even easily could’ve gone B2B champs if they weren’t injured mid seasons and AD going down first round with Bron’s ankle destroyed by Hill. Easily one of the most unique championship ever. Lakers winning another championship with LeBron and AD again puts that Bubble convo asterisk fully to the grave.

People who try and put an asterisk on it are truly lost. All of the teams were in the same conditions, so how on earth do some people try to reason their way into saying it was easier for the Lakers but it wasn't easier for any of the other teams?
Some of it is definitely Lebron hate. If it was the Lakers who had blown a 3-1 lead in the bubble with Lebron complaining about the bubble on social media, and the Clippers had won, these people would 100% be saying "Lebron was mentally weak" and "the Clippers proved they were the best under more difficult circumstances"

Look at the Warriors. He also lost to the Spurs twice when you run into a team where all the players know 90% of the team game you do. He is the best 5 on 5 player ever, but should’ve been more selfish at times.

Another was the nuggets going on to be down 3-1 three times and overcoming the odds twice. I don't think that will happen again in a long time. Speaking of Nuggets Jamal Murray was a winner on and off the court during that run.
Lastly, a few more I remember was Lou Williams getting in trouble for getting Popeye's, Jimmy Butler getting Rachel Nichols and the Clippers showing that they were still the Clippers.

I don't discredit the Lakers championship because of the Bubble. But I will say they had one of the easiest championships runs. They beat a 35 win Blazers squad who were in the Bottom 5 in defense. A 44(projected to win 49 games) Rockets team whose starting center was PJ Tucker lol. A young Nuggets team who were the best team they beat. And the projected 49 win Heat team who lost Bam and Goran Dragic. It was basically Jimmy Butler with some help from rookie Tyler Herro against 2 Top 5 players(Bron, AD) and the #1 defense in the NBA. Yes the Lakers were the 1st seed but still their best Playoff win is against a young Jokic and Murray Nuggets team who were probably exhausted playing in 2 straight Game 7s coming back down 3-1 twice.
Also, I don't want to hear players saying the environment in the Bubble made it the hardest championship. They were in 5 star hotels in Disney making millions of dollars playing pickup basketball while people outside the Bubble were struggling during the Pandemic. Some people at the wish they could live the luxury during the height of the Pandemic.

I think the damage that the Westbrook trade did to the Lakers is overblown. If AD still hypothetically gets injured in 2022, they're in the same spot they were in in 2021: probably a first round exit with near-0 scoring production off the bench. I guess that's better than missing the playoffs, but their 2023 and 2024 rosters are impossible without the Russ trade because they got Vando and D'lo through moving Russ to Utah. Maybe they would have had a better start to the 2023 season, but it's all hypothetical. LeBron still got injured in 2023 and still missed close to 30 games if I remember correctly in 2022. The only thing the Russ trade unequivocally did was restrict their roster flexibility, but to assume the Russ trade is the issue is to assume that the Lakers would have done better by leaving the roster completely the same (which I disagree with if the goal is to win championships) or they would have made a better deal eventually (which is only hypothetical).
