As football(soccer) fan that started playing and watching basketball later in life it's crazy how easy it is to become an NBA coach. You can basically be hired from the street. It's such a contrast to soccer where you need to study for a coaching license for at least a year. Plus there are multiple tiers of licenses and a team gets fined every time they are coached by someone without a license. I feel the NBA can benefit from some sort formal coaching education, because the amount of guys hired with little to no experience is mind boggling. I honestly don't know how NBA owners are comfortable letting these guys learn on the job.
I think its fine the way it is now. While that soccer tidbit is cool i dont think the problem isnt because coaches dont have licenses its that the gms and front offices hire nobodies to begin with. As well as just recycling old failed coaches, theyre the ones picking their own demise. They wanna be bad? Thats their choice, just look at LA and whats happening there
It’s an unwritten rule most nba coaches spend time as assistant coaches or work in the front office to get experience before being offered a head coach job. This is just the rarest case ever

This might sound crazy but looking at how many coaches LeBron has gone through. May give some insight into why he’s only been able to win 4 chips in his 20plus year career. Look at all the Dynasties and repeat champions in the NBA ever. They all have a stable and consistent organization. From the top of ownership, down to the head coaching staff.

I think this offseason showed how undesirable that job is. Boston's hottest assistant coach decided Charlotte was a better destination, Budenholzer decided that Phoenix was better (who are arguably in a worse situation than the Lakers), and they threw so much money at Dan Hurley only for him to decide he'd rather stay in college.

I understand that these things take time and that the Lakers probably won't be good for another few years. I'm really glad no FA signed with the Lakers as it's all explained in the video. What is "failure"? If what people have been saying is true, that Bronny isn't good enough even to be drafted with a second-round pick number that has produced maybe one notable player ever, is it more of a "failure" to be out of the league in a few years (absolute worst-case scenario now) or to have had the same name with a slim-to-none chance of making the league after 3-4 years in college? He at least gets to focus solely on basketball now and improve with the help of professional, NBA-level development trainers.

Lakers coaching job hasn't been stable since 2011. LeBron also clearly wanted them to get Ty Lue, a coach that he respects and speaks well of, and they fumbled. Is the job any easier because of LeBron? Of course not. But there are coach firings around the league every season.

I consider myself a reasonable Laker fan, so I know the Lakers are not going to be competing for a championship this season with these new additions, it's literally impossible. With this being JJ Redick's first year as a head coach, I don't expect him to magically lead the Lakers to a top 5 seed and to a championship nor do I expect Bronny to win ROTY. I understand that these things take time and that the Lakers probably won't be good for another few years. I'm really glad no FA signed with the Lakers as it's all explained in the video. No one wants to tank in value playing for the Lakers/Lebron and have their job a lot harder with everyone wanting Bronny and LeGM to be on the court together and hearing about it all the time, successful or not. I'd give JJ two years before being fired when they'd probably do another roster change to make the Lakers more competitive since their business move to draft Bronny may sadly not work out but they'd keep him anyway.

Lakers coaching job hasn't been stable since 2011. LeBron also clearly wanted them to get Ty Lue, a coach that he respects and speaks well of, and they fumbled. Is the job any easier because of LeBron? Of course not. But there are coach firings around the league every season.

And the difference between gp and lbj is that lbj will be right there on the court with him...how can any g league top that level experience? Sure he'll be hated on but his dad will be getting hated on right along side him
