The product is awful and the general public doesn't want to support a league where players miss much of the season to rest. It's a bad look for the league
ADAM SILVER GOT 77 BILLION DOLLARS, THE OLD DEAL WAS 24 BILLION DOLLARS.. the mighty nfl only doubled there deal. Adam has doubled the salary cap since he took over for stern and the cap is going up 50 percent over the next 5 years.
It’s even crazier when you factor in that you can be in states that don’t have teams and be blocked from watching “local” games. How is it that I live in Alabama and can’t watch the Hawks, Pels, or Grizzlies when these cities are hours away from me and not locally broadcast?
Stars have always acted like divas, that's just something jealous fans love to point out anytime something is going poorly. The modern play style and TV programing (or lack there of) are the primary issues.
I don’t think these players today give a damn about the regular season. And some don’t even give a damn about the playoffs. If they don’t care about the regular season, why tf should I

Adam Silver has to go. Let teams play defense. Ban ilegal screens. Call travelling. Punish Load Managers. Promote teams over star players. Media should talk more about how a team can improve without trading their stars.
UA-cam TV is dumb expensive and NBA League pass is expensive on top of that. People aren't watching because you need to get a loan from the bank just to get some eggs.
Everybody is scared to call out Silver because hes taken the lead on "player empowerment" and sht. He is the wirst commissioner in history. They need to stop making everything a foul and they need to stop giving players guaranteed money. Guarantee they will all play over 70 games.
I've always been against the contracts... They kill players ambitions to actually win when they're paid 🥱💯 Load management has been out of hand before... But some players can't be on a team and miss as much time as Kawhi, to wait n suit up come playoffs... That's not fun lol
@@Brandnnzzzthey don't in soccer. They should get paid but the NBA has been blocking working class black boys for black neighbourhoods for a generation and you can see the fruits now. They want easier to control players and everyone's bored.
For me its the abandonment of fundamentals. On offense, players are allowed to travel, discontinued dribble, and carry with the ball as they please. On top of that, defensive players are at the mercy of referees. Sometimes its hardly even basketball
@@Kings0424 Any game has rules. The point is to win within those rules. It's the limitations that make a sport a sport. As a side note, how are you both a Kings and Bengals fan? Genuinely curious question.
@lymphomasurvive Well I was born in Sacramento and grew up in my first 8 years of my life before I moved to Cincinnati and lived here until last year when I moved to Dallas. Besides I started watching the NBA and the NFL at the same in 2007 when I was 3 years old and I really liked both of those teams
I’m 50 and I don’t watch because I don’t see the effort from the players like I saw in the 70’s , 80’s and 90’s . There were much more driven competitors back then . Now it’s all about hoisting 3 pointers , back in the day you’d see Dominique coming down the lane crushing a high flying double reverse jam against fierce opponents. Also the game nowadays is played way too much on the perimeter , it’s no fun . Back in my day you’d see the art and strength of the post players in addition to having people like petrovic , Mullen , marovich that can shoot 3s. You had a more diverse roster. Talented Big men , slashers with incredible dribbling and penetration skills , dime dropping point guards , skilled COMPETITIVE ROLE PLAYERS…all on the same team ! That’s when the game was fun to watch !! Anything could happen! Guys wanted to win
I definatelly agree with you on mostly every point you made and I'd like to add that I think that how the game is officiated is very harmful to the integrity of the game. Today everything is a foul on the defensive end or a technical foul for even the smallest emotional outburst. Energy and passion is being punished, while flopping is being rewarded. The 3pt shooting is another issue...every team is chucking 40 3s a game and getting blown by cause defense is being punished. Also I think that the NBA NEEDS to reduce the amount of games played in the RS. At least to me most games throughout the season are absolutely meaningless and just waste everybodies time. It's revenue...I get it...but is it really, when more and more fans tune out and don't watch in the first place?!
@@useyourheadkThere are more talents in the NBA now, but the competition level has been slacking off. Viewerships had dropped dramatically because of that. Sport is about competition. When competition slacking off or stopping, fans stop watching.
I remember the “bad boy” era of the NBA and it was insane, every game. I liked the antics, drama, etc., entertainment ya know. Make it physical, incentivize scrappy games.
This is probably the most honest breakdown of multiple important factors. People tend to oversimplify the ratings thing and always want to pin it on one specific thing that bothers them. When in reality is a bunch of things
Rodney Reeves Front Office Sports 6-29-24 "The NBA continues to soar to new heights with a new $140 million salary cap and billion-dollar media rights deal looming. Despite the disappointment in viewership from this year’s NBA Finals, the NBA is riding the momentum of soaring sports property values." thats what the league will look like in the future.. soaring to new heights.
I think that playing tighter defense and more physical defense behind the line and bringing back hand checking will make for a far more watchable and difficult game. The issue is that every player is now all of a sudden a great scorer and if every player is a great scorer then nobody is a great scorer
@@TheSonson31 I can’t be both your uncle and grandpa my friend. But, yes I was spoiled watching pro basketball when it was fun to do so. I shared some season tickets in the late 80’s and early 90’s in the old Chicago Stadium so I was at some of those iconic Bulls games. FWIW, I also saw Jimi Hendrix live four times and Bob Marley three times, not to mention the Grateful Dead when Pigpen was still alive. So there. Now I have REALLY dated myself. 😁
That, AND the fact that games NEVER START ON TIME!!!! If a game says it starts at 7:30 then tipoff should never be at 7:41, like ever. And I know thats so the game are staggered or whatever but I dont careeee.

@@already8007 that’s another big one. I hate that there’s no definitive time for a game to start. It’ll be listed at 8 o’clock and it could kinda happen anytime in the next 20 minutes.
Can’t relate to the players. Millionaires taking days off because they don’t feel like performing….Players gaming the system using flopping etc….The leniency on travel calls….game is a mess. The only thing excitement you see in these games is when two millionaires start scrapping
NFL knows what’s up. Most of the good games are on regular channels at the same time every week. Every game is important. Until the nba stops punishing its fans they won’t ever overtake the nfl.
I think one reason why i prefer the nfl is because the season is crazy efficient. Its less but almost every game matters and there is no unecessary series. I never liked the idea of series and i favored 1 game per play offs. Maybe if it was a series i would say best of 3 is suffice. Nba for me seems bloated like i would not watch half of the season and it felt like i didnt miss out. I would say nba needs to cut out some games in the regular season but they wont do that. Too much money would be lost.
I hear the magic number for teams is to chuck up 50 threes. That's what the analytics guys are telling them will lead to success. Except EVERYONE IS DOING IT.
the optics of the game has changed too. too many ads on the court, these nba cup courts/jerseys are an eye sore and sometimes it’s hard to even tell who the home team is at first glance
NFL has absolutely ruined the NBA for me. I never really watched NFL until these last couple years and wow what a better entertainment product. In the NFL every single game matters, every play matters, seasons can end or go off in a single play, and finally there fewer games. The NBA has too many games, only about 20 games matter, and stars sit out. It's just an inferior product.
I agree. You can literally lose half of your 82 games and make the playoffs. In the NFL it’s rare to lose half of your 16, now 17 games and make the playoffs. The regular season in the NFL matters,NBA not so much
I'm 55 a certified old head and I'm here to say, everything the young soldier says is true. I've lived thru the eras and watched it devolve into what you see now. One the main problems we have is a weak commissioner. Dude is tragic. David Stern saw problems and addressed them immediately. Don't know why this cat doesn't. Not gonna take too much time, push the 3 point line back to where it used to be & bring back the hand check. That's two quick solutions....
Once people cancel their subscriptions, they will realize that they don't need them anymore and the nba will raise the price of the subscription to compensate
I used to love the NBA. But I grew up watching it back when Jordan was playing and it was a different game. Nowadays with load management, it’s pointless to buy tickets. If you don’t even know if you’re gonna see the stars plan. Also, the one and done is taking Talent away from college and putting it into the NBA before it’s ready. That’s ruining both leagues. The NBA is a joke and isn’t even worth watching until the second round of the playoffs nowadays.
I remember last year I purchased an NBA League pass, I live in Toronto. I was so pissed that almost 80% of the games were not broadcasted I felt like I wasted over $110 US..Never again!
Hope you got your money back. I live near NY and couldn’t watch Knicks Nets or any National games on league pass and that was enough to turn me to streameast
@@angelnieto316 yeah streameast got my shit looking like a sports bar. If the leagues came together and offered a great service like that ppl would pay for it
I stopped watching the NFL in 2018, NBA is real close to getting the same treatment. They keep getting paid more and we keep getting a worse product. It's trash. Stop giving them your money.
The product is great today they just don't utilize the TV rights properly. Illegally streaming is better than trying to pay for their product. They should've made a deal with UA-cam, Prime, or Amazon that allows paid and free viewing. Just have free users watch more commercials.
I can't stand the modern day NBA. I grew up on 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Where defense was played and teams had more plays than shooting 3s all the time. When the low post game was important. You had real rivalries. Load management didn't exist.
It’s just three point shooting, horrible flopping, and players crying about fouls. I stopped watching years ago when people cross half court and start jacking up shots.
The pick and roll is partially so broken because we do not call moving screens basically at all. I would say that around 70% of all screens set in the NBA are illegal, sometimes you dont have to change the rules, actually applying the rules would already help.
pretty much yep. nba players today set moving screens while also shoving opponents away in 90% of the cases, and refs are too scared to call it, same way they are too scared to call travel even on the most blantant ones...
The last 4-5 years there have been some solid high draft picks. BUT THEY DON"T MARKET THEM.... The national media doesn't, the league doesn't sponsors don't.... Just ugh
yea they don't market them becase all you americans want to see is rap culture gansgster shit. You don't even care to see a basketball analysis show which is why there is none of that anymore. Have fun with your Ja morants and Gilberts and clowns like Stephen A.
As someone not from the US, PLEASE give me an option to not have commercial breaks, I would pay extra. I would actually stay engaged. The rest of the world isn’t used to watching 1:30 of adverts every couple of minutes. If I could just listen to analysis during timeouts I would probably watch more of the meaningless games. Was watching a bucks game last week and there were basically 3 back to back timeouts and they play the SAME exact adverts over and over and over. I’m already barely interested in watching someone of these games and now I have to see the same commercials on REPEAT every couple of minutes???? The NBA are not putting out a good enough product to warrant that shit. Please someone let me know if there’s an option to no timeouts during timeouts
The league pass local broadcast isn’t as bad, but it’s not cheap… I actually prefer the local analysis too… national play by play talks random off court nonsense, not the game we’re watching.
@@jacobjones8448 unless I put money on a game it’s hard to watch a full game I don’t care about while hearing Doris Burke talk about a players private life, and I have to keep seeing the same Kia commercial every 3 minutes. Then at the end of the quarter there’s another break. Then half time an even longer break. Once we get to the 4th it’s sometimes back to back to back timeouts. I get it’s the way the sport is played they can’t just take out timeouts and breaks, but damn if I’m paying for it at least let me hear some analysis during all those breaks in action. Football (soccer) is a much much slower paced sport and yet I still find it more engaging (not entertaining) but more engaging because the only commercial break is at half time. The other 90 minutes the commentators are actually talking about the game and things I can’t see as a fan.
Major issue: NBA media consistently saying "THE REGULAR SEASON DOESN'T MATTER" This has drastically devalued the NBA in the eyes of the average fan. Stop devaluing the regular season. I find it so disrespectful to the fans and the NBA when the media devalues the regular season.
It’s true, I’m a HUGE NBA fan, watched games since 2009, watched like ALL of the NBA Documentaries and a basketball historian myself… however, it’s been tough watching the NBA the past couple of seasons man, and this year seems even worst. I said this years ago and people called me a hater. They run the same 2 or 3 plays into oblivion. Stars don't show up to work while asking the the fans to pay high ticket prices. You can't have it both ways. Eventually people get turned off and will stop showing up. Last year's Allstar game was an insult to fans. The NBA is a horrible product today and Adam Silver is the worst commissioner in any major sport that I can think of.
NBA don't have the same superstars of the 90's and early 2000's. There used to be more passion and rivalries which led to entertaining storylines. Now the players all get along and the rivalries are non-existant.
Ppl talk like they didnt have stat nerds back in 2010. The 3pt shot is so valuable now because you can shoot balanced since guys are catching a pass with 2 foot on the floor and then shuffling their feet to square to the basket, no call. They step back with 4 steps, no call. The offensive side of the ball have NO RULES basically. That's whats killing the game. You can catch a pass, hop, shoot. Pay attention, players do this all game, every game. No call. Sometimes they catch a pass and do a quick 1,2,3 footwork before the shot, it's insane the difference of percentage you can get by doing that compared to keeping your pivot foot and steping into a shot or hopping before you catch the ball.
thank you. shooting threes and analytics arent the issue. its the subscriptions, costs, load management, restraint on defence, and crappy officiating that's making it a problem.
I think Mase touched on this very beautifully on his show "It Is What It Is" when he mentioned Load Management is killing viewership. People spend their hard earned money to watch a good game ANNNNDDDD their favorite players playing. Imagine giving all you got to see your towns team or favorite player, and they aren't playing because they are injured or load managing games. Why see the game at that point? You have a few of these for the past 4 seasons...what do you expect to happen? Viewership going up?
yes load management is killing n views and not the fact that local games aren’t easily accessible, and every is subscription based. yes let’s blame the players only and not the flawed infrastructure behind viewership
I saved up money to go see the mavericks play the clippers with my wife. She had never been to a game and she knew Luka was my favorite player currently…before it was Kobe. The one game I go see, he was forced to sit, as it was Kyries first game. Luka was healthy, just not allowed to play. I was so pissed.

The number 1 reason for me for not watching the NBA is; The games are too long and the season is too long. Most times I skip to the 4th quarter of a game and skip to the playoffs of a season.
Make the game closer to fiba rules. 10 minute quarters Fewer timeouts Don't advance the ball to half court with a timeout. Speed up the review process. Speed up freethrows The MLB made some good changes to cut down the length of games and the NBA needs to do the same! I agree about some of the changes being made to get scoring up was good bit it was too far. Allow the defense to be more physical on the perimeter. Offensive players have been allowed to get get away with carrying and get an extra step for a step back 3. That needs to stop! Fans want true basketball! These athletes will adjust!.
Olympic basketball was much better. NCAA basketball has better rules. The NBA has evolved into a mess. The game is growing around the world. Their leagues will get better, more competitive and make more $. The NBA needs legit basketball rules. It's not good what it's evolved into.
One of the biggest problems in the NBA no one's talking about is the pace of play. They have to bring back the 24-second shot clock on offensive rebound. People act like that's not a big deal, but if you go per off into rebound, I've done the math you could shave about 3 minutes off the game which makes taking these reckless three-point shots completely different. Teams would adjust and only have their best three-point shooters taking those shots instead of the league having every wide open. Three-point shot just gets spammed to Oblivion
5. No defense 6. All 3 point shots 7. Outrageous player contracts 8. Weak, player friendly commisioner 9. Traveling and carrying allowed 10. Politics Lastly and most importantly, the players have no heart. If they don’t care, why should we.

Slight correction: the shot clock was first introduced to college basketball, because of the dominance of the John Wooden UCLA Bruins. That’s the team who the strategy was created to fight against, and it lead to many games ending in scores of like 20-10, or 17-13. So you were right about the 50’s era being when it was first introduced, you’re right about the reason why it was introduced, just off on which team and league they were playing in.
Similar 1985college national championship game- Villanova, George Town. Patrick Ewing. Villanova (I think)had a 1pointl lead, held the ball the entire second half, and won by 1point.Something like that. But the one thing I'm certain about-that was the most boring game ever
80s,90s,2000s, and 2010s we're greatest Basketball eras in my Opinion I still enjoy the new to a certain extent but mane I miss basketball been something that you could watch 24/7 and not get bored
The NBA banned zone defense in the 1940s because they feared it would change the game's dynamics. The league believed that man-to-man coverage was the essence of basketball and didn't want to change it. zone defenses were prohibited until the 2001-2002 season. The introduction of zone defenses faced resistance from players, including Michael Jordan. Put handchecking back and 100% people will tune in
You seen the details coming out of the Maxey/Philly team meeting? Shit like that would have never happened pre-2010. IDK why a dude making a quarter of a billion dollars for dribbling a ball can't show up to practice. Marketing is also, like you pointed out, a huge fucking mess. All I see on ESPN is LeBron and Bronny, Bronny stories dominating headlines even when he's playing like a bum in the G League. When LeBron was having his 3 straight triple doubles against trash can teams, Jokic was on his 4th straight triple double. Fucking averaging a 30pt triple double. Not one headline. You could have easily had an amazing marketing campaign of Jokic vs Giannis or Luka vs Tatum but the NBA is so concerned with propping up their aging superstars it's wild.
Nah, I think we were just really spoiled and experienced the peak of NBA starting from the Lakers 3 peat, 2012-13 there were so many good teams, D Rose was still healthy, Chris paul just got traded to the Clippers. Kobe didnt tear his achilles and got Dwight, and the big narrative of the evil supervillains the Heat. You can go on and on, even the lower level teams had real talent.
@ I loved that era myself as a Heat Fan. I would do anything to relive it. Even though we should have won 3 instead of 2. Plus each team had Their Own Style of Play, that I cannot dispute unlike in Today’s Game.
@@allengreene9954 I was a big D Wade fan but from Boston and obv a Celtics fan so it was an interesting and fun time for me as well. 2011 was deff surprising having Dallas win, but one thing you can deff say is any champion during that era deff deserved it. The finals were some of the highest level of basketball and Im thankful I got to watch. Yes, todays game is all high pick and rolls that are all illegal screens, side step/step back 3s, and going to basket just to get a foul call. To me this isnt basketball and I cant even go to the YMCA and play pick up because the younger kids, Im 32, all carry and travel.
The “gather step” ruined things by seriously blurring the lines of what a travel is. But A.I. ruined it when his crossover was allowed, when it’s clearly a carry. Now, on top of that, you have a gloried 3 point contest but it’s called NBA basketball.
@ I mean, whatever. Pretty sure I was five years old when Iverson came into the league .. He was the first person to carry the ball without getting called for it. Tim Hardaway had crossover. AI palmed the ball, took a jab step and then crossed over. I wouldn’t say he ruined the game of basketball, but he definitely made it worse.
The NBA needs some new rivalries. Curry/LeBron, KD/Bron, and even Curry/KD are primetime-worthy matchups and usually deliver every time. I want to see some beef. Like I want to see Ja and Ant really go at it. But I also believe the mainstream media (not limited to networks like ESPN) also do a HORRIBLE job at basketball topics. Curry, Bron, and KD are already established legends. But when you have guys like Perk, SAS, and Malika do nothing but talk about LeBron and the Lakers all day, then this is what you have and that's why lots of people are starting to deviate to non-mainstream platforms for content. Honestly, we do need to give the BIG 3 their flowers while they are here because when they are gone, I'm concerned what the NBA will be if things don't change
My major reason for not watching much lately is just that League Pass fucking sucks. That said, I too agree with the Shaq take. It's just the saying often attributed to Sid Meier, "Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game". Yeah it's about video games, but it's just a general truth.
As much NBA content as I have consumed over the years and tonight was the first time you have ever showed up in my algorithm. You got a great channel man. I may not agree on all of your take so far, but I love your channel so far. Now what you got to say about my thunder?
I come from the era Where you could watch every Sport on 4 channels network channels . Pro Wrestling , Pro Golf , Boxing , NCAA 🏈 & 🏀, MLB ⚾, Pro ⚽, & Pro 🏀, & Pro 🏈 , & lastly Olympics every 4 years. All on either Fox , CBS , NBC , & ABC. But once cable , Pay-per-view , & streaming platforms took over I stopped caring
Yeah, just got too expensive. The thing is I don't mind paying for cable. I don't mind paying for streaming services. I don't have the cash to do both. Given I can watch nearly any program and at any time without the hassle of a DVR? That's not a hard choice to make while having rabbit ears as a backup.
I think an underrated reason is how the draft/rookies don’t really turn teams around. If you are a bad team, you basically need to hope a good free agent wants to come to your team. Look at the NFL vs the NBA, the Texans have new life and fans feel like they are contenders… contrast that with the NBA, if you get a good player, it probably won’t turn your team around, and after their rookie extension, they will probably leave for a big market.
That's not really true. You got luka, Ant, Ja, Trae young for a couple of years had the hawks back relevant as well. Rockets turning things around with sengun and jalen green. Look at what giannis and jokic have done with their franchises.
@@BLee09those are exceptions not the rule, and Giannis wasn't that level of player until several years after he was drafted. Trae is all star good but not superstar good. Not to mention, even if you get a Luka or Jokic you need to have the pieces around them to win because every contender has minimum two top 25-30 players. So even when the Pistons or a team like that gets a guy like that, his confidence is immediately destroyed because he can't beat those teams alone. It's like any quarterback that went to the Browns before Baker.
@tropicmix8765 bruh what? I named 7 different teams that turned their franchise around through the draft, and that was just off the top of my head. Of course you have to build around them. That's how it works. What player has turned a franchise around without the team building around them? Even jordan has a team built around him and a coach to compliment him.
I tried to start watching the NBA when I was a teenager and it didn't last long. The reasons it didn't work for me is because there were so many games in a season that each game seemed unimportant and it seemed unimportant to the players too, like it was an exhibition game. Then I started realizing that in so many games the first 45 minutes didn't really matter and that the winner was decided by which team performs better in those final few minutes.
The reason why soccer has been around for so long and its popularity is unmatched is because there isn’t really a meta. It is such a rudimentary concept with fair rules that it doesn’t allow teams to easily exploit tactics…
Idk man, as a football watcher, yeah there's no real meta but it's far from fair. I will say we have better refs, they know their rules...the only problem is they are inconsistent with their calls. But you're not wrong about the No Meta thing😂 Your team will get banged on a good day. 😂
Soccer has gotten boring as well. Players don’t have the freedom they used too. It’s way too tactically driven and results and leagues are being dictated by accountants and lawyers
We should call the NBA the shooting game because that's all they do. Hardly anyone shows off their dribbling skills or amazing passes, or even does a memorable dunk. On top of that, there is major traveling in every game and foul is called for the smallest thing. The game is not what it used to be. And also these players miss too many games, it's like they don't want to play anymore.
It's funny to hear this is happening to the NBA because here in the UK, we have a similar concern for our football (soccer). I'm 42 and have never watched a complete NBA game, but I can definitely relate to the topic of conversation. It seems sport has become so monetised that the freedom of expression and unpredictability of a football match or NBA game (in this case) has become secondary to formations and tactics. We no longer see individuals stand out with exceptional skills, and now, results have become more important than entertaining the audience.
Warriors Cavs Was Peak Basketball. Steph changed the game. He created a system that everyone tries to replicate but when they do it. It doesn’t look as amazing as them champion warriors teams
Go with me here because this happened in the film industry multiple times and it's the exact thing ruing the NBA play style. - The Bourne Identity drops in 2002 and displays an entirely new cinematic fight scene concept. The fights were cut into 5-10 second long clips of mixed close up shots that made it feel like you were in the fight yourself. Beautifully done. So well done that every action movie from 2002 to 2012 and still some today have quickly cut and stitched together shots including extreme close ups. Almost NO film ever got it right until John Wick used that method and expanded on it by introducing gun-fu which is long sequences of choreography based on a few old niche Chinese movies. - Avengers drops in 2012 popularizing the beaten dead overused movie trope of "a beam of energy from the sky that will end the world" that was used in almost every mid-to-bad comic/adjacent movie until 2020 and I'm sure some still use it. Same thing happened in the NBA where the Warriors introduced a new style of play that relies entirely upon 3 point shooting. It was beautiful and history was made. Unfortunately, we are now seeing what we saw in the Film Industry and it's just as blatant if not worse. Copycat Syndrome is mimicking something, sometimes without fully understanding it and the same way those writers/directors didn't understand the styles they were imitating is the same way these coaches/organizations don't understand the Warriors. *These guys are NOT Steph Curry and they are NOT the Warriors* and imitating that play style without the necessary pieces is detrimental to the product as a whole. (If you read that entire thing you're dope & thanks for coming to my ted talk 🙏🏾)
I stopped watching about about 6 or 7 years ago. Its just not competitive. Nobody plays defense, nobody drives in the lane. Its just boring. People pull up from half court and miss. Its boring. Wasnt like that in the 90s. Its just gotten worse and worse as the league continues to hamstring defenses for the sake of offensive output.
NBA is turning into WWE. WWE had 10x more regular viewers in the late 90s, but they make 10x more money now off of a smaller group of die hard fans. Both have awful regular weekly product with the WWE's PPVs being like the NBA playoffs.
The problem is; who are going to be die hard NBA fans when the product is still trash. I have a simp friend who defends this trash to the end, but even he doesn't watch the games -just plays fantasy and bets...
The crazy part is they're selling out Arenas more than ever and making more money then they ever have because of the tv rights and deals. So how do u change something that is so profitable and that people are still watching?
Silver may seriously be the problem, but the NBA needs to change, and change soon before the NBA goes the route of the MLB where ratings are down and people who aren't diehard fans, become tired of it.
I went to the garden last year to watch the Celtics get molly whopped by a lebronless and A.D. less Lakers! It was awesome watching them live, but I haven't watched a full NBA game since, just a quarter here and there but mostly the highlights! There's something about it, it just doesn't draw my attention like it once did.
Ratings don't matter. The NBA as a whole is making more money than ever. Just look at the salary cap (which is based on the income the NBA makes) and the salaries players are making now.
This is what Adam Silver has done for the NBA James Dator SB Nation 5-4-24 *NBA’s new TV deal is worth $76 BILLION, and the salary cap is exploding again *A report from the Wall Street Journal indicates that the agreed to deal with NBC, ESPN and Amazon will be 11 years, $76 BILLION - shattering even the high-end of expectations. *Sean Marks, general manager of the Brooklyn Nets told the New York Post that he expects that by 2032 these supermax contracts will be worth over $100M per year due to the new media rights deal *-The future is ludicrously bright for the NBA, and players are destined to become some of the highest-paid athletes in history because of it.
It’s Ridiculous I’m from NC and can’t watch Hornets games unless I buy more streaming services. Your home team should always be accessible to watch on cable
I think the main factor for viewership is price, and everything is tied to subscriptions. Shit's not cheap, and the cost of living has skyrocketed, which means less money for entertainment. I do agree that defense needs to be prioritized and honestly they should bring back hand checking
Hard to watch the NBA when ticket & arena prices are insane, streaming services are bad and ppl can’t even get access to their own team home games

All this but more the 2nd half. You complain about ratings when fans physically can't watch the games whether they liked it or not

Pay attention, players do this all game, every game. No call. Sometimes they catch a pass and do a quick 1,2,3 footwork before the shot, it's insane the difference of percentage you can get by doing that compared to keeping your pivot foot and steping into a shot or hopping before you catch the ball.

I miss the 2010’s nba.
The number 1 reason for me for not watching the NBA is; The games are too long and the season is too long.
Most times I skip to the 4th quarter of a game and skip to the playoffs of a season.
Make the game closer to fiba rules.
10 minute quarters
Fewer timeouts
Don't advance the ball to half court with a timeout.
Speed up the review process.
Speed up freethrows
The MLB made some good changes to cut down the length of games and the NBA needs to do the same!
MLB need to do more even they boring 😂
Why the F should we copy fiba? We invented this game. FIBA bastardized it into something soft and weak and boring.
Olympic basketball was much better. NCAA basketball has better rules. The NBA has evolved into a mess. The game is growing around the world. Their leagues will get better, more competitive and make more $. The NBA needs legit basketball rules. It's not good what it's evolved into.
Facts they scoring too high now
@@thebenc1537soccer has more contact than whatever you call that thing you watch
1. Load management is killing the game
2. Draft doesn’t produce anymore stars anymore.

Similar 1985college national championship game-
Villanova, George Town. Patrick Ewing. Villanova (I think)had a 1pointl lead, held the ball the entire second half, and won by 1point.Something like that. But the one thing I'm certain about-that was the most boring game ever

Load Management is worse than the amount of 3s being chucked up.
Put handchecking back and 100% people will tune in
Damn I didnt know that
You seen the details coming out of the Maxey/Philly team meeting?
We watch it just not the places they want. Why do I gotta pirate NBA because everything isn't uniformed? They do it to themselves
Is it me or Basketball Fans (at least in the USA) are the most unhappiest and pessimistic fans in the World?????

The “gather step” ruined things by seriously blurring the lines of what a travel is. But A.I. ruined it when his crossover was allowed, when it’s clearly a carry. Now, on top of that, you have a gloried 3 point contest but it’s called NBA basketball.
You officially gain Unc status if you’re bitching about AI
@ I mean, whatever. Pretty sure I was five years old when Iverson came into the league .. He was the first person to carry the ball without getting called for it. Tim Hardaway had crossover. AI palmed the ball, took a jab step and then crossed over. I wouldn’t say he ruined the game of basketball, but he definitely made it worse.
Everythings free on the internet my guy
Curry,Bron, and KD already owned the 2010s,The League is focused on their middle prime players
It's crazy to me they don't have team specific streaming packages. I only care about one team (Lakers), I dont need a league pass for all 30 teams
And then you have to pay 60 bucks a month for spectrum sports package.
got rid of spectrum last year. Why pay for cable when I'm paying for internet.
@manz7860 yup, it's all so greedy. Ripoff

2 years ago I payed $109 for league pass, $40 for Sling, and $70 for UA-cam TV

The reason why soccer has been around for so long and its popularity is unmatched is because there isn’t really a meta. It is such a rudimentary concept with fair rules that it doesn’t allow teams to easily exploit tactics…
This. Gotta get back to SIMPLE and CLEARLY DEFINED rules.
Idk man, as a football watcher, yeah there's no real meta but it's far from fair.
I will say we have better refs, they know their rules...the only problem is they are inconsistent with their calls.

Rise of gambling big factor can’t watch a game if I’m not betting on it. I know it’s sad . . . 😢

For me I’m been getting more into Soccer lately after the 2020 Championship I”ll lost interest in the NBA

Lower arena prices. Get rid of the 3 point line. Allow defenders to do their job.
