gonna just leave this here:
glarses will not approve of this keyboard for the mx browns
When you say you've never seen those stabs before do you mean Costar style stabs or are these something different?
not available in italy. :'
Donated $50. gaming PC win would be neat, but that program is awesome to bring gaming to kids in hospitals. Hit me right in the feels. (Bonus: There's a Make-A-Wish one too for a Subaru Outback, so I tossed $25 there) . Now I'm going to go back to being a horrible human being the rest of the evening.
Are you going to Review the Makaka 67 when it releases?
I love the fact that it looks like an old school Cadillac that is Tiffany blue with chrome accents.
Definitely has that vibe! Reminded me of like a 1950's refrigerator finish or something.
@@badseedtech i feel that! There was a 50's/60's themed pizza place near me that the walls were this color too, i completely forgot about that place. This board is nostalgic now!
BadSeed Tech they actually sell a mini fridge in that style at Best Buy. For like $150 usd
I only finished school early just so I could hear “You ready?... Let’s go!”
Some people have special place in their heart for filco. They were the one of the few companies that kept producing quality mechanical keyboards during the dark age of the mechanical keyboards in 2000s.
Still do, one of the best sounding stock boards there is next to topre
The progression of video editing skill from a while back to now is awesome 👌
I'm subscribed to a lot of tech youtubers and you by far make the best videos. top tier content.
Good stuff as always Brian, this is some sick gear!
I love the look of those keycaps man. I dont know why, but they look really freaking cool.
My favorite youtuber. This channel deserves million subs. Been watching your old vids.
Using one of this, mx silent reds, did not regret my purchase. It is just such a joy to type on and for light gaming.
With some channels you just go "meh" when they release a new video after a while. Not this one, I always love to hear the "Let's go!". Fast paced video, covering all aspects, great music. I'm really glad I'm subscribed to this channel.
Been seeing ads for Omaze, your video made me decide to pull the trigger on a donation!
As already mentioned, those are Costar Stabilizers. Pain to swap caps, but a good feel. WASD, old Razer, old Cooler Master all used Costar stabilizers.
Many years ago, Filco Convertible line was the Bluetooth option for Mechanical keyboards. Filco has been using Mini USB for a long time, and while this new release is using BT 5.1, their design is not much changed from the older Minila Air.
The Minila was the option for a 60% back in the day, and is so popular, that it is one of the rare layouts you can find cheap caps for on AliExpress. Which is a good thing, because the old model has thin pad printed ABS caps.
I love the keeb videos! Keep em coming!
I was obsessed with wanting a Minila for like two years and never bit the bullet because of the keycap sizes, but damnit you're going to make me want one again. I already have like 8 keyboards Brian!
@@goovindnarula6470 Nope! Haha. I have about 10 keyboards, but I'm using a full size HexGears keyboard now with Box Whites for a while now. Just haven't bothered changing it out, works for my gaming needs. (Games like Ark:SE use the keypad so I prefer to have one now)
I love Filco. They're legends. Got one for work and am debating getting the Hakua TKL for home.
“Caveman bottom out typing” haha I love it
Love the video! Looks like a great keeb, thanks dude!
Been eyeballing the minila air for a couple months. Glad I waited because this bad boy is perfect and even matches my setup
Good review. Seeing you have already reviewed a few "unique" and wireless keyboards, it would be nice to see you review the Durgod Fusion. I know they're pre-production but some reviewers have been sent samples. Hopefully you get your hands on one. TIA
Wow, you are first out of the gate with this review.. The first edition of the Minila Air was the first mechanical keyboard that really caught my eye (especially with Bluetooth in 2015), but if a board doesn't offer full programmability these days, especially at this price, I'm not pulling the trigger no matter how good it looks or feels. The HHKB finally got with the programmability thing, but I've yet to see any reviews that cover that aspect in any detail. I suppose I could try that Hasu USB to USB converter/controller thing, but it seems like a weird way to get a programmable board.
i see what you did with that sound test...
hi glarses
Filco is a keyboard legend! They're a Japanese mechanical keyboard brand that predates pretty much all the MK hype we have today... They have been on this game since the 2004 and they are so far removed from what people think it's trendy today that it shows in their products. And you know what? That can be a great thing! Yes, their cases are plastic (thicc plastic), yes they only use Cherry switches, yes they use Costar stabs, yes most of their keycaps are thin ABS, but in the grand scheme of things, and depending on who you are, none of those things matter.
Their keyboards are designed to have a good balance between price and durability (remember: their main focus is the Japanese market and they take their "durability issues" very seriously over there 😏). Having said all that, I love the quirks of this little Bluetooth board (and I can see a modding project to replace the cherry switches in this thing coming in my future 🤔)!
A great thing? They are stuck in the recent past like the majority of Japanese companies and ignore innovation in the industry.
@@kidShibuya Again, this might not be for you... Companies like Filco and Leopold are not in this game to win any beauty contests for sure (and it doesn't seem they care about any trends coming from the custom MK scene, which they probably don't mind because it is not their target market anyway).
But from all the pre-built boards I have (and I have quite a few), my Majestouch is one of the oldest (circa 2012) and it still looks and feels brand new (it is the only plastic case keyboard I have that has zero flex and creaks).
They're the company that created demand for reds. For the longest time they had the only board and it was a limited release which made people think it was better.
@@IOSam abs keycaps are super low quality and I hate the fact that it uses cherry switches but I can fix the keycap problem easily but the switches on the other hand...
@@viperlife914 Yes, I agree that the keycaps (at least in my Majestouch) is by far the weakest point. Although it seems that in this keyboard Brian reviewed the keycaps situation is far better than the stuff Filco was doing in the past. I think one of their motivations to ship crappy thin ABS caps in the past is because they sell their own line of more premium keycaps that they'd hope you'd pay extra for, which is a shady move on their part of course (Leopold doesn't do that, for example).
As for the Cherry switches... Well, that is a "problem" with lots of pre-built keyboard brands out there still... Many of these companies still rely on Cherry because they know their target audiences don't know any better (and actually might think that Cherry is still the "gold standard" as Linus S. once infamously said). In Filco's defense, their relationship with Cherry is so old (they might have been one of the companies responsible for Cherry's "resurgence" as a brand --circa 2010) that it might still be a factor when offering other switches (which might be same problem with the likes of Corsair here in the US).
At any rate, I have my Hakko FR-301 desoldering gun ready to address that issue... 🔫😎
loving the vids recently mate can you review the matrix cables?
2:54 loool
Glarses when he hears the board has cherry mx browns: 🤢😡🤬
@Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu "best" does not belong in the same sentence as "MX"
Filco mj2 are old school , nice to see a new board from them
I’m glad I didn’t skip like I usually do cause omaze is such a great foundation
Hey Brian, have a question, those MX Browns are the retooled ones or the scratchy ones?
Weird just scratches the surface🤯🤪
Great vid keep the good work up
Are you planning on doing a video on the Keychron K8? its hot swappable, bluetooth, and a tkl layout. So far only smaller channels have had unboxings
Isn't the keycaps removable part to become possible to remap keys accordingly with different layouts? Like colemak and so?
Quality keyboard content! :D
I know this isn't the right video but should I get the fulla 3 or the sound blaster X3 which one has better audio I don't care about more features just straight up music for music and gaming
Those are called 'Costar' stabilisers (as a namesake of Costar, the OEM that used to manufacture boards for Filco, Cooler Master et al, not sure if Filco still uses that OEM or not, but that's where the name came from). It was a fairly popular way back when Filco boards were still one of the easiest way to get full programmability for your mechanical keyboards (via aftermarket replacement TMK/QMK compatible controllers like the Pegasus Hoof or Frosty Flake, which turns your Costar-manufactured keyboards into fully TMK/QMK customisable pseudo-customs, way back in the early days of the customs mechs).
As for the stabilisers, they are pretty much standard, but not really that common anymore because Cherry style stabs are easier to work with and less fiddly to install/remove
Damn, thank you fr! This was quite the history lesson. 👊🏼
The Razer Blackwidow Lite uses the same stabs. They are annoying to work with, but they sound nice (those come lubed as well).
I was wondering, will the Drop ENTR review drop in the next weeks ? Only 20 days left on pre-order I'm hesitating so much...
I have one of these, the Filco Convertible. Works perfectly on anything but Windows and I can't figure out why. It's like the signal is bad (I have tried different bluetooth cars/usbs, and different PCs) where it sometimes has quite significant latency, or a key will get 'stuck' for a moment. Is there some settings or something I need to get right?
Love my Filco Convertible TKL though I need to swap out the caps.
As a long time minila user, I definitely understand the layout design. It's the only best. All the other minimal layout keyboard makes some nonsense FN combination key design. E.g. most of them have arrow key shortcut using FN combination. But they are designed on the right side. So if I can type on the right side, why don't I just type the arrow key directly? All I need is an alternative to type arrow key on the left side. Minila is the only one does it.
Two more days i will have my matte black version delivered. i got the silent red and i will be using my novelkeyz cherry taro keycaps on the board as well as using my varmilo 10key pad with browns to pair with it.
Just donated. I don't even care if i win so long as my dollars help out these kids. You're a legend for this one! Keep doing it big my dude!
Thank you brother. Was such a great cause, there was no way I could pass that up.
NiZ EC Keyboards use that style stabilizer, but the NiZ boards don't have the banking issue. I sort of like the look, but they really need to reconsider their switch options.
Is the keycap completely PBT? or only the base part of the keycap is PBT?
Are the keys in this keyboard custom programable?
Cracking review as always mate...though that banking on the keys is a massive no go for me. Especially the amount of of coin you throw at it. Anyway there is my 2p on it (I’m from the UK and my name isn’t Jay 🤣)
just plug a Mini USB cable from the USB A passthrough to the Mini USB port on the board and BOOM = wireless keyboard
lame jokes aside, i love seeing such a unique keyboard like this. I'd love the try even just the keycaps alone
Those like the stabs Costar use, which is not that weird since Costar is usually the OEM for Filco keyboards. Razer also has the same type of wire stabs on their older Blackwidow Chroma.
Hey BadSeed Tech, I ordered a ducky one2 mini only to find out I would have to wait months for it to arrive. I also ordered a Keymove 61 Snowfox to replace the keyboard I spilt me coffee on quicker without cancelling the one2 mini.
I have been using the Snowfox for about a month and a half now only to have the ducky to arrive. Is there any chance you could review the Keymove 61? Its heavier, has thicker keys, works in wired or wireless, and is hot swappable. I have seen all your keyboard videos and I think this is one that would fit right in with your current reviews.
Currently I am using the silk series switches on my qwerty and aliaz switches on everything else. I have committed to clipping the silks yet, I was waiting to see if soldering them into the ducky one2 mini would be worth it. Now im not so sure. I have relied on your opinion so much in what keyboard to buy I was actually hoping you already had a video with the answer of whether or not I should use the snowfox or the one2 mini. Currently my ducky was ordered with kaihl pro burgundy switches.
Those keycaps look really nice
I've been using the old version of Filco Minila for a year and I just placed an order for minila-r. Kinda worried about which one to use later...
Hey, take a look at Keychron boards! For example, K6 or K8. They are hot swaps, Bluetooth, type-c, win/mac and rgb for ~100$. I am an owner of the K6 and I love this board :)
Can you do more non conventional format keyboards? 96% layout or maybe 1800 layout? I think that would be cool.
This is one wacky board. Pretty cool to see though. Thanks for the review!
That is an interesting stab design for sure but its something that an old CM-Storm keyboard of mine has. That thing is def over like 5 or 6 years old at this point I think? It had the same stab design.
whats the song in beginning when you show off the keyboard (intro)
what are your thoughts on the loxjie p20 amplifier?
Owner of a UK ISO Filco Majestouch 2 full size, with Cherry MX Blacks and Filco's own tall spherical double shot semi-uniprofile keycaps. Typing like a caveman on a 1982 BBC Micro Model B hard! ;-)
Just dropped a donation to Gamers Outreach, thank you for sharing!
Those are costar stabs, sometimes found on prebuilt keyboards, notably on some Razer boards.
It actually sounds really good for a prebuilt
Awesome keyboard. Awesome review. Now i need to find a Benzo to touch some plastics
Filco keyboard is the number 1 item on my list of what should I buy everytime I go to Japan. lol
0:45 LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I almost skipped that Omaze information but I am glad I did not. Good cause
Lol I know how some people feel about the Omaze model so I felt the need to specifically say “please don’t skip this”. Such a good cause it was an automatic yes from me.
Love my Filcos, but I never could get down with the Manila. Sure is a looker, though - really interesting keycaps.
After watching this review, I bought one and I really like it
Those are Costar stabilizers and the reason for why you have 2 fn keys is that this is closer to a JIS layout.
Been waiting on your Glorious GMMK White Ice edition review. Saw awhile ago on twitter that you got the TKL. Did you end up not liking it enough to review?
Nah, it JUST came in a couple days back. The first run sold out super fast.
Looks like Costar Stabilizers for those wondering. Filco uses them on everything.
idk why a keyboard enthusiast doesn't know or have seen them.
@@LtGeorge01 I think he's an enthusiast but just hasn't delved in too deep. I only know about it because I had bought a Filco Majestouch as one of my first Mech's years ago. Cherry Blues, typical newbie thing. But I still love how it feels and sounds... there's definitely some sentimentality there... and so it stays in it's box in my closet :P
Aren't those just costar stabs? Looked pretty standard to me. Should be able to pick them up @ WASD Keyboards as accessories / parts.
You're getting exhautive, that's really cool :-)
The stabilizers are the Costar Stabilizers
watching during online school rn
Filco, now that's a name I haven't heard in a while
Review of the Blitzwolf BW-kb1 coming soon? 👀
Wow, pretty board!
Reviews I’m waiting on from BadSeedTech: 1. Dygma Raise 2. Glorious Model D- 3. Whatever product Glorious has been teasing with BAMF Sensor 4. Glorious upcoming holy panda switches 👀. Lets go man, I can’t spend on anything without your stamp of approval
Seconded on the raise! I already own one, but I'm still interested to hear what other people think of it, especially people like Brian who have a lot more experience with high end boards.
FWIW I really like the raise. The fact that it's hot swappable is great for experimenting with switch types in the quest for your perfect switch. The ability to swing half of the board out of the way frees up a fair bit of space for low sens gaming as well, not to mention the benefit of extra thumb keys, which I've gotten so used to that I'd honestly struggle to go back to a regular 60%.
I am buying the black one on sale to swap out the keycaps haha.
Come on, Filco.. we love you.. but Mini USB? In 2020?!?!
are you considering a tokyo v4 build?
honestly not disapointed by lack of usb c on all these pariphrials most pcs/laptops come with one MAYBE two usb c ports and the number of dongles that add editional usb c ports to a pc are slim to none and very expensive. i KNOW this will change with time, i remember back when usb 3 was this way i would not knock any paraphernalia in 2020 for not being usb c.
Keycaps are PBT ??? or ABS ???
I saw those are PBT on the other videos.
It's PBT top + ABS body
Very interesting.
Nice.
You better really like those keycaps.
honestly i feel like too many of these keyboards are sleeping on split space bars.
having a function key between the split space is godly when it comes to layers on a 60% or reduced size keyboard. simply having that second layer within reach for a single hand to press the function key and then keystroke you need goes a long way to making a 60% not feel like a 'compressed' layout.
Gamer Time
What is that mousepad you were using?
Black/Grey version of the Aqua Control Plus
Just put my $25 in, surely going to a great cause!
Nice one!
CAVEMAN BOTTOM OUT TYPING! LMFAO i thought that was your standard typing.
Goddamnit Brian my wallet hates you but I love you! I collect 60% keyboards. Gonna suck to get Keycaps for this but Preordered with your link!
Btw have you heard of the ASUS falchion wireless keyboard releasing sometime soon?
After that sound test, I expect to see a Bruhmat on your desk soon
lol cant wait to join the group buy
here from school best content
Thoughts on the Glorious Holy Pandas?
That's cool, looks great. But that cost and only having MX switches is a real let down.
Also is "Hunday" how Americans say Hyundai? Couldn't quite figure that one out.
Did he ever get the info that those are Costar stabilizers?
I did. And I've actually grown to appreciate them
@@badseedtech they're a pain in the ass but they're a really good feeling and sounding stabilizer.
Now I need to see :3wildcat mod this with lubed switches
Nice vid
That keyboard seriously looks sexy as heck
You should review the keymove61
