John 2:14 - In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Extraordinarily ecstatic to find this conversation here. I have read and listened to Surrender. I have known of U2 since they began, but was not a huge fan until reading the book and understanding what they are all about. Want desperately to see Bono at the Beacon Theatre in NY. It won’t happen because of cost, so this video is a gift. Thank you.
I did go to the show in Chicago, and yes, it was powerful in person, but the audible version of the book has practically the same content and songs, if that's any consolation!
@@jessicasyd1 I also came across a great filmed conversation between him and Eugene Peterson from a few years ago. Look up their two names together on UA-cam and you may find it. The photography and personal commentary are excellent. It's just 20 minutes long.
What Bono has realized like a great many others, is that at the end of it all, the wealth, popularity and woman cannot satisfy man and never will. Joseph and King David realized this and they were great men that were realistic. What is so amazing about Bono is that he his great by acknowledging this and surrendering to God. He is man enough to be in public platforms to speak about this Awesome God which is Jesus Christ. Not many celebrities are bold enough to do this because they would rather chose wealth than God but Bono knows much better, he has searched and has found the truth. God Bless you Bono!!! you are a honest and sincere man.
I’ve listened to U2 since the 70s. It is a measure of the depth of wisdom in their lyrics, that I am still discovering them! Bono can be irritating at times, but the honesty in his book (Surrender) opened up new understandings for me as a non-religious follower of Jesus Chrust.
Great interview all round, but I was particularly impressed with the bit starting at 46:12 around religious belief. You can tell Bono is a man of deep faith, but can relate to and admire those that aren't.
Deep faith? Since he has great wealth and seems to care about the greater good of humanity, why doesn't he do as Christ preached. Give it all away and follow him.
The power of God transcends our understanding of the supernatural as it appears even when we are not looking for it! Bono a rock star resets the movement of christ consciousness by expressing his most intimate life experience through the creation of his music which in the final analysis is that God's gift to each one of us is our talent and what we do with it is our gift to God!
Thank you from my whole heart: Stunningly beautiful renditions of Clannad's song & of MLK!!Goosebumps & tears! Also truly inspirational to hear the Dean speaking about U2 and their lyrics...a vechicle for the Holy! And:not the least,Bono:Thank you from my whole heart for sharing your faith and giving me LIGHT HOPE!
The Clannad song, “Harry’s Game” is one of idolatry - of “following” a young man (not God), That’s why it was chosen, for these speeches of blasphemy, idolatry, etc. It was idolatrous in the Red Rocks video; and it’s even more idolatrous with this. There is NO holy spirit from God associated with this evil event of outrageous blasphemy, idolatry, and spiritual lies!!
I’ve been a big fan of Bono since I was 12 years old, but he veered off into some top line BS at times. He often says things that sound really good, but when you really think about it, it’s mostly fluff
Bono is nine months younger than me, and I wish I had a tenth of his personal insight and exercised even a little of his own self-discovery. My own mother passed away this past Christmas and she was as much a mystery to me now has she had been her entire life. This conversation has me reaching back to my faith, which I have not followed or participated in for decades, but it remains their to comfort me. She didn't need to ever tell me who she was to herself; if I search myself, I realize I know all I need to. Love supersedes all.
I have loved U2's music for 35 years. Musical lyrics and agenda are always intertwined and Bono has been able to further his social agenda through his fame and the band's fame as he stated. It is incomprehensible that people actually regard music and movie stars into some type of subject matter expert of which they have no expertise.
There are few singers and song writers who can really be called “Bard”. They mark the time in beats and lyric. Bruce Springsteen is one. Muddy Waters another. Bono deserves, and has earned, this title.
You have The Edge, but also have the other 2 (and you know it, no doubt). I'm still amazed at what Mullen did on the song Bad, sustaining the edge's christal strings and enhancing your own voice.
The light of Christ will come to you through music. Bono yes thank you for your experience and view. It is the love of God that will free your soul. And walking the light in body is what is available now. Yes to Art in Gods language. peace to all
Bono talking about finding Jesus in an AC/DC song called Highway to Hell at the Washington National Cathedral makes it just under the wire as the greatest thing anyone has said in 2022.
“They say they want the Kingdom, BUT THEY DON’T WANT GOD IN IT.” Jehovah the Creator and Universal Sovereign God has His own globally-given scriptural terms, requirements, and standards for human beings, for pure worship of Himself - that is the worlds one true global religion. And that’s exactly what the Satanic godless are warring against, just as prophesied in type - and that is why this this whole world is now once again nearly completely ruined.
Totally pagan, blasphemous, and in opposition to the One who created - but exactly prophesied in type to be popular with the bulk mass majority; with those who would so unrighteously choose to “render sacred service to the creation rather than the One who created.” The outcome of that is known, and will be tragic, for many, soon. (Romans 1: 25,32; Psalm 37: 10)
The hunger is real and his experience is part of a higher sense of purpose to alleviate the surly bonds of the mundane that can define a life unexplored.
I remember going through the Dandalion market in Dublin circa 1979 seeing the lads play, 1981,82 seeing them play in the Phoneix Parl Dublin with Big Country, Eurythmics. After all these years they are still progressive, still inventing, still finding themselves. Thank you Larry Mullin Jr , (drummer), Adam Clayton (bass guitarist), Edge (Lead guitarist, vocals), Bono ( Lead vocals). When I'm at work, which I am privilaged to do working on mountain paths, Croagh Patrick being the work in progress at the moment, the on going joke is every band playing on the radio according to Tulio our Brazilian worker is Bono and U2, no matter who is singing on the radio, makes me laugh everyday I still love listening to U2 along with my local band from Limerick The Cranberries. But to see these guys still inventing, still wanting to produce new music, sill have the passion after 45 years is huge (awesome even). They are up there with the great bands and singers of all time. I say keep creating lads and love to listen from a lad fgrom Limerick, working in Mayo Ireland.
The closest I've been to a church in 30 years, but I'm so glad to hear a different version of God/Jesus/love than the one put forth by so many religions.
“Different” from globally-given, scriptural truth, warnings, laws, standards and requirements - from the Creator and Universal Sovereign God Jehovah - makes most of the worlds religions more appealing, to most people. People “looking for” anything but whole-scriptural truth from God - to “custom fit” whatever it is they desire, no matter how unconscionable or scripturally God-condemned - can either look for an anti-whole-scriptural false-to-God religion or ideology that suits whatever it is that they want to have “spiritually supported”, or else make up their own religion and be their own god. But, that’s all basically Satanism in a nutshell - “do what thou whilst” - the oldest, deadliest, most evil scam there is. There is one Way to having a viable relationship, with the One True God and Heavenly Father, and that is to learn about Him, His Son, and God’s own scriptural truth and heed it, put faith in it, exercise faith in it, take a stand for it - that forms this worlds one true global religion, under the One True God. There is no other. (John 17: 3; 3: 36; 4: 24; 8: 32, John chapter 17; Ephesians 4: 2-6; Psalm 83: 18) Tragically though, most people don’t want spiritual truth, and don’t actually even care about having a good, viable relationship with their Maker. They do not care. Why should anyone wonder too much why this world is now a life-hostile, evil-filled mess? It’s really a duh thing. And the right answers are also duh things, because God already has had the whole world scripturally Informed. Hello, hello….
@UC06Ont9pKrkyxfWaqemCnQQ Wow. I guess I'm flattered you took the not so small effort to correct me. Unfortunately this kind of "certainty" is what I find objectionable and that gives aid and comfort to those who would hate and ostracize those who are different instead of embracing all.
I'm torn with Bono these days. Either he is truly one of the wisest and most amazing rock stars there is or he's just up his own rear who feels he is a supreme human being and loves the sound of his own voice. I cant work out which at the moment but he is very eloquent. The song the choir sang at the end was stunning.
If you think the latter, then my question would be... What harm is done by this? However, I think Bono is very introspective. He walks the walk. He has been married to the same woman. His is very tight with his bandmates since their band's inception, as teenagers. He has done great humanitarian work. These are the acts of someone who is decent..... There are and have been plenty of people with his fame and fortune and none of these things ever cross their minds. What more do you require?
@@frankz479 he doesn’t pay his taxes. This conversation didn’t need to be in a church. That alone is sanctimonious itself. He’s a blowhard. It’s easy to be a humanitarian when you make as much money as he does. I can go to a war torn impoverished country for a day a week a month whatever and go back to my mansion too. It’s not that hard and I shouldn’t get some bizarre credit for it.
I used to be the world's BIGGEST U2 Fan!!! It's easy for me to say, I'm NOT anymore, BECAUSE of their POLITICAL views!! I NEVER paid to HEAR it during a CONCERT!!! 😡
If he were not deeply touching many others, he would not continue to receive invitations, honors and so on. The strength of personality that it takes to project as he does is both necessary for the work he does and hard for others to fathom.
I loved the story of Bono's mother laughing while trying to discipline him:) LOL! HA! Reminds me of myself discipline my own kids:) Of course, I'm a dad and act like his mom:) It's hard man, kids are gonna be kids:)
Interesting to hear Bono refer to his mum as “her name is Iris by the way”. He used the present tense, not the past ie. “her name was Iris”. Clearly he’s eternally minded.
The book was a mixed bag. Bono is exceptionally great at vividly painting pictures in the readers minds and explaining motivations, emotions and social intricacies. When he is writing about himself or U2, past present and future, he's as deadly an author as any. However, out of the blue, about 60% of the way through the story, the book abruptly changes course and Bono bluntly begins hammering out "Orange man bad" "Clintons are Godly", "Soros is the best" "middle Americans are bigots" and "I did so much awesome stuff for Africa!" - all without any explanation or justification. The book becomes a giant session of self aggrandizement, praise for the ultra elite and a massive diarrhea dump on millions of his and U2's fans who are conservative minded. It was an unbelievable literary left turn and IMO, destroyed his book. His editor was obviously too afraid to tell Bono the truth and instead, 30-40% of the book is ignorant moralizing and ego stroking, of both himself and other high profile individuals.
@TruthStream You nailed it. I forgot to mention an entire chapter devoted to praise of Bill Gates. Of course no mention of his trips to Epstēin's island. And if memory serves me correctly, he does indeed praise Fauci in the book, too. These are the very types he used to rail against.
My God, that was a hair-raising rendition of "MLK" at the end by the choir. Glorious performance of a thoughtful anthem. It was sweet of the audience to start to sing "How Long" ("40") while leaving.
Why? Within the whole, actual Psalm 40, there’s God-inspired speech of examples of true, truly faithful servants of God “[using] religion as a crutch” (like B here just publicly voiced disdain for) - rightly expressing their dependence on God; asking Him for help; and gratefully thanking Him and praising Him for His help and blessings. To such truly faithful humans, the Person of God and His Son are REAL, as they actually, in reality, ARE.
Wow, watching this reaffirms to me at least that his skill of diplomacy sails straight the head of a lot over a lot the nay sayers. Sure he might be like an embarrassing Dad, but I do love him and U2.
I wonder why it is that when a person stammers for profound thought and words other people are so often more impress than they are with what God has written.
Yes, to the Harry's Game theme, which originally was performed by Clannad. U2 used the original recorded version to open and close their WAR tour back in 1983. You can hear it at the beginning and close of the Live at Red Rocks video.

Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”
@@socalled33 That would fit, more, if it was a gathering place of true, scriptural Christian worship; but this is more like a pagan Pantheon; or a temple of Artemis, pagan goddess of war and other things, etc.
@Margaret Sch. Thanks for sharing that. I saw a great interview w Jon Meacham and Bono at the National Cathedral. I believe on You Tube.
I agree this interview is very special!!
Margaret, glad you liked it.
Love there music though. Edge is an amazing guitarist
Excellent! Thanks you. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
@@patricialavallee8286 I never said Christian, I said faith. The two are not the same. You can have faith or be of a faith without being Christian.
This was absolutely amazing... and hats off to the soloist singing MLK at the end. WOW!
You seem nice
He certainly was gifted with the Irish gift of blarney
I’ve been a big fan of Bono since I was 12 years old, but he veered off into some top line BS at times. He often says things that sound really good, but when you really think about it, it’s mostly fluff
He is full of it. Always has been. Now he can’t even hide it behind a decent U2 album as they haven’t had one for years
A very thoughtful and inspiring discussion. Loved this!
An intriguing, in depth, insightful diatribe.
A necessarily in-depth, authentic, humorous, courageous and brilliant conversation.
Lennon/McCartney?!
For me this is amazing. Il am a christian i love all people
You have The Edge, but also have the other 2 (and you know it, no doubt). I'm still amazed at what Mullen did on the song Bad, sustaining the edge's christal strings and enhancing your own voice.
The cathedral is breathtaking. 🙏😇
Bono, you surprised me, Maybe things do get better with age. The choir! - Brilliant!
There is no Jesus in ACDC
Nor in the entertainment, media field
The God they worship is far FAR from Christ
I can’t believe he has only just discovered our Aussie “Acca-Dacca” after all these years! 😂
@@BirdNatalie That's nothing, I found God in a horror core song called "Return Of Da Baby Killa", which is way darker, so I win
Just wait til you hear him remove your rights and freedoms at DAVOS!
29:26 Warren Buffet impression was on point. Awesome conversation!
I wish my destiny takes me to this Cathedral in my life time Bucket list
If I could see the band for 5 minutes. I would book a flight to Dublin ASAP!
Your two sentences are actually just one.
@@thomasluby1754 yep just needs a comma
I like the way he separates spirituality from the religion business.
“They say they want the Kingdom, BUT THEY DON’T WANT GOD IN IT.”
Jehovah the Creator and Universal Sovereign God has His own globally-given scriptural terms, requirements, and standards for human beings, for pure worship of Himself - that is the worlds one true global religion. And that’s exactly what the Satanic godless are warring against, just as prophesied in type - and that is why this this whole world is now once again nearly completely ruined.
Why was this talk held in a church?
in the day of my birthday it's a beautiful present for me! Thanks Bono
Surrender to the Oneness that Life is. That we all are. Very inspiring interview.
ONE. One world, one world religion
My response has been shadow banned, again.
Outstanding interview. Highlight: the Johnny Cash impression singing Highway to Hell. Hysterical. And great point with it too.
The hunger is real and his experience is part of a higher sense of purpose to alleviate the surly bonds of the mundane that can define a life unexplored.
Wonderful man!
Thank you for sharing this 🙏❤️🌈🦋🙋♀️😊
Thank you Bono x
My all time meet would be bono, I absolutely love this guy.
i wish he was a friend of mine
(John 17: 3; 3: 36; 4: 24; 8: 32, John chapter 17; Ephesians 4: 2-6; Psalm 83: 18)
Tragically though, most people don’t want spiritual truth, and don’t actually even care about having a good, viable relationship with their Maker.
I grew up loving U2 from 1981 well into the 2000's.
Me too....but? I explain elsewhere on this thread why i am disturbed by him now
@@saucyjk6453 Why?
Achtung Baby was the last great album.
He is the later.
The latter
Great, great, great man!
Mr Hewson , try sneaking into an Orthodox Cathedral . The Divine Liturgy is awesome! You will be in awe.
I have sold the book. Wat fantastic that could enyoin this. 👏👏👏🇳🇱
You did what now?
If you can here hope rather than here hopeless, sit and listen and U2 will surround you. Be good to yourself
I have to give it to him, he's a true legend in his own mind
If he were not deeply touching many others, he would not continue to receive invitations, honors and so on. The strength of personality that it takes to project as he does is both necessary for the work he does and hard for others to fathom.
@@margaretsch.3609 he's a globalist. With the gift of Irish blarney
Wow as a fan of U2 this brings it to another level, activism screams louder in my heart then ever before and I thank Bono and them for that gift.
thank you!
I loved the story of Bono's mother laughing while trying to discipline him:) LOL! HA! Reminds me of myself discipline my own kids:) Of course, I'm a dad and act like his mom:) It's hard man, kids are gonna be kids:)
Awesome.
Truly.
Interesting to hear Bono refer to his mum as “her name is Iris by the way”. He used the present tense, not the past ie. “her name was Iris”. Clearly he’s eternally minded.
O Bono é um grande coração ❤
Thank You 🫂
I find it uncomfortable that Bono goes to DAVOS
He does not discriminate.
He is a huge activist and influencer! Nothing bad about him.
The world loves him, he is of the world unfortunately.
These are the very types he used to rail against.
i love this man
“If my faith is a crutch, throw it away - I’d rather fall over.” Good stuff.

There are many people "serving" in US government I wish to have listen to this......
Bono you amazing! You Rock!
If you are trying to profess LOVE, COMPASSION and FREEDOM,,, politicians are the wrong company to keep
In this interview as in many other before he says he loves the people who don't believe
Philosophy is not the problem, its the Cabal who operate covertly.
Watching just now with tears. How nerve wracking to sing that with Bono so close.
@@maryokeefe2405 Right??!!

You've been reading too many kids books lately. That quote sounds nice but it bares no resemblance to reality.
I wonder why it is that when a person stammers for profound thought and words other people are so often more impress than they are with what God has written.
Surrender to capitalism is the motto.

I recognize the piece sung at the beginning but do not know the name of it.. Anybody anybody Bueller???
It's the theme from a programme called Harry's game
Yes, to the Harry's Game theme, which originally was performed by Clannad. U2 used the original recorded version to open and close their WAR tour back in 1983. You can hear it at the beginning and close of the Live at Red Rocks video.
Thank you.
