I am no fan of Danny Murphy but I agreed with a lot of what he said. The spectacle of football is worse because of the ridiculous forensic analysis on offsides and /or the VAR room chiming in on incidents in an inconsistent manner. Originally I wanted VAR to remove goal/no goal like Lampard for England or the Spurs goal against MUFC. Every single time football is slowed down it heads towards American football which for me is not why I watch it. For the record I also agree with Simon that VAR gets more right than wrong. Maybe speed of decision making is the key?
I don’t care anymore about how right the decision is and the subjective decisions still not getting it right. They could get 100% of all decisions right and I’d still hate it. Purely because of disallowed goals, and not being positive a goal is a goal until a minute or 2 later. Absolutely ruined everything we loved about football. We live for our team hitting the back of the net and celebrating. Barely celebrate goals anymore. VAR is awful when you’re a matchday goer.. football is dead 😭
I'm with Danny 100%! The millimeters offside calls are excruciating to see. It's getting worse. Give the advantage to the attacking player, it's been like that, the advantage used to go to the attacking player now it favors the defender, the attacking player will always lean forward, hence, advance few inches forward.
I've always said this, just give the benefit of the doubt to the attcking player. Often we see really good goals getting ruled out because some guys sleeve was offside. Its killng the game.
If a goal is not ruled out for being "millimetres offside" Paulo, then how far offside must a player be before he is offside? It must be the same for every match, every team, every player. Therefore the line has to be drawn somewhere which means wherever it is drawn "millimetres" over that line will be enough to be offside.
@@markchapman2933 Just the fact that the conceding team don't even complain the legitimacy of the goal says it all. It's true that offside is offside, but the forensic analysis in every goal scored is ridiculous, if that's the case then they should also have to look at every session of the play for a possible offside offense, not only when a goal is scored. It's not good for football when you see referees doing their best just to disallow a goal, they are looking for every tiny details just to rule it out and it's ruining the game. The technology was never about the toe, shoulder, armpit, forehead inches offsides; it was for the "clear and obvious" errors, meaning, the blatant errors that somehow the referees didn't spot or ruled very incorrectly which these offside calls are not. For there to be an offside both feet/heels of the attacking player has to be completely forward in relation to last defending player, the way it is now it's creating lazy defending and inhibiting the whole process and art of attacking. As if it's not already too difficult teams will now have to find for even more creative ways to score a goal just to ensure it doesn't go the surgery room (VAR) to see if it lives or dies
But Danny is wrong about offside. The law states that a toe is offside, so until they change the law, then VAR is correct to rule those goals out. That's like saying the speeding law was introduced to stop people driving at 50mph on residential streets so you can't pull me over for doing 32 🤷♂️
@@magikarpsplashy what are you talking about? How does that make him wrong?? Before VAR when was anyone flagged for being offside by a toe😂😂?! Never, and making road speed analogies to offsides in football makes you sound like an even bigger twat😆
@Campbell Moffat and they wrong not to flag. Look up what the offside rule says and then you'll understand why you're wrong. And I'd rather be a twat that's correct than a great guy that's a pillock 😁
@@magikarpsplashy you arent correct though😂 Before VAR nobody had ever been flagged offside by a toe, how could they have had that down as a rule when technology wasn't as good even 5year ago otherwise we would have had VAR a long time ago, anyone that has played football at any level growing up, especially as a striker learned how to bend the run playing of the shoulder, etc and there needing to be in front of the player by at least a full arm and leg, etc never a toe so you can talk about what the rules say all you want that isn't the topic of discussion here it's about VAR decisions being ridiculous and Danny said how stupid that rule is so all you are doing is repeating yourself about a rule that was only introduced with the VAR technology not before and everyone including footballers agrees how stupid it is and it should be changed back to before with that rule obviously you haven't played the game at any level because nobody that has would make a ridiculous statement like what you have just made🤭
Goal line technology worked a treat. The problem with VAR is that it does not focus on the clear and obvious mistakes - instead it tries to microanalyze everything.
No, that was the start of this foolishness...if goal line then why not other things too? The difference between winning and losing is not whether something crossed the line or not...a team can also lose due to a wrong throw-in, a wrong offside, an undetected foul, a dive etc....As soon as you start messing with the simplicity and fluidity of the game you are chipping away at it.
Jimbo complaining about MOTD pundits by saying "I'm Not Having It" yet he's on here having same narrative describing VAR & officials week in week out. Need to take a look in mirror Jimbo
Simon roasted Danny on the problem with football punditry here. There would be no VAR if ex footballers didn’t want to keep to hammering ref decisions for dollar on tv.
The whole reason all of these people have jobs is because football is a globally popular leisure activity and form of entertainment. Danny was trying to make that point several times but wasn't allowed to get a word in.
I think we all watch for different reasons...for me the entertainment comes from the jeopardy of the game not celebrating goals adding a wait after goals are scored is more jeopardy not less...I like VAR...so who died and elected Danielle here the entertainment expert?
My three points to fix it. 1 have Webb lead it. 2 mic all the refs for the stadium and fans can hear decisions. 3 have interviews for reffs after games to hold them accountable

Absolutely loved that clip... see what happens when you are allowed to debate rather than just throw insults at someone they don't agree with. Both had valid points and neither scored points yet both opinions were heard and listened to albeit with Jim interrupting 🤣 . Me personally VAR has made the referee on the pitch act like a scared little child afraid to make a decision incase he looks like a twit on the big screen, but then it doesn't help when the ones looking at the screen can't help the guy that's making the initial decision in the first place. Scrap the offside scrutiny of an armpit or hair offside give the advantage back to the attacker make the criteria be if its a whole foot in front of the defender or the full shoulder or a part of the chest then call offside otherwise advantage to the attacker for his momentum stuff like that then it will be quicker to make decisions. VAR has taken away common sense literally by refs not thinking basic common sense.
One of the reasons for VAR was the, Maradona "hand of God" goal, for example VAR has changed the football in a way I didn't expect, example, the centimeter offside decisions. This is a great argument. Danny has great points. Simon also. This is an important topic in football, today.
Danny’s point about football being entertainment is absolutely spot on. Now when a goal is scored first thing in my mind is that the VAR bods are franticly running back through 30 seconds of play to find something to rule out the goal. If you are followed by the police for long enough, they will find a broken brake light.
Simon and Danny actually have an interesting debate. Danny is very cool headed and articulate, Simon, at least forwards the argument and makes intelligent points, It's a fair point to make that. The only reason we var there in the first place is because everybody in the media was moaning about referees. That bald guy in the middle. However his lights are on but he is clearly not listening
The only problem I have with VAR is these silly offsides where the attackers toe is just in front of the defender it's ridiculous! They should change the rules and give the attacker the benefit of the doubt if the offside decision is to close to call with the naked eye. It really is that simple!
Even bringing in ex players won't help. Depends what generation they are from, and they'll still have to go by a guideline and rules. And what they see and what we see will always cause a stir. VAR was the last nail in the coffin that changed it from a game to a business.
The offside rule should be changed and made easier for everyone. In my opinion, there are only 3 options. 1) Get rid of the offside rule 2) Use automatic offside technology or 3) offside sounds be when there is daylight between the attacker and the defender

I felt psg offside 82 min goal was a joke toe offside come on
I've always said this, just give the benefit of the doubt to the attcking player.
Open the mics like other sports and use the pitchside screen more !!
I think the issue with this might be lower leagues can't afford the big screens and technology required
I usually agree with Simon but in this occasion I agree with Danny, especially when it comes to the offside by a toe
But Danny is wrong about offside. The law states that a toe is offside, so until they change the law, then VAR is correct to rule those goals out.
That's like saying the speeding law was introduced to stop people driving at 50mph on residential streets so you can't pull me over for doing 32 🤷♂️
@Magikarp Splashy shut up you GOON 😂
@@magikarpsplashy what are you talking about? How does that make him wrong?? Before VAR when was anyone flagged for being offside by a toe😂😂?! Never, and making road speed analogies to offsides in football makes you sound like an even bigger twat😆
@Campbell Moffat and they wrong not to flag. Look up what the offside rule says and then you'll understand why you're wrong.
And I'd rather be a twat that's correct than a great guy that's a pillock 😁
@@magikarpsplashy you arent correct though😂
Before VAR nobody had ever been flagged offside by a toe, how could they have had that down as a rule when technology wasn't as good even 5year ago otherwise we would have had VAR a long time ago, anyone that has played football at any level growing up, especially as a striker learned how to bend the run playing of the shoulder, etc and there needing to be in front of the player by at least a full arm and leg, etc never a toe so you can talk about what the rules say all you want that isn't the topic of discussion here it's about VAR decisions being ridiculous and Danny said how stupid that rule is so all you are doing is repeating yourself about a rule that was only introduced with the VAR technology not before and everyone including footballers agrees how stupid it is and it should be changed back to before with that rule obviously you haven't played the game at any level because nobody that has would make a ridiculous statement like what you have just made🤭
They are getting it wrong on a video replay technology. That's mental
Sorry but Jim White is the biggest muppet going
I dont understand how he still hosts a show hes a moron
slow sports news
Jimbo trying hard to join up The Jordanite Club Association, but we have refused his letter.
White and Jordan love the sound of their own voices.
Simon is absolutely on point here, Danny can't remember what he said yesterday
Jimbo complaining about MOTD pundits by saying "I'm Not Having It" yet he's on here having same narrative describing VAR & officials week in week out. Need to take a look in mirror Jimbo
Jim sticks up for his mate far to much.
it's getting disgusting.
@@bringinitdown. It reminds me of when I was a young lad who got loved up by an older woman.
What aren't counted are the instances where VAR don't even look at.
My three points to fix it. 1 have Webb lead it. 2 mic all the refs for the stadium and fans can hear decisions. 3 have interviews for reffs after games to hold them accountable
Can you get me the 4th pint please Walter, Peroni please pal
How about you become ref since you know it all
@@kevinkilbane2007 so your ok with around 5 terrible calls every weekend that hugely affect the outcome of games and has everyone talking about the calls instead of the games all week? and don't want an explanation on it your just ok with statements like "sorry we got it wrong this week" when its every week? this is what you want in football?
Well done Danny! 100% on your side.
The fans going to the game (all who matter as Danny rightly said) are not for var.
That pause to see if the goal stands spoils the moment of celebration for players and fans
Let Danny speak ffs!!
Simon always believes he knows beyond everyone and would never allow you to speak whilst he talks above you .... unbelievable
Snow Man He's a Narcissist, loves himself, and never allows anyone to speak! Danny was correct, and Posh Boi was an absolute 🤡 Pity about the Crystal Palace job Simon, not over it yet???? PMSL!!!

@@christopherwayne6275 😂 😂
One of the reasons for VAR was the, Maradona "hand of God" goal, for example
VAR has changed the football in a way I didn't expect, example, the centimeter offside decisions.
This is a great argument. Danny has great points. Simon also.
This is an important topic in football, today.
Those 3 keep Talksport relevant! 👍✌️
Danny’s point about football being entertainment is absolutely spot on. Now when a goal is scored first thing in my mind is that the VAR bods are franticly running back through 30 seconds of play to find something to rule out the goal. If you are followed by the police for long enough, they will find a broken brake light.
also repect to danny keeping his cool ,as simon does seem a a bit directive towards danny
His jealousy is fierce, he doesn't like the fact the guys on MOTD have all done good things in the game, and takes it out on Danny.
Joe cole and Rio Ferdinand: "be angry Danny!"
Simon, "guys like you" includes you
Scrap VAR !
It hasn't worked out.
It hasn't helped the ref's and it has just made more questions.
it's not VAR it's the fact that PL officials aren't fit for purpose, VAR works fine in other leagues
Once again Simon Jordan is right. I didn’t used to like him but he says what we all think
Used to think Simon is just someone that likes arguing! But I was wrong, this man has wisdom.
Bet you like Jeremy Clarkson and Piers Morgan
@@Denchanter - Simon is miles better than those two idiots. There’s substance in Simon’s argument.

by listening to talkSPORT now I have increased my vocabulary, yesterday I learned about pontificate, today vociferous, thanks
I don't care the experience, I just want the right decision.
You clearly never been to a football match live then

Danny Murphy has surprised me recently. One of the better pundits
Always a great show when simon is there
Danny is right this time, you don’t let him finish his point, and even worse dismiss it
Problems started when football media went from being 10 minutes at the end of the news, to 24/7 Channels and stations that need content,
Ref watch on sky sports is a joke.
Too many fans are experts but don't even know the laws of the game
Murphy argues like a teenager.

I'm not Danny's biggest fan but this was abit ridiculous. He hardly had a chance to form a sentence or two without Jim interrupting him.
Hey Danny! I feel for you going up against these 2! They act like politicians.
You should watch some Rugby games while the six nations is on and watch how well they manage and communicate with players!
THIS IS HOW FOOTBALL GAMES NEED TO B REFEREED
Well done Danny for keeping it real you done well against two bullys
Jim the out of touch dinosaur strikes again
‘What do young people have to do with it?’
Why is VAR not an issue in UCL or Fifa tournaments? A bad works man blames his tools. Anyone blaming VAR is deluded. It’s the awful referees using it.
