I actually really liked Martin's input on this topic, was getting a bit sick of Simon waxing lyrical about Boehly and Chelsea these past few days with nobody pushing back. He likes to have it both ways sometimes, defends them to the hilt but reverts to "well I don't like their level of spending" when someone questions him on it.

I don’t understand it. It’s Chelsea’s money, they’re the ones taking risk. They might not spend for 2-3 seasons after this summer. And will clear out the squad and might get between 100-200 million for them. All the young players are signed for very less salary and all fringe players who will be sold earn more than 150-200k per week. So salary on books will be less. If players flop it’s on their head and if players do great than it’s risk worth taking. If arsenal owners had done the same, Martin would be licking their ass like a fangirl. He is just pissed and knows Chelsea from next season can be dangerous. That’s jealousy

We bought 8 or 9 players in Summer 2020 & won 2021 Champ League (& many of them did Not work out)...... Martin did make some excellent points - especially pointing out how Successful Chelsea were last year under Tuchel even w/ the ridiculous sanctions..... However, Martin is clearly emotional about the money spent..... It's FFP Compliant so he can't criticize that so he is cherry picking things that he believes he can criticize........... Chelsea will be spending even more in the summer.....
The fact of the matter is that many of these Owners do NOT want to spend & so when other clubs like PSG, CIty or Chelsea spend their Muppets in the media immediately attack the team spending but NEVER explain how FFP works

In the last 10 yrs Chelsea sold 700M quid worth of players - more than Double any other Top 6 PL Club & Chelsea's Academy is set up as a secondary Revenue source & works brilliantly as such
And finally, Chelsea are 100% Debt Free since 2003 so NONE of Chelsea's Revenue goes to paying interest on Massive Bank Loans. Other than Man City, all the other Top 6 Clubs owe Hundreds of Millions in Bank Loans & spend huge amounts of club revenue to pay those Interest payments but they NEVER pay off the Principle!!!
So to protect the ownership of these clubs who have cozy relationships w/ Eng Football Media, these so called Journalists splash fugazi headlines to distract fans from this fact
Chelsea were purchased by Abramovich for 140M in 2003 & he Invested 1.1B of his own cash into the club.... & when he sold the club for 4.3B quid 19 yrs later he would have made all that money back & more
ALL businesses need a Constant cash flow to Function - meeting payroll, buying equipment, paying taxes are just a few examples if the push & pull of Every business - money comes in (Revenue) & money goes out (expenses)
There are Only 3 ways for a Business to acquire Liquid Cash Flow: 1. Bank Loans / Bank Line of Credit 2. Private Equity & 3, the Owner is personally rich enough to create a Holding Company / LLC the sole function of which is "Loan" his other businesses Cash - HIS CASH - 100% interest Free & that NEVER has to be paid back

You get many more Eyeballs on your Paper or Website or Channel if you multiply 19 yrs by 52 weeks & then divide that number by the 1.1B Abramovich invested in Chelsea which is 1,100,000,000 divided by 988 weeks which equals just over One Million
So you can Splash the Juicy headline "Chelsea Lost 1M Quid per week under Abramovich!"
But then when Chelsea's new Owners spend 1/2 a Billion Quid in Summer & January (And trust me we are spending at least another 250M in Summer 23') you Viewers, Subscribers, Readers want to know "How can this be FFP compliant! when you told us Chelsea were run like Shite!
So they sure a/f are not going to come clean & be honest so they invent this bull shite that amortization is the sole reason Chelsea can spend like Wild!

Method behind the madness
Yeah exactly. This season is a write off so it will give the new players time to settle in. Then in the summer Boehly is going to sell anyone we don't want (even if it means taking a loss) , and in the summer potter can focus his pre season with the players we want and we won't be focusing on bringing in new signings. All in all the team needed a rebuild and the plan is to use this season to do it, as opposed to multiple years

As a liverpool fan , I would have loved some of those signings at the Reds ...this increases competition for the places , a motivated training session and gives the manager the option to pick the best 25 and remove the rest....

The operative word is ‘SOME’. The amount of signing over both windows for an already bloated squad is too many. They say it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the cart, imagine how man pissed off players their will be at Chelsea, decorated internationals, with no game time. Are they all gonna train with the U21’s?. It’s already affecting their youth team, (which is one of the best in world football) with their best youngsters leaving.

There are many senior players with a year or 2 left on their contract who will leave at the end of the season. Even academy graduates like Gallagher, Loftus-Cheek will command substantial fees in the summer. Chelsea have just done their summer business in the winter window so as to get their main targets.

Martin was completely right here. Simon has a weird thing about Chelsea, to me it almost seems a little bit suspect.
It's very clear that Potter is being set up as a fall guy for Chelsea, a timid manager to keep his mouth shut and do his job while the ownership rearrange to their liking. They were never going to be able to do that with a strong character like Tuchel around.
A similar thing happened with Moyes. Let's be honest, both Fergie and United knew that whoever followed him was going to fail. Moyes was there to be the one to do so. And that's what Potter is for. He will be sacked in a year or so and replaced with a really big name.
Also, Jim is pathetic. At least Simon backs up his bullying by being very opinionated and charismatic, Jim is just like a little weasel that hides behind him and takes potshots at Martin, who would mince him in a fair and even-handed discussion.

recruitment is far different to how it was 20 years ago when simon was an owner. hes right, back then the manager would pick most of the players that he wanted but that is not the case anymore. scouting teams and technical directors do most of the signings now, the manager might let them know what "kind" of player they need. For ex, salah was 3rd choice for klopp when looking through the options they gave him but they still got salah in the end.
Simon still acts like he was an owner of a club only last year. The game of football and especially the model of the brand now is completely different from when he was involved in football. I can almost guarantee Potter had little or no say in these transfers made this window.

It’s one of the reasons he got rid of Tuchel, he wasn’t interested in having anything to do with recruitment or other things, he just wanted to coach. Potter would’ve been involved in the recruitment

There's only one thing I feel like Simon isn't addressing. While it's great to have 2-3 players in each position, when they come in very quickly and all for various large sums of money, they're all going to want to play. On Potter to find the right setup and soothe anyone not playing every game.
There's something you're both addressing as well, many players in the squad will leave in the summer. Chelsea have basically made their summer acquisitions in the winter window. There's no way they'll be anywhere near this level of spending over the next few transfer windows.
