Road Incident On My Way Home From Work

Had an incident on my ride home from work....
The driver (who was totally devastated) stopped along with a few other passing motorists. A mate gave me a lift to the hospital as the ambulances were stacked out at the time. NHS patched me up. Bike and helmet were a write off, as was the shoulder!
Everyone who watches this says the same thing to me: "why didn't you use your brakes?". I think I just froze, the car made as if it was going to stop then sped up once it reached the give way lines and I just didn't react to the sudden acceleration.
This accident was a couple of years ago and they have installed traffic lights at this junction, which is a relief as I know a few other motorists and cyclists who've come a cropper there (just outside Stoneleigh village, near Coventry).
