I love this video! Not because of the fact that the other riders are doing something wrong, but the fact that this guy is stopping at every red light, and still catching up to the guys that ran the red lights. Strong legs and a strong mind! People like you will most likely live longer.
+OscarR0_ when you grow up and realise what traffic in big cities is like you'll understand why bikes not only don't hold traffic up but also get to where they are going quicker.
Human nature. Years ago, kids were taught that such behaviour was wrong, and to admit to one's mistakes was right. Such teaching would nowadays see the parent questioned over child abuse.
I see perhaps 1% of cyclists behaving inappropriately on the roads. Drivers however, that's about 30%. And I say this as someone who drives 20 miles to work every day, many cyclists en route, many junctions, many traffic lights.
If a cyclist should ever come through a red, against my right of way, I might unfortunately be looking the other way as I put my foot down. If he wakes up with that run down feeling he might start to reconsider his own invincibility.
Biggerbadwolf I won’t do as you do but I support you ... I saw a dude hit 2 days ago... car was doing 5mph max... no one around... cyclist was angry the car was slow.... then cut the car off, fell n got ran over in 1/4 second as cyclist cut car off with a inch to spare n there was zero traffic.
Depressing. For non-cyclists though its worth bearing in mind that for every prat going through a red light there are other cyclists waiting thinking exactly the same as you - and that most of these morons aren't very nice to other cyclists either...
For non-cyclists - particularly motorists its worth bearing in mind the thousands killed and seriously injured each year by motorists via accidents and pollution.
+marco mint what is your point? Are you suggesting that we ban cars? You obviously have a big issue with this but to what end? What are you trying to achieve?
Yes, for example I think many of our city and town centres should be pedestrianized. We tolerate the proximity of traffic and people far too much. Look at the deaths and respiratory problems caused by diesel as well.
But surely it doesn't just mean accepting speeding, accepting dangerous driving and accepting pollution - we can do what we can to make things better. By the way, do you believe there's an 'acceptable level of violence' and of pollution on our roads?'
It's not the cyclists people hate, it's the lycra louts and generally irresponsible people on two wheels. I cycle to work in ordinary clothing, and I try my absolute best to share the road and not think I own it. I've encountered idiots on two wheels but.. a surprising number on four of them.
are you stupid not waiting at red lights at crossings is dangerous ,think someone may be running to cross before the lights turn green for you bet you would yell at them for impeding your progress if you go through red road junction lights believe me I wouldnt stop for you ,your look out.
the 'super pedestrian' is my favorite type of cyclist-- they hop on the sidewalk to get around stop signs, and then back on the road with a self-righteous impunity rarely seen in the human species.
Ha. I do that. As I ride aBMX hopping off teh bike is so fast and easy and then I just leg it past lights before hopping back on. Technically not breaking laws coswhen i'm not on the bike... i'm a pedestrian. But it only works on certain lights. Some times its not worth the effort So I queue like everyone else like when turning right or takign a right hand lane onto a roundabout. Still thats th edvantge of bikes over cars. You can hop off and on fast.
'Too fast' is where you are travelling faster than you can safely stop. Most of these cyclists (above) are riding too fast for the road conditions. Not only do they not want to stop; they physically can't. They are riding 'too fast'.
Every day occurrence on my route to work....my personal favourites are the deliveroo riders who go through the lights but stop for traffic just far enough through that they can't see the lights change and then sit there (often looking at their phones) as you pass them when the lights change :)
Trouble with bikes going through red lights is when road drivers see cyclists go through they may assume the light is green. You know like when there are multiple lights for left right straight on etc and the driver is maybe just following traffic and not 100% looking at the lights.
I nearly had that with a car today, though it was simply following another car through that had gone at the end of the orange. This is why I never simply cross the road on a little green man, instead waiting for the traffic to stop.
To be fair tho if a light meant for crossing only not to control traffic flow or junctions is red and no ones at the crossing you should be allowed to go through it after stopping and confirming no one is approaching to cross, come to plenty of lights red where people have pressed to cross and went because they seen a gap and now cars have to wait at a crossing no one is using, it’s a minor annoyance I know but it makes sense, well to me it does anyway.
@@andysedgley in the UK you dont need a licence to ride a Pedelec (motor is only active when your pedaling) that is less than 250w of power and only gives you a 15mph assist these are allowed in cycle lanes. Anything higher wattage or throttle activated you may need a motorcycle license to ride legally these shouldnt be in cycle lanes.
+Swedish Finn it's not the power meter, it's the overlay software. At the lights there is no signal from the power meter so the software interpolates from 0, when I stop, to whatever the first value is when I start.
The guy recording is literally me every time I cycle, respecting the lights and keeping up with traffic and not unnecessarily filtering through traffic. Good going man :)
What the heck is wrong with bikers in London? I've biked my whole life and haven't seen _a single_ red light offense as bad as these all my life. (from Germany - lots of bikes, but we only jump red lights in the middle of the night and even then, we're cautious and look for traffic first -.-)
You bring up a decent point - the only time to J a RL is when there is, literally, no one else around. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?
I always cycle responsibly hand signals, stop at red lights etc and it's really disappointing when some cyclists behave irresponsibly and make us all look bad.
Thank you for being a responsible cyclist and calling out the bad apples. It’s about respect and common decency and above all, safety. All forms of transportation included.
Being a cyclist myself I can totally see why motorists get frustrated at cyclists. Its horrible being tarred with the same brush. Same as motorists though who also get tarred the same way.
I ride bike since I was kid. I go to school by bike. Now I work by bike. It is sad to know, people hate cyclist because some of us can't follow the rule.
Even when I'm cycling at 2am to go to the gym, I stop at red lights; you never know, there might be a copper walking down the street that you didn't see.
You can always tell a decent cyclist in London by how fast they get up to speed. It's a sign of someone who is used to stopping a lot, and this man is rapid off the line! Also, very safe and an example for all, nice one.
I really do love it when most of those who brake the law, running red lights mostly, are the ones in lycra and reflective clothing. These are the ones that give others a bad name. And what's with it that they are in such a rush, and I don't hang about, it doesn't look like all of them must be late for work. Yes, I can well believe it if you are late for the pub...
They are rushing to get their soy late and then proceed to sit in a cafe all at with their friends licking their butt holes. I'm a delivery driver and always see city ppl just chilling in cafes all day. Even at 10am on a Tuesday. They all sit together on Costa coffee laughing and joking while I'm bustin my ass trying to make a living. I can't help but ask why are these ppl not working!?
Now I understand how the 56yr old lady got run down by a hit and run cyclist in London. No respect for the Highway Code or anybody else except for themselves
I like running out in front of them and causing them to crash. It's great, especially as I'm big enough to kick the living daylights out any of them that want to start a row. Oh and I'm a cyclist too, and a driver.
What a badass. You're like a real Clint Eastwood character. A true hero. Must get different pussy every day for those fantastic feats of bravery. I'm so amazed by you.
Anyone with any intelligence can see that bicycles and motor vehicles are completely incompatible with each other under the existing roads infrastructure. Why anyone would want to cycle in a major City is quite beyond me. ... the risk is just too great.
It's usually the most quickest, easiest, and healthiest way of commuting. I have drove and cycled and in London, and driving in London is a nightmare. Major stressful with the amount of traffic and can take up to 30 mins to even do a mile sometimes. But when you cycle you just breeze past all the traffic and it's so much easier and stress free. However, I do agree that danger comes into it, but that's just with anything in life.
Why anyone would want to drive in a packed city full of traffic is beyond me... Stuck in a metal box depreciating thousands per year, road tax, fuel, gaining weight, losing health and fitness, struggling with parking, bus lane fines, etc., why bother?
Driving through London the other day and i nearly had a young lady go through my window because she ran a red light at serious speed. Luckily I was only going at Max 12mph as I was about to turn But I was my friend and we were just looking at each other thinking if I had been going any faster or the speed limit I would have hit her and seriously injured or worse. Please stop at red lights!
Cyclists are the feminists of transport, "treat me as an equal to a vehicle, but no I don't want to follow any of the laws/rules of the other vehicles, I just want what benefits me and my narcissism".
I started cycling to work because I hated the stress of driving, then I realized how stressful it was to cycle due to idiots who ride like it is Mad Max in the Thunderdome.
Some speed...the other thing which annoys me about this is that after they come past you at the lights, you've to overtake them again - so you've to move out into a more dangerous part of the road time and time again...
Another problem this redlighting causes is that it makes pedestrian crossings unsafe to use. That in turn leads to jaywalking. The jaywalker (rightly or wrongly) feeling that it's safer to cross where there is a good long view of the road than at the lights.
This is not fair on pedestrians. I hope that the police clamp down on this. I know traffic lights can be frustrating but these guys are breaking the law and should be prosecuted in fined. I’m like you, I stop at every red light.
I'm in agreement with your video, but those flashing lights you have should be banned. They are one of the most distracting things on the road - from a fellow cyclist, pedestrian and car driver.
In my opinion, jumping lights is a bad idea whether you're in a car, on a motorcycle, on a bicycle, or walking. I understand why people do it, but I feel it's best to obey the law rather than risk it. Running lights really only saves a few seconds, but can be a serious risk to your life. It's not worth it.
"What the fuck's it got to do with you" is what he said. But when he gets smashed by a car it'll suddenly all be about what it's got to do with that car. The core of the problem most of these people take no personal responsibility. Because who is to hold them to account?
I remember once riding down Gower street, and a delivery "cyclist" ran 3 red lights, only stopping at the 4th as the traffic was heavy; I confronted him at this point and told him that his actions affect others and that he is being selfish, and the reaction I got back was extreme rudeness. Pretending to be gangsta, he nearly started a fight with me in the middle of the road. The sheer level of ignorance and rudeness of many never fails to amaze me.. We unfortunately we have to think from the perspective that the majority are incapable and incompetent to conduct themselves according to any rule or at least agreement... On the bright side, exemplar riding sir :)
I'm rural Texas I just noticed how nice your streets are and bike lane, also clean, we have sinkhole potholes, you would need a 29in downhill bike, and never see a bike lane here.
A couple of days ago a blind and stupid driver pulled out of a turning right as I was going past. I was riding slowly, it was broad daylight and I had my bright flashing front lamp on. They just managed to stop, about ten inches away from hitting me, maybe even driving over me. Of course the driver and passenger shouted and swore at me that it was my fault! This kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME.
Making cyclists register and have plates would be impossible to implement and be too costly to bother with. And if we're talking about insurance, it would save more lives and be more useful to simply go after the uninsured motorists first.
As an everyday cycle commuter, and irregular racer, and member of a local cycling group, I do have insurance. Know how much it costs? $50, per year. That's how much of a risk I present. That covers me for the 8000+km I do each year in my commuting, social rides and training for racing. That covers all damage done to me as well as damage I do to others (which so far is nothing, only to myself).
Matthew Jenkinson Oh my gosh!! $50 per year is so much. Not as much as car insurance, or as much as taxes, or as much as the granola that I munch in a month. Definitely more than the $5,000 bike that I bought.
I despair of red light jumpers. They are just anarchists and should be prosecuted. It's actually a worrying reflection on how people disregard laws. As for cycling in London! You can stick it. Thank god I live in a civilised part of UK.
I used to drive coaches in and out of London on the commuter runs and the worse thing they did to me was undertake me while I stopped at traffic lights by bumping up onto the pavement. Then I would struggle to get past them because no car driver wanted me to pull into the outside lane, then once past I would pull up at the next set of lights and they'd do it all over again! So infuriating, they had no respect for other road users, no respect for pedestrians, no respect for the traffic laws and so it seems, no respect for their own well being!! I hasten to add, this wasn't the same with all cyclists but unfortunately everyone is being labelled the same because of this minority!!
In my village yes it's really called a village I see cyclists blow red lights all the time one almost got hit running a red light and got mad at the car who had the right of way
'F...off' to a very reasonable question of why can't you wait. Don't let these arseholes spoil your day. One day they may get their comeuppance. I have been a cyclist for over almost 50 years and it's never been worse than this. Behaviour and respect from increasing more people(not just cyclists) is diminishing I am afraid. Maybe it is the commute becoming more and more stressful. I am just pleased I don't have to do it anymore. Stay safe.
Your video highlights what I witness most days. They seem to think that the rules of the road don't apply to them as they have no road tax or insurance to pay. It's great to see that you're a cyclist yourself who's bringing this to light. You've changed my opinion on "all" cyclists being the same, although I still believe that you are in the minority. Great work!
Road tax was abolished several decades ago. And the tax you drivers pay doesn't fund roads. It's an income stream that can be spent on emergency services, public transport, rubbish collection etc. Indeed they can spend it on roads if they want to, but it's not for that specific purpose. And insurance? Come on.. This day and age we're trying to get people out of their cars and onto their bikes, not the other way round. Plus a bicycle is powered by the person riding it and not a large engine. Why should they be obliged to pay for insurance? By the way, I don't consider myself a "cyclist". If you're gonna respond then don't go thinking I'm one of them.
@@ben.taylor I've seen cyclists pedalling like crazy whilst looking directly downwards. When they smash into stationary traffic, they leave nasty dents. The motorist has to foot the bill as we don't even have a registration plate to write down. They should have insurance and something to identify who they are.
@@PMiddy001 It's difficult for a person on a bike to look up while riding. Ever heard of this thing called wind resistance? Sure, they should still pay attention. But you can't constantly look ahead of you. Well, unless you've got goggles or something. Cyclists are no more than pedestrians on wheels. If a pedestrian keys your car and runs off you don't have a plate you can remember. But who cares?
@@ben.taylor I spent 2 months off work after a cyclist hit me on a zebra crossing and broke my ankle .... plenty of reasons for cyclist to have insurance to cover accidents and injury they cause others!
@@Evilroco Have you not read a single word I've written *Bicycles are not cars.* A broken ankle and two months off of work sucks, though I think it's better than being maimed by a two-tonne death machine travelling at 50km/h. This is why cars are required to have insurance and much stricter rules; they endanger people SIGNIFICANTLY more than other forms of travel. Imagine the damage that'd be caused if that cyclist was in a car instead. You can't, as you wouldn't be alive to tell the story.
The worst part about cyclists in the US, is that they can legally take a full lane, and when they are slow. So you pass over a double yellow because all US back roads are double yellow for some stupid reason, and then they flip the bird, and ride erratically.
I wash my windshield after I get around them and give em a nice Windex bath. I always ride as far over as i can on those roads... if there's not enough room, I'll just pull off and let the cars pass. I've been the driver stuck behind these assholes taking the whole lane far too many times! You don't wanna move over? You're gonna get showered!
a perfectly lit town street I will tell ya those back flash lights are so annoying they dazzle and piss others off , the same with the front . It bad . message from biker
There will surely come a time when cyclists are required to have insurance and have some form of visible identification so that they can be held accountable for their actions.
K how is not wanting to get hit by car being dame slow. You run a red light you take a chance of.gettimg hit by car. Oh the only ones that bitch about cyclist runinin the lights are slow cyclist. Um you get hit you go to hospital or morgue. Yeah i rather be alive slow cyclist than a fast dead cyclist. But then again why do you have to act like your always in a race. How about I don't know enjoy the dame ride. I mean sometimes just take things slow just to enjoy. But know you got to be in a race at all times. Makes no dame sence
John Strickland a slow cyclist or less fit one can generally not afford the time to stop and lose momentum is what the op is implying I believe. Cyclists like this annoy the life out of me, the lights apply to all traffic, they wouldn't run a red in a car.
I'm not that bothered when they go through red lights when I'm driving, it's when they don't bother to let anyone know that they're turning. They don't give any signal and suddenly pull out in front of you, it's especially dangerous on roundabouts.
The flashing lights should be banned. Cars don't have them motorcycles don't have them. Why should you guys? Have you ever seen one of those coming towards you on a 2 lane road that's not in the city? Your eyes don't have time to adjust and you are literally blind until you pass them.
+just to say this cars have bigger brighter more powerful lights so don't need flashing lights. The most important thing to prevent blinding other road users is where the light is pointed. Both of mine point down at the road.
bigblokeonabike my lights aren't as bright as the xenon lights or the new LED's on newer cars. So shouldn't I be allowed flashing lights by your rationale? Mopeds aren't as big nor bright as cars they aren't allowed strobing lights. I agree they should be pointed down but if they are headlamps then cyclists should be required to look down at all times. On city streets not a big deal but out side the city they are dangerous and unnecessary.
+just to say this moped lights would tend to be bigger and more noticeable than bicycle lights - simply because they don't need to be super light and have small rechargeable batteries as cycle lights do. Still, an argument could be made for mopeds to have flashing lights. I would agree that flashing lights on country roads don't make much sense. Flashing is "to be seen". Steady lights are "to see". Because of this I switch to steady lights when navigating narrow dark parts of my route. I have a helmet mounted light during the winter. When around other people I am careful not to shine it in their face or directly at motorists.
Cars have bright lights ever ride at night an a bright beam is coming at you u wave but they won't turn them. Down thats why I get my bagged out bike lit up
the simple way to solve this problem is to have every bike fitted with a number plate just like cars and motorbikes, the second there is accountability and the risk of a fine it will stop.
+bluestuable why do you think that I want to flout the rules? What evidence are you basing that on? I mean you're not just guessing or making stuff up are you? That would make you an idiot!!!
I have a video of a group of cyclists running a stop sign and all these cars trying to go and stopping traffic.. they were lucky it wasn't a local druggie in one of those cars or they'd be toast. As a cyclist myself- I make an effort to follow the road rules, be sensible and courteous to make good relations and hopefully undo so many bad experiences drivers get. Unfortunately, people who lose their drivers licenses often turn to bikes and ride on the wrong side of the street, run lights as well, ride on sidewalks and sometimes in the middle of the road and add to the aggravation- people lump all cyclists in the same bucket. When sport cyclists do it- it just affirms cyclists are all self entitled. One time at a stop light, as we waited... the light turned green.. and as we started a cyclist decided to run the red light and flipped everyone off forced to brake to avoid hitting him.. He's lucky someone didn't have an "accident" Just bad PR and makes it hard on all the cyclists. Since most of the cyclists are probably also drivers... my bet is they are also the
I see this daily.. Cyclist thinking they have another law for themselves,. I own a mountain bike, I use the road regularly but I always consider other road users, drivers and my own safety.. 👊🏻
i respect that i live in hull and most of the cyclist are assholes like the bikes that delivery food they go up 1 way street and my dad almost hit one from going the wrong way and they give shit to you when there in the wrong and it really puts a bad name on cyclist and its not fair for good cyclists like you that are careful and been safe
The minority? Are you insane. I counted 15 Road Traffic violations in that video, 5 in the first 30 seconds alone! The last 2 cyclists went through double reds! The number of cyclists passing through reds was more than those that stopped. Saying that only the minority do it is a well worn excuse rarely backed up by evidence. In my experience ALL cyclists will do it at some point, most (probably?) will do it on multiple occasions, and a lesser (but significant) number will always do it. Sorry but 15 Traffic violations in just 4m is almost beyond belief. To put it in context, if this happens everywhere (which it does) then cyclists comitting Road Traffic offences are by far and wide the most significant cause of offences on the road, by a factor of 50 at least. I dont think you understand the scale of the issue youve posted on video
+Mark Mywords I don't think you understand how videos work. This video does not actually show all cycling for all time in London. The cycling in this video is not representative of all cycling. This shows BAD cycling which is why I have uploaded it. Most of the time only a minority of cyclists jump red lights. It is rare to see cycling this bad on my route.
Bit late to the party, but to add on, it's like having a video of getting 3 consecutive royal flushes in poker; It's just not representative to how it really is.
The level of harm caused and potential to be caused is far higher for a 2 tonne hunk of metal travelling at 20mph+ compared to 100kg of mass flying at the same speed, that's why we take motor vehicle violations as far more serious. Also take into account that a motorist has an easier life when it comes to start stopping, they just have to push a pedal whereas a cyclist actually has to put down effort. And as humans being lazy, naturally you're going to get the lazy guys disobeying the rules, I imagine it would be no different if you put all motorists on bikes.
I have to admit I shout at a lot of cyclists, firstly at the ones riding 2 feet away from the cycle path slowing traffic down then I shout at cyclists riding with no lights then I shout at cyclists with very bright front flashing lights blinding all on coming traffic the list goes on and on sometimes I shout at the police who on so many occasions have totally ignored cyclists doing wrong I don't hate cyclists but I am sure that's coming at a later date
if you're in a desert, with no cars around for miles, and you hit a stop sign. are you going to stop? in some cases, it makes no logical sense to stop. other cases, yes, they should stop.
+It's a beautiful thing to follow Jesus. Pretty sure Jesus would want you to stop. In this video there is no desert. There are cars, pedestrians and other cyclists.
I really dislike some cyclists, I am one myself. I hate saying that but seeing this footage just reinforces my views on it. It's really depressing to see fellow cyclists running red lights in such large numbers, I'd love to speak to them and ask them why they feel that's acceptable or reasonable.
Yep, same in Essex. Riding 2-4 abreast down country lanes, refusing to allow traffic to pass when safe, riding near the centre of the road in built up areas, literally forcing cars to pull over at times when heading in the opposite direction, stopping in the road to cheack their phones, list goes on. The drivers and pedestrians are just as bad. A severe case of over-entitlement and self-rightiousness in this country.
@@merlingstoss6332 Guaranteed you two simply don't understand what teh cyclist is doign and are just angry cos your entitled car drivers who can't go fast and are being forced to consider other road users. Go look up taking the lane and teh rules around cyclign abreast. Bette ryet, get ona bike an ddo some road cycling before you comment like you know...
bigblokeonabike on a country lane, slower moving vehicles are expected to allow faster traffic to pass when safely possible. Horses do it, some agricultural vehicles, most road users Except 95% cyclists. It's common courtesy and part of the highway code. When coming round a blind corner, on a 60mph stretch of road, it's only cyclist I tend to find wandering across the centreline into oncoming traffic, then swear at the drivers obeying the rules of the road. Want to talk abut entitled? Take it easy mate. Not here for a row. Can only go on experience. And my experience is that about 75% of all road users do not have a fucking clue, are distracted, or using the road in a dangerous manner due to some weird sense of superiority, and when they fuck up, they blame everyone else. Not a pop at you, I don't know you amd wouldn't want to make assumptions based on a UA-cam comment.
+chew1047 cyclists benefit everyone, on and off a bike. Number plates or any form of registration for cyclists presents a barrier to entry for cyclists and reduces the number of cyclists on the road. This means that there is more congestion, more pollution, more health issues so that EVERYONE looses out. Not really worth it is it for a tiny advantage.
+bigblokeonabike Having just viewed your video why would you want to promote cycling? The enforcement of registering your pushbike would also stop children and banned dangerous/drink drivers from taking to the roads on a pushbike.and as for being good for the environment, don't make me laugh, I get stuck behind a pushbike at least once a day on my way too and from work, (see my video)
+chew1047 are you saying that cycling isn't good for the environment? TBH, I don't really care if you cycle or not. I cycle to lose weight and because it's the quickest way across the city. If you want to spend your life getting fat in a metal box that's up to you. I do expect to not have other people in their metal boxes risk my life when I do it though.
bigblokeonabike If you choose to ride your pushbike in a "metal box " environment that's entirely up to you, but moan about it, either put up or shut up, and yes I don't think pushbikes are completely good for the environment, and I don't ride a pushbike or drive a car and I'm not over weight,
The metal box environment is a shared space for all road users. If drivers of metal boxes drive in a manner that risks my life there is no way that I am going to keep quite about it. Nothing is completely good for the environment. Breathing isn't completely good for the environment. Do you acknowledge that cycling has less impact on the environment that sitting in a metal box in traffic with the engine on?
I cycle and when I think its safe I go though red lights, I make my own risk assessments. I also walk and don't always use pedestrian crossings, I look both ways and then if its clear I cross the road like most people. I did stop at every light just to see if would add major time to my 10 mile commute though London every day, on the way in at 05:30 about 6 min going home after 6pm more like 15 min doing that every day that would be 1.5h waiting at lights every week that's 72h each year!! call me what ever you want I'll just say Fuck You and move on.
You are no more entitled to make risk assessments than the driver of an articulated lorry. Not only are you breaking the law, you are also putting others in jeopardy; if they have to take evasive action because of your self-centred idiocy, they may hit something or someone else. Frankly, although I don't want anyone to get hurt, I'd rather it was people like Ludus DayTrading, than others suffering from his self-appointed risk-management scheme.
So based on that its also ok for motor vehicles to ignore red lights as well. The rules of the road as laid down in the highway code are meant to be followed, not risk assessed then a decision based on circumstance made. You sir are an idiot.
Entitled brat. Just like you say 'I'll go through if I THINK it's safe'. Just because you think doesn't mean it's that way in reality. Your whole attitude of 'ill scream fuck you if someone says anything' pretty much sums up how bad of a driver you are.
The thing is the more contact time with motor traffic for a cyclist = greater chance of death or injury. So RLJ can reduce that contact time and reduce possible death or injury. Of course, consideration for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users should be a top priority. If a cyclist runs a red light and they make sure no one is affected adversely what is the issue here? Please concern yourself with the carnage caused daily by motor traffic - the lives ended, the families heartbroken, the tears shed, the pollution produced and not with a few, harmless RLJ cyclists.
+marco mint are you joking? I seriously can't tell. How many cyclists have been killed whilst waiting at a red light? I would bet basically none. Taking your suggestion further, to reduce contact time why not cycle everywhere as fast as you can with your eyes closed and not stopping for anything? That would mean the smallest possible contact time...
But waiting at a RL means that you are always cycling with traffic. Some RL jumping - all precautions taken when doing it - does give you a head start on the traffic and your overall contact time with traffic is reduced. Your overall journey time is reduced and your time as a very vulnerable road user is reduced. For the UK:"In reported road traffic accidents for the year ending March 2016:there were 1,780 road deaths, unchanged from the year ending March 2015.24,610 people were killed or seriously injured.there were 187,050 casualties of all severities"How many did cyclists kill or injure in this period - I would imagine a tiny amount - concentrate your energies on the killers here and don't fall for the anti-cyclist propaganda BS.
+marco mint leaving a stop line a bit sooner than the rest of the traffic is a very different think than what the cyclists in this video are doing. Saying jumping a red light is safer because you're on the road for less time is the argument of a raving lunatic.
For example, what damage to anyone did the cyclists going through the RL at about 1.45 on your video do? They neither inconvenienced nor threatened anyone.
+marco mint They made themselves and therefore all other cyclists look like arseholes. Also there could quite easily be pedestrians crossing there that the cyclists did not see until the last second and at those sorts of speeds there would be no way of slowing down.
So many questions: Is "left-on-red" legal in UK? In the US, "right-on-red" is usually legal, but must be treated as a stop sign, to yield to the traffic that has the green. Observation: What an immaculate surface!
What annoys me is, in order for me to ride a motorcycle I need insurance, so if I caused damage to another vehicle it would be covered. If a cyclist knocked me off my motorcycle who would be liable to pay?
i'm a cyclist to but never run a red light, if the road is narrow with traffic coming from both way i'll pull over to let the cars/vans/lorries get by, after all i'm not in a rush and stoppinga few minutes doesnt hurt.
In my jurisdiction: TCA 55-8-110 Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the rider of a bicycle approaching an intersection that is controlled by a traffic-control signal utilizing a *vehicle detection device* that is inoperative due to the size of the bicycle shall come to a full and complete stop at the intersection and, after exercising due care as provided by law, may proceed with due caution when it is safe to do so. It is not a defense to a violation of [running a red light / -109] that the rider of a bicycle proceeded under the belief that a traffic-control signal utilized a vehicle detection device when the signal did not utilize a vehicle detection device or was inoperative-- due to the size of the bicycle-- that was not in fact inoperative-- due to the size of the bicycle. Example: 1st Ave S at Woodland, Nashville TN uses a sensor that isn't sensitive enough to detect my bicycle (mostly aluminum). I'm content to wait for a car to come behind me, and trip the sensor.9 times out of 10 one does. If they don't, I'll go, but reluctantly. Most people don't read statutes.
Most excellent video. I am a cyclist too and it drives me bonkers seeing this almost everywhere I go. Also curious, how do you get the HUD for the recording? I am looking at getting a gopro, I already have vector 3 power pedals, and a couple of chest straps. Is this something the camera does? Or your cycling computer? I use a Fenix 5X watch for my cycling computer, but I get the same ride output file as a Garmin Edge I think? Super curious!!! I want the HUD on my video recordings!!!! Also, hahahaha at the guy who was like, "this guy is riding an e-bike".
that is from my Garmin Virb Camera. I don't think they do them anymore. A real shame as they were great for doing overlays like this. Really super easy. You can do similar with Go PRo but it is MUCH more of a pain and I don't know how / what software you will need.
In just over 4 minutes how many rules have these cyclists broken? If a car goes through a red light it's a fine and demerit points off your license.I have no problem with cyclists on the road as long as they obey the road rules ,in which a lot do not. Thanks for this clip and being an impartial observer and not believing that as a cyclists yourself that other cyclists can do no wrong.
Cycles should be registered, display a registration number and all should be insured, I am a cyclist and get so annoyed with moron riders giving law abiding cyclist's a bad name
I have watched a couple of these videos, both from motorist and cyclist perspective. My conclusion: Traffic in England, especially in London, is so dense that it makes people aggressive. Driving style is aggressive, and communication style is also more aggressive than in Germany. I cycle a lot here in Berlin, but on the average, everybody is much more relaxed. There are of course idiots, whether they drive a car or ride a bicycle (or walk, for matter...) does not really make a difference. But as I said before: The level of agression is much lower. What do you think of this analysis?
+Achim I think that you can't judge what something is like based on videos that are uploaded as they are extraordinary - as in they are not ordinary. I uploaded this video as the cycling I saw way quite a bit worse that normal. A minority of cyclists jumping red lights is normal. Jumping lights at this speed and with this little regard for others is not normal.
With regards to red lights at pedestrian crossings, I have no problem with cyclists going through if the crossing is clear and they are doing so slowly and cautiously, unfortunately far too many don't give a toss whether it's clear and don't slow down or show any caution at all, they with just speed though whilst people are crossing expecting everyone to get out of their way
luvstellauk but by encouraging them to not stop they will start seeing pedestrians as simple obstacles instead of the only people who should be crossing there
Is it any wonder why a lot of motorists hate cyclists? I'm a cyclist, and as an ethical cyclist, it really bugs me when I see cyclists riding through red lights. Cyclists who ride like this give cyclists a bad name.
I love this video! Not because of the fact that the other riders are doing something wrong, but the fact that this guy is stopping at every red light, and still catching up to the guys that ran the red lights. Strong legs and a strong mind! People like you will most likely live longer.
Amen to that!
+Florian Oprescu my bike is not electric.
+Florian Oprescu that is the power I am applying to the pedals. Power is calculated by torque * rpm.
Basically what I did last year when i was in London, i found it funny that they're in such a "rush" yet I catch up and pass most of them
He’ll still be an arsehole…
i feel your pain, good on you for being a responsible rider.
They run the red light then blame the other person when they get hit.
Boodieman72 they'll say the had the right of way
How do you get right of way if you run a red light?
Seems like it would be crazy not to have at least 1 dash cam at all times in that city.
Boodieman72 You don't. But that's what they'll cluelessly claim
Brad Williams *nope.* gtfoh with that #metoo bs.
The cyclists recording is restoring my faith. No one could have a problem if other cyclists were like him.
He's changed my opinion but he's still in the minority from how many red light runners I witness!
Mr Sam 10000000% I agree.
Mr Sam wrong, his slow ass still makes every car behind him get late for work these people need to be put in jail

When people are in the wrong and they are called out they always seem to be angry and not able to admit they’ve done wrong.
Human nature. Years ago, kids were taught that such behaviour was wrong, and to admit to one's mistakes was right.
Such teaching would nowadays see the parent questioned over child abuse.
Car drivers are worse than cyclists in this regard. Maybe because they feel secure in their armoured vehicles.
Oldbatwit Didn’t see a single car run a red light in that video, did you?
+hobanagerik well, if it's not in this video it obviously NEVER happens...
We live in a "no blame" society. Everything is someone else's fault.
how dafuq they want to be respected if they cant respect a fucking red light. that gives ciclists a bad name
I am a cyclist myself. We have a much better reputation around here where i live. but is way hard to find cyclist doing this type of bullshit.
I see perhaps 1% of cyclists behaving inappropriately on the roads. Drivers however, that's about 30%.
And I say this as someone who drives 20 miles to work every day, many cyclists en route, many junctions, many traffic lights.
So you drive about once a year then. Your self-proclaimed analysis is woefully disproportionate.
I have nothing but utter contempt for cyclists! They literally could not give a flying fuck about traffic law!
Martin Evans Every single cyclist? Literally?
+marco mint This was not the city centre. We will always have to share the roads with cars. Get used to it.
But surely it doesn't just mean accepting speeding, accepting dangerous driving and accepting pollution - we can do what we can to make things better. By the way, do you believe there's an 'acceptable level of violence' and of pollution on our roads?'
This is one of the many reasons people hate cyclists. Both pedestrians and car's. Be responsible people, no matter what you ride on the road.
It's not the cyclists people hate, it's the lycra louts and generally irresponsible people on two wheels.
I cycle to work in ordinary clothing, and I try my absolute best to share the road and not think I own it. I've encountered idiots on two wheels but.. a surprising number on four of them.
This was so frustrating to watch. Good on you, man.
gives all cyclists a bad name unfortunately !
are you stupid not waiting at red lights at crossings is dangerous ,think someone may be running to cross before the lights turn green for you bet you would yell at them for impeding your progress if you go through red road junction lights believe me I wouldnt stop for you ,your look out.
Does it fuck ..Your being Precious
the 'super pedestrian' is my favorite type of cyclist-- they hop on the sidewalk to get around stop signs, and then back on the road with a self-righteous impunity rarely seen in the human species.
Ha.
I'm so impressed by the speeds you get up to
Yep, compared to his early videos he is now really quick.
There's nothing clever about riding too fast.
+bingola45 what exactly is "too fast"??
'Too fast' is where you are travelling faster than you can safely stop.
Most of these cyclists (above) are riding too fast for the road conditions. Not only do they not want to stop; they physically can't.
They are riding 'too fast'.
+bingola45 yes, I agree the other cyclists were going too fast and if anyone else had been crossing the road they would have most likely been hit.
+experiment54, true, but that wasn't the situation in any of the cases in the video...
Happened to me but there were no lights just a traffic enforcer so i thought it was our turn already 😂😂😂
Why does everyone assume that the traffic lights are for cyclists.
Who the hell is this cyclist - monster wattage and big MPH!!
One wonders how much electrical power one is allowed to have on a bicycle, before it's not allowed in a cycle lane?
@@andysedgley in the UK you dont need a licence to ride a Pedelec (motor is only active when your pedaling) that is less than 250w of power and only gives you a 15mph assist these are allowed in cycle lanes. Anything higher wattage or throttle activated you may need a motorcycle license to ride legally these shouldnt be in cycle lanes.
+Graham Jones this is not an electric bike. The wattage is from my power meter.
3:00 He's producing 400W standing still lol. Very impressive. That power meter doesn't seem very reliable.
I don't think he is, you know.
Unless you're someone from 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'.

It is sad to know, people hate cyclist because some of us can't follow the rule.
Lorry driver here. I see so many cyclists riding around in the dark WITHOUT lights. It is frightening the numbers of clowns risking their lives.
They need some sort of small plate so they can be fined for running red lights.

@@GG-ml3vr They keep saying bikes aren't dangerous to pedestrians like a car.
This is painful to watch. In Germany, where I live, reckless riders are very uncommon in cities.
Some speed...the other thing which annoys me about this is that after they come past you at the lights, you've to overtake them again - so you've to move out into a more dangerous part of the road time and time again...
I find flashing lights VERY distracting...
As a professional driver, I really respect and thank responsible cyclists 👍👍
+andy scott 👍👍
So many! I can't believe how many actually did that.
No id plate on bike = anonymity.

I thought he got tasered at 0:42 lol :)
Why are all the cyclists lights flashing? Surely you should have a fixed white light and red taillight like all the other traffic...
We have flashing lights because you car drivers are blind to fixed lights. Ride a bike for a few weeks and you will think differently.
Complete bellends.
“Bellends” LOL! American here, had to Google it! Same as dickheads. Perfect!
And this is one reason why I think cyclist should have plates
And I like how you always catch them
And another reason they should have insurance for when they hit something or someone.
This kind of behaviour is exactly what gets all cyclists tarnished with the same brush
In my village yes it's really called a village I see cyclists blow red lights all the time one almost got hit running a red light and got mad at the car who had the right of way
@Nigel Buckham ??
London. Giving us proper cyclists a bad name since 2012.

*Bicycles are not cars.* A broken ankle and two months off of work sucks, though I think it's better than being maimed by a two-tonne death machine travelling at 50km/h.
The only cyclists who feel the need to disobey red lights are slow cyclists.
And your point is? What is wrong with slow cyclists? I used to be faster when I was younger and had a racer - now, not so much.
Slow cyclists are the sensible ones. I always wonder why most of the British cyclists ride as if they want to win a race. Says a Dutchman.

When cycling, I had a guy bomb it past me on a red light at a 4-way junction and pop a wheelie in front of me to show off.
i would hate cycling there with all those cyclists buzzing about
The flashing lights should be banned.
I tend to use flashing in the city, but static in rural unlit roads, usually one static and one flashing on the rear
+bluestuable errr.... No...
Motorists drive like aresholes as well. Number plates don't fix anything.
errr... yeah... cyclist just want to flout rules of the road without any come back, thats why you hate the idea of number plates.
+bluestuable why do you think that I want to flout the rules? What evidence are you basing that on?
I mean you're not just guessing or making stuff up are you? That would make you an idiot!!!
fuck off will ya, give me peace.
+bluestuable oh I see, you are an idiot.
You are the one who started this dialogue by the way.
It is rare to see cycling this bad on my route.
c ra Sounds like one of those alt-facts I keep hearing about these days.
Bit late to the party, but to add on, it's like having a video of getting 3 consecutive royal flushes in poker; It's just not representative to how it really is.
AND STOP SHAVING YOUR LEGS YOU QUEENS!!!
Have you considered some professional help?
I thought I was the only one who doesn't like the ultra bright strobe lights on the front of many bikes.
I've no doubt these red light jumpers will get their comeuppance eventually, probably under the wheels of a mechanically propelled vehicle.
BedsitBob preferably a big fucker with 18 wheels.
if you're in a desert, with no cars around for miles, and you hit a stop sign. are you going to stop?
in some cases, it makes no logical sense to stop. other cases, yes, they should stop.
+It's a beautiful thing to follow Jesus. Pretty sure Jesus would want you to stop.
In this video there is no desert. There are cars, pedestrians and other cyclists.
Busses and trams have green lights just for them if you run a red you can meet them.
I really dislike some cyclists, I am one myself. I hate saying that but seeing this footage just reinforces my views on it. It's really depressing to see fellow cyclists running red lights in such large numbers, I'd love to speak to them and ask them why they feel that's acceptable or reasonable.
Looks like you are a good and safe rider. Stay safe and ride on.
Absolute wankers same up here cycling in the middle of the road delibertley going slow so they can show their helmet cams
Been road cycling for 30 years mate.
It needs to work for everyone.
+Merling Stoss in that case you'll understand why cycling 2 abreast is beneficial to all road users... Either that or you're talking shite...
bigblokeonabike on a country lane, slower moving vehicles are expected to allow faster traffic to pass when safely possible. Horses do it, some agricultural vehicles, most road users
Except 95% cyclists.
Compulsory number plates for all road users, simple.
As a person from Germany, my question is "Why does the city organise a bicycle race at what seems rush hour"?
This is why bicycles should have registration plates and pay road tax.
So they can get nicked, like every other road user, when the break the law.
too many cyclists and bikes, worst city
You should be considered likely at fault in any accident with such a history of law breaking. Same as if someone had a lot of tickets.
Entitled brat. Just like you say 'I'll go through if I THINK it's safe'. Just because you think doesn't mean it's that way in reality. Your whole attitude of 'ill scream fuck you if someone says anything' pretty much sums up how bad of a driver you are.
You knobhead
The cyclists running the lights must have forgotten their flags that indicate to other road users they’re important.
Good one m8 !!! 🤣👍very true.
What annoys me is, in order for me to ride a motorcycle I need insurance, so if I caused damage to another vehicle it would be covered. If a cyclist knocked me off my motorcycle who would be liable to pay?
Speaking as an ex cyclist , this annoys me. No wonder so many drivers get a bad attitude towards bike users.
i'm a cyclist to but never run a red light, if the road is narrow with traffic coming from both way i'll pull over to let the cars/vans/lorries get by, after all i'm not in a rush and stoppinga few minutes doesnt hurt.
Better toe be a bit later than DEAD on time.
In my jurisdiction:
TCA 55-8-110
Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the rider of a bicycle approaching an intersection that is controlled by a traffic-control signal utilizing a *vehicle detection device* that is inoperative due to the size of the bicycle shall come to a full and complete stop at the intersection and, after exercising due care as provided by law, may proceed with due caution when it is safe to do so.
