The further away the goalkeeper is from the goal the more area he effectively covers. That's why it mathematically makes sense to step forward when the enemy is far away.

I looked up and couldn't see the ball. Then I saw it hit the back of the net. In the midst of cheering I turned to my mate and said "who TF scored that?!?" and he screamed back "HOWARD!". I always find it funny watching it back and listening to the commentary when the commentator says "everybody in the ground could see what was going to happen" and I'm always thinking "yeah.... everybody but me" 😂😂😂

You shouldn't be able to score a goal in your own goal from a corner kick if it goes in directly. If nobody touches it and it goes in, it is a corner kick for the opposing team.

@@dippegalant I think probably the rules were different. I was a referee about 20 years ago and this rule was there then. You cannot score an own goal from a goal kick, a corner kick, an indirect free kick or a direct free kick.

the distance isn't measured from the goal line, its measured from the goal itself, and the closer you are to the sidelines the further away you are from goal. basic geometry
