    Great episode Aaron. This one especially was helpful as it tells me there can be some legitimate spear fishing in shallow water for folks who cannot free dive like you. I know you charter spear fishing trips but would you consider taking on a charter specifically targeting shallow water and serve as an tutor? This would be for be for my son who is 19. Finally, I have several spear fishing and fishing you tube channels I subscribe to and yours is one of my favorites, not blowing smoke but truly appreciative of the content, just wish there was more but I understand you have competing responsibilities. Keep up the great work.

    Would you try a steam catch and cook with a maxx 2 to 2.5 Llb either with a Garoupa or Parrot. Spring onions Cilantro, Soya Sauce diluted and 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Warm the Soya sauce bring hot oil to boil pour on fish then add soya sauce and place raw shredded spring onions and Cilantro for garnish, and a bowl of steamed white rice. Divine. Steam the fish for 7 minutes per pound. A way to test is put a chopstick behind the dorsal fin, if it glides in easily it is perfect ready to remove. Throw the steamed water as it can be fishy. Then add the soya sauce hot oil and garnish with Cilantro and Corriander 👍😋😋😋🐟🐟🐟

    Hey Aaron, big fan of the channel. I’m in the keys every weekend and do this exact type of diving, maybe 20-25ft deepest. I’ve been able to get nice blacks and muttons but always want to improve. I just got a light to check caves, but need to improve my technique. When you dive do you keep your light on your wrist, belt, or just in your hand? Also, I’m trying to adapt your technique of pointing the light down the shaft, but struggle to stay down with both my hands full. Just got a weight belt I’m wondering if that will help? Really appreciate your mindset towards spearfishing and I’ll keep supporting the channel!

    9 out of 10 times I'm coming up without a fish because I'm such a bad and new judge of size! LoL...it's killing me but there is no need to shoot undersized fish.
    The commentary is awesome...thank you.

    2nd time watching this video, this depth I could do. My biggest issue I think would be identifying what is a shootable fish. I need to get a crew together and charter you. When is the best time of year for this kind of trip?

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  3 роки тому

      Summer time is the best time for these trips. Though i will say this is a really good day for the shallows. Most of my beginner divers don’t do this well. Just like to keep expectations realistic!

    I know this may sound stupid for a guy who has never snorkeled (go ahead and laugh at my expense!) but how do you breath underwater and how long can you stay underwater?

    • @KeyWestWaterman
      @KeyWestWaterman  4 роки тому

      no such thing as a stupid question! but we arent "breathing" underwater, just holding our breath, but me personally a good dive is 1:30 or more, average dives 1:10 to 1:30

    Very good points...had a grouper in a ledge..hit d light and it went crazy in there...well after this video lesson learnt!! But yeah shallow diving is really under rated...i got a 7lb dog snapper in less than 10ft..so yeah shallow spots are fruitful as u said..."know where to look".
