For me the reason I stopped playing were 1) The movement speed was just way too coked up for my taste. 2) It felt like the vehicles were abandoned. As a heli and tank main you just felt so exposed and easy pray for any Tom, Dick and Andy that you had to camp at base. No buildable repair spots and no-one ever used the repair tool. 3) People just stopped communicating and it turned into TDM with people speeding and bunny hopping around.

    • @karim0302
      @karim0302 7 місяців тому +244

Agreed. It's so crazy to me that the devs think they should increase the ttk to counter the high-kill-count flanks instead of decreasing the movement speed and making vehicles more important again. But I guess that's the result of them leaning more into the arcade identity now (bandaging being removed, etc).
Edit: when I wrote this some time ago, it was said that bandaging was being removed. But recently the devs haven't shown or said anything that is pointing towards bandaging being removed, and they have shared screenshots with bandages still intact, so this change is very likely not taking place.

The game simply diverged from its own vision and identity. It went from a halfway point between Battlefield and Squad to somehow being more cracked out than Call of Duty, but with even worse maps and gameplay flow. @@mix7893Helldivers has had serious PR issues and has not been out long enough to understand its player count over time or where it's going.
It is also heavily focused on live service and the player counts change with new content, albeit not that much and there are plenty of people boycotting the game because of the whole PSN account required thing and them still not providing access to countries PSN is not available in.
Honestly, the issues with Helldivers has mostly been PR related, not that it was too popular. And the devs, rather than Battlebit's, backed down and decided to not overhype future updates and make sure they were focused on making the game more fun and involve the players more.
The jump in popularity didn't help Helldivers' player counts, but the issue is much more on the PR side (as well as some balancing issues).

I think that there's some truth to what you said, but I think that the main thing that killed the game was the movement. Once people figured out the game's movement, it became clear that the movement speed was way too high, mantling was way too fast, and leaning was way to spammable. Once that was figured out by the community, tactical, team-oriented, and objective play plummeted in favor of movement-oriented play. That completely killed the style of the game that brought people to the game in the first place--massive teams playing for objectives.

The week after release where everyone just tries to figure out the stuff, and the week after christmas when the kids are finally able to play. Other than that, call of duty has been and always will be a sweatfest. It was like that with the og modern warfare 2 and it still will be like that now.
You can't upkeep a casual fanbase with these games. Because 1) these games require a bit of time and dedication to get good in/have fun with which results in 2) casual players become tryhards. And at any point, the fanbase will have mostly transformed into that and it will be a sweatfest. Other games that aren't FPS have that too. Like strategy games (starcraft) or MOBAs (league). The difference being that you'll think it's a casual laid-back game until the 20 minute mark when shit hits the fan. People have always played PVP games to win. Thats the core spirit. You can't get that out of people because people forgot how to have fun playing the game, instead of only having while winning. Now THATS a video idea.

What killed it for me was how they started trying to wreck community servers after the fact, I mained a server run by RSclan where it was more of a hardcore gamemode based off the old BF3/BF4 hardcore modes, SgtOkidoki kept telling us how to run our server but with no set in stone guidelines with other servers like ours being able to do what we were doing originally but telling us to stop it
for instance with it being hardcore we modified weapon damage (as health itself was not modable) so we got our weapons to a reasonable TTK for a hardcore mentality well despite Oki never (to my knowledge) being in our server he said our modifications were to much and to tone it back which lead to inconsisant TTK on our server but they wouldn't inforce it on other servers and a lot of us were honestly pissed off,
a lot of what I think is missed by people who didn't run community servers is the constant trying to get set in stone guidelines on how they would like us to run our servers despite it being OUR server and then the constant backend server errors which caused even more issues for our server and community, not to mention at one point and to my knowledge this is still the case, the only way for a community server to even appear to the masses is to have people seed the server which is about 8-16 people which sucks when a community server itself has a small amount of players dedicated to it so its hard to bring it to a full capacity server
I agree with your point of they should not have let us have our own servers if they A were going to cycle back on it when it was to late and B have maybe tried to make their own official versions of servers like ours to maybe appeal more to their taste but then still have community run spin offs
either way if what they really wanted was a milsim game it should have had more time to cook before even touching early access and thus community servers, "QoL improvements" that further stepped from what they actually wanted etc etc

Personally the reason I haven't played much in a long while is that exact fragmentation of the community that happened with community servers. I used to be a massive tank main in BF3/4 and was really excited to have a game with tanks back in the conversation. They were a bit underwhelm at first but I was still excited to play the rest of the game with friends and hope that as early access rolled along, the tanks (and guns like the vector lets be real) would see a balance pass to get everything in line with each other. That slowly started to be true, but once community serves popped up and the classic 24/7 Tensa, no vehicle, 2x reload, bandage full heal (See 24/7 Metro games) servers started cropping up, I knew the game was going in that direction steadily away from what I hoped it would be. It lost it's true "vision" for what the game wanted to be; a ship without a captain set adrift in a sea of infantry only, cracked out, bunny hopping, lean spamming, servers which is the whole reason I don't play CoD/BF anymore.

Don't get me wrong the game still has like 3k players so its far from a "dead game" but 8 months for an update is pretty insane especially for a title that IS in early access. You're supposed to be pushing out updates regularly or your game just dies before it fully releases. I think early on the devs were doing a great job, but they should have expanded the team right away (beyond hiring the people that made the skin update). 3 people is not enough to handle a game that was exponentially growing. I understand that maybe they want to keep their vision in house but look where its taken us. 8 months waiting on an audio update, that turned into a major overhaul update. They could have just given us parts of the update over time so they could fix any issues that come about.

  • @Iron_Cutlass
    @Iron_Cutlass 6 місяців тому +10

For me, there was a few reasons why I stopped playing:
    1. The game's pacing shifted from a more mil-sim pace to a fast past shooter. Armor cannot be repaired and will constantly slow you down even if it is broken or shot off, so players would simply just play Medic with no armor to move as fast as possible and heal as much as possible, it lead to the game feeling really imbalanced since Medic went from a support focused class to a highly aggressive class in which other glasses were basically left in the dust. Once we finally got self-healing, it was the actual nail in the coffin since Medic players got the idea that they could just outright ignore teammates and focus on themselves since "oh, my teammates can just heal themselves".
    2. Weapon imbalance really killed the fun. A lot of the top-tier weapons were locked behind being a high rank which effectively made it so already good players would have access to better weaponry than less experienced players, which put the game much more in the favor of experienced players. It felt really hard to take the game casually when a player who is better than me is running Mach 10 with a Kriss Vector and beams me before I can even react since the TTK was insanely fast. During the Open Beta, the Kriss Vector was strong, but it felt more fair since you unlocked it early on, so every player practically had it, if I felt tired of dying to it I could just swap to it to be on equal footing but the Live Launch pushed it to a high rank and removed that.
    3. The grind... oh dear lord where do I even begin. Medic was definitely the best way to play the game, you got high speed, actions and equipment that provide a lot of XP, and really good weaponry. Other support classes (or classes in general) did not earn enough XP to keep up with the grind. It is so bad that when they added weekly challenges, I never even bothered with them since the XP loss from using other classes was massive enough for me to warrant not changing up my gameplay. The grind itself shoehorned me into playing the game in a frankly boring way instead of actually having fun.

The devs saying that they wanted Battlebit to be the "spiritual successor to Battlefield 2" is what got me interested in the game, it wasn't until just over 2 hours playtime that I realized that this game fell into the _exact_ same trap as Battlefield did.
It got more and more arcady with focus on KDR, the _players_ loved that because all they wanted was Battlefield 3, at that point it was simply too late for Battlebit to be what the devs wanted.
If they pivoted back to BF2-style, a massive portion of the current playerbase would just leave, and if they kept doing what players asked for it would stray even further away from their initial goal and eventually join Battlefield.
So I don't blame them for just stopping the updates.
I don't think they "abandoned" it, I think it's more about trying to carefully bring it back on track, but by then it's probably going to be completely dead.

A game I really wanted to main since the dropoff of PS2, but was hit with issues I could not overcome. Thinking of that movement meta still increases my blood pressure.
At the end, I am just not sure the devs wanted a pseudo live service model out of their game. I believe they thought they could approach early access like the playtest, rolling things out when they were ready, and expecting the community to roll with the lumps and gaps like early access titles of old. But then they got the massive sales and tried to do a half and half, and the results speak for themselves.
But I also think Battlebit entered during a year of dearth of good FPS titles. But since then, BF 2042 and BF 5 had a resurgence of players, COD had new releases, and other F2P shooters came out and drew players away. Even if Battlebit had done everything right, this game was designed to replicate those titles, and once they caught up, BB became a hard sell.

Why they thought things like the vector and p90 was acceptable was beyond me. Certain guns made the game very unfun because they were massively OP so me and my friends got bored of it and quit. Also you forgot to mention that there was massive amounts of accounts banned for speech, music, ect. This company teamed up with unity to implement an AI censoring program that detected DMCA'd music, "inappropriate speech", and other typical AAA methods used to censor people.

Does it need some sort of a battle pass? No. But is the game unrewarding? Hell yes it is. The leveling system in this game is completely ass and the game trully barely rewards you anything. You can drop hundreds of hours in the game and still not have everything unlocked. Yes, you may have an incentive to play this way but that's not a worthy ration of rewards per time spent on the game. Number one way to kill a multiplayer game is drip feeding the community content to squeeze as much time out of them as possible. It's just a stupid model which doesn't work but all the companies keep doing it so they can pride themselves with all these shitty numbers.

Oki has not implemented what most people consider the minimum requirements for most issues.
For example, there was no official server provided for each region when the game was released.
Community servers do not show what modifications have been made, making it impossible to know their specific content before joining.
Community servers that have modified core content are matched with other servers instead of being matched separately.
Battlebit has a sizable community, but it is evident that some features were designed without any input from the community. Additionally, there were no community tests conducted before these features were updated.

I Remember Team Fortress 2 at one point had a quickplay feature that allowed you to connect to Official and Community servers that followed a official ruleset that disallowed mods, MOTDs, and Official Maps only at the press of a button, which can be used in Battlebit to preserve the vanilla feel and promote a community hosted vanilla feel. There should be incentives for server hosts to create these Vanilla Servers for it to work however, but they could also allow some messaged to get newer players to try community modded servers but still have a fallback to vanilla servers.

What I wanted most was weapon customization like in real life, allowing me to attach two scopes to a weapon, for instance. Additionally, it would be amazing if the game included shotguns that are not yet available, new military vehicles, and artillery, making it a true war simulator. I can only imagine how exciting it would be to customize every detail of the weapons, choose different types of ammunition and accessories, and engage in intense battles with varied equipment. The realism of a battlefield filled with modern military vehicles, heavy artillery, and a wide range of customizable weapons would make the gaming experience truly immersive and rewarding.

I know my comment will be met with many people saying; "womp womp"', "skill issue", "cry about it", "git gud", and "no one cares". But idc, I'm gonna post my 2 cents on this. in my opinion, the problem with battlebit is the movement, and therefore the lack of movement. Let me try to explain; good players like their movement, and that's all fine and dandy to an extent, but the issue comes in that then, new players will be getting shit on until they either learn movement themselves, or quit the game. There is however another possibility, they learn sniping. And thus, they spend their time in the back of the map, with their 20x scope and m200, now again, this isn't a problem... to an extent. Now the problem is, most people are playing conq or inf conq, meaning with the number of snipers, you'll often have ~3 squads per team dedicated to sitting at the back of the map sniping, instead of playing obj. this means there's less people near the objectives, and matches feel sparser. Thats why I feel movement is the big killer of BBR, because it's too easy to just slap on a meta build and shit on players, forcing those players to start sniping, and thus, less active "players" if you will. Now, it's not too hard to see what's fucked up, but how do we go about fixing it? well, that's rather simple, just reduce movement speed, and it should be alright, to be honest.
to respond to the sniper mains who might say "sniping requires skill, its disrespectful of you to say that "new players" are snipers" and to that, I respond: I have 600 M200 kills, 400 L96 kills, and 230 MSR kills, I'm on page 96 of the longest kill leaderboard, with a kill of 1977M, sniping (long range) isn't hard, doesn't require much skill, just a long enough scope, and bipod.
to respond to the cracked out super sweats: no, it isn't a "skill issue" because movement speed is too high, its completely fair for someone who wants to be able to run a normal kit to not want to have to put up with that shit. I changed to light armor, and pp2k for 2 matches, in that time, I went from 5 kills with pp2k, to 135 kills, there's nothing "skillful" about dropshotting and changing your kit. everyone can do it, you aren't special. And just because everyone can do it, doesn't mean it should be the only thing on the battlefield.
will these issues stop me personally from playing? no, I like the game, as frustrating as it can be at times, but if I was new, I could see the game being way too punishing with earlier weapons and could see people putting the game down because movement is too fast, or they don't know how to deal with snipers.
my record in BBR, for those who want an estimate of the era of BBR I know, I have 917 hours, I started on aug 10 of 2023. currently I play engineer primarily, with an ak15, pg07 heat, c4, and g18. I still have fun, however there is a distinct lack of how it felt when I started. To those currently not typing out half assed responses to my somewhat valid argument, thank you for taking the time to read this.

Exactly. You can’t sustain yourself off gimmicks.

Not true. The problem is that the game itself doesn't reward your time. Why should I devote my attention to a game that doesn't reward it? BattleBit also has massive balance and identity issues. So many guns and the meta is dominated by 3 of them. Movement is also way too fast and crazy compared to the rest of the game, vehicles are in a very awkward spot, class balance is terrible.
Meanwhile, Helldivers is now making a comeback because the quality of the updates is massively improving. People didn't leave Helldivers because they have short attention spans, they left because the developers continued to make the game worse and less fun over time, not to mention that HD2 also has a very weak endgame, the sample grind is not exciting or engaging at all.
There's also the aspect of player count explosions. If you thought there was ANY way that HD2 would retain its 480,000 concurrent player peak, you don't actually understand how player counts flow. Player counts spike massively when games launch or get large updates because all of the dedicated players get on at roughly the same time, and play it more than usual, and then after some time people stop marathoning the game and start playing it on a more normal, spread-out schedule, so the amount of people playing at once goes down, even if no one quits the game. Helldivers didn't "die" because the player count didn't stay at 480k. Palworld likewise has always held a healthy player count.

So many people say they want something different, then you give them the power to make that difference and find out that what they wanted all along, was the exact same thing.

He "ditched" Planetside just for something else than Planetside, as I understand and that's just how it is sometimes. It's perfectly fine to be tired of a game, to want to move on to other stuff - I did as well, with all my time in Planetside I felt like I have gotten what I wanted out of this game, and now I moved on to other experiences.
Besides, let's also be honest, there's not much future left in sight for Planetside. The game has remained quite stale for some time, and I have little faith that the newest studio in charge will be *able* to do much to really give this game a renaissance.
But don't get me wrong, there is no spite or salt in my words - that is just how things go. Nothing can last forever, and Planetside will have to go at some point. And recognizing that a game is on its way out while also enjoying it isn't incompatible, nor wrong.

in my very narrow view, people constantly compared this game to call of duty and played it like call of duty. like the game is clearly a squad-battlefield hybrid but everyone wanted it to be a movement shooter with weird time to kill and the devs were swayed in that direction as well, but never enough to satiate the cod crowd. now theyve just gone back to call of duty and the game is left without an identity.😊

you are half right about the community servers. there are NO OFFICIAL SERVER for asia server at the time before community servers are allowed, all people wanting to play from asia suffers from 100+ ping in a extremely fast TTK shooter. after community servers dropped, there's only 2 main Asia server, and both of them using official progression with no custom ruleset bringing the authentic battlebit experience.
even currently nowadays asia only have 1 server with consistent 250 player during peak times which allows the full battlebit experience for Asia players, if the community servers were not dropped back then, i don't think the current server will even have any players these days

Like what I have said. A small dev team like this not hiring more ppl to help is destined to lose players and die off. If they had a bigger team then battlebit might have lived on longer and picked the right opponent. People are idiotically just pointing it as the battlefield killer and they even did the bf4 art style to show their goal which in the end failed horribly. They barely exceed 2k players now on steam and somehow 2042 an objectively "worse" game mentioned by the community is outperforming them. Why? because apparently picking a triple A studio as a indie studio with barely anyone isn't a smart option to be exact. Also they needed a bigger team to actually push out update.

I haven't played the game in a while, but I did really enjoy it. I really hope they come back swinging, because this game deserves it.
