After a summer-long hiatus, Soundcheck relaunches this month with a new 1-hour radio broadcast every weeknight, an exclusive from one of New York's hottest bands -- and a new digital home, Soundcheck.org.
On Sept. 10 the acclaimed New York indie band Grizzly Bear joined John Schaefer for an exclusive sneak preview of their upcoming new album, "Shields." The band performed new songs during a live video webcast and taping!
Here's one of those new songs, "Sleeping Ute".
Enjoy!

Dang.. Just discovered this band, and they've already dissipated. I sure hope they reform. They're special. They've got that quality that few artists have, whereby their songs, the way they're written, the way they sound, their voices,... It goes straight to your subconscious and it's meaningful to you immediately.
Must honor keyboardist. He's doing wonders here for a non official member of the band.
+BilisNegra Yeah! I agree, he is in the shadow.. But he is doing a lot of wonder in this song :)
That outro is pure melancholy.. its perfectly Rossen
I'm just going to take a moment here to shout out to that extra touring musician they have on keys. He's doing a badass job.
the real simon and garfunkel of our time. true beauty
I wish that piano part jumped out on the record like it does live. Very cool.
I love Daniel Rossen to pieces. I hope he does some more solo stuff.
Daniel Ramirez He's like a modern version of Stephen Stills. That guy is very talented.
Daniel Ramirez Not one dislike. That's rare.
Check out department of eagles
He did more solo stuff!
Lucky you
I honestly forgot how much I like this band
s695579 I said the same thing just now man.
Its easy to forget cause not all their songs are as good as this
Tyler Durden Agreed. But I’m falling back in love with band again
@@TheRealSandorClegane they are
Few things better than getting drunk and swaying to Grizzly Bear in my chair. This band is absolutely unrivaled.
those vocal harmonies at the end are everything
Ed really shreds in this song. XD
What a performance. Someone get those boys a pitcher of lemonade!
Just saw them at Coachella! Get close and don't take your eyes away for even a second. They're worth everything.
Daniel Rossen TE AMO
Rossen is a wonder. A fucking genius.
God I love this band so much. I had a dream once where Grizzly Bear and the Fleet Foxes played this huge show together as some sort of big supergroup. I hope that happens in my life time, but probably not
@fleetfoxes 2024?
Eh I don't know about Fleet Foxes. Grizzly Bear and Tortoise sound like a more compatible matchup since they seriously both have that post-rock, fusion jazz flavor to their music. Only difference is that one is more vocal based and the other more instrumental. Now THAT would be a hell of a supergroup. :)
Ah yes, the Jesus and John the Baptist of the indie golden age ❤
I don't seem to get tired of this song and I'm prone to that
wow. fantastic performance, no idea they could pull that stuff off live
Aaron Arntz, the man on keys!
That fill at 2:42 made my day
for me, it's the one at 1:46
Both great picks... mine is 1:55 😩
They really need to do another set at The Green Space. Great acoustics plus a great live band equals awesomeness everytime.
Why am I just now hearing about this band?
I'm seeing these guys at Bonnaroo. I could not be more excited.
grizzly bear is great!!! as always;)
Soooooooooooo fuggin good at 1:33
it drives me crazy to see how talented these guys truly are
Robin Pecknold clearly took a ton of inspiration from Rossen, especially on crack up. Love them
both as songwriters.
Keep hoping someday they do a reunion show
In my opinion they are The Moody Blues of today
the synth at 1:40 through that delay...............YOS
On my list for my funeral....
Grizzly Bear, a band’s favorite band…
This is actually better than the album version
Que belleza...
Grizzly bear is a fantastic band. Do you know what would make them even more fantastic? Ed learning to play the fucking guitar
yeahyeahyaha2 he did record the guitars on horn of plenty and plays guitar on certain songs live too... Perhaps this one didn't need the acoustic bits?
Goooood law these guys! So good. Trip me out.
Just amazing
Daniel rossen has a wonderful voice
❤❤❤ splendida
great music, great lyrics!
would somebody hook me up with all the info on Daniel's equipment here? i wanna know how he is getting his tone.
This reminds me so much of Peter Gabriel era Genesis
Too good!
Guess the bands over. Eds gonna be a therapist now. Fuckin great never saw them live!
can anybody recommend any bands like these guys? Preferably similar to this song in particular. Absolutely love their sound.
+Ben Greenwood Local Natives are similar, but more controlled and less trippy.
+dan brooks Yeah, I agree with that.. there are many similarities, although I don't think they're not quite as "musical" or dynamic. A good band indeed.
Lost Media technically Department of Eagles are still Grizzly Bear.
@@LostMachinima Sigur Ros belongs right in that group
tight as fuck, great great soundddd
Daniel Rossen is the only thing I like about Grizzly Bear. Criminally underrated.
nothing's cutest than 2:02
Does anyone knows what cymbals are those?
Does anyone know wich bass guitar chris is playing?
If I had to guess, i'd say it's probably a Teisco or maybe a Harmony?
+vinicius verissimo Rickenbacker
It's a Contessa HG 61. Obscure Italian brand from the 60s. Found the answer on talkbass.
The bassist kind of looks like Todd from Breaking Bad
Top sexy tune.
Ed looks so uncomfortable with a guitar in his hands
a quien chingados se la dedica?
or like banjo or something. when he's not doing lead vocals he has nothing to do really
DANIEL'S ending is everything
Yeah, Ed has even said in interviews that hes easily the least musically capable (or something like that) out of the guys in the band. Seriously though, a second guitar could work some wonders if he could play something besides the power-chords in Knife.
Good thing his voice is so powerful because they wouldn’t sound right without him
time signature at the intro? anyone? I think I got it, 3/8+3/4+3/8 !! crazy groove... they are masters, best songwriters around.
Julki Tan it's 4/4
lol it's not 4/4, sounds like 12/8
ya it's just 12/8
