I've probably watched this about 100 times now. sometimes for entertainment other times to study and learn the guitar parts; so I figured it was time to comment. Wow. Absolutely killer set and a perfect mix. Is anyone else totally obsessed with this?
Yep. Come back to watch the master time and time again
yes, lol. I’m so obsessed.
Love it. Always come back to it. He’s so good. Small town in Australia can only hope he’d come play here again one day.
@@AGL888 He played a few shows in the UK earlier this year and I am absolutely kicking myself that I missed him.
Golden Mile is so big! I've discovered this song here several years ago. Never lost its beauty - so deep & great chords. Sadly the string on his 12string broke after that track.
Golden Mile is one of the most beautiful things Ive ever heard in my life.

Agree to 1000%
Rossen is a monster: even his unreleased songs are far beyond what many another artist would release proudly. And that last, unnamed song is maybe the most powerful...

@@strangelot whoa! So glad I came back to this video once again
I fucking love this comment. Your justice for good music as such is much needed in this modern shit stained world
Dan’s actually my cousin lmao.
@@hcll2234 Wanna go out?
Dan always stands out in my mind as THE MUSICIAN I wish I could tell how much his art has improved my life.
I will occasionally find myself tripping on the idea that the people who’ve made the music I love, aren’t making enough off their art to survive. Dan is always at the top of that list.
Like, if Dan isn’t making a living from this, then the world is just fucked. It’s a genuine feeling that consumes me at times.
Truly, I concur--the fact such visceral phonic beauty can be crushed in the folds of a world wrought with so much despair and pain is discouraging, suffice to say. However ironically, I find the best remedy to this feeling time and time again is his music. A testament to his perseverance and quality as an artist in that he still creates increasingly beautiful music. Cold comfort maybe, but enough.
0:35 - golden mile
7:28 - silent song
15:40 - made to rise
19:25 - untitled
thank you, please bump this post

Thank you miraduel
This man's guitar work is soo underrated... Beautiful. Can't wait for the new grizzly bear.

Damn, I mean if people had respect for folk musicians now like they did for folk singers back in the day Daniel Rossen would be well known.
He’s still in another musical galaxy some of us wish we could touch, let alone comprehend writing masterpiece songs like that, the amount pure love and gentleness in his voice, the ups and downs of his guitar and the originality of his chords/sound. What a legend of a song writer. It’s bloody amazing, he out of anyone might like to know we’re still listening and love it.
this dude has some serious guitar skills

And music theory
Man, that main riff in Golden Mile on the 12 string almost sounds like a violin accompanying the guitar. Wild.
So greeeeaat tune! Deeply American but also kinda Eastern Europe like
Saw him live around that time in Philly, about 20 feet away. Thanked him for everything he did after the show. Great musician and a gentleman.
I'm an older guyy - 63. Haven't seen this kind of talent in a long while. Tnx.
Daniel is one of the greatest guitarist and song writers of the 21st century

@@strangelot looking forward to it already subscribed!
I was completely entranced by his performance. I see a passion in his music that I don't see in other artists music. And it's so genuine and heartfelt. He's really a treasure.
hell of a guitarist/singer/song writer. true triple threat....my favorite piece of grizzly bear.
Chris Taylor is the real genius behind the group.

Patrick F nah
Everyone involved is a huge part of the sound. Chris Taylor's production is the bow on top.
The first songs guitar is.... immaculate. I got the same goosebumps as I did when I first heard the veckatimest (?) opener southern point. Total beast on the acoustic god bless
At this point I really consider this to be a legendary performance. Honestly one of the best offerings to folk and alt rock I've heard yet.
So much joy in this music that it’s sad. This guy has got the glow.
I’m so glad that this video exists. I don’t know how many times I’ve played it.
I don’t even know how this radio host remained so calm, especially as a fan, she had a private show to herself practically. I probably would have lost all ability to function.
Same here. I would be absolutely dumbstruck in the company of him. He's the biggest inspiration for my own music. Would never have the same love of music if it weren't for him and Grizzly Bear.
I luv all the g bear guys but rossen is the reason i listen to them!
Thinking he would have been really big thing in 70s makes me really sad, I still believe he will get bigger eventually though. :) And seriously, no one plays guitar like him. Such an unique guitarist!

18:58 he even makes tuning the guitar sound beautiful

Oh, god...
His EVERYTHING is oh-so-glorious.
I've always loved him in Grizzly Bear, but this is phenomenal. Definitely the most talented person I think I have seen play on KEXP. He is just so damn good at guitar, and comes up with such unique lines.
This lady is the most lucky/blessed person alive fr 🖤
The way he plays that 12 string just fucking blows my mind.
The way he's playing guitar paired with his great voice is just too good
I am in awe of his talent.

holy shit that song with know name is fuckin outta control, a song that really makes the sun rise man... ... what a boss
I haven't read one negative comment for this video. The power of the DR is undeniable.
He's fantastic, so why isn't he well known
Because he makes REAL good music
That string popping after such an immaculate first performance is the core of Daniel's existence 🙌 😑
Lol
My god this man is incredible
I love everything about his playing and his hauntingly humble vocals.
Wish Daniel would release more solo material.

@@strangelot I exchanged emails with him a while back, I think he's working on it but the pandemic and all. Did you post that? I'm interested.
@@jamescumbie2187 Where did you find his email? I’ve always wanted to send him an email to describe my love and appreciation for him as an amazing songwriter.
@@uncccut23 Just on his website!
@@jamescumbie2187 Cheers mate!
He DELIVERED
In "Untitled", it's practically impossible to guess what chord comes after the other. Most songs have a pattern to follow in the musical scale. Daniel does the opposite. That's genius
exactly !! such a genius
I love this version of Golden Mile
i hope more people come to appreciate this man's music. the Silent Hour/Golden Mile EP is fantastic. it would be awesome to see these songs played with full band because the arrangements are so beautiful.
...and the voice could have used a little reverb or delay here.
i just cant with this its so good. Happy 420
I love this man
The quantity of beauty here is so moving to me..I come back as much as I can
SO talented, seems like whoever he chooses to make music with, himself or with others, he absolutely blows it away. Amazing.
I can never get enough of his voice. I love when I'm at work (like now) and locate tunes from the likes of Daniel and just get swept away.
This dude carries Thom Yorke's torch for me.
or he and thom yorke are in full possession of their own torches..
thom yorke seems to be losing it now which is sad (just going off some recent live radiohead stuff) ...also controversial opinion maybe but apart from a few songs i've been bored by the last two radiohead albums. in rainbows will always be my favourite though!
Having the internet finally pays off....I could listen to this all day.
Too bad I won't be able to see him play live :(
I Love this beautiful man, and his ever-so-beautiful melodies.
Ah, the blessings are many.
It'd be great of you guys had these sessions released like EPs. Rossen is such a genius!
Daniel is a pure musician and a true person
What an amazing talent.
Just incredible. Thank you Daniel!
The best
This guy is AMAZING !!
Thanks for this Daniel and KEXP. Sounds amazing. I hope to get to see a solo performance live someday.
he's genius, such a great inspiration
daniel rossen you fucking boss
mesmerizing stuff
in love with his style of playing
Jesus this is so good.
I absolutely love him.
I'm sorry for Grizzly Bear, but the future of this dude is to leave the band and dedicate himself full-time to his solo career. His guitar technique is fascinating. It almost seems like a new version of Nick Drake ..
He is amazing. That being said, I think he and his songs are greatly complemented by the rest of the genius members of Grizzly Bear. I think all four know that.
@@BloomoftheSun Agreed. As an individual he does make the best music, but his solo stuff is still lesser than Grizzly Bear.
His department of eagle stuff is incredible too I like that he’s not afraid to spread out and work with others
Recently interviewed Daniel Rossen on his songwriting process - will be posting the video on our UA-cam channel next Saturday 11/21
it really upsets me that he doesn't release more solo material. I get it... but I'm sure there's so much gold he's sitting on that he's hesitant to release
“Just finished this song yesterday so it might be a little funny” like bro wtf I wish I could write music like that

Hahaha I know 😂
That last song is incredible, to discard it would be a travesty.
Love Love Love him !
I love this version
So powerful. Such an incredible musician.
I guess it's time to give Grizzly Bear another listen, cause this is pretty good.
listen to yellow house, some of his best songs are all over that album :)
Bullie Mthembu Thanks. Yellow House is very good.
+Bullie Mthembu on a neck on a spit!!
Little Brother is a masterpiece.
White Antelope just listen to Department Of Eagles record “In Ear Park”.
Daniel Rosen tuning is an actual result on Google.
Awesome artist ! Thanks for this 👍🏻
its a shame rossen’s career is during a decline in the popularity of rock (and especially the folkish stuff that rossen makes). if he made music in the 70s he would be a legend
He is a legend to me
He's back more potent than ever.
To preach his 12-string gospel.
holy shit
I didn't even notice or realize his string snap on his other guitar, even after watching this video HUNDREDS of times. It was just this time now I finally did.
Cheryl and Daniel, not sure which one I love the most
Perfection.
I love him so much. He's as amazing live as are his studio recordings if not better.
2 NEW SONGS FROM DANIEL ROSSEN OH YES
....I 'm just gonna give up playing guitar now
Michael Garcia that should motivate you
he was 33 in this video. don't give up.

23:44 is pure angelic bliss
I really don't appreciate his guitar playing enough. Golden Mile is masterwork.
Stellar
I love him.
beatiful. just beatiful. he is a genius.
Didn't know Martin Freeman was that gifted at playing guitar !
Incredible performance
Genius....
That last song is really great. I had to listed to it twice.
Who could possibly dislike this, like wtf?
Love DR.
grate!!!
Reminding me of another guitarist I listen to - Laura Marling
this is some powerful stuff
The department of grizzlies going lone wolf ;)
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Silent song is too good
wow! that Untitled song is mesmerising..
i really enjoy his music but that lady was really ready to get down on him
Yes..I wish I could silence her
Grizzly Bear are amazing, I have every album.
Daniel's is a slightly different flavour, but quite beautiful, and his EP is stunning!
#grizzlybear
FUCK, that chord at 24:57. So good.
Open d tuning. 0-4-0-0-4-0
@@nallelygalarza7593 Wow, thank you very much!
fun fact: daniel gifted this old honey a cream pie as a parting gift after his set
What he's saying is that Daniel Rossen filled this beautiful woman's vagina with is sweet sweet cream after he was done filming those wonderful set.
+ Demolished Thoughts LP = Damn great!
