Maximus is basically the kind of character most people play as in Fallout. The morally ambiguous, self-serving opportunist.
Minus the 0 charisma stats

Maximus is definitely the type of fallout player that would go onto a forum and ask, "Can I still get the good ending if I kill this NPC for their armor?"
He probably also has the idiot savant perk.
I was saying this since the shie came out. Lucy is overly optimistic. Ghoul is dark and angry at the world.
Maximus is us. Normal person able to make their own choices with a normal amount of trauma that has become a lense to view the world through... but not as dark of a lense as the ghoul has.
I don’t think most people are aware of the real horror of why Lucy’s pip boy set off the cannibal. All a vault dweller is to a cannibal is the opportunity to get some prime Wagyu beef. Raised well in a more or less stress-free environment for its entire life, fed three square meals a day of the best food you can, and for certain filled with less tumors and cysts the most of the other people, they run down up here. Even if Lucy & Max had both been armed to the teeth, that is a meal any cannibal would still try for.

Vaults 31, 32 and 33 are the only ones that are connected. There are 122 vaults in Fallout lore and no other vaults are known to be connected to one another like those three. So it is very interesting to us game fans also, because it is a new "thing".
As far as I see it Lucy is the character that makes good guy choices, Maximus is the one that makes the ambiguous neutral choices, and for the most part The Ghoul makes the self serving bad guy choices. They represent the 3 main character archetypes in the games.
Shady sands was the very first place you come across after leaving the vault in fallout 1, but back then it was a very small settlement and not a massive city of 30k people
You two have some interesting theories... if you look carefully, you can see the vault number on their jumpsuits.

If you keep trying to define these characters as 'good' or 'bad', you're going to have a rough time with this series. It doesn't work like that in real life, and it doesn't here, either.
It's interesting how many people keep calling Maximus evil and dislike him but are fine with the Ghoul, who commits multiple acts of callous brutality, but does it in a way that's 'cool'.
I never though max was evil, or the bad guy. I actually like his character. Hes made some questionable decisions but hes not a bad guy.
None of the three main characters are evil, Thadeus isn't a good guy or bad guy. There's no good or bad people yet, just a shades of grey.
Well I mean you can say vault tech and anyone associated with them is bad. Like Lucy dad.

The Brotherhood of Steel were always self serving. They did help develop and protect the wasteland as the humans who left their vaults developed settlements, trade, and infrastructure to a point through the two centuries following the great war but, when pushed came to shove they bumped heads more than once with the New California Republic. And by bumped heads I mean they had multiple wars which is why you see the Brotherhood in such a dismal state at the beginning of the show. They're low on numbers and probably the only reason they can have an active base on the surface is due to the New California Republic being in a state of turmoil right now. The big airship you see is from their eastern chapter on the East coast(And the East Coast chapter and airship are explained in the games Fallout 3 and 4 and the conflicts with the NCR and their role controlling the wasteland is from Fallout 1,2, Tactics, and New Vegas).
Ghouls on the other hand are simply extremely lucky survivors who simply don't die when just enough radiation hits them instead of killing them it gave them a mutated appearance inside and out essentially leaving them immortal. Though, mind you they're not exactly mutants themselves. They simply look horrific due to the effects of the radiation from the Fallout. There are actual mutants in the Fallout universe but the show hasn't introduced them yet.
But yes, the games originally had Ghouls going feral randomly and there was no hard and fast explanation or cure for it. The show is seemingly introducing this drug in the vials they need to take off to hold off becoming feral. There's a few theories and or game and lore moments that kind of contend with the idea but, I think it might just be a retconned idea they're just introducing for the sake of explaining why the Ghoul in the show is so old with succumbing and going feral. It'll probably end up in future games for better or worse.
As someone who has recently fallen into the lore hole… bless you. I promise for every mini-essay Fallout fans write, there’s someone like me eating it up. I’ve been PacMan with just vault lore for like a week 😅
@@coryhamelehle6439 Oh, I know. I just didn't want to completely inundate the comment with an essay on Brotherhood lore. I'm trying to keep it short and sweet so I'm not over whelming these reactors with too much and as far as I know you see the name Prydwen on the side of the airship in the show. I know the Caswennan was hyped up in prerelease publicity information but, I think that was to throw people off from the fact the Prydwen was going to show up from the Commonwealth. Not to mention, the nuclear engine in the Prydwen is a one of a kind creation made from the land crawler in the Broken Steel DLC so, I don't think there's going to be too many advanced airships in the skies of the Western Brotherhood otherwise. There could definitely be normal zeplin style ones but, I can't imagine others unless they're able to retrofit Fusion tech or rechargeable electrical tech(especially after this show). It just depends on if Bethesda or a third party studio has the narrative balls to take the Brotherhood into a new era given all that's happened thanks to this show and what we know in their universe post Fallout 4.

Ya'll finished the show already but I just wanna say, I think the whole Maximus tittering between "good" and "bad" is the show using a concept from some fallout games, predominately 3. Karma. you could play the game helping people (like Lucy) and gain positive karma, doing whatever you want that helps YOU (like The Ghoul) gets you negative karma, and if you kinda walk the line between (Maximus) then your karma is just in the middle. it affects how people treat you and interact with you. I miss Fallout 3 (my personal fav) and can't wait for the inevitable remaster. 🤟🏼☢︎

Uhhh. He put a razor blade in his friend's boot because he was being petty and jealous. Then he didn't even do a very good job lying about it. He had no way to know that would lead to him getting the position. So the only reason to do it is if he was a vicious person. I don't think I could do something like that to an enemy much less a friend. And I don't see any regret in him about what he did.
Extremely broken people in an extremely broken world. It's difficult to justifiably judge them based on our moral standards in our "safe" world. We are all, at our core, wild animals.

I don’t get why Cody and Bridgett turned on Max so hard. Max had to reveal himself to Thaddeus, because they were about to return to base where the Brotherhood would definitely find out who’s in the suit, but instead of talking it out with Max like he suggested, Thaddeus instantly betrayed Max. Thaddeus is the bad guy here. Max just realized he couldn’t let Thaddeus go rat him out to the Brotherhood. Max is a good guy.

Maximus is the idiot savant character player build. 1 charisma and 10 luck. He's constantly doing and saying the wrong thing and it's going his way for the most part
In this universe when you get radiation you either get normal sickness and cancer and you dienor you become a Ghoul and yes you live forever but its offset by the prejudices against Ghoils or the fact you eventually go feral. Its just sad because in game this is a mucj bigger issue because the prejudices pushes Ghouls to live in there own communitys instead of normally spread out this is what causes you to find grouped packs of feral ghouls. Also ill never get over the NCR being killed off screen

This.. never even occured to me! I've played the games and I know about the prejudice against Ghouls, and I know about Necropolis and the benefit of being able to live in irradiated areas as ghouls are virtually immune to radiation. But never occured to me to connect the dots that they live together as regular ghouls which means that when they eventually do go feral that's why they are already in packs.
We see the encounter in Fallout 4 when you can meet the Feral ghoul versions of your pre-war neighbours and they were all together. So makes sense they went together somewhere after the bombs, the turned ghoul together and they went feral together. Really sad when you think about it.
