Gangaikonda Cholapuram |The story of the Chola king who conquered the Gangetic plains
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лип 2021
- Gangaikonda Cholapuram was the capital city of Rajendra Chola, the greatest Chola king that ever lived. Born to an illustrious father, Raja Raja Chola, this mighty king ruled over large parts of south India over 1000 years ago. He wanted to anoint his new capital city with water from River Ganga. So he sent his army on a long expedition from Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu all the way to modern-day Bangladesh. His army defeated many kingdoms en route, and brought back water from the holy river Ganga. He poured this water into a lake he built, the Chola Gangam, one of the largest manmade lakes in India till date. Gangaikonda Cholan literally means 'the Chola king who conquered the (plains of) River Ganga'. Rajendra Chola commanded the largest blue water navy in Indian history, and used it effectively to subdue Srivijaya, a southeast Asian kingdom that lay 3000 kilometres away. The magnificent Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple was built by him and it still stands tall as a charming celebration of his might and power.

Emperor of Indian Ocean & Real Father of Indian Navy ⚓
By preferring Shivaji’s seal over the Chola motif of Tiger, India is sending a message to South East Asians. India should make sure that it doesn’t send out any wrong signals even if unintentional. The Chola symbol in Indian Navy can create a scope for China to peddle unfavourable narratives towards India. It’s good that India is acing the mindgames by not creating such an opportunity the symbol is choosen after long thought and discussion
@@Deveshi.A. Yeppudraa???😂... There are lot of armies which include predatory animals in their emblem & many more with guns & swords but not shields everywhere... I'm sure we can make a definition with whatever the provided symbols. So don't say something like this bro. It's not about selecting the symbols but about squeezing the history 🙃
@ASK ME no he's not...
@ASK ME Shivaji was a small king compared to Rajendra Chola. No comparison at all !
@@prashanthb6521 small king their army had 100000 men under him and all of maharastra almost the size of all South Indians states he inspired the next generation of Marathas to conquer all the way to afganistan 2 twice the size of chola Empire.
I'm a South Indian who doesn't know much of its history. Pls do more videos on South Indian history
That's more pathetic
I’m so happy that ur so eager to learn our history…❤️ hats off sissy
It's already available through different UA-cam channels. Do your research ✌️
our Own History ignored in schools but we learned East india company and Akbar the great
Wat is south india is it a new country😅 what the hell
During the chola era they used to mention present day bay of bengal as Cholai thadakam which means chola lake ... Because it was surrounded by the chola empire
Now christians r well suppprters of vholas now theu were the one destroyed and dig a pit and put the actual indian history and covered it and promoted british and akbar kings
Now somehow they supoert get lost i scum bagss
True. I heard that in goa museum old Portuguese map it was written as Cholas Lake
Vannakkam and “epadi suham, as Tamils in Sri Lanka say. I lived in Sri Lanka over 50 years ago for 3 years and learned some Tamil. I went to Madurai frequently and spent much time at the Meenakshi Amman Koyil, one of my favorite places in the world. You all are doing a wonderful job of revealing the history of India. I still remember a verse from the Tirukulam. I love you guys.
You should again visit now
Rajendra chola The Great..🔥👑
He's not a "king" he's an Emperor. He's called the RAJA RAJA Cholan for a reason.

South India's history is sternly ignored by the great NCERT Textbooks!
No South.. Chola, Travancore, Kochi trade history(jews, Muslim, Roman ), Pandyan, Chera .. It is cruel SouthIndian students study only Northern 'Indian History and Languages..
@@rajuvarma5338 brother that is because our text books are Delhi Centric.

When I has a chance to visit Tami Nadu, I made a visit to this temple, but most unfortunately the caretakers prevented visitors from taking photographs. This must change. Taking photos is one way to promote both Tamil history and to promote tourism for the local economy.
Taking pics of monuments and temples are different. The groups who are in the caretaking of temples since many Dynasty don't like the temples to be photographed for various reasons known to them. Lets just heed them as it involves their sentiments who sacrificed their Dynasties for the temples.
Well said
@@pradeepmuniandi I cannot understand the "India's Indian mind". On one side they proudly show pictures of Mars landing and on the side cannot show temples and monuments "for various reasons". I remain to be enlightened. The world is proudly showing off their "wonders of the world", but the Indians are hiding them even from photography. Very perplexing.
All most all of these great monuments are under the hold of ASI and you are free take pictures except the deity inside the sanctum.
Wow it's well narrated by explaining clearly about South Indian Tamil King. Arul Mozhi Varman(Raja Raja Cholan) who started to expand Chola Dynasty, while his son Maduranthagan(Rajendra Cholan) who literally conquered ever place in Southeast Asia. Chola also brought their business and trading into various of country. I recommend everyone to read and learn about these great Kings. The history will make you goosebumps ❤️
madhuranthagan is not rajendra chozar.
@@r.c.j6358 exactly, madhuranthagan is not Rajendra Chola 😢😑
Madhuranthaga Chola (also called Uttama Chola) preceded Raja Raja Chola. Both were different people
Your guys are awesome, thanks for promoting our tamil culture in English
Amazing ! He constructed a lake than a monument. Vision

I really appreciate you guys for all these wonderful contents. South Indian Tamil Kings really were wonderful.
Brillant. There's not much about the Pandya Kings. Request a few episodes in these great kings also
Half Tamil half Sinhalese from Sri Lanka here. I learned of the great kings of both my heritage. My father taught me about Our Sinhalese kings and their 2000+ year historical acheivements and of the Chola, Chera and Pandyan kings as well
You guys have done a great job with this video, well done. Hoping to watch more of your videos.
Yes, of course.I stand corrected. I think my computer may have changed the spelling and I didn't notice. However, it has been over 50 years since then and my memory isn't to be trusted. Anyway, "the flute is sweet, the flute is sweet, but none surpasses the sounds of little children". And I can still recite this in Tamil...at least half of it. I taught Shakespeare at Jaffna College in Sri Lanka and soaked up the wonderful culture. My son was born at a rural hospital and my daughter went to school in Tamil.
Anyone will fall in love with history with the wonderful story and the ease with which its narrated. Thanks a ton for bringing it to us!!
We have such legends in our country. Great RAJA RAJA Rajendra 🙏🙏
The world needs to know the greatness of south India.
What a brilliant way to say a story !

And this the legendary emperor was known as "Kadaram Kondan"
Remember that, he's also known as Vira Rajendra Chola. He single handedly defeated Chera and Pandiya in his time.
I'm just 40kms next to the legendary Capital of the Chola's
A wonderful down to earth true and honest account of the Chola Empire.

For those who screaming chatrapathi shivaji is called father of navy
Yenakkum adhe problem dhan. Modi just squeezed our history on 2014 😑
Hey, he is also our guy from a later time...
Shivaji is other level. As a tamilian myself I bow down to him out of eternal gratefulness.
@@nishobit.1293 he may be great, but not anywhere as great as cholas or other dravidians.
Actually central goverment supressed tamils maliyalies and telugus history because they dont support for central parties
I love your narrative style. Just enough emphasis on words and great information. In this age of passion and emotion, this is so much better and easier on the ear to listen to. Well done guys
Glad to hear the word "Chozha/Chola" being pronounced right.. We should teach all indians to pronounce it. It is not difficult. It is just like trying to pronounce any word with an "R" but with an amercian accent... Try saying "Round" with an American accent.. that is basically how you will say the "zh" in Chozha..

Extremely Well Done!! May I suggest videos about the Mauryan Empire, Pataliputra, the Kannauj Triangle, Mughal Agra, Vijayanagara Empire, the Maratha Navy and Solanki era Anahilapataka (Patan in Gujarat).

Excellent presentation!!!
Thank you so much. All the best for your future endeavors!!!
1:10 It's learned that Rajendra's victorious return from Ganga was scheduled on a new moon day and which was of his birth Star day. His homecoming was welcomed with lines and lines (ஆவளி) of lights(தீபம்) . Hence from then this new moon day was celebrated as 'lines of lights ' ,தீப ஆவளி --> தீபாவளி!!!
Fantastic narration and commendable job. You are doing a great service with your efforts. We need more 🎉
Irony is, students in Southeast Asia learn more about Raja Raja Cholan and the Chola empire than Indians in the subcontinent.
No it is not the case.
Cholas are heavily mentioned in NCERTs for their sangam period and for the trade relations they had with rome, south east asia , china and conquest they made in south east asia.
@@homosapien6414 I said students in South East Asia 'learn more', not not at all.
Please continue your work guys. Keep saying more about our history, It must more needed for our indian history

Great information i am proud of our ancestors ruled and well established civilization.
Very interesting information... flowing narration...thank you for this video. We didn't learn much of Southern history in our school days. So it's really good to know about this.
Raja Raja chola is the 1st king in the world who built a ships dedicately for an army to conquer the other nation via oceans throughout the world, while other part of the world were built basic ships just for trading. And Raja Raja chola was knows as the Ocean master back those days. This information have a solid evidence till now. No one in the world can ignore it.
Stop it right there. Even before Cholas, Romans, Greeks and Vikings had war going ships. Even Persians had navy
Brilliant 👏 👏 👏

Isn't it? Then why don't you feel ashamed of having a name of evangelist but you hate to hear the great story of your ancestral motherland?
Great stories from history - please let us know more about those mighty dynasties .

Indian Navy should name their largest ships after Rajendra Chola.
It is a shame that the North Indians dont even acknowledge South History.
Hey don’t be so naive , they have not told about Cholas, even in Tamil Nadu it’s not told properly. Do you know about north India empire who guarded India for centuries against multiple invasions.
Most wonderful narrative of the great Chola Kings RAJA RAJA and Rajendra Chola!.....
Pls make a video on how japanese Shinto religion 80% god's are mostly Hindu god's, and explain the life story of bodhisena | Nara temple.
Wow, well made video quite informative.
Very good video. Thank you. But I would request you to consider lowering the background music volume when you speak. It really helps.
I think ,Rajedhra Chola is actually the father of Indian navy instead of Chhatrapati Shivaji
Love this series. I would suggest to lower the volume of the music when people speak, often your softer voices are drowned out by the louder music.

What is often over looked but something that was exceedingly visionary was Rajaraja I decision to give Rajendra I viceroy position of the new Chola-Pandya region at madurai and then appointing him as the co ruler(1012-14) before his expedition to Chalukya. This transformative method of picking the heir apparent early and giving them as much responsibility & training made themselves ready for the big role. This allowed Rajendra(He then returned this favour to his son by appointing him as yuvaraja in 1018ce.) to not waste his time fighting other heir apparents or on deciding what to do next. He was ready to go. Sadly this tradition was loosened later.
A gòod narration.
Good content, but its not brihadeeshwara temple, its Peruvudaiyar temple
It's none of them. It's RajaRajeshwaram as per inscriptions
