I hadn't really heard anything about Control until it was free one month for PS+ and when I downloaded it I certainly thought it looked good but I had absolutely no idea what it was I was in for, I had no idea the scope of the game would be so large and that the story would be so intriguing and compelling. I would love to experience it again for the first time.
Going into Control totally blind was possibly the best decision I could have made. I picked up the game during lockdown, similarly on the Ps+ store, not sure what to expect. I was hooked *instantly*. After the teaser art of Control 2 that just dropped. I'm exceptionally excited for the sequel, and Project Condor!
I love this video, you should be proud of it! As a member of the SCP community, Control holds a special place in my heart as it was inspired by the SCP wiki and, in a way, acts as a sort of love letter to the community and to lovers of all things weird! So happy to see more people giving it the appreciation it deserves.
Just stumbled across this video essay. Great work. I appreciate the editing and attempt to make everything exist within the aesthetic of Control. Very on brand. You've got a talent, keep going with it.
I finished my playthrough just a few days ago! I LOVED Jesse, I found her relatable on a very queer level, and you just elevated that for me. "The Egg cracks and the truth comes out", the endless legion of floating beaurocrats chanting the conformance chant, Polaris's gender, trauma and intrusive thoughts. It all just makes sense.
I LOVE this video so much, it’s definitely a favorite of mine now. There’s so much work that was put into it and I’m so proud of you for going through with it! I also love all the clips of gameplay, it somehow lines up perfectly with your commentary. I hope you do something like this again, it’s awesome listening to!
Never have I subscribed so fast to a channel. What a masterclass of a video essay, you should be really proud. It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one who’s completely obsessed with this game :)
One Remedy dev recently released an HDR mod that fixes HDR, texture streaming, updates the DLSS version that can be used AND allows for the FSR2 mod (or XeSS) now to properly be used as well. It also increases RT resolution Enjoy all.
Thanks! I'll have to look into this. I'm not overly familiar with modding much of the game. But I'm happy to see about making the PC version look even shinier.
Ahhh the much anticipated video is here, and I loved the video. I loved the 4th part the most bcoz of how personal it was to you, coz Jesse Faden also feels personal to me for a lot of reasons. Glad to have contributed to the video and looking forward to more from you ❤️🔻
Thanks! I'm sure if I had the time part 4 would have been twice as long with even more unhinged rambling. But still, that's stuff to mine for another video.
Great video! I played Control the first time two years after release, and it quickly became my second favorite game of all time (just after The Witcher 3). The design, the gameplay, the characters ... it's so good! Before, I never even played a Remedy game, but did that right after. For me, seeing how the Remedy Connected Universe works, is one of the most intriguing things. Alan Wake 2 is gonna be interesting for sure, but this goes all the way back to Max Payne. Because of Control I also read House of Leaves, The Southern Reach Trilogy and got into other New Weird/Weird Horror media. Such a cool and underrated genre. Sadly, the Control art book seems to be discontinued. Thankfully I bought a copy last year, this thing is a goldmine.
Thanks you! I discovered Remedy quite by chance and I'm now digging into OG Alan Wake, excitedly waiting for a sequel. It's a shame about the art book. I'm hoping to have more luck with the vinyl soundtrack!
Liked what I managed to hear very much, but couldn't bear how your mic makes that hollow sound or whatever, no option but to miss out on this great content ):
Ahoy, if you're referring to the audio at the start, that's more of a stylistic choice, emulating the reel to reel tape players found throughout the game. If you're referring to anything after the intro, yeah that's probably my inexperience/lack of any professional recording facilities to record.
Just replayed the game and both dlc for like the fifth or sixth time. Probably takes the spot of my favourite video game ever tbh. Just waiting for a Jesse cameo in Alan Wake 2. 😭😩
Dylan was not given his powers by Hedron/Polaris or the Hiss. He considered Polaris and the bureau to be using Jesse and not benevolent. Very little is actually done with him in terms of character development, and he seems to be depersonalized, seeing other people's dreams as his own. Like in the "office dream" he said he was the director who hired Jesse, but when we play that dream, the director is still Trench. It seems possible that the "meeting the president" dream is also a dream of Trench, as it is more in character for him. Maybe more will be seen from Dylan in the sequel.
Hello! Very cool analysis! You've got yourself a new subscriber! Still some constructive criticism. I think you might want to think about how you present your spoiler warnings. Quite a few people listen to these kinds of videos rather than watch them. So an audio message would be nice also. I haven't watched any other videos of yours and didn't know your style.. Of course you have to expect some spoiling. But one of the biggest mysteries said in just the beginning of the video felt quite abrupt. Still.. awesome job mate subscribed
Hello! Thank you for the feedback, and apologies for the spoiling. I did commit a little too hard to the bit and leaned into a joke that folks might have skipped or not realised was important to the video. I'm a little new to the format of making videos like these, but that should have been more explicit. Still, thanks for subscribing! I hope you enjoy my future content.
I made someone feel emotions with a video I made. Huzzahs are in order! For real though. I am glad I was able to convey that aspect. Part 4 was always very "vibes" based. So I am glad I could make it work. I just guess the next video on the power of being weak is going to be just as much fun!
I'm a cis woman so it never even crossed my mind that Jesse might be relatable to a trans person! The thing is, I've always related to Jesse as well, but I've often seen her being criticized as too... weird and unrelatable. I never could quite put my finger on why she resonated with me. ...turns out I'm autistic. Just got diagnosed a little over a month ago, and I'm still processing it, but a lot of things make _a lot_ more sense to me now to put it mildly
I think what is very fun about the way the character of Jesse is written, allows us to see multiple kinds of representation in her. Coding her character in a way that expressed she is different from the world, and struggles to interact with it normally feels so wonderfully neurospicey and trans. As a fellow 'tism haver, it's nice to see this interpretation, because it's one I hadn't considered!
Man I don't know if I've ever seen such high ass quality with so few subs and views. Edit: Jesse is not trans my guy... Ughhhh... This video was great right up until the last bit. I'm all for trying to make connections to our own life experiences in the things we watch and see but this is reeeeaaaalllly a stretch here. After doing a quick google search I see that there actually is conversation around this topic which is truly baffling. I'm not anti trans or any kind of bigot. I really don't care about how people live their lives, I'm just saying there is literally no evidence in this story to support her being trans other than some very warped and delusional thinking that Dylan has in his Hiss addled mind about them possibly having been one person at some time. And now you've gone and tried to make the entire games story an allegory of a trans woman in the world today...? Come oooonnnn... Edit 2: Im confused on if you really think she is trans, like as in that is what Remedy was going for, or if that is your own inner interpretation of the story. Because if its the later then more power to you.
For someone who's not a bigot of any kind, you sure do argue very aggressively against someones personal interpretation of a very intentionally ambiguous story. Yeah, Remedy probably didn't intend any kind of trans allegory in the game, but why does it bother you so much that someone might find that kind of meaning in the game they love?
Looked into it myself a bit and it seems like the rumor of Jesse being trans came from a explanation in Finnish about Jesse's and Dylan's relationship which was mistranslated from siblings to brothers. But in the end the whole plot is ambiguous so people are free to see it as they like.
@@MadKlauss I don't think the idea is based on any rumor, but rather on what Dylan talks about during his weird ramblings, where he brings up bunch of gender stuff. Also that kind of mistranslation wouldn't make much sense with brothers, more with sisters because the Finnish word for sisters (siskokset) is very close to the word for siblings (sisarukset) while the word for brothers is very different (veljekset)
I think that's part of the beauty of video games though; things like this are left open for interpretation. I would agree and say it doesn't feel as though that theme comes off anywhere near as strongly as the author is portraying it but I still find it interesting to hear about.
Wow, you blew my mind about Jesse being trans. I hadn't considered it. In some ways, I wasn't looking for it. I didn't see Control as a narrative for Jesse's personal journey of self-discovery, although the crumbs are there for us to follow, but as someone in desperate search for answers of what the heck happened in Ordinary, and searching for her missing brother. Maybe I'm a simpleton lol
That could've been a really gr8 critique but ofc everyone has to make everything political these days. I game to escape real world bs, you sir - erm, ma'am? might give it a try sumtyme
Yeah, no. We don't post things like this in our community, particularly on fan works. Be respectful or don't leave a comment. Not everyone is escaping from the same thing.

Maybe pay for it then, hopefully you'll actually support Remedy and buy the sequel and not get it for free.

There needs to be more long form videos about this absolute masterpiece of a game.

I blame Edgar Wright for instilling a need for perfectly in-sync audio/visuals
From a big fan of Control and Remedy to another, thanks for the awesome video!

CONTROL is my favorite game of all time so far, because of the combat, the lore, the atmosphere and the protagonist.

This was an IMPRESSIVE video. I pretty much agree with everything you have said in it!
The animatics 42:10 and 42:17, where does it comes from ? I don't remember seeing that in the game.
They're from one of the behind the scenes videos that Remedy made to help promote the game. This one specifically on the sound design.
Just replayed the game and both dlc for like the fifth or sixth time. Probably takes the spot of my favourite video game ever tbh. Just waiting for a Jesse cameo in Alan Wake 2. 😭😩
