I've lost count the amount of times i've tried to put my hand on the table in Racket Fury!
I’m so glad I’m alive to experience the birth of a new medium, I hope in the future that vr gains a much wider fan base and different new ways to play,I wasn’t around for the birth of gaming in the 70s but I can gladly say I helped shape VR gaming with our purchases and critiques
Just ordered my new PC equipped with an RTX 3080 and will be ordering my Index later this week. I can't wait to try out VR for the first time! And more importantly HL:A! This is going to be a long month, waiting for everything to get here...
I played on my friends vr headset for like 40 minutes, when i stoped playing i wanted to move the stick on a controller to look around, but i wasn't there. It felt so weird.
Great video! The immersion of VR has ruined me from playing flat games, I feel so detached and uninvolved, it makes me realize I'm just playing a game rather than exploring a new world from the inside.
Funny that same level of immersion we felt when we first played a flat screen game then happens again with VR but to the point where we can no longer enjoy flat screen games to the same degree
Its an interesting topic for sure. I dont think anyone has really solved this issue yet. I will look into more and look at doing a seperate video in the future.
Years ago a movie called Blair witch project came out, it was a huge hit. Largely because of how they filmed it. They made you feel like you were there, which was so different from anything before. I believe this will happen with VR. Someone will create a movie in VR, probably horror, and it will be such a huge hit that everyone will jump on board the VR train.
so true... i played project cars 2 when it launched, on PS4, and didnt liked it at all. Then i build my first PC and got a Rift S a year later and started to look for a cool racing sim. And with an steering wheel and the VR Headset, it felt a million times better. Its so cool and immersive and im already hyped how things will look in 10 years.
Boneworks, TWD:S&S, HL:Alyx, Pavlov, Beat Saber, Pokerstar VR and Sprint Vector are my favorite VR games at the moment. Such a great time to have a VR Headset!
There is a few VR games that have made me feel completely immersed, games like Robo Recall, flailing around like a maniac trying to grab bullets out of the air or rip robot heads off is amazingly fun, and also leads to you punching walls. I have yet to try Half Life Alyx, but I think I will be getting it soon. Everyone keeps saying how great it is, I can't resist.
When i was playing 'The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners', I became so immersed I forgot I had the headset on and when i was attacked by a walker I FELT THE DAMN PAIN I SWEAR. I only remembered i was in a game after i saved my life.
VR won't phase out flat-screen games. People said when 3D games came out that they would phase out 2D games and traditional sidescrollers, traditional 2D platformers. Thankfully, that didn't happen. VR is a new type of experience, it is not comparable to others, and vice-versa. I will never stop playing non-VR games, like I never stopped playing 2D games
I was playing that Richie plank experience on my quest and I was freaking about the plank and my mom laughed at me. After I tried walking off I had my mom do it, she freaked and was too scared to walk on the plank let alone jump off. Vr is truly emersive
I went from the oculus rift s to the vive cosmos, back to the rift s, tried the Samsung odyssey +, back to the rift s, and then to the valve index None are perfect. you put more time finding the balance of comfort and clarity than playing the game on all of the headsets. My first exp was with the oculus rift s which got me hooked and looking for better. the Rift S has decent graphics, comfort and hassle free use and setup. i wish i would have kept my rift and not spent money on the index. also the rift s is light. all oculus would have to do is bump the Resoulation and refresh rate up, add decent built headphones.
Here's a rule for me: I only like stuff like seeing my arms, having full physics interactions on everything, having melee objects that have the total "realism" in how the feel weighty, more "realistic" reloading actions, having character control and movement that interacts with everything in the world based on "real" physics, and other stuff like that, IF those things actually work perfectly basically all the time and feel great (as in FUN). If that's not true then I'd choose simpler but more responsive, intuitive, flawless and fun versions of this kind of thing every single time--even in VR. An obvious example would be having a reload button to reload vs performing complex gestures and actions and sequences to reload (or doing a "waggle" gesture like the Wii used to force us to do constantly in games): If the reload button is just far more reliable and accurate and intuitive and fun, then the simple button press wins--even in VR. And that simple rule is true of everything in VR for me.
Immersion is a dilemma of VR gamers (but a great one to have) because on one hand, you want to enjoy a game as much as possible but on the other hand, you always want to be somewhat anchored in reality just to make sure you aren't a split second away from punching a concrete wall with your fancy controller.
Speak for yourself lol I want to be IN the game as much as possible. One day perhaps we can put our consciousness in a game and basically feel everything there as if we were really there. If that happens in my lifetime i wonder who would want to live in reality anymore lol
1:33 What is the name of this video? I remember it being my first VR experience and I saw it in a Verizon store I think with the Gear VR. It is the most immersed I have ever been in VR and I nearly fell over from how real it felt. Since I got my VR headset I've never gotten to experience this level of immersion again.
This is from a 360 video called an introduction to virtual reality. It was the first thing I ever tried on my gear VR and like you it blew me away. You can never get that first time feeling back again.
Until a person has put on a VR headset in Resident Evil 7 or Half-Life Alyx they will _NEVER_ understand what VR is. The experience is so, so far ahead of playing on a TV it's indescribable... try it, folks, I guarantee you'll be utterly amazed.
As someone who got their rift yesterday, and played half life as the first game. If all other games are equal to or better then that as far as how scared and immersed in the game as i was, then ill probably put my 400$ investment down until they are
I purchased a valve index after Half-Life Alyx was announced and luckily got my headset a couple of weeks before it was released. My girlfriend doesn't really play video games but she really liked VR after trying it. She played the lab and beat saber and had a blast. So after Half-Life Alyx was released and me raving about the game she naturally wanted to try it and was really enjoying it. So we reached the part of the game where you first see a combine soldier she tried to shoot him with the shotgun from down the hallway and she died and I explained to her that the shotgun is not very effective from a distance so I told her to try again and this time to run up to the soldier and shoot him with shotgun up close. Now obviously I meant to run up to him in the game using the in game movement system and there was clearly not enough room to cover the distance of the hallway in the room I have my VR setup in. I don't know why lol but she tried to run up to the soldier for real and ran into my wall. I jumped up and asked why would you do that!? lol. She said I dont' know... you told me to run up to him. She stubbed her toe a bit but she's fine and we laughed about it for a while after. I still tease her about running into my wall.
People, i know, say that VR sucks because the graphics aren't as realistic as REaL games on consoles and pc. Sure, games like Superhot and pistolwhip aren't ground breaking, but i tell them it doesn't matter. Once your playing for even 5 mins, you feel like your IN THE GAME !! Now that i have a quest, i'm SHOWING THEM, since i can't\won't take down my Rift (4) sensor setup at home and take it out anywhere. You also have to realize that EVERYBODY gets over the initial beauty of the graphics (of any game) and don't even notice it anymore. Those who only have the quest, won't see how good the other versions can get. The Walking Dead, Asgard's Wrath, HL: Alyx to name a great few. It's the experience and how well it makes you forget that you're standing in a room with some funny looking contraption on your head. I live start people out with Richies Plank Experience. Even people who have seen videos on youtube about this game, know what's going to happen, but you notice they're STILL walking slowly, as if they are balancing on a narrow board, stop, lean forward to over the edges and genuinely act as if they up in the air. Even though they KNOW it's fake. It tricks your brain and that's the point. Even after almost 2 years of VR (Rift) i still find myself leaning over objects or wanting to set controllers down on flat surfaces. If a game can make a person THINK the object in front of them is real, in any way possible, then VR succeeds. It's only going to get better from here on out and i'll be along for the ride.
"Or accidentally punching your girlfriend in the face" Yeah.. Jeff from Half-Life Alyx got me in a frantic enough state to wack my girlfriend in the back of the head and she was NOT happy lol.
I'm an early 80's born casual gamer and must say the Valve Index delivers the goods! I grew bored of the Oculus CV1 pretty quickly (w/7700k+1080ti) because it was only slightly immersive (temporarily entertaining) and wasn't fully evolved like the Index. Yes, the Index needs a beast of a computer if you want high-end performance (120 or 144fps). One taste of the Index and my addiction began! I'm not rich but thankfully my wife approved of my new quarantine setup: 9700K, 2080ti, Next Level Racing Gttrac + Motion Platform V3. I'm impatiently waiting for the Nvidia 3000's GPUs because the 2080ti bleeds to keep up.
Haha, when playing blade and sorcery I'll often get tired between battles and lean on the table for support (which never works). It's not helped by the fact that in the game you appear to actually lean against it
2 weeks ago I saw all sorts of Samsung Odyssey Plus headsets on Ebay for like $250(US)Now they're all $400 or more. Wish I would've bought one then. I have my PSVR though. It's awesome. To say I'm a vr enthusiast would be an understatement.

should of also added windows mixed reality into your video at the begining, cause you can pick them up way cheaper about 150 bucks sometimes and can get more people in to vr a lot cheaper
Even though it's been here for some years now VR only has me looking at the future. Probably cause I'm a miser who doesn't want to fork over the dough for it in the present.
Whenever I nearly get fully immersed my brain says” WAIT DONT DO THIS REMEMBER REALITY, YOU DONT WANT TO FALL OVER” and it’s annoying but good in a way
video games on a console/pc are never going to get to a level of immersion like VR is capable of. even now that PlayStation is filling their controllers with tech that is supposedly going to be next level console immersion. they are also using their new tempest audio and sound is a big part of immersion. but VR is something completely different because you are literally living the game, and we are at the point where VR games isn't just a gimmick anymore. take the two most realistic VR games we have so far: boneworks and half-life: Alyx. these are fully immersive games that suck you right into them, to the point where you forget that you are in fact wearing a VR headset, i have never felt this while playing on a videogame console or even a powerful gaming pc.

When i pick up a sniper rifle, or LMG, i go to the kiosk(?) and instinctively i go to lean on the desk, only to catch myself a split second before i do it reminding myself that there isn't a deck there! I've lost count the amount of times i've tried to put my hand on the table in Racket Fury!
7:56 haptic face mask with needles xD
Jari Sipilainen what if you got pricked in the end eye
One of my favoite VR channels, congratz and thanks!!!!
Will you also be doing a seperate video dedicated to VR treadmills in regards to their immersion, issues and future?
Its an interesting topic for sure. I dont think anyone has really solved this issue yet. I will look into more and look at doing a seperate video in the future.
@@virtualinsider search up kat vr my guy
My main issue with them is the fact you slide rather than walk.
@@virtualinsider at least we are safe rather than falling and bumping to walls and closest to being affordable.
7:35 thats me. love me some vr sim racing. most enjoyable gaming of my adult life.
so true... i played project cars 2 when it launched, on PS4, and didnt liked it at all. Then i build my first PC and got a Rift S a year later and started to look for a cool racing sim. And with an steering wheel and the VR Headset, it felt a million times better. Its so cool and immersive and im already hyped how things will look in 10 years.
@@cr1spy_sea_m4n Yeah ikr, it's amazing. Can't wait. This new headset from hp, valve and Microsoft sounds interesting.
I remember my 7th grade science teacher had a VR headset and I got to play Robo Recall and it was insanely immersive
Boneworks, TWD:S&S, HL:Alyx, Pavlov, Beat Saber, Pokerstar VR and Sprint Vector are my favorite VR games at the moment. Such a great time to have a VR Headset!
Just found your channel and couldn’t be happier. Great reviews, and really well-written pieces like this about design. Can’t wait for future vids!
When I let my brother play VR for the first time he was so immersed he ran into a wall trying to run out of cover in order to throw a grenade.
Give him something like katvr
Some of the most immersive non vr games i ever played were the metro series and i really wish they would recreate the games in vr
Love VR. Was the nail in the coffin for most flat games for me. Where did you get the 360 footage of the elephants?
I love how everyone in the Vr community (mostly) is nontoxic and just wants it to be main stream
That footage of you getting scared had me laughing so hard. Im the same way
Immersion is a dilemma of VR gamers (but a great one to have) because on one hand, you want to enjoy a game as much as possible but on the other hand, you always want to be somewhat anchored in reality just to make sure you aren't a split second away from punching a concrete wall with your fancy controller.
Speak for yourself lol I want to be IN the game as much as possible. One day perhaps we can put our consciousness in a game and basically feel everything there as if we were really there.
If that happens in my lifetime i wonder who would want to live in reality anymore lol
8:08 His hands are clean and aren’t bloody. Impossible!
5:05 I love how you purposely said fleshlight instead of flashlight 🤣
Keep up the boneworks background music. Fucking love hearing that shit
7:46 - flight sims are cool, and Elite: Dangeous is no exception
This is the best explained, no doubt
1:33 What is the name of this video? I remember it being my first VR experience and I saw it in a Verizon store I think with the Gear VR. It is the most immersed I have ever been in VR and I nearly fell over from how real it felt. Since I got my VR headset I've never gotten to experience this level of immersion again.
This is from a 360 video called an introduction to virtual reality. It was the first thing I ever tried on my gear VR and like you it blew me away. You can never get that first time feeling back again.
@@virtualinsiderThanks for the reply means a lot!
When I got my quest and did the tutorial I set my controllers down on the virtual table. Dropped my brand new controllers from about 4 feet high
My first expirience with psvr was ''Holy fuck, where is my puke bag?" . And now? Boneworks is my jam
great content, just subbed. looking forward to your journey!
The best explanation of vr
Until a person has put on a VR headset in Resident Evil 7 or Half-Life Alyx they will _NEVER_ understand what VR is.
The experience is so, so far ahead of playing on a TV it's indescribable... try it, folks, I guarantee you'll be utterly amazed.
As someone who got their rift yesterday, and played half life as the first game. If all other games are equal to or better then that as far as how scared and immersed in the game as i was, then ill probably put my 400$ investment down until they are
this is the kind of content that's really cool to watch
Solid video, one of the better VR youtubers and only 3k subs????
Great video, dude. You touched on so many things! 👍👍
Hellblade blew my mind about being in third person perspective in VR as i where one of the many entyties inhabiting main character's psyque
Superb video buddy!
love the bonetones playing in the background
It has happened to me. I was playing a first person vr shooter an thought the table that was next to mw was real so i tried leaning on it
People, i know, say that VR sucks because the graphics aren't as realistic as REaL games on consoles and pc.
Most immersive VR games I have ever played are American Truck Simulator and Half-Life Alyx
I’m missing an eye and it’s still great!
I'm not rich but thankfully my wife approved of my new quarantine setup:
9700K, 2080ti, Next Level Racing Gttrac + Motion Platform V3. I'm impatiently waiting for the Nvidia 3000's GPUs because the 2080ti bleeds to keep up.
because you forget your room isnt big enough for vr till you hit the wall with your head
Many people really underestimate the power of vr, no one understands why i jult before i crash in a vr racing game
Love the Boneworks backround music!!
I like the calm voice then 3:41 comes around
Haha, when playing blade and sorcery I'll often get tired between battles and lean on the table for support (which never works). It's not helped by the fact that in the game you appear to actually lean against it
2 weeks ago I saw all sorts of Samsung Odyssey Plus headsets on Ebay for like $250(US)Now they're all $400 or more. Wish I would've bought one then.
I have my PSVR though. It's awesome. To say I'm a vr enthusiast would be an understatement.
at least you get to play re7 in vr. Not like us, the pc peasants
@@pjgppjgp I own RE7, but can't exactly get myself to go back and finish it. Damn near jumped out of my shoes the last time I played. The VR really takes it to another level. If my old First Sergeant had seen me, I would've never heard the end of it. 🤣😂🤣
@@gammasmash1924 I get you. I was scared shitless on Half Life Alyx in some parts that go total black with just the flashlight.
My valve is coming soon and it kind of scares me. What if I put the headset on and lose myself? I have literally gone an entire day without eating or using the bathroom while programming a game but testing it as well.
Very nice Video... you deserve more subs.
I wish a bough a vr before quarantine
Oh for real with the immersion, almost everyone who's tried my rig has smacked my wall and that sucker is a foot outside my playspace. I'll give them the full rundown to "stay in the cage" but in the heat of the moment they punch through it and keep going!
should of also added windows mixed reality into your video at the begining, cause you can pick them up way cheaper about 150 bucks sometimes and can get more people in to vr a lot cheaper
He didn't include the Vive either so don't think it matters too much
Clicked "like" and laughed hard when you're talking about Horror VR and punching Girlfriend in the face. haha :D
AHHAHA ronnie o sullivan is the world snooker champion and he falls over in the vr game! :D thats quality!
Even though it's been here for some years now VR only has me looking at the future.
Probably cause I'm a miser who doesn't want to fork over the dough for it in the present.
7:32 Is that rally driving from the original Assetto Corsa or Competizione? What track? The oversteer looks really realistic.
When I play blades and socery I got all out and accidentally knock down my stuff or cut myself by hitting a corner on a wall.
The next step for immersion is a full human sized field of view.
I could just listen to you all day, it is very relaxing. And what is the first background music it is so cyberpunk!!
Its from Boneworks, Who Am I
@@virtualinsider Keep the good work up. It's like you are talking from my inner voice :) and can you make a video about haptic gloves?

Gaaahh
So theres a new psvr controller coming right?
Should I get quest, or psvr once the controller comes out
Though the new psvr will probably be with the ps5
Is that the boneworks track in the background?
i like vr because i think vr can enable us to use our own skills like real life dogeing
man who woulda thought that being in the illusion of a real 3 dimensional virtual world would be so immersive
I ain’t gonna say anything, but 3:19.
Really good video btw!
I wanna get an oculus quest and going onto a field (when it's not sunny) and just going
VR inception!
Awesome 💯💯
3:18 he didn’t just-

My favorite vr game is Half Life Alyx
Vr brings out the inner demon, my favirite thing to do in vr is grab someone by the neck in blade and sorcery and then really slowly push a dagger through their neck. Im a fucking monster
So you mentioned all the HMD's except the one you are showing being used HTC Vive. That is also half the price and still holds the best tracking. But l guess it being 4 years old now means it no longer exists.
It plays Half-life Alex perfectly.
all the games i own are so immersive until... I SEE THE BORDER
