Gnocchi is knee-oh-key but you gotta say it fast. My husband has a SUPER thick southern accent (think Boomhauer from Family Guy) so I spend a lot of time trying to get him to speak so others can understand him! One time he was telling me about “Bouncy” and I couldn’t figure out who he was talking about. Turned out it was Beyoncé. lol! I swear I spent the first 6 months of dating him saying “Say that again” and “What did you say?” But after being together for almost 20 years, I can now say I’m bilingual, I speak English and Redneck. 🤣
Your channel is such a blessing to me! We are not food insecure now but as a child we experienced some very hard times. As a result I have huge anxiety about not being able to afford to feed my family, especially with current inflation. Since finding your channel I don’t experience that anxiety nearly as much. Thank you! ❤
Good job, Mama. Women are very resourceful in the kitchen. I love challenging myself by looking in my pantry, freezer and fridge. Some really tasty meals have come about that way. I learned from my mom and we weren't ever hard pressed to have a lot of groceries. There were my 2 parents, 5 of us siblings and sometimes our grands. It was fun and teachable. Now my kids are doing it, too, and even my grands thar like to cook.
There was 7 in the household when I was growing up. .my mom would make us bologna cups....they are SO GOOD!!! place your bologna slices on a baking sheet....place in the oven on broil...the bologna will cup up...then place some mash potatoes in the little bologna cup top it off with a slice of cheese..put it back in the oven long enough for the cheese to melt....and that's it. They are really good!
If you mash the potatoes before you add the flour, your dough will be lighter. Also, if you use potatoes you baked (or microwaved), they will need less flour and be lighter. Just a quick tip!
I didn't find out that our family was considered money challenged until I was in my 50's. My dad being in the military at one time only made $200.00 at month. My mother grew up DIRT POOR which was a blessing for us kids cuz she new how to cook her tail off. My parents had company the at times made sure they arrived at dinner and mom some how could feed us all. Thanks for sharing your life stores that accompany your food.
I grew up in a big family 10 children and my mom and dad, and when there was oatmeal left, (and I think my dad made sure there was😉) He would put it in loaf pans in the refrigerator and cut it and fry it the next morning for breakfast. We loved it with maple syrup. You can do it with corn meal mush too😊😊
Your hair is SUPER CUTE with the little braids! You are a VERY creative cook and you are HELPING people who are struggling to feed their families during these times of inflation and high food prices. God Bless You and Your Family!
Do you ever make quiche? It's a breakfast, lunch, or dinner item. With your garden and chickens, it would be a very reasonably priced main dish. Real men do like quiche! Love your videos. Thank you.
I agree with that. I love making quiche with my leftovers. I do this with my jiffy mix or busquick. I’m sure it is not the same but it’s cheap and easy.
Have y’all tried the gnocchi that they have at $Tree? It is yummy, not boiled but fried in a skillet with a little butter, it would be great fried in bacon grease! Serve it with green beans from the garden. I put packages of it in our Blessings Box with a serving idea. It’s a winner!
When I was growing up in the 90's my mom would buy ground cinnamon and mix it in the shaker 50/50 with some sugar, and we would have that on toast with some margarine and a cup of tea for breakfast. We saved the .99 cent Peter Pan peanut butter and the rest of the bread for lunch!
Great menu 😊. The reason your oatmeal has weird instructions is because it's a latin food brand and in Mexico they serve oatmeal watery like a warm drink in a mug, similar to coffee or hot cocoa. 🥰.
I didn't know that specifically. Growing up, my mom would fix oatmeal watery and then complain she didn't like it. My mom was born in a town with a lot of Hispanic culture that my grandparents adopted. My dad and I preferred our oatmeal thicker. When Mom needed help neat the end of her life, I started fixing her oatmeal the way I like it better and she really loved it.
I love your channel! It reminds me of all of the good parts of my childhood and current life. I suffer from anxiety and depression so every chance to relish in the feel good moments is truly wonderful. Thank you for sharing your life with us ❤
Leah, I am slowly recovering from severe depression and anxiety. I too have learned that cherishing every good moment, no matter how small, is a huge help. The fact that you are beginning to enjoy something is a good sign!! I hope you will soon be in a much better place. Wishing you the very best.
@leahrowe7275 Thank you so much. I'm having to learn to be proud of my progress bc people that were in my life shamed me for being depressed. I'm also learning to celebrate my wins (no blame for when I slide) I'm proud of us too. Thank you for sharing that. Stay strong, We Can Do This. 🙂🩷🙂🩷
I bet that Cinnamon Toast Crunch spread would be good in the oatmeal or if you had made a banana-cinnamon Toast Crunch breakfast bread pudding. Also would be good on a banana muffin or banana bread. Also, have you ever eaten hard fried egg sandwiches? White bread( not toasted), with mayonnaise spread on it with a hard fried egg on it with S&P to taste. My father would make these all the time! This along with a baked cold sweet potato or a cinnamon & sugar fried pie was his lunch he carried in his lunch pail for two miles to school durning the Great Depression. 😊
I agree w/Tammy. Your hair does look great! Brooke, you did it again. Everything looked delicious and for $6. You're the bomb! Have a glorious day and be blessed always, my Southerland Squad! xoxo

This is how my mom cooked oatmeal when I was growing up and omg it is the best. When I was pregnant it was one of the few things I craved and i would literally bawl dramatically because she didn’t live near me and it didn’t taste the same when I made it 😂 but it had to have cinnamon and we dipped buttered toast in it.
Omg I just made sweet potato gnocchi the day before yesterday! It’s delicious and surprisingly easy. After boiling the gnocchi I pan fried them with butter, sage, rosemary and some left over shredded chicken and cherry tomatoes. Added a little parmesan and I was happier than a pig in slop! ❤😊

If you had any cinnamon toast crunch spread in would be good in the oatmeal. Or even use it with the Sweet potatoes and make them baked and used as a cinnamon butter type flavoring
Hey, there are plenty of hungry folks out there, who don’t have sufficient food. It’s good to know that someone cares enough to show them how to eat on a budget. It might not be fancy, but it’s better than going hungry.
I always enjoy your family ❤️ you are a great mom you can cook for me anytime. My daddy was the one who made the best oatmeal and it's my go to we also make toast on the stove so much better. My love to you all ❤️

We never know what kind of Ryder we are going to end up with lol! But on this one Ryder was the star of the video for me he was so excited about that banana toast lol
Hey there sweetie, I see you decided to color your hair. I absolutely loved it the natural way but it’s your choice, no one else’s. Your beautiful no matter what!!💕🙏🙏
So great! You’ve inspired me to try making gnocchi I would enjoy if u shared more stories from your childhood like how ur parents bought clothes, when y’all are out, what y’all did for fun-these memories are priceless and important to record for all the kids out there!
Morning Brooke. Another great video!!! You should try making cavatelli....no more difficult than making gnocchi and they taste FABULOUS!!! And i must say... your hair is so cute that length!!! It looks great on you!!! You should keep it that length. You are too cute for words any way! 💚💜💚 And I just cannot do oatmeal. The texture just does not appeal to me. I don't eat any hot cereals. Just me. Lol.
Okay I first want to start off by saying I freaking LOVE you girl, you and I are so much alike when it comes to cooking and feeding our family.. Saving $$ is so important right now for us,watching you has helped me with that so Thank You.. Also I would have put a spoon of that Cinnamon toast crunch spread in my oatmeal 😊🤤🩷💙💜
Your personality reminds me SO much of my own lol I think that's one of the many reasons I find you so relatable and I'm here for it. I'm a widowed mom of 3 girls, life is busy, and I can't ever seem to think of anything outside of tacos or spaghetti anymore, let alone something simple and affordable, so I love seein what you come up with, and it never disappoints. Keep em comin and God bless💕💕
Awesome meal plan like you say bellies are full and no-one went hungry. We can't say gnocci either so I just call it donkey. Btw The Sweet potato donkey looked delicious👍😃
We ate alot of potato pancakes when I was a young child..my family always gardened and kept chickens, and we never ran out of corn meal or potatoes,so there you go..your son's reaction to the cinnamon crunch banana toast was adorable ! He seemed to really enjoy it.❤❤❤❤
Great ideas! Makes me want to run out and grab some Cinnamon Toast Crunch spread. I've never thought to make sweet potato gnocchi. I know when the Amish make oatmeal they add whatever is left in the pot into their bread dough. We do breakfast foods for dinner at least twice a month. Hope y'all are having a good week! Love & hugs from West Tennessee
I just found your channel! Girl you rock! I am a Tennessee girl too!( I am a Grammy though!) we love the simple meals too! I have never made knokie ( I can’t even spell the word!) but it sure looked good!
My kids always loved simple suppers,,especially breakfast,,sausage and scrambled eggs,or omelet with cheese and catsup,,,or tomato soup and cheese toast,,or biscuits and sausage gravy
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ryder so excited as when he tasted the Cinnamon Toast Crunch spread. 😂 He gave us a Brayden reaction!
I thought the same thing!
Yes he did!

If you boil the sweet potatoes whole the skin will slide right off ❤ I love your channel!
You are so inspiring to so many people. Keep up the good work!
How beautiful u look love love this new hair style and color on u hope u have a little date night hope hubby reads Patty D. Worcester Ma.
Nice! I've actually never heard or thought of adding butter to oatmeal.
Oh my, that oatmeal looks so good....oatmeal, toast, and fried eggs, good anytime of the day
We ate alot of potato pancakes when I was a young child..my family always gardened and kept chickens, and we never ran out of corn meal or potatoes,so there you go..your son's reaction to the cinnamon crunch banana toast was adorable !
You amaze me! Super creative and delicious looking meals. 💗
