Anyone who says acne stops when you're over puberty is either misinformed or a liar 😂
I' m 56...😅🤣😂
I am 32 and still fighting it bless me
I’m 70 I still get acne.
38 here!
I didn’t even deal with much acne til my late teens-20s. 😵💫
Yes Dr. Maxfield! “Drink more water to cure acne” is probably one of the most annoying and offensive things people can say. I think because it’s the assumption that you must have acne because you’re not eating healthy/clean.
You can’t cure acne but water does help with hydration from water helps with overall health
this! I've had a very healthy whole foods diet plus drinking at least a half gallon of water per day for the past 3 years. So being told to maybe change my diet or drink more water literally felt offensive as if I wasn't already putting in so much effort to try and be healthy
It's kinda annoying and funny when some people immediately tell me to stop eating chocolate, dairy and drink more water when I complain about my acne. Annoying because like I have never heard that before. Funny because I like the look on their face when I tell them I barely eat chocolate or chocolate containing products in the first place and am mildly lactose intolerant.
@@AFndjdj7373 “ water helps with hydration and overall health” that’s kind common knowledge
Also there's different type of acne
The amount of times my mother has said “it’s because your not drinking water” 🤦🏽♂️. I’m sending her this video….
The worst is when people say “wash your face more often” as if acne vulgaris isn’t a legitimate medical condition and just something that plagues dirty unhygienic people who don’t know how to clean themselves properly
😂😂😂
@@maenad1231 You're right! In some cases, like mine, it has the opposite effect! By over-exfoliating the skin with frequent washes, I removed the natural oils too fast which lead to a painful overproduction of the oils below the skin. I've found washing the bedsheets more often helps.
@@josiee0874 SAME!
Same when i complain to mom about dandruff and she says" u didn't rince your hair well 🤪"
I swear if I had a penny for every time someone told me to drink more water to get rid of my acne!!! There’s so many other things that go into it and my acne hasn’t stopped after puberty but it has changed and I’ve come to terms with having acne at times as an adult because it shouldn’t be shameful.
I was told this one too as a teenager, but it didn't work I had to use differin adalapelene recently and my skin is bad.
My skin is better.
Don't lose hope. I wasn't able to get my acne under control until almost 40. Your hormones will keep changing.
Do try Differin! It's the only product that actually stopped my hormonal breakouts. Also, use a soap-free cleanser 👍
@@Madamchief I actually have been working with a derm! I’m on retin-A. Honestly idk if period time acne will be going away any time soon (I’m in my 20s) but I’m much happier with my skin and I’ll take a few painful pimples over a bunch all on my face.
@@kb01999 give it some time. It's taken several years of consistent treatment for my skin to finally look and feel "normal". I will eventually have to work on the texture because of scarring though 😒
I drank water to help with acne. Found out it didn’t help with the pimples but definitely made my skin naturally glowy and brighter
Yeah because it hydrates ur skin
Azelaic acid is definitely an underrated ingredient for acne prone skin! Salicylic acid worked alright for me on active acne however azelaic acid is helping prevent breakouts to some extent and also working on the acne scars. Loving the ordinary 's Azelaic acid!
Thank you for sharing. I'll definitely try it.
Thanks for sharing I'll check it out!
@@mamaria475 did it work?
@@lenaphillips5920 u gotta see a dermatologist
My 22 yo daughter suffered with horrible acne for years. It was heartbreaking to see her suffer to the point of laying in bed crying, refusing to go to school or out in public at all. After three dermatologists and several different treatments the last dermatologist is the one who finally got it right. The first one prescribed doxycycline, a cream for her face and a clindamycin foam wash because she had it really bad on shoulders and upper back also. Her faced cleared up for about a month and then seemed to break out even worse. The wash did clear up the acne on her shoulders and upper back and she’s not had since in those areas. Second one said she had overactive sweat glands. I don’t remember what was prescribed but she said if that didn’t work then the next step would be a type of laser treatment. She explained the procedure would be to apply a cream to her face and then use like a laser light that will activate the cream and paralyze the sweat glands. The initial treatment worked again for like a month and then stopped working. My daughter didn’t feel like it was overactive sweat glands so went on to the third dermatologist. He prescribed Accutane and she has not had a break out since.
At the age of 20 she paid $800 to a dermatologist to have all the scars treated and just the one treatment removed all the scars. I do not remember the name of the treatment but it was an invasive one not just a topical cream or gel. I love that she no longer has to deal with the acne or scars. She is such a beautiful young lady with or without acne/scars but she could not see it and was so depressed over it and in turn I would feel like a let her down. I had many times I cried in my room seeing how it effected her to the point of depression.
Well, this comment is getting too long. Just wanted to point out that it took three dermatologists to finally get results. I don’t know why and I don’t believe it should. Just thankful that we found the right one at the end.
Also, wanted to point out that truly severe acne can have severe psychological and emotional impact on the person. Sometimes people do not have the means to see a dermatologist. My daughter started suffering from the horrible acne around 12 I believe. It wasn’t until around 16 that I had insurance & could take her to a dermatologist. So, believe me, when I say……..when it’s that severe most have already tried everything possible other than burning his/her face off and the last thing they want is for anyone, other than a professional, telling them what to try and/or do.

@anitamichelle04 - I must must tell you - you are an amazing mother. Just showing so much compassion and love to your daughter and feeling her pain. ❤️ I remember how my parents actually blamed me that I must be putting something on my face to get acne - because they never had it in their life. That was tougher for me to deal than acne. So god bless you for being a good mom.
@@MultiAurinko Thank you! I am far from a perfect mother but I do try very hard to be the best one I can be. I am sorry you went through what you did & did not have understanding parents. I know, as you said, that had to be hard to deal with.
I have and acne and im 10 i just got it yearly and u should take her to facial! I didnt my first facial ever and it hurts 4/10
Mention the doctors name so that we can talk to him that how he did it
its amazing how much I was judged for my own acne despite trying everything to reduce it. People can be so cruel and gullible believing these myths ugh
Yes! And trying to give you "good advice". Like, you need to wash your face. Uh, I DO WASH MY FKN FACE!. lol. I have heard it all. It's like, don't you think I have heard all of this and have tried it all, too? People are so cruel with their ignorance.
Thank you for this! I would love to see a video about acne post-30s. I’m 40 and my skin is still problematic. I think there’s even more stigma and embarrassment when you’re older and have acne because it’s expected in your teens and twenties but not when you’re older.
Totally agree!
So true. I still feel ashamed when I breakout extensively sometimes. Often cancel dates, bc I am scared people would judge me.
You guys are such a joy! Wow, I did not know you guys surpassed 1 million followers! Well deserved for the valuable info!!!
I'd love to see a video on dry skin with acne or hormonal acne!
We mostly get left out ☹️
Yes! I'd love to see that video! I always feel left out too!
Me too!
I'd so love to see a video like that too! I spent so long thinking I had an oily skin type because I had terrible acne. I used to make my skin so sore thinking it was oily and I needed to dry it all up when it was really the opposite. I put myself through useless pain because I had never known dry skin and acne even happen together. I can't really use acne treatments other than accurate (which was so helpful) because they are mostly targeted at oily skin! I've had horrible painful acne but always feel left out of discussion because my skin is dry!
나도!!!
I'm 55 and just this past month started taking care of my aging acne prone skin! I've learned so much from watching y'all! I have thick curly hair and put hair oil on each day. Since I've been cleansing properly and using Differen along with a complete new regimen today is the first day I can remember not having at least one blemish on my face! Thanks for the info!
When I get into a room of friends talking about skin conditions...... I feel so much more informed and educated ......all thanks to doctorly!! They all keep discussing about these issues....and I actually cure them! Really grateful for your efforts @doctorly
I 100% think that sunlight improves my acne! In the summer I’m outside ALL THE TIME. I wear sunscreen to still protect my skin but I swear summer is a magic time for my skin because it’s so much clearer!
Same! For me i think its because during winter my skin barrier is wayyy weaker due to the cold weather & the dry heating air inside.
maybe try a vitamin d cream during winter then
Me to! I’m a Norwegian so not that much sunlight since rain, snow etc and when i went to Italy it all went away, some visible pores but that’s all, I had no breakouts or anything, I didn’t even have my cleanser on just a sunscreen. When I went back home were it was raining again, and after a week I had break outs again.
Its also becouse of the sea, it helps heal acne
It's because the Sun dries up the pimple/acne and potentially kills the bacteria on it as well
Skin care myth to debunk for next time--people with darker skin tones don't get skin cancer! Please talk about this important topic!
Thank you SO much for talking about dairy being a contributor to cystic acne! I've had so many dermatologists just prescribe pills, creams, lotions, etc to no avail. It wasn't until I went dairy free that I truly found relief! I hope more studies are done in the future.
Wow it’s my first time commenting on this channel. I want to say that aside from all the info you two are providing, I love the energy that you both radiate as well. The bubbly happiness is what I always get from watching. Often watch before bed to settle the focus and everything, super great. Thank you for existing and be here today 🥰
I got reallyyy bad acne for the first time ever back in 2020 and thanks to you guys I tried adapalene a few months ago. My skin is now so so much better… thank you guys so much!
Same
Same!
Currently in estie school and learning a lot of these things but it’s so helpful to come home and listen to these videos on top of my studying. It really helps me retain everything I’m learning plus a little more. 😊 Thank you!!
I’m glad I found you two! You’re now my favorite video to watch, love the chemistry between you & you can be so funny! I’ve been blessed to never have acne but I have aged skin & there are so many choices of products to use & how to use them! Love you two!😂🥰
I never had an acne problem until I switched birth control to the arm implant. It was horrible! I would cry looking at myself in the mirror and took the implant out. It took my skin like 2 years to recuperate so I was low key glad we had to wear masks to cover my face. 😩
Yes! I started cerazette which is progesterone-only like the implant and my skin went haywire too. I’m glad your skin is doing better now ❤
Please put together a doctorly calendar. YES! Images of the both of you and derm tips for the month. I would totally hang it up. Btw.. May is my birthday month. 😘
Great video Drs! Thank you for sharing a discount code that is always the bestest. I’d like to hear more about how different tea ingredients improve skin and /or improve acne. Anything from green tea, white tea, rooibos, mint, and anything else missing from this list.
Thank you again!!
Can you guys do a video on closed comedones? I’ve been dealing with them for the past 3 years and haven’t found anything that truly works, a video on this would be truly helpful!
Hi Dr Shah and Dr Maxfield! Could you do a video recommending products for dehydrated skin? I have oily but dehydrated skin and I'm sure it would help many people out there struggling with the same issue too!
You guys always make such great vids w info + comedy 😂 Loved the “main thrust” of the video 😂😂
Hi Doctors, great video as always. Do you have a video on oily skin care?. What are the best products to use
I bought the Skinfix moisturizer and it never stays on my skin even when I have no other products on underneath. Thank you for the great videos!
You guys are the best. Thanks for all the great information!
Finally someone talking about B12 supplements being linked to acne, I experienced this and no one I knew could relate but I knew it was a trigger when I had nutritional yeast, and fortified plant milks.
You guys are so informative. Thank you!!
All the myths out there about acne is so toxic! I'm 28 years old and I suddenly broke out a year ago with severe cystic acne, i tried everything and it didnt help! Now I finally am on accutane and it's making a huge difference! I wish I would've just went to a dermatologist sooner and maybe I wouldn't have so much scarring.
Yes! Thanks for this video. I never had much acne until perimenopause! I was so miserable. Deep, cystic acne. (Perimenopause: the gift that keeps on giving!) Nothing worked until I went to see a dermatologist--and within 2 weeks I had noticeable results. So one more myth I'd like to bust--if you have really bad acne, more than 2-3 zits/month for months at a time, bad enough that you're in pain all the time and just really miserable, don't try to fix it at home with home remedies or over-the-counter products. See a dermatologist. It'll be cheaper in the long run too, especially if you have insurance! If your acne can be treated with OTC products, a good derm will tell you so! Also, Dr M and Dr S--would you include the citation of the study you mentioned where study participants talk about the most common acne myths?
Could you please talk about layering sunscreens? Is it bad to layer physical and mineral on top of each other? What is the deal between avobenzone and zinc oxide? Please! Love you guys. Thank you SO MUCH for all the AMAZING free content.
I'm 52 and I still break out and it drives me insane and btw you two are awesome.
Love watching your videos.
Very informative and sometimes hilarious. Would love to see you two do a video for ppl with acne and wrinkles
Love you drs!!!! Amazing channel! Great content!
Can you do a video about melanated skin? What products work best, details about sunlight or the best sunscreen to use, what different skin conditions look on darker skin than on paler skin. I just want yall to go into detail
lmao Dr. Shah throwing the Wakanda Forever sign at the end is epic. I'm here for it 😅
missed you guys! I don't have acne but love everything you do! 👏👏
I'd love to see you guys make a video about skincare (with an emphasis on acne) for kids. My ten year old is going through puberty and getting breakouts and I feel terrible. I started using Cerave products lately to get my own acne under control, but I don't know what is safe for her to use since she's so young.
I drank a gallon of water a day for years and didn’t help my acne until bha, azalaic acid, tranexemic acid, and tret 😂
Tret and yer done. It's that simple!
I have been using tea tree oil as a spot treatment. What do you think of that? Thanks for this very very informative video btw! I would have to agree that the worst is when people say you need to drink more water... However, it's even worse when these kind of myths are coming out of the mouth of a doctor and unfortunately I have heard such sh*t from doctors that often, that I stopped going to the dermatologists 5 years ago. They didn't do anything but make my rosacea acne much worse and destroy my confidence (by saying without even knowing me stuff like: "you should eat less chocolate"!). Anyhow, their therapies made my skin so so dry that instead of having the 3-5 small pimples I used to get, my whole chin area was flaring up with some still small but painful spots. So glad you exist and make these super nice videos, thank you for clarifying so many misconceptions about skin issues! You rock!
Would love to hear more about how temperature of water could affect acne!
THIS VIDEO GIVES ME SO MANY ANSWERS THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH
Adapalene has changed my life... It's like magic. I'm so grateful to you two for introducing it to me. (Apologies for two comments.) ETA: Cambridge Dictionary says that "thrust" (in this sense) means "the main idea, subject, or opinion that is discussed or written about." So it's not necessarily dirty!
How long did it take for the adapalene to work for you?
@@80sgirlwhamduran It was quick. I bought some for both my 14-year-old and myself (I have rosacea and he has teenage acne that was starting to get concerning and he was becoming super self-conscious). We started with the CeraVe retinol serum that they recommended and moved on to the La Roche Posay Effaclar Adapalene gel. Both of our faces cleared within a week of starting the CeraVe. It worked like magic, seriously. Once the skin adapted to the CeraVe we started the adapalene. We now go back and forth between the two products. Neither of us has changed any other part of our skincare regimen other than the addition of the retinols.
@@80sgirlwhamduran It took a lot longer for me. I had the whole 12 week purge you hear about and then some. That being said, it was totally worth it.
@@someonerandom256 yea I've been using it for 2 months now and my skin seemed to be getting better but then I flared up on my period. So it's nice to know I'm not the only one that's not having quick results.
I will stick with it
“The under appreciated thing about squalene oil…” had me cracking up. I feel like such a nerd being interested in various and specific skin care ingredients and then I become aware of these successful, intelligent and handsome men and how they’re nerds just like the rest of us! Love them, love u doctorly
Thanks for this very informative!! I have a question about SPF with these clients. What do you recommend? I have a hard time figuring out what works best.
thank you sooooooo much for sharing this knowledge with us ..
We get so much knowledge about skincare ingredients from your videos..thank you so much to both of you Doctors😍❤️🔥🙌
We appreciate you guys so much‼️
Have a great weekend🏕🍒🌷
I've had acne since I was 13 and still have acne prone skin at 38. I think a lot of my bad acne was due to the products I was using. I started using Cerave face wash, body soap, moisturizing cream, and now their retinol and it definitely decreased the frequency and severity of my acne. I definitely have worse acne the week before and the week after my period, I'm not on hormonal contraception so it's definitely hormonal related
My youngest son battled acne for years. Took him to the doc, and he prescribed Accutane. Poof. It was gone if a few months. The lesions have receded in the last few years, and you'd never know he had acne.
Thank-you for the knowledge
I’m dead 😂😂 Dr. Maxfield said “the main thrust of things” and Dr. Shah’s response was hilarious lmao
I used salicylic acid cleanser and it made my skin red and pustules around my t-zone. I had to stop using it and swap to Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, and seen the result for more than a week.
Really hydrating products improved my skin so much
Hi! New subscriber and currently benchwatching your channel 😂 I can’t believe I just now discovered your channel!!! Also it was definitely the Sunscreen videos that made me love your content 💙 this video is a wake up call that everyone should watch 😇
My skin was so bad in my teenage years. Dried out from covering my whole face in benzoyl peroxide, but I still refused moisturizers because my skin was still so greasy.
You have to use moisturizes If u dont do that ur skin will overproduce oil
This was me exactly. I also used straight up tea tree oil for a while 😭😭💀
Broo i used to rely heavily on my mom for help treating my acne in my teen years and she would buy me benzoyl peroxide but would never buy me moisturizer. So everyday i would dry out my face with that stuff and would wonder why my face was an oil slick in less than an hour. And i was doing this for a couple years…now i never take advice from my mom with skin health. And the annoying part too was my mom uses moisturizer everyday for her routine but never once thought about getting me moisturizer.
@@demiurge6-Same thing happens to me, my acne and is not thaaaat bad, but because I have oily acne prone skin, she said that I didn’t need a moisturizer, so she would never buy me one.

Yo I have a question does tee tree oil, actually help clear acne? When used with face wash products and stuff?

yessss more Doctorly!!!!
IF ONE MORE PERSON TELLS ME TO DRINK MORE WATER……😠
Love your channel
I would love to see what you think about face oils and how to apply them! I have combination skin. I’ve read that some oils are good for your skin and can actually help when you have oily skin, but I am still not sure how good they are and if it’s ok to apply everyday
I'm a victim of the "oily skin types should not moisturize" belief back when I was still in high school bc of my mom. Had really bad acne that would not go away and very, VERY oily skin, same as my mom. I found out that we do indeed need to moisturize and not only that, but that there are oils that help oily skin, which sounded counterintuitive but works very well. Told my mom about this and made her try moisturizer and a tiny bit of sunflower oil and she's thanking me for it now. My skin is waaaaaay better than it was and much less oily.
Same, I was overstripping my skin because I hated it and it just made everything worse for so many years
@@Marie-jz1qw this is really why educating yourself about skincare is important bc it can have really bad consequences. thankfully, resources can be easily accessed now.

I would love to hear you guys talk about Acne Inversa (Hidradenitis Supperativa) since it affects so many people yet its not talked about much! And some doctors don't even know about the condition either!
I hope you can make a video about Post pill acne. Im currently dealing with this and its really stressing me out. Hellllp
Speaking of LED mask: what’s your opinion on eye protection with the mask? And do they help hormonal acne? I’m using the DDG mask and maybe I’m just too impatient.
Hi, love all of your videos. Could you also make a video on fixing the droopy eyes. My mom is in her 50 and experiencing ptosis and area under her eyebrows is dropping and feeling like a sack under her eyebrows. Could you please suggest some remedies to prevent it
Can you please talk about post accutane treatments, maintenance and scars
Have you guys ever talked about "retinol-like" products? Would like to know more about that
@doctorly can y’all please do an eczema/dermatitis video including exfoliants, retinols and other sleeper products we might need to include in our routines other than a gentle cleanser and moisturizer? Pleeeeeeease
Hey Doctorly team, can you make a video on ingrown facial hair in detail with it's treatment. I have question, after applying moisturiser and sunscreen that is for combo type skin which I am, I still feel and look greasy and then I have to wash my face. Why so happens? Would appreciate any suggestions?
I'm 24 now. I've been to various skin-exorcists since I was 18. The one I went to when I was 21 told me my acnes will stop once I hit 30. My aunt used to go the same one & she was 38 at the time. I asked her if the guy told her her acnes will stop once she's 40. He didn’t.
Guess he just stops giving false hopes after a while 😒
lol

Hi Dr. Maxfield and Dr. Shah! I've been binge watching your videos lately. I want to treat my mild acne with Differin gel but I have no experience with retinoids, thus, weak tolerance towards retinoids. Adapalene has a mid-range strength according to your retinoid video, next to retinaldehyde. Is this okay if I start with Differin for my first try out with retinoids? How do I apply the product, whole face? every other day? Or should I just start with retinol combined with moisturizer such as Olay Regenerist Retinol24? Thanks 😄
Great video xx
What is your take on full body acne? I’ve always had it from the shoulders to the knees and my face has been clear my whole life. My arms and thighs are the worst. I think a myth to bust is that acne only affects the face.
Hey docs! Have you ever made a video about sweating and antiperspirants? (if they're bad or like myth busting) The moment I get out of the house to commute it's like I'm a walking dish sponge that had just been used after lunch 😭 I almost want to get checked if I have hyperhidrosis.
Hii i get that too! I live in France and use Etiaxil maybe you can try to find something similar ! It really help with the amount of sweat and the smell
Shoulda talked more about "fungal acne" because finding out about that was a game changer. I know it's not real acne but the people need to know!
That skinfix cleanser was one of my favs but they reformulated recently. Now they no longer say there is azaleic acid in it on front. What is your opinion on new formulation and can you recommend they go back to other formulation if the azeleic acid is gone and you think previous formula as better?!! It says online that it still has azeleic acid but I do not see it listed in ingredients list on the new boxes in store now. My Derm had suggested this one before too on previous formulation….
When you were talking abt the active ingredients and what they do. Can you specify which ones do witch it will be helpful and also a dry skunk guid someday plz
I went to my derm and he told me to not use sunscreen because it contained oil and would make my oily skin worse. I'm so glad I watched this video because I knew that sounded really odd, going to request a change in derms now, thanks for the information!
That derm sounds sus
That advice would be excruciatingly painful for people with pale skin. I use CeraVe SPF 30 AM + PM moisturizer, and it's significantly helped my acne. I'm glad you didn't follow his recommendation.
Hey,can you please make a video about fungal/ bacterial acne, I have been struggling with it for a while and cant seem to find a video about it. please include recommended products, Thank you.
Hi Docs - does your acne advice also apply for someone with eczema??
Can you guys do a video on allergic reactions to products? I bought a new condition that it turned out i was allergic to and my skin got so dry and red and itchy and it took like a week after i stopped using the product, cleaned all my pillows/clothes etc., took allergy meds, for my skin to return to normal and I kept wondering why it was going on for so long, how to better treat it, etc.
Thanks doctors! Learning a lot from your informative vids! I just have a concern regarding ‘maskne’. My skin was fine until I started wearing masks. (The country where I am still requires people to wear masks) Maybe you can give advice on how to prevent it esp for me who has oily skin and lives in a tropical country. Thanks in advance!
Loved the video!! The link isn’t working for the skinfix bundle though :(
Would you recommend Curology?? I’d love to know what do you think about it.
Idk if I've heard you guys talk about sulfer? I haven't seen ALL of your videos so maybe. But can you do something about sulfer vs salicylic acid vs benzoyl peroxide vs tretinoin?
I just ordered the skinfix acne+ cleanser after watching this video! but I do have a few questions on how/when to use it. should I use the cleanser every morning and night (which is when I usually wash my face) or should I just use it at night and then use my current cleanser (cerve hydrating cleanser) in the morning? also should I not be using my other acne treatments like my paulas choice salicylic acid exfoliator after using this skinfix cleanser? please help Im desperate.
Hey, can you do a video for dry skin/ de hydrated skin.
Thanks
Any moisturizer recommendations for less oil on the skin? Preferably seb derm friendly. My face gets more red/oily as the day goes on so Im thinking I need a moisturizer with salicylic acid?
Hello, I’m a little late here but I live in Arizona. Is there any way where you could make a video about hot environments causing acne?
Hi guys! Is pure rosehip oil ok to use as a moisturiser for your face if you have hormonal acne??
Thankyou so much in advance 🙏🏽🥰
Hello Doctor
I wanna know your opinion on good molecules discoloration correcting serum and niacinamide toner

Hi!Can that cleanser be used if you’re on tretinoin? Thanks !
Please do a skincare video for pregnant/ breastfeeding moms! I love all your videos but can't use some of these products because I'm breastfeeding and will be for a while still. I am desperate to take care of my skin as much as possible during this time but just don't know how!
