I've been contemplating the binding on my life planner and it's 111 pages thick (roughly 1.25"). I first thought of spirals but they just come in huge boxes, then those clamp bindings but I didn't love them. THEN I stumbled onto your stitch binding but I felt it was too thick for that.....then your other video made me look at this one and you are an absolute genius and saved my life from so much stress and aggravation. I have a notebook with these, I don't know how I didn't think of this. From one graphic designer to another, you're officially the first UA-camr I've commented on because I think I might be in love with you. LOL :)
I like to use the decorative file folders and pocket folders from Dollar Tree (3 for $1) for my disc-bound notebook covers and dividers. Excellent suggestions!
I've done it! I've found a way to make you're own disks :) All i did was take a piece of thick mount board and cut out a circle. Then, i used hot glue to draw around the circumference on the very edge. I did that on both sides then i cleaned it up. That's it! i used paint to make it look better but im sure you can think of another way to decorate it!
I was thinking you could do it with thicker buttons or maybe shave down some shower curtain rings? I might go play around with the curtain ring idea later today to see if I can figure out how to make it thin enough without breaking.... Or maybe even those 3d pens I keep seeing? I bet you could manufacture disks that way. Oooh! I'm gonna try making a mold with my mold maker clay stuff and experiment with some pourable/curable materials and I am gonna try making a green sand mold and cast some aluminum discs
That is the coolest freaking thing I’ve seen and learned about this year. Thanks so much for the video! I’ve never heard of disc binding until today from looking up reviews for coil binders and then came across one of your videos. You’re so awesome!
This is great! i wanted a top bound half size but they don't make it. I thought of making my own but don' t want to spend $50 on a punch. Now i can make one with a hole punch! You made my day! ty
It is my understanding that you can take punches out of the Levenger and ARC machines to customize the punch lineup and you won't have the edge marking you showed on your video. Thank you for this great DIY for making these notebooks.
Years ago I bought a Day Runner, but now have an Arc, which I really love. The Day Runner is so cumbersome. Was looking at Etsy for more personalized covers, and then happened on your site. What a lot of great ideas. Would love to take one of my watercolors (well print of it)--this looks easy enough to do with the laminate.
Thank you for this demonstration. As you can see by my date, I always seem to be late to new crafts. This looks like a fun thing to do and maybe for upcoming family Xmas gifts. 🥰
To avoid the half punch on the end of the cover, move the cover up in the punch (don't line it up with the bottom of the punch). I use scrap paper to determine where I want the holes. When I get the holes where I want them, I mark on the punch where I started the paper, so I line it up properly.
if i dont want the overhang punches sometimes i just use one side of my disk bound holepunch with the top of the paper in the middle of the punch, then i flip around the paper and line the holes to do the other side of the paper (if that makes any sense) i don't often put holes in *every* punch, normally just the top and bottom 3 or 4, so this makes it easy to keep looking pretty if i want it that way.
"Yupo" brand plastic sheets used for watercolour painting are a good cover material if you wish to decorate or paint your own cover. You can use alcohol inks on it or acrylic paint or markers. Double thickness is good for a strong cover and it punches well.
Wow, I wish in Brazil we had all this variety of materials... The contempt of this channel is always stunning! I completely love notebooks, but weirdly don't know what to write on them :( anyway, I love this channel so much
Love this video!!! Thanks!!! This can be cheaper and more custom than many options out there. Good disc punchers are pretty expensive so the hole punch hack is very valuable. I'd add could layer up like say two pieces of even thin paper (art, printed out, drawn on, patterned, solid, whatever) with cardstock between them laminate whole thing. FedEx store had a laminating easy kit I'm curious about; think it was just adhesive laminate sheets to stick right on and cut. I'm also very interested in what it'd be like to sew fabric covers such as pleather. Some things get more complex like if there's a zipper around it. Also I imagine chalk paint could work on discs. And covers and dividers for that matter.
I am sorry if this has already been mentioned but you can take the punches out of the puncher and that won't half cut the end one and then put it back in again. The screws are at the bottom
Thank you so much for this video! I've decided I need to DIY my supplementary planner to make what I want. As I was looking for a way to keep it together, I found your videos on disc binding and DIY covers! I can't wait to get working on my 2022 planner! 👍🏿😍💯
Great ideas. I just found your channel today , been binge watching. Good stuff. Subscribed during the 3rd video. I love the top binding idea for the disc bound notebooks /planners. Been using the Happy Planner system for 3 years now and I hate writing on the left hand pages because of the rings. Great idea to put them on top. Going to try to change mine over to make it top "bound" TFS
Your video's are always beyond awesome simply just love them I wish disc were available here in India as well I really loved those disc bond note books.
In a previous video, you mentioned trying out gluing chipboard to a divider ? I wondered how it went. Being able to make hard covers for discbound notebooks would really be great.
I'm actually working on how to DIY hardcovers right now and am super close to perfecting how to do to do it and writing up a tutorial! I will post it on all her disc binding videos once I've finished it!
Hi Jennifer! I love all of your videos :-) I'd like to find a way to add a hardcover to some of my favorite paperback books. You should do a tutorial! Thanks so much for all of the great information you share on your channel.
I made a pagemarker for a coil bound notebook i have (the double looking coil) in a way similar to disc binding (so i can move it around and not have it fall out )
Where do you get the disc wire and how do you insert the paper to keep everything from falling out? something like this would be great for art journaling because I could take pages out when I'm working and put them back when I'm done with that project.
I have used laminate paper as a cover for about a year, and it comes apart. It has frayed around the punches and corners because of how often i use it. I recommend either using heavy duty laminate or something else.
+tomgirl MKG I'll see how it goes! I haven't tried scotch but the swingline was a bit more expensive, not sure yet if that equals better quality though. 🤔
Thank you for the ideas! I have some disks and the punch, but never got around to getting/making covers for other notebooks. Now I really want to get the laminator I've been eyeing. Do you think the 5 mil is a good thickness for a cover, or would something thicker work better? I'm considering a macnie that can laminate 10 mil pouches for covers and dividers, since I tend to be rough on my notebooks and such.
+Sea lemon how about making a Christmas card, Christmas wrapping styles, Christmas planner or Christmas doodles. I love your videos and you are amazing and my favourite channel on UA-cam and always will be. You are amazing and no one can change that. Here's a cool insperational quote, always reach for the moon, but even if you miss you will land amongst the stars. 😊😊😊😊😊
Check the description for supply info ;) You can find them at Staples, online at www.levenger.com/CIRCA-326.aspx or at Michaels which sells the Happy Planner.
Do you use the circa discs or the arc discs, because I see both mentioned in the list of materials, and, also, will the arc discs work with the circa punch?
How durable are disk-bound journals?? I was considering making or buying one for my classes next semester but I'm a bit rough with things in my backpack and I worry that I'd knock some of the discs out from internal collisions with books and pencil cases.
I have the strongest Levenger punch but it got discombobulated when I put a plastic cutting mat in, and I had to replace it, so I'll use the hand punch method in the future.
When the binders are in a line on a shelf, discs facing out and you don't know which is which, how do you label them........never been able to figure that one out.
I’ve bought disc sets in different colors, maybe that would tell you which is which? If you don’t have discs in multiple colors you could also try painting them with paint or nail polish... maybe?
I tried laminating the covers, they pop on fine and if you are not in the habit of carrying your planner around they work fine, but if you carry them around they pop off and don't generally stay put.
SeaLemon/ Jennifer that’s beautiful, I have made that type of covers as well , I would like to make a DIY elegant cover now that I have been playing with. 😊💖🌹❣️ BTW I have been using the disc journal note books for a while and I really love them too❣️😊

Thank you so much for the idea of using the polyfolders! I've been looking at the disc systems for awhile and that is an amazing idea.
pls make more videos each week,i simply love them
Me too. There's never enough sea lemon or bookmaking from sea lemon.
This is great! i wanted a top bound half size but they don't make it. I thought of making my own but don' t want to spend $50 on a punch. Now i can make one with a hole punch! You made my day! ty
I'm overwhelmed with ideas now!🤩
The possibilities are practically endless. 👍🏻😁

I love that she's so creative and inspirational. keep up the good work!

I made so many crafts which are inspired by your videos and I like your videos very much
Her voice is so comforting

It's my birthday today!!
Cake Crumb Happy Birthday 🎈🎊🎉🎂🎁
Kawaii_Wolf09 Thank you! :D
The disc system is new for me, but I love it so far! I use it for clinical notes at work.
if i dont want the overhang punches sometimes i just use one side of my disk bound holepunch with the top of the paper in the middle of the punch, then i flip around the paper and line the holes to do the other side of the paper (if that makes any sense) i don't often put holes in *every* punch, normally just the top and bottom 3 or 4, so this makes it easy to keep looking pretty if i want it that way.

Double thickness is good for a strong cover and it punches well.
Hey! Can't you remove the last punch to avoid the extra overlapping hole? I know it can be done in a regular hole punch so was just wondering.
I love the cover ideas and the folder pockets... you're a genius! Thanks for sharing!
Wow, I wish in Brazil we had all this variety of materials...
The contempt of this channel is always stunning! I completely love notebooks, but weirdly don't know what to write on them :(

It was amazing!!. The diskbound notebook really helps to organise my study notes.
Well, well.. I will have to get my DIY supplies. You practically have everything. Excellent video.
These are so great!!! Thank you for all the ideas.
This is perfect! I have been wanting to make a note card sized one for a recipe book and this will be perfect!
Holy cow?? Placemats?! Why didn’t I think of that!❤
How about making a Christmas planner I would love to see that!! Great video!!👍👍👍

Great idea to use a small hole punch if you don’t have a big one or the material is too thick for the machine. Thanks!
I would love to see a video of how to make your own bullet journal, or even just of you trying bullet journaling :)
i really find this video helpful so much😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😐😄😄😄😉😉😉😉😉😉😊😊😊😊😊😊😀😀😀😀😀😀
I really like these ideas I don't have one of these notebooks but if I ever get one I will try this out!😄
Thank you. Really enjoy your videos!
Her videos are so helpful and interesting, but if I watch them near bedtime...I always end up dozing off. Her voice is so relaxing lol

Smart and creative 🤩🙏🏼❣️
I have used laminate paper as a cover for about a year, and it comes apart. It has frayed around the punches and corners because of how often i use it. I recommend either using heavy duty laminate or something else.
+tomgirl MKG oh no! I wonder if it differs by brand. I used swingline, do you remember which brand you used?
Sea Lemon Yes, I used Scotch. I hope yours turns out better! Lemmie know if it holds up any better, too!
+tomgirl MKG I'll see how it goes! I haven't tried scotch but the swingline was a bit more expensive, not sure yet if that equals better quality though. 🤔
I like the levenger punch, but will it punch laminated paper? I want to make a cover and want to find a punch that will work. Thanks!
What size manual hole punch would you suggest? 1/16”? Thank you so much
Thank you for the ideas! I have some disks and the punch, but never got around to getting/making covers for other notebooks. Now I really want to get the laminator I've been eyeing. Do you think the 5 mil is a good thickness for a cover, or would something thicker work better? Olivia Hadley yasss
She has a pineapple. She has a disk notebook. Pineapple disk notebook!
What do you think would happen if you put thin fabric in the laminate sheet through a laminater?
yay!!! you up loaded this vid that you said on Snapchat that I really wanted!!!
Would it be possible to color the inside of the pouch with sharpies and then seal it for a clear cover?
hello Jennifer I,m your 13 year old fan love your videos you have the best channel
where can we get those disks for disk binding....please help me out
Check the description for supply info ;) You can find them at Staples, online at www.levenger.com/CIRCA-326.aspx or at Michaels which sells the Happy Planner.
Do you use the circa discs or the arc discs, because I see both mentioned in the list of materials, and, also, will the arc discs work with the circa punch?
May I know the sizes of the disk you use? And maybe how much paper you can put. Thanks, love your videos btw
How durable are disk-bound journals?? I was considering making or buying one for my classes next semester but I'm a bit rough with things in my backpack and I worry that I'd knock some of the discs out from internal collisions with books and pencil cases.
Do you know, can I use hole puncher for punch holes to all to the papers?
Will the papers fall out from the ring things?
yes lol having a notebook cover that is just captain crunch!!!
Great video--great helpful! TFS!
Have you tried making a leather cover? I would love to make custom covers for reference books I sell.
Vicky Anglin I’m really keen to see a DIY discbound cover that doesn’t wrap around the spine. 😀
so cute and easy to do yeayyy, btw i love your hair golden brown colour !! XD
Abi Arkan
I can't find those green discs anywhere and I really like that color
Do you like the levenger punch better than the arc one?
Does punching through the tape make the punch sticky?
These are so awesome!! 😍
awesome video...i cant stop having more and more ideas watching your videos..how about making a nail polish video? or something like that???
I have the strongest Levenger punch but it got discombobulated when I put a plastic cutting mat in, and I had to replace it, so I'll use the hand punch method in the future.
She should make a business from her diy creations, who else agrees??
Minh Huynh yass
so, like, Do you have a ton of homemade notebooks from all your book making videos?
+Carley LaRocque Yes, lol!
Sea Lemon what about a Christmas Planner style notebook?
Sea Lemon, you should do a giveaway with all of the leftover books!
That'd be cool
I love it. great job
You should make a diy disc bind book or a small disc bind with buttons for hacks
keep up the good work
I'd really love to do this because I need to have some me time sometimes and relax to catch up with my self.
Who here likes my username?
Love this idea, thanks.
This is Really cool! I love your vids 💕

@@mallory1304 Thank you
Can you try a self-laminating sheet? I can get those at the dollar store but not sure it would hold up after being punched.
I tried laminating the covers, they pop on fine and if you are not in the habit of carrying your planner around they work fine, but if you carry them around they pop off and don't generally stay put.
Good job!❤️I LOVE ❤️ all your vids and you are AWESOME too😍😘😘
i can totally use this i love collecting photos and art works i can make a whole book out of it
Excellent video. Thank you
Hi, is there a reason why people don’t use vinyl foam backed placemats to make books.
Thank you 😊
Hi Jennifer i loved ur videos but can i get a video on how do make cover pages for project and diaries specially handmade and easiest plz
