At 5:46 when gluing the card to the old cover, that would have been the perfect time to sandwich a loop of elastic into the back cover, big enough to wrap around the notebook in true bullet journal fashion! Black elastic is very easy to buy from any fabric store, so that should be easy to find. Also, a pen loop might be handy to add to the edge, sized to fit whatever pens you prefer to use most.
Hi Jennifer, thank you for making crafting accessible to peeps from all income levels. I am always in awe of your incredible attention to detail . Your DIY never looks DIY if you know what I mean 🧐 and I love your willingness to try new projects. Thanks for keeping me inspired! Hugs from Sydney Australia (where it is currently very cold hahah)
The first two are my favorite. Love the idea of using the wall stickers to redo an unattractive notebook. I got some steno notebooks (tall skinny) from online that I want to decorate and your idea of putting rubber bands around and maybe clamp them while taking the spiral binding out is so much simpler. Plus using the thumbtack. Thanks for all your ideas (love the bag and the folder ideas too).
Just stumbled on travelers journals and so expensive and don't know if I'd like it so LOVE this. Ran out to Dollar Tree and just made it in about 15 minutes!! If I like it I'll upgrade ;) Thank you!!
actual beautiful journals that are true diys and are actually cheap. a lot of diys say they're cost friendly but usually aren't when it comes to tools and extras that most people don't have. not only that, the end result is gorgeous. thank you for this video
Gemstones cover! I really like the idea of using a placemat for a cover! I also love the idea of using cards as cardstock. I had thought of that myself, but had forgotten that the dollar store has cheap cards! I haven't gotten supplies yet, so perhaps a thumb tack will be all I'll need for making holes. This was my first of your videos ever seen, but I subscribed. I totally want to make a bag slip cover! I have a reusable bag I do not trust to carry things anymore, but I could use it for a book cover. I believe that will be the first thing I do from this tutorial. Thank you so much!
Love all these notebooks! It beats the costly journals and notebooks outthere. Thanks for sharing these great ideas! My fave was switching up the covers and the placemat book.
What great ideas! Using the shopping bag as a cover for composition books is wonderful. I also liked how you made a traveler's notebook from a placement and pre-made notebooks. You are always so inventive. Thanks!
This was the COOLEST VIDEO EVER!!!! I am SO not crafty, but these were ones that even I could do. I stumbled upon it looking for a book cover, and stated for the rest of the good stuff. Thank you and now I know covering my book doesn’t mean I have to make a trip to the fabric store. You are a suuuuuuper geeeeeenious! Have a great day!
Great idea using the wall decals to change the cover. Man, you have a well stocked Dollar Tree! Mine never has that many items on the shelves at one time. Loved your DIY notebooks and binding techniques.👍
I'll probably make a DIY journal from scratch. Graph paper in my bullet journals is a must for me, and I can make sure that's always a feature if I make my own journals. Thanks for the tips!
Your tutorials were mentioned in Reddit so I came to check them out. So glad I did! I love your videos, this one particularly because the ideas are so creative and yet so simple! My favourite idea is the one using wall stickers for the cover, the notebook looks amazing! I also like how the stickers can be re-positioned and how it will reinforce the cover due to the sturdy nature of the wall sticker. Currently I'm loving my own modified version of Midori binding. The two key differences are: (1) I just wrap a rubber band at the spine without the need to go through holes, cutting and then tying them back. I like it because it's simple to do and won't make the middle pages bulky. This does require a strong spine/cover though depending on the type of rubber band used. (2) My signatures are loose leaf. This way the pages can be replaced and rearranged freely. Personally I don't like bulky heavy notebooks so used up pages can just be removed. My favourite notebook is an A6 sized one for work. A6 is just an A4 paper cut in half and then folded in the middle. With my method, all I need to do is cut paper in half, fold it then insert them into my DIY notebook. Done! I love the semi permanent nature of it :D
The waterproof bag cover gave me an idea. Leave an inch or two of the cover on bottom, top, and open end for wrapping around the journal. Glue velcro to the journal and flaps to hold them in place and you have a completely waterproof the journal. The corners where they fold can be cut to fit better but I recommend leaving some of the corner uncut to fold over the journal for the best protection.
#notificationsquad #seasubsrule I love the technique you used for the spiral bound cover! I never thought to just add to it instead of replacing the cover in order to make it stronger. I also appreciate that you showed how to create the holes on the new cover without using a paper punch. Ingenuity for the win!
I love this! I used a dollar store place mat to create a Midori-style cover for my bullet journals a few months ago. I ended up covering the cover in a Star Wars themed cloth because I didn't like the place mat, but it turned out wonderful. I used it for a couple months and then stopped using my bullet journal. When I get back into the habit of using my bullet journal, I'll use it again. Wonderful video.
Wow it looks so easy the way you explain it. You know that one teacher in school who just made learning a doddle - that’s you. Great video, great channel, I’ve subscribed ❤️🐞
Dollar store DIY projects usually look awful but these notebooks are amazing! I usually skip right over the card section but now I’m excited to see what designs I can find next time I go :)
This video is full of great ideas! And it inspires me to think in new directions. These are great ideas for making Christmas gifts- if you would love making these but have no need for more than one or two, use up all the stuff you get at the dollar store and give away the extras you make,
I've been looking for a Madori style journal cover that I like & is affordable, but now I'm gonna craft it up and customize my own! Thanks for the tutorial!
Happened on you quite by accident - but what a PLEASANT one at that. Thanks for the great ideas. I scrap on a retirement salary so saving money is what it's all about. I loved the gem stickers notebook however all of them have me ready to go to the Dollar Store to try out your ideas. Thanks!
I've had this video in my "Watch Later" folder for awhile and just remembered that the town I'm going to today has a large Family Dollar so here I am! I love how you used a tote bag and a placemat for covers! And the gemstone wall decals are really pretty.
So many ideas *lovely*. I liked the idea with the wall stickers / gem stones in this video because it's so easy and you can save it with a self-adhesive book film which you can also find in a dollar store, I think. - The Flip On Cover, so brilliant! - saddle stitch and TNs also lovely!
I stumbled onto your site by accident and it was a happy accident. You did some good work with your tips and tutorials. I am a card maker and sometimes think about making a journal with what I've colored. Thanks, again.
Love the final one with the placemat. DT has a cashiers notebook which is larger and similar to a travelers notebook which would work well with that placemat tutorial. Didn't know how to do the rubber bands so this video is very helpful. TFS
Great video! I used to do my school book slip covers just like that as a kid to protect the actual book covers since we had to turn the books at the end of the year as best as possible to not get charged for the them. This saved my mom so much money since back home there are no lockers in publics schools so we had to haul this monster books back and forth every single day! I just used a thick solid color paper that they used to sell at school supplies back then (just for that purpose) and instead of glue I would just fold the bottom and top inward (sandwich between the book and the "front" or back "side of the paper) and make the whole cover in less than a minute for less than a 1$. This brought back memories and nostalgia for the back-to-school anticipation feeling!! And also relief that I don't have to carry almost 10lb of books daily anymore! LOL
Thank you so much for the inspiration! I love the fact that you used a placemat for the travelers notebook. Also the gemstone stickers are really pretty; hopefully I will be able to find a substitute for them.
Omg! The rubber band TN is genius!! 😍 I already thought to make TN with rubber band instead of elastic thread, but somehow I can't put them together. Love the gem sticker cover too. 💕
The last two were my favorite. I needed a scripture journal and the booklets and coffee placemat hit the spot. I call this time of the day my dose of caffeine or my wake and go...kinda like coffee 😉
the dollar store has these wonderful metalic pens and neon pens in their school supplies and washi tape. i eould love to see what you could make with their new school supplies
Your video was suggested to me and I'm glad it was, I instantly subscribed, I really loved all of your ideas and suggestions... I'm definitely going to be binge watch your older videos and I look forward to seeing your future creations... I hope you have a fabulous week ahead my lovely... 💫🎨✏📚✏🎨💫
What greats ideas you have. I like the last one because I can start using placemats and loose papers which I already have in my collection. Thank you for sharing!
I found this channel by chance, and I love it! I sometimes make my own sketchbooks and use the dental floss trick! I would love to learn how to make really cool ones!
Wow Sea lemon. Your are amazing. I can’t believe how awesome these journals came out!!! Great video. I really appreciate you showing how to decorate these dollar store items. Planners and journals can be so expensive for those that can’t afford to buy them. Luv ya!!!! I subscribe.
We are def. going to try all of these!!! Great idea using the wall stickers...LOVE it!!! We also use Dollar Tree gift bags for Diy journals...they are supercute! TFS!
I like how each of these DIYs only needed a few items. I feel like most of the dollar store DIY videos I've seen start off with buying half the damn store! 😆 Which *completely* defeats the point. And then what they end up making is often flimsy or isn't practical. Thanks for showing awesome DIYs that are actually accessable to people who are on a smaller budget 😊
I am late to the UA-cam party...Journaling party etc lol. but i have been making my own everything for many years. I am making my first Journal, and planner. I am also making my mom and sister one. I have my own DIY channel I just started in April si Im just starting out, Thank you so much for your ideas. After doing many videos and filming I know how hard it is, It is another job, but so much fun!!!! Im so glad I found this outlet for my crafty side and glad I found your channel!!!Merry Christmas 2019
This is sooooo crazy!!! I went to Dollar Tree today and bought a lot of stuff for my DIY journal too!!! I guess it's true that great minds think alike :)! BTW, I like the one with the gemstones.
I love your channel I've been searching for bullet journal 4 months they're overly expensive So thank you for teaching me cool ways to make my own you have in your subscriber
This is the first video of yours that I've seen, and I'm really impressed with the ideas that you shared as well as the caliber of this video. Thank you for taking the time to share, and great job!! ☺
OMG!!! Love them all, but my favorite is the last one with the coffee place mat!!! Or wait, maybe it was the tote bag cover? Lol ALL OF THEM ARE GREAT!!! Thanks for sharing!

HA... Dental loss is all I have been using... FYI... when working with minty floss for a few hours... do not rub your eyes, or you will feel the minty freshness smothering you retinas. I have done that more then once.... lol
Timothy Messer oh my owwie 😬 I feel like that’s something I would do (also more than once).
Thank you for sharing so we can know what *not* to do!
Timothy Messer 😆
Thats why you wash your hands immediately after you finishcrafting with the mint floss, and wash well with soap lol
😂
Timothy Messer 😂
I know this was posted five years ago, but I wanted to let you know it is still very helpful today! Thank you!
I feel the sudden urge to go to the dollar store...🤔
