This guy is impulsive but reflective, he understands exactly what he is in for and the decisions he has made, I feel that he struggles at making decisions in the moment though. The part that stood out the most was when he said "I cant be talking to my daughter, get caught lackin on the phone and have your head blown off" it really shows the situation he is in, he cant get out because of the commitments he made, his worth in society is now defined by the responsibilities he took on, and those responsibilities will tie him to this life until he is able to totally deconstruct his ego and get away from this shit. He isnt ready to leave, he might never be, its not a good life but its a life none the less, he wants this because its all he knows, and the thrill is definitely unmatched. All these interviews almost everyone has a very similar trait. Everyone is so naturally polite. They answer yes sir, say excuse me, laugh etc. This is such a perfect example of how your environment can shape you so much but at the end of the day we as humans all want the same thing, love and companionship.
The messed up thing is that he's one of the few people on this channel who had a good childhood. His big regret is that he realizes he didn't appreciate what he had when he had it.
A lot of y'all don't know what it's like being from South Central,(Here's what you don't know) believe it or not a lot gang members ACTUALLY did NOT have a choice. Some of us were forced into by way of protection from other gangs and like the brother stated better love and support than in your own home if it's badly broken and some of us gangbanging literally ran in the family (Moms,Pops, Brothers,Sisters,Cousins,Uncles and Aunts) so the apple ain't fall too far. Stop getting is misconstrued that a lot of us wanted this, if we were born in Idaho we probably would've been potato farmers..
I'm a 36 year old white woman from St. Louis and I know you're 100% correct. It all started with the war on drugs locking up families and separating generations of black families. There’s a lot of wisdom in this young man. I hate that he felt this was the best choice he could make for himself because there’s so much more for him 😔
You're so aware, my friend. You're aware of the trap you're in. You made grown decisions as a child and were raised socialized as a gang member but you're spiritual and deep and I feel it. No blame, total accountability. You're incredible. Those tattoos could be like birth marks; you don't have to keep identifying with them. As an RN I see the entire cross section of society and you are unique. I hope one day you can let yourself be vulnerable emotionally with someone, your child, a friend. You're too strong for that mask.
The smarter you are, like this kid, the weaker you are. He knows better but still does it. He needs to realize the way he’s living is actually the harder way.
That advice can literally save lives. If you feel like something is wrong or you shouldn't do something other people are telling you to do, leave right away. Stop letting them influence you. Just leave and never come back.
These are the interviews that people need to hear so they can truly understand a person's life decisions. We just need to listen and respect each other. Thank you for doing this to both of you.

The part that stood out the most was when he said "I cant be talking to my daughter, get caught lackin on the phone and have your head blown off"
it really shows the situation he is in, he cant get out because of the commitments he made, his worth in society is now defined by the responsibilities he took on, and those responsibilities will tie him to this life until he is able to totally deconstruct his ego and get away from this shit.
He isnt ready to leave, he might never be, its not a good life but its a life none the less, he wants this because its all he knows, and the thrill is definitely unmatched.
His reflection is admirable, he knows where hes at.
Very well said.
All these interviews almost everyone has a very similar trait. Everyone is so naturally polite. They answer yes sir, say excuse me, laugh etc. This is such a perfect example of how your environment can shape you so much but at the end of the day we as humans all want the same thing, love and companionship.
"I got whopped and then i felt LOVE" - Its so sad this guy doesnt know what love is

Most don't have a choice it's all they know as a kid. It's also VERY hard to leave a gang you would have to move far away for a clean start. We need more resources for those that want help. That advice can literally save lives. If you feel like something is wrong or you shouldn't do something other people are telling you to do, leave right away. Stop letting them influence you. Just leave and never come back.
