Ooh, additional fact! First ever mention of census is why Joseph and Mary were in Jerusalem. Also- coca cola santa is one of the most persistent myths. While it definetly had some effect to making santas look more uniform (with green, gold, etc santas being present), its an enormous stretch to claim coca cola is behind santas red look- if anything, its St. Nicholas himself, who is mostly depicted with red robes. "Yul goat" seems to be finno-ugric creation or nordic creation, as it is followed in Estonia as well. Not sure about Sweden and Norway, but i wouldnt be suprised, considering the cultural connection. Fun fact- in estonian its still called "jõulud"

This is somewhat true, in the last couple of decades, almost every major Orthodox church accepted Gregorian calendar. The Serbian Orthodox church is the last one to hold onto the old calendar.

The Bible never mentions how many wise men there were. I don't know how 3 king's day was even created. The Bible only mentions 3 gifts, gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

What I wanted to see mentioned is the difference between some opening presents on the 24th and compared to the other mentionings of them opening them on the 25th, 6t and/or 6th of january
Good video. Two things that need to be added. Apart from the Christian and pagan aspects there is one more large aspect, the commercial. And one can say that worldwide for most people it is a commercial holiday before anything else. And this is separate from Christian and pagan roots. I am living in Tbilisi Georgia. While it is a Christian country. It is Orthodox, which celebrates Christmas as a purely religious holiday. After independence from the Soviet Union more and more images from Western Christmas have arrived. But NOT the Christian parts, nor the pagan parts, only the garish commercial parts. Santa Claus, complete with Coca-Cola connection. Endless commercial Christmas music playing in the malls, which continues on into February. Lots of glitzy lights. None of these things have anything to do with the winter festival. And you do NOT see these images with any Christian symbolism, Christmas is too holy for that here. They even have a 'Black Friday', even though there is no Thanksgiving Day. Which is the very essence of the commercial celebration. Secondly, another alternative to Christmas that shows up more in Northern places like Alaska or Scandinavia is a revival of Solstice celebrations. And this is fairly serious.
Same with some Arab Christians and Albanian Christians. But it's quickly changing and becoming commercialized. I've always seen Christmas as a festival if money. The lights, presents, movies, songs, are all a way to make money in the winter.

Similar in my country (Slovakia). We do celebrate and decorate for chrismass in both commercial and religious way, but as for the black friday, in past few years it turned into sales on every friday starting sometime in november until the chrismass. Every. Damn. Friday. I hate this kind of commertialism. You missed to mention even an older celebration for the Winter solstice itself, which is based on ancient Persian religion of Zoroastrianism and Mithraism "Which is Called Chelle Night or Yalda night". Plus, there has been figures similar to Santa Claus in Persian New Year festivities "Amou Norouz". Given Persian cultural influence during the Roman, Arab and Mongol era and its vast expanses, it can be easily inferred that many of the Christmas traditions and figures are at least loosely inspired by Persian origins.

Now it is slowly shifted to 14th Jan. This is celebrated allover India with different names. Interestingly, in one region its name is still Uttarayana, which literally means northward journey of Sun.
It would make more sense if you had cared to explain why Makar Sankranti date shifted -- the shift from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. For Hindus, Makar Sankranti continues to fall on the same date as it always has, since antiquity because the Hindu calendar(s) is(are) luni-solar. And the festival of Makar Sankranti marks the (apparent) crossing of the Tropic of Capricorn by the Sun signalling the commencement of warmer times. The Indian subcontinent is sub-tropical, remember? So winters are short, just a couple of months, maybe December and January. Spring comes early in Feb. By March summer is threatening. April is hot. And May boiling! Also most of the Indian sub-continent has only 3 seasons! In former comuniste countries, Christmas tree is called New year's tree, and also gifts are exchanged for new year's eve. This is because during comuniste era religion was almost banned, so people adopted popular traditions for New years eve instead. And even dough religion and celebrating Christmas is again popular in those countries, those traditions still remain connected to New year's eve.
Minor correction: Kwanzaa isn't really celebrated in the US by the vast majority of African Americans. More people in the US believe the moon landing was faked than celebrate Kwanzaa. Putting it in the same category as Hanukkah isn't really fair.

Her presents usually consists of fruits and candies more tha toys (she puts them in socks that children leave for her). In the vast majority of Italy, before Santa Claus (we call him "Babbo Natale" Father Christmas) took foot, the traditional figure that used to deliver presents on Chirtmas day was "Gesù Bambino" (Christ Child). Some regions have different traditions where the presents are delivered by some else (like "Santa Lucia", which delivers her presents on Saint Lucy's Day to children in Lombardy) but are all usually seen as Christ Child's helpers (like Babbo Natale also is now).
The christian albanians have also some unique pagan traditions for christmas. Similar to the Celts they cut down a specific log into which they drill two small holes. This log then represented a guest and was fed food and drinks through these two holes. Afterwards it is slightly burned on the edges like the Jule-log. And later those burned ends are used to set a hay-circle into flames by smashing the burned ends against each other. This tradition is thought to be passed on by the illyrians, to the modern day albanians. This is only a small summary of this tradition called "Buzmi bujar"

According to local Nordic researchers, Joulupukki was originally a shamanistic tradition to dress up as a goat and become one with this animal. Some scholars also see in Joulupukki/Julebukker a connection to Odin and that the goat is an old symbol of fertility.

Furthermore Sant Nicolas was Greek from East Roman Empire not an aknown from a place that became turkey 1500 years after. What amazes me is that whenever we talk about the origins of Christmas/Yule, we really often forget that there is no single solid Christmas/Yule that is the same all over the world. But instead of just having one Christmas/Yule in common, which has always remained the same, we should be talking about celebrating a different Christmases/Yules around the world and that Christmas/Yule is constantly changing over years. For example, in the 19th century, Christmas ham was not eaten or red elf caps were not used as a part Christmas, contrary to what many magazines claim to come from Saturnalia. And before the 15th century, there was no decorated Christmas tree, contrary to what many magazines claim to come directly from Saturnalia. And basically the only thing that unites these many local Christmases is the Christian theme that has been added to them. But it is rarely strong addition because the purpose of Christianity has not been to replace the old but to recycle and reuse local traditions and feasts. In the Nordic countries, for example, Christmas has been celebrated as a Feast of light because the winter solstice is the shortest and darkest day of the year. Therefore, the "paganic" importance of light is still emphasized at Christmas over the Christian theme, especially in Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Sun worship is universal and the importance of sun and light is emphasized more near the north where there is less light and a longer night in winter. And according to local researchers, spruce was burned in the middle of winter as bonfire so that the sun would resurect from the dead and return again at the spring. Otherwise, if the sun remains dead, there would be an eternal night and endless coldness that would be worst nightmare of people.

The Germans left offerings in oaks for Wodan no Yule. The Baltics did this with pine trees as it was the most common tree in these northern lands. 6:23 ...And they cut down so many offering trees... any heathen is proud to see the tree standing in front of the Vatican.

@@wierdo-jc7xv New Year's in Orthodox countries is very different from a proper Western Christmas. They aren't even comparable. And remember we also have New Year's Eve, which is seen as a party. Similar in my country (Slovakia). We do celebrate and decorate for chrismass in both commercial and religious way, but as for the black friday, in past few years it turned into sales on every friday starting sometime in november until the chrismass. Every. Damn. Friday. I hate this kind of commertialism. It's the reason why i can't go anywhere for a quarter of year without noise cancelling headphones to block those annoying slogans and chrismass carols

You missed to mention even an older celebration for the Winter solstice itself, which is based on ancient Persian religion of Zoroastrianism and Mithraism "Which is Called Chelle Night or Yalda night". Plus, there has been figures similar to Santa Claus in Persian New Year festivities "Amou Norouz". Given Persian cultural influence during the Roman, Arab and Mongol era and its vast expanses, it can be easily inferred that many of the Christmas traditions and figures are at least loosely inspired by Persian origins.

In Hindu Krishna's Birthday is in around August(8th of Bhadrapada - hindu month based on lunar). In olden days, Makar Sankranti was celebrated around 23rd December. Now it is slowly shifted to 14th Jan. This is celebrated allover India with different names. Interestingly, in one region its name is still Uttarayana, which literally means northward journey of Sun.
It would make more sense if you had cared to explain why Makar Sankranti date shifted -- the shift from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. For Hindus, Makar Sankranti continues to fall on the same date as it always has, since antiquity because the Hindu calendar(s) is(are) luni-solar.
And the festival of Makar Sankranti marks the (apparent) crossing of the Tropic of Capricorn by the Sun signalling the commencement of warmer times. The Indian subcontinent is sub-tropical, remember? So winters are short, just a couple of months, maybe December and January. Spring comes early in Feb. By March summer is threatening. April is hot. And May boiling! Also most of the Indian sub-continent has only 3 seasons! From June, through to September, is the rainy season labelled the 'Monsoon' from a corruption of the Arabic word "Mausam" which literally means "weather"! Of course, lately these seasons have gotten skewered due to global warming, winters have all but disappeared, the summers and rains have lengthened tortuously.

We always put the tree up, and had a special dinner on, St. Nick...6th of December; then had a bookish exchange/reading holiday on the 24th; all hell broke loose on the 25th; down came the tree and up went our calorie count on Epiphany, 6th of January, with its dessert buffet.
In Switzerland, Santa Claus (Samichlaus) is celebrated on 6 Dec when children get little bags with nuts and chocolates. On Christmas, the presents are given on the evening of the 24th (delivered by the Christchind) in contrast to anglo-sachsian countries where presents are given on the morning of the 25th.
In Germany its nearly the same
In Italy, you should traditionally unwrap your gifts precisely on midnight between 24 and 25, or alternatively, if a child is too young, they'll do it in the morning of 25. This 'rule' is not strictly followed, but it adds suspense to children, who fight against sleep, in order to wait for midnight and open their gifts. How cute they are!
But you can give gifts anytime before xmas, in a range of a few weeks, usually.

In former comuniste countries, Christmas tree is called New year's tree, and also gifts are exchanged for new year's eve. This is because during comuniste era religion was almost banned, so people adopted popular traditions for New years eve instead. And even dough religion and celebrating Christmas is again popular in those countries, those traditions still remain connected to New year's eve.

Minor correction: Kwanzaa isn't really celebrated in the US by the vast majority of African Americans. More people in the US believe the moon landing was faked than celebrate Kwanzaa. Putting it in the same category as Hanukkah isn't really fair.
Here in Israel, ever since the big aliah of the 90s after the Soviet collapse, there's been a big uptake in 'novi god', basically Christmas morphed and moved to New Year's Eve, under Soviet rule. I love seeing people celebrate it, especially those not from former Soviet families. Shows the diversity and mix here, I myself have seen how more and more recognized and popular it's becoming with every year ✨

Historicaly, Epiphany is also pretty important in Italy: The Befana actually delivers her presents (or coal to naughty children) on the 6th of January like the Wise Men ("Magi" in Italian). Her presents usually consists of fruits and candies more tha toys (she puts them in socks that children leave for her).
In the vast majority of Italy, before Santa Claus (we call him "Babbo Natale" Father Christmas) took foot, the traditional figure that used to deliver presents on Chirtmas day was "Gesù Bambino" (Christ Child). Some regions have different traditions where the presents are delivered by some else (like "Santa Lucia", which delivers her presents on Saint Lucy's Day to children in Lombardy) but are all usually seen as Christ Child's helpers (like Babbo Natale also is now).
The christian albanians have also some unique pagan traditions for christmas. Similar to the Celts they cut down a specific log into which they drill two small holes. This log then represented a guest and was fed food and drinks through these two holes. Afterwards it is slightly burned on the edges like the Jule-log. And later those burned ends are used to set a hay-circle into flames by smashing the burned ends against each other.
This tradition is thought to be passed on by the illyrians, to the modern day albanians.
This is only a small summary of this tradition called "Buzmi bujar"

Joulupukki hasn’t been mean and evil at all, it was just a playful prankster who asking for food and drink, but if there was nothing to offer in the house then joulupukki made little pranks.
According to local Nordic researchers, Joulupukki was originally a shamanistic tradition to dress up as a goat and become one with this animal. Some scholars also see in Joulupukki/Julebukker a connection to Odin and that the goat is an old symbol of fertility.
Pagan is still referring to religion. It’s an umbrella term for non-main religion/often nature related terms. Pagan isn’t secular.

Furthermore Sant Nicolas was Greek from East Roman Empire not an aknown from a place that became turkey 1500 years after. In orthodox Christian countries Santa identified as Saint Vasilios an other important person of Eastern orthodox church. Saint Nicolas celebrated also in December .

What amazes me is that whenever we talk about the origins of Christmas/Yule, we really often forget that there is no single solid Christmas/Yule that is the same all over the world. But instead of just having one Christmas/Yule in common, which has always remained the same, we should be talking about celebrating a different Christmases/Yules around the world and that Christmas/Yule is constantly changing over years. For example, in the 19th century, Christmas ham was not eaten or red elf caps were not used as a part Christmas, contrary to what many magazines claim to come from Saturnalia. And before the 15th century, there was no decorated Christmas tree, contrary to what many magazines claim to come directly from Saturnalia. And basically the only thing that unites these many local Christmases is the Christian theme that has been added to them. But it is rarely strong addition because the purpose of Christianity has not been to replace the old but to recycle and reuse local traditions and feasts. In the Nordic countries, for example, Christmas has been celebrated as a Feast of light because the winter solstice is the shortest and darkest day of the year. Therefore, the "paganic" importance of light is still emphasized at Christmas over the Christian theme, especially in Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Sun worship is universal and the importance of sun and light is emphasized more near the north where there is less light and a longer night in winter. And according to local researchers, spruce was burned in the middle of winter as bonfire so that the sun would resurect from the dead and return again at the spring. Otherwise, if the sun remains dead, there would be an eternal night and endless coldness that would be worst nightmare of people.
