  • This is a VERY brief and basic overview of some of the main subgenres that have become associated with "goth" and its subculture. Being brief, this video does NOT include every single variant or sub-category of each subgenre associated with goth. Gothic Rock, for example, has many iterations -- be it Western, Operatic, or Folk-infused versions. There's a lot of material out there, and this was made by request of multiple viewers who wanted an easy way to compare some of the main subgenres associated with goth.
Much of the other information in this video comes from experience and years of discussion with friends and associates involved or interested in goth. It does NOT encompass the entire history of goth, nor does it cover every distinct "wave" (1st, 2nd, etc.) of each subgenre. It is a very brief overview for those looking to get into goth music. Take this as a generic guide or blueprint containing the key terms and subgenre labels to look for when exploring.
