The movie strays far from the book. AJ Cronin's description of Mary's flight after being thrown out by her father is literal excellence.
It's a shame that the film strays so far from the book in so many places, especially poor Denis being portrayed so badly!
I love the way Robert Newton grabs Dennis in this scene, he looks like he could crush him in his bare hands!
I haven't read the book but find the film excellent. Robert Newton is so slimy. He looks like the devil himself when he gives those sidelong looks.
he could go toe to toe with Frederick Marche's performance in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
It strays too far from the book its like a different story.
"Don't look at me like that", lol, how is he supposed to look at you, then? I mean, sure, Brodie is a douche, but you DID cheat on him, and he caught you, so you can't expect him to not be pissed about that
Not sure if Dennis is brave or stupid for talking to someone who could smash his face in :P
(jane thomas)yes the movie is not 100% folow the book but it is a verry good movie with verry good actors and perfomance
