I’ve just bought myself one of these with just over 110k miles and the engine is still smooth. The only thing I would say is to make sure that the safety catch on the bonnet is in the locking position when you put it down as it can rust or become stiff. I didn’t check it after topping up the oil yesterday and after only owning the car for 6 hours I was heading along a dual carriageway at 65mph and the bonnet flew up and smashed my windscreen. So just make sure to oil your safety latch on the bonnet 🙏
Bought mine- a 1.6l SXI sport hatch- a couple years ago in replacement of a 15 plate mini that was draining every aspect of my life. Fucking love the car, barely anything goes wrong drives really well, looks great and barely gives me any problems apart from general wear and tear. 14 years old and 99k miles and she's still fantastic
I love my Astra, it’s a 2008 1.9 cdti Sri . The shape of these did it for me, the newer Astra’s look so rounded and boring. The torque and pull on the diesels are awesome .
I picked my astra up at 76k miles for 1.5k, great price for a first car! Have had it 18 months now and absolutely still love it. It does drink heavy on petrol, the gearbox had an issue and sometimes the engine loses power on long drives, probably due to age but worth noting.
U.S. citizen here. I've always loved how these looked. We got the Astra as a Saturn, but only for two years and with lame specs and highly restricted colour palette.
Opel Astra has been around since 1991 in rest of europe. I have one, nice car 2006 model, 5 door version. 0.6 litres per 10 km is quite good for a petrol. 90 hp is slightly underpowered, but its ok.
Got the Astra in the US badged as a Saturn Astra XR. 3 door. We could only have the ~140 hp engine (just like the SRi version) but not the VXR. It had the best handling in its class and a peppy engine. Beautiful car inside and out.
Thanks for the review I still have a 2007 sri 1.8 which I bought in 2018, 93,000 miles on it now but was only £1,350 back then, maybe a bit dated now in 2022 but adequate for the state of roads these days, and is not too bad on performance with sport mode on,gets you to a hundred in reasonable time on a quite morning.
The gearbox issues were caused by wrong oil fitted at factory ,I dropped mine and never had issues ,if you thrash em they will die ,the 1.8vvt is virtually bulletproof separate cam belt from water pump.Apart from coilpacks they are a good solid engine ,change oil every 5k to keep vvt in great condition
Good review, had my 59 reg for 8 years. Tbh it's been a good daily driver. 1.8 petrol can be a bit thirsty, alas it's probably going to go this year. I will miss it. Never kept a car so long lol!!!!
I just bought a 1.6t Sri for £650, it’s got the common gearbox whine issues and I’ll probably address that soon but it’s a tidy car with 19 inch Bola alloys with brand new tyres on it which are worth more than the car cost me. Power flow back box/decat (got the receipt for £600) induction kit on it and coil overs. Moted until dec
Been looking after my daughter's 1.6 petrol since August and driven it all over the country. Really nice car to drive and it really takes a back road apart well. I've been very pleasantly surprised. Compares favourably with her previous mk1 focus 1.6 which I passed on to her, a car I love, the mk 1 focus.... Focus a bit more fun but Astra corners flatter imo
I have a 2008 114k miles but it still feels tight as a drum. Needs a 6th gear, sits at 75-85 mph at around 4-4500 rpm I always feel the urge to drop it into 6th which it doesn't have so it's a bit thirsty and noisy as a result on motorway drives. Mine has a sport button and other than an ever so slightly more instant throttle response it's completely useless at the cost of even more fuel, I call it the would you like to empty your tank for no reason button, great little car, don't bother with sport mode, needs a 6th gear.
Had a Manta GTE coupe back in the day as we were a Vauxhall/Opel family as it were. I want to like Vauxhalls again but they seem to have been swept aside by the competition (German) maybe I should take a closer look at them! Agree this Astra has a good shape.
I loved the Astra GTE’s from the late -80’s with the digital dash and do think they lost their way then, but this generation 5 really surprised me. It’s not fast, but quick enough for daily driving, surprising practical and the handling felt sharp and crisp.
So I’ve just bought a 1.6 Astra (2008) petrol, and it’s absolutely gutless. Has hardly any acceleration at all. Is this normal? Am I somehow missing something? Or am I just too used to my previous 2.0 bmw. Thanks and great video!
Neat video just had a mk5 on my channel. Love vauxhalls old and new. Always had a soft spot for mk5 sri models i Always called this colour platinum such an unappreciated colour but i love it.
Had my Sri for two years & half years 👍😊 Nice car until it starts to go wrong 😳 Rubbish gearboxes but what finished mine was the fusebox & Christmas lights dashboard. 🤔
I have the 5 door one with the body kit on. Still love it but I'm selling mine😪. very cheap to fix and run and mine still drives and pulls perfectly.. but as they always say look after them and they will look after you... I will miss her. 😢
Isuzu engine you’ll be fine it’ll last forever common faults are SCV valve and injectors can be a weak point on them but otherwise very reliable engine
and in all the door pockets theres cup holders love these cars taking mine of the road this year to preserve it as the current one i have is the best astra ive had yet mines a 5door x pack with powerflow backbox and lowered in black i think they are gorgeus looking cars and in my opinion would piss all over any other car in its class

I have a Astra SRi for about 3 weeks now. 1.7 diesel engine. Very economical and when in sport mode it’s fantastic
I had one from 2010-2015 (1.8 Sri xp) and loved it, so much so I’m here looking at vids of them.
You refer to all the things that I also value - all boxes ticked. You've reassured me, thanks you mate!

Still one of the best looking cars i have seen, Vauxhall nailed it with this
Had mine for 11 years now. I still love it even if it is getting quite old now and has 125k miles on the clock 😁

Had my sri since new 2010 never had a problem with her, like the guy says i especially like the look of the car 👍

I've got the 1.9 cdti Sri , Mapped to 200 hp, It surprises a few people who want to give it a go 🤣
Hello, how reliable are these engines while stock?
@@tomgambrill2447 I think those are not too bad. It’s the 1.3d that might be a bit iffy I think.
Mines 190 and it surprises me still 😂

The two door mk5 Astra is the best looking Astra
they need to remake this
@@uzair_7151 Have you seen the very new mk8, very very sexy car
I bought my Astra SRI 1.8 over a year ago, as an automatic and it’s the best car I’ve owned!
Does it consume a lot ?
Just picked a cdti Sri 150 xpack up on 47k with FSH, honestly drives like new. One of the few cars I've wanted to keep long term
I've just bought an astra h 1.6T 3 door and i love it

The f17 gearboxes can wear easily. But it may just be the linkage on its way out. Mine has an issue with second gear.
Isn’t the M32 the weak box
Got an Astra VXR (H) on 55k miles (Stage 1) and i'm never talking shit about Vauxhalls again.
Awesome i have a 55 plate astra elite with 180k on the clock .I bought her when she was a year old still drive as good from the day i got her...
Really well done thank you very informative enjoyed this

The german cars are expensive when something does go wrong and their parts are expensive to fix compared to Astra budget parts
So I’ve just bought a 1.6 Astra (2008) petrol, and it’s absolutely gutless. Has hardly any acceleration at all. Is this normal? Am I somehow missing something? Or am I just too used to my previous 2.0 bmw. Thanks and great video!
Great video!
Hope to see the channel grow :D
Thanks David - growing slowly but really enjoy making the videos so see where they take me 👍🏻
I've owned a Mk4 Astra, two Mk5s, a Mk6, and am currently driving a 1.6T 200 bhp Mk7, and my Wife drives a modded 220 bhp Mk6 Diesel.
You quite like the Astra then? 😂
Great video. Stand still though.
Neat video just had a mk5 on my channel. Love vauxhalls old and new. Always had a soft spot for mk5 sri models i Always called this colour platinum such an unappreciated colour but i love it.
I have a white one of these. Brilliant car.
Does it have bluetoth
Sorry I can’t re-call but I doubt it
Had my Sri for two years & half years 👍😊 Nice car until it starts to go wrong 😳 Rubbish gearboxes but what finished mine was the fusebox & Christmas lights dashboard. 🤔
The SRi really impressed me the way it drove, only spoilt by the awful gear change.

Buying mine tonight 😁.
Its an ok car. Looking at buying one

Hi are these sri's turbocharged?
No
@@FastandFun Alright thanks, am I right in thinking there is a varient that is?
Hi would it be safe to buy a 1.7 Sri diesel at 187,000 mile
Your guess is as good as mine - that’s a lot of miles. I’d expect it to be very cheap 👍🏻
Isuzu engine you’ll be fine it’ll last forever common faults are SCV valve and injectors can be a weak point on them but otherwise very reliable engine

Change your gearbox oil and you'll find the change a lot better.
please remake this astra model
Just the one cup holder unfortunately, at the back of the handbrake. My main disappointment with the interior.

@@robindeans1934 have you got a pic of it bro. Also want to get mine lowered
Best quotes i get for this car are around £5,000 to £7,000.
If i put my mum with 25+ year driving as a named driver my quote is £3,500
That is ridiculous ….. feel for you!
Those prices are a bit higher now what with the chronic used car shortage.
I wrote mine off at 114k 40mph into a tree 😟😢 iv never been so upset to lose a car
Theyre starting to look dated now. Looked good up to 2020.
you should of got the sxi lol
Or get a fn2 with battered bodywork for £2000...that will be bullet proof and piss all over all ov them town driving
