Did they ever give a reason why they are running two mono scroll turbos instead of two twin scroll turbos? If they are wanting to reduce lag wouldn't the dual twin scroll turbos be able to further reduce turbo lag?
I remember reading since they are running electric wastegates they can utilize programming anti-lag system is designed to reduce turbo lag by maintaining turbocharger spool during rapid throttle changes. This is achieved by keeping the turbine spinning even when the throttle is lifted, ensuring quick boost recovery. It adapts to driving style, optimizing power delivery in high-performance scenarios. While specifics for the ZR1 aren't fully detailed, typical anti-lag systems use strategies like ignition timing retardation or bypass air flow to keep the turbos active without creating significant stress on the engine.
@geerstyresoil3136 I see I knew there was an anti lag system installed. I just figured utilizing a dual twin scroll setup would be more beneficial than the dual mono scroll setup that they are using. Mostly knew to the turbocharged world. Been mostly driving na engines for most of my life so I just figured using the twin scroll would have been a better option.
yes it does seem strange, but i think the problem with Twin Scroll is ultimately on the top end (since TS is an optimization for low end response on the street). at the top end (like when you're going for a rating of 1064hp) Twin Scroll acts a restriction, which is why you generally don't see it used in Motorsports and Racing (think Drift, Lemans, F1, etc) where the whole point is to spend as much time as possible at WOT. it's very similar then to the idea of fitting a Close Ratio Transmission where you optimize gears 3, 4, 5, 6 and ignore 1st and 2nd, because ideally 1st and 2nd are only used at the start of the race, and never engaged again until after the checkers.
GM, Honda, BMW and Porsche are engine builders. They sell in mass and they do it well. These are the fantastic 4 that Savage Geese focus on and enjoy to discuss because they have a better engineering culture then other manufactures.
SWEET machine. I hope GM never goes away. the corvette is pure american beauty, every inch. sure, mclaren, ferrari & Lambo can make beautiful, fast, well handling track cars too... but GM does it at 1/4th the price and no $5000 oil changes or $20k fuel cell changes. what a sweet running car.
In the transmission section of the video, Dustin mentions the transmission possesses the same gear ratios as the Z06.. I wonder if the overwhelming power advantage / low end torque of the Zr1 will negate the long 5th gear issue the Z06 had at the Nürburgring
In the Chevrolet Pressrom it says the engine output is 1064hp/873 kW at 7000 rpm. Except, 1 kW is 1.34 hp, so that would mean 1170 hp. Conversely, 1064hp, where one hp equals 0.7457 kW, would mean 793.4 kW. Either way, one number stated is wrong. It could be a typo...
