Wow this has helped me understand how i can help my child , i just find out I’m HSP and so i believe my first boy is HSP as well i have to be more patient with him, and teach my husband about this as well. Thank you and God bless you and keep your soul
It is with great sorrow that I must post that Dr. Zeff has passed. This will not affect the posting of his work by me. But it is a great loss. RIP, Ted.
@Kees Koek I have never heard of any link between blood types and being an HSP, or for that matter, any study involving the two. HSP studies are often about genetics. It's like studying what color eyes you have, or your hair color. These come in all blood types.
Thankyou Dr Zeff I really appreciate your coverage on this Topic. You explain and understand clearly The Highly Sensitive Child. I know this personally having experienced first hand being The Highly Sensitive Child.
My child would shut down if to hard on him from school many times I homeschooled because was told there are to many kids like this not enough teachers so we homeschooled. My kids got bullied had many of my kids that are high sensitive. We were always at school over bullying so we homeschooled it was better for our family. They excelled and anxiety lowered when homeschooled where in 4H church boy scouts they got to study many things they were passionate about. We also had co op homeschool get together weekly and threw the summer more and field trips.
Taught to go after emotion, 1000 years not to confuse all the way back what going after emotion has manifested into today I am sensitive and so many attempts on my life for being hsp I can't hold on to anyone or myself from the nothing storm in canada and dreaming isn't going to make the storm go away 😭 🤗
I can appreciate what you are saying. I think that the title is misleading. It seems to me that you were focusing on boys and not just the characteristics of highly sensitive children.
You are not far off in your comment. Dr. Zeff studies HSBs. But a lot of what he says applies to girls too. That is why I made it a point to include photos of girls in the video too. The title is his.
When I read The Strong Sensitive Boy, I found myself there so much! Maybe since I grew up on a ranch in Oklahoma I relate, but I often recommend my HSP clients read both Dr. Zeff's book and the Highly Sensitive Child by Elaine Aron to work on reframing their childhood. I can be found on my own UA-cam channel, Alane Freund LMFT
Do not have children, agree with some of the parenting principles for highly sensitive children, yet worry about the idea of isolating the sensitive child from engaging and interacting with other fellow humans in a normal manner(the idea of over protecting the child)- does a child not grow in mind and personality through optimal adversity and dealing with the real world (which they will have to face at some stage, unless coddled throughout adulthood)? Unless the child has other personality traits such as autism, surely they will thrive either way in normal life, with proper/healthy supportive parenting. Main question: can this parenting style overemphasised also be counterproductive?
Oliver Schubert it’s important to understand a very key point about sensitivity as described here. Sensitivity in this context is not merely an emotional or psychological issue, or one that developed due to a trauma or other external condition, which may “improve” or adapt to social norms via socialization, adversity, challenge, etc. This type of sensitivity is physiological. It is not a weakness , maladaptation or defect. The nervous system in highly sensitive individuals is made with hyper acuteness. The role of HSPs In society is of great value and sensitivity needs to be nurtured accordingly. This nurturing has nothing to do with being “pampered” or given special privilege. It needs what it needs, just as many forms of life need what they need in order to be productive and flourish, not merely survive. (We are willing to provide our plants, cars, electronics, pets etcetc with whatever their individual needs are. Why would we not give the same consideration to our humans? ) The nervous system in HSPs is hyper sensitive. It is on high alert. It has highly aware “feelers” and very few filters to protect it from damage. Only the person can protect himself by avoiding things that cause stress on his system. . This condition does not improve , adapt, alter from exposure to taxing elements any more than a diabetic improves when given high doses of sugar, or forcing someone with a broken leg to continue running , for example. The long held belief that all positive traits emerge under adversity is incorrect. Especially for high sensitive nervous systems. In fact there is research now that points to some illnesses resulting from high sensitive exposure to too much stress. Especially the stress and pressure to conform to non sensitive behavior and environment. I strongly suggest you read Elaine Aron’s books on sensitivity. Btw... I am an hSP and can vouch for the need for awareness and the appropriate “ training” of children who are highly sensitive. Unless you have a hyper sensitive system you can’t imagine the actual suffering of exposure to certain elements. Being more exposed does NOT “fix” this. It does physiological damage to the body. Ie.. stress response being put into chronic high alert is often linked now to autoimmune diseases.
@@penelopelambson9128 thank you for your feedback I am just learning I have a sensitive child and I am worry about her future, how much support can I get? For example from schools and social security, in case she will need it.
This is me, 100%. I still feel twelve and i love it, now as a highly sensitive adult. Thank you for this informative and interesting talk;-)
This is amazing! You described my son exactly. I learned so much from this.

I'm Sorry 😪 to hear this Dearest Soul Sister.
LOVE You 😘
What about heritability ?
Are two HSPs likely to have more than a 20% chance of any one child being HSP ?
I have not finish listening to this video but I already learn so much. Thanks so much for sharing.
Glad i found this video. Much appreciation!

Thank you so much for this wonderful and informative video.
Fantastic video
Quite informative and very helpful.
As a highly sensitive person myself, I find that the loud blaring ringtone of a bell in between statements very alarming and unnerving.
Yes! Thank you haha
FWIW, an HSP edited the video. Your response gives a good example of the HSP sensitivity spectrum.
Yes.💕

Sorry, UA-cam does not have an option to allow downloading.
My mother violated every single recommendation with me as a kid. I am a very angry adult.
I have hsp and now realise my 4 year old boy has it to. I feel so quilty. He is struggling at school now as well 😞
I think that Elaine Aron's book "The Highly Sensitive Child" might be a big help to you.
Is try thank you good for m senstiv🤗
I do wish that I knew to do the right thing with my daughter
Elaine Aron has written "The Highly Sensitive Child". That might well help you. I hope so.
I am an HSP and also a genius. I got my Masters degree from UCLA
Humble too.

The key is "proper/healthy supportive parenting"..

@Kees Koek thank you for your response it gives me hope to know there is more people like my daughter.
Honesty I watch this can’t help feeling resentment toward my parents
Is he just reading Elaine's book? I used to own her book, do not have it now.. just should have been called reading it!!
No,, he's not. But he knew Elaine and they shared research, I'm sure.
You are just reading Elaine Aron's book out loud. Nothing new here.
