Man I love the 2023 version. But I was raised on a hobby farm and fermented manure smell brings back a flood of fond memories so that aspect wasn't an obstacle for me.
I'm gonna let mine sit before I open any until October and age the rest awhile. I got a Halloween Quotes from a Pipe Smoker episode planned featuring Aleister Crowley, which will be the perfect time to try it. It sounds promising from your take on it. I got some of that 4th Generation Peaty Kentucky rope to try too on the way. I'm looking forward to it as well. Cobblestone Kentucky plug I'll have to keep an eye open for. Take care and have a good weekend Brian.
Greetings Brian. The smell out of the tin on this one reminds me of the Copenhagen I used to chew in highschool. A little smokier. The taste is a like a cigar that has been smoked about to the nub. It's dark with an above average effervescence on the retro-hale. I agree with your rating. All I could think when I was smoking this was how much more the perique has better room to shine in Haddo's Delight and Haunted Bookshop. Those blends offer something for the perique to play off of. Thanks for the great review Brian. Blessings to you and yours.
All the C&D perique blends smell like a musty, sour barnyard, but they taste good. I smoke Bayou Morning most every morning, but the jar note is not pleasant that early in the day. Haunted Bookshop-even the mild Sunday Picnic aroma surprisingly is not nice. I must like them though. I buy a lot of it.
Sounds like a interesting blend, especially with that much perique.Didnt jump on it fast enough but I have an EXTREME amount of patience so no biggie.lol
I'm thinking those cobblestones are the double pressed tobaccos from Russ Oulette. I have smoked straight perique and I don't find it peppery, I actually think it just depends on what it is added to. I feel it maxes on spicy at 20-30% then it gets more plummy and fermented tasting. Thanks for the review
Beans, good to see ya review this one. I appreciated you giving me the heads up on this, it did sell out quick but I was camped out lol. I agree the smell isn't great but I've smelled worse, I also don't get much rum in smell and taste no rum. So my first small bowl of this, was on the harsher side of what I am used to, about a few mins in puffing at a faster than moderate pace I started to feel it kick in and (Keanu) Woah....that will swab your deck lol. I am glad to have been able to try it, might have to mix this one up with some strait Virginia or something to take it down a peg as it's definitely not an all day smoke for me, I got a few tins so I have to figure out something 😅
THANKS AGAIN 😊🙏...I am experimenting with blending and having smoked perique straight, I was not bowled over, obviously a small bowl in a tasting pipe... since this blend is 50% perique...and it is not like biting into a hit pepper, it seems to confirm the perique while adding its own nauce, seems to amplify the spicy quality of say a Virginia etc...my first success is a blend of red and bright flue cured Virginia's and perique in quantities of a 1/3 each....reminds me of Bayou Morning..sorry for the ramble, but I appreciate your reviews 😀
Found a couple tins of beast online and then found a couple more at my B&M. Definitely one to enjoy sitting down. I liked it but will let the unopened sit for a while.
Hey Beans, awesomeness truck, are you a ham? KC5DZH for almost 30 years, I also hold the commercial General RadioTelephone for almost 40 years now.... geez I’m old. Good review Thanks 🙏
No my friend it’s a DOH state radio and what’s on top of that is a Satellite DMI which I use to locate ft , yds , and miles when I’m marking out slip repair on the roads
Another great review my friend! But oh man, I’m soo upset I missed out again on the cobblestone new releases 😭😭! Hopefully with will release it again 🥺
The Beast I really like it I don't find an overpowering I don't find a boozy taste which I don't like I feel the rum in their balances out with the help from the Cavendish , the spicy taste makes it more neutral I do find this blend to taste better half way through the bowl when that rum I imagine is steaming up the tobacco the Perique , I have added and smoked straight Perique to many Blends over the years I have a mason jar full of straight Perique in C&D and McClellan's , McClellan's much sweeter then C&D . The Taste I get from this is the one of McClelland's whatever Perique they used more sweet no tongue bite just very smooth .... Well that's enough out of me thanks Brian for another good video .... Mike ..NJ
You sure enjoy a wide variety of blends. Could you recommend a coffee blend ? I have already purchased an Espresso blend, so I'm looking for an " every day " kind of coffee blend.
No I could not my friend I have never had any kind of infused coffee blend . I really haven’t smoked aromatics in a long time but have you ever tried Boswells aromatics? There pretty good
@@samuelolson3017 Ohhh I thought you meant coffee flavored tobacco lol . I drink dark French roast coffee my go to is usually great value French roast or Starbucks, uncle Pete’s , or death wish
@@samuelolson3017 I was referring to a tobacco blend, I should have been clearer with my question. I will check out your suggestion. Thanks for your input.
This reminded me of Exclusive, seemed like same ingredients minus the Kentucky and rum. You may want to try that one, bit more natural tobacco taste IMO. So those new Cobblestones are called plugs but really they are flakes? Interesting..
C&D needs to take Pegasus, add a clear/noticeable topping, and call it “Beauty” ... they could sell a 2-pack - Beauty & The Beast ... hard pass on this one for me 😳😱😃🤪
It’s safe to say you kinda are a burly guy now 😂 I was able to pick two tins of the beast from Boswell’s. Mississippi River rum barrel aged kinda ruined me on rum flavored tobacco. But I will try the beast sooner than later I suppose. Thanks for the review Brian.
Well to me (at least this batch) was fully bodied strong (not the strongest i smoked) but nothing to write home about. To me its as if after hours flake had a baby with kajun kake and that baby was punched in the right kidney shortly after birth. I feel to blame for the hiking missing as i swooped the shelves after you recommended it. I really hope these plugs are not sutliff creation, as i am not fan of them. Stay warm and safe my friend.
Haha very funny my friend the Hiking did stand out to me I liked it a lot . I’m pretty sure they are from Sutliff I’ll have to look into it but hope for the best . I really like the John Cotton Va I had never tried the others yet take care
@@beans316 well then it might be a repackaging/rebranding thing. I sadly do not like sutliff blends (the combination of leaf and processing make it too harsh for me) the exception being voodoo queen and the virginia slices i sent you in a jar.
I actually liked Windjammer allot more than the beast, but still a perique b o m b haha. Funny enough the liquor flavor was more pronounced in Windjammer.
Man I love the 2023 version. But I was raised on a hobby farm and fermented manure smell brings back a flood of fond memories so that aspect wasn't an obstacle for me.
Haha nice , if you like a lot of perique try Cornell & Diehl Exclusive
@@beans316 I don't like peppery perique

I like straight Perique, so I was hoping to score a tin, but missed. Hopefully it won’t be a one-and-done.
I’d buy this for the strength but being that you’re still cobbing it , I think I’ll hold off on this one. Thanks for the review. Cheers!
Excellent, excellent review Beans. Thanks a lot my friend. Have an excellent week-end.
That Wessex is in my top 3. One of the absolute best. Enjoy!
Wessex Campaign is wonderful! You will love it Brian
Can’t believe you scored some campaign dark flake. I have never seen that in stock anywhere. The BEAST! Brian is the BEAST!
It’s still in stock if your interested

interesting. Not Sure thats my cup of tea. Thanks for the review!!!
Sounds interesting . I like smoking straight Perique from time to time. Have a great one.
Great review as always. Sounds intriguing.. but my newbieness is telling me to wait. Have a great weekend!
Beans ‼️ 😎 well it sounds like a BEAST 👹..that dark flake you got is awesome stuff! Hope you have a great weekend take care 😃🥃

Thanks for the review! That stuff sold out really fast, I didn’t even have a chance to grab any lol! Enjoy your weekend!
I skipped it, limited edition? I'm waiting for red flake and variants. Windjammer is great!

Awesome love hearing folks experiments that sounds really good I’m getting ready to mix up a Red Va Vaper myself
So that's where all the Beast Tins went.
No haha I didn’t but that many but it did sell out really fast I’ll be giving away some more samples soon
Good morning Brian and happy weekend to you. I missed out on this one. It sold out fast. I hope you have a great day.
Free country BUT smoking the beast early in the AM... lol that’s hardcore lol 😂
Baaaahhhaaa yes especially on a empty stomach but surprisingly it’s not that bad not very spicy or peppery but does pack a punch
I just picked up 4 tins of campaign myself. Must of came from the same place😉. Can’t wait to try it.

Some great tobaccos. Just picked up some cobblestone English plug, looking forward to trying it
Nice two way radio beans. What frequency do you talk on?
It’s my work truck
Thanks for the review. Don’t think I’ll be trying this one haunted bookshop was bad for me so this won’t fair much better. See you in the morning

Where the heck did you find the Wessex Campaign? I’ve been looking for that stuff for a year or better
Ian RIES there still in stock
