    My dad's graduation gift to me was a 30mm vintage Cartier that he'd received as a wedding present - and I don't wear it nearly enough. You, sir, have convinced me to put it on my wrist again at the next available opportunity.

    Congrats on 100 and thanks for showing us the collection! I think you get a better overall picture with a small watch. I mean you get to see the watch and strap better because its a flatter, more complete, picture. But that's just my opinion.

I also still have my Ruhla I got for my first communion, as well as the first watch I ever bought with my own money (a quartz Tissot), my uncle's Seamaster quartz and my grandfather's Rodania. Great video Christian, and that Cartier is incredible.
    It's cool listening to you talk about your philosophy and appreciate your thoughts on sizing. As for me, until I tried on the last two divers I purchased, I never thought I'd wear anything over 40mm, let alone a PAM 312. It's a beast but I'm enamored with it. Goes back to elementary school, when I saw a picture of one from WW II, and trying it on brought back those emotions I remember when I saw that really cool picture.

    Hi Christian. I too like the Cartier Santos Dumont however they all are listed as Ladies watches as far as vintage is concerned. Did you ignore this or was there a certain size that you searched for?

    • @TheoandHarris
      @TheoandHarris  8 років тому +1

      Great question. I beleive they were actually produced in 3 sizes but I'm not sure of the dimensions. This example was a mans model - the female models were super small at around 23mm!

    • @GTAYLOR1972
      @GTAYLOR1972 8 років тому

      Theo and Harris That is what I was thinking. It seems in the vintage market the smallest 23 mm I believe are what are offered. I am guessing that is what their best seller was at the time. The tank is another one I am looking at.

    like you theo I just love love love love small watches maybe because I grew up wearing a Casio f 91-w but probably the reason I like small watches because 1. it's classy and sophisticated 2.small watches last longer....less surface area.....you bump it into things less.....hence its last longer 3. as it is long lasting....I mean part of why we love watches is that it's supposed to outlast us this piece o micro mechanical art.....and these watches will look good on me weather I am 21 or 81. Yups and I love your watch talk.

      @theprovincial 6 років тому +1

      Skinematic Films Buy vintage ( A secondary market offers huge discounts), and save your money for a few months from a part time job. It's not easy, but definitely possible and you'll feel so accomplished because you worked your a$$ off for it

    • @mazin13
      @mazin13 6 років тому +1

      Save up and don't get tempted with buying something else that can be obtained right now. Buy some Seikos and orients if you want some variety until you get the Rolex, but don't buy that Tudor or omega or Breitling. Buying one of those means you'll blow 2000-4000$ and you'll start from scratch for the Rolex (depending on which model you want).

    • @FatSamEIE
      @FatSamEIE 6 років тому +1

      It’s harder now as Rolex prices have gone through the roof and this raises the prices of older ones too.
      20 years back you could get a new 11634 datejust for £2350 in the uk. Now they’re about £8000! You could get a pre owned vintage back then for £800-1200 easily but now that’s unlikely.
      Having said that, if it’s your passion as it is mine then it’s a priority and I put watches above cars and other things. I have to have a nice watch. 😁

    I seriously just can't get enough of your Cartier Santos Dumont and it has been bugging me as i've been trying like crazy going through the most of your uploads that i've watch but i can't seem to find the one which you mentioned that you wear a lady size Cartier santos dumont which is the one in the video, would you happen to know which one was it? also would love if you let me know on the reference for this AND is it possible maybe just maybe that you could do a lug2lug on it cause i seriously just cannot get enough of it, you're a big influence on getting me so into Cartier and not looking at it on a view of "Fashion Watch" it ridiculous come to think that people do think of it that way as they have SO MUCH horological history behind the brand.
    Thank you Christian!

    You have very interesting collection and I really appreciate your emotional connection to some of your time pieces. I simply have to disagree with you on watch sizes and approach to this factor. Guy who is 2.5 times your size and has much larger wrist, simply can not wear watches that you do and vice versa. Size is main reason I gave up on vintage time pieces. Thanks for SOTC.

    Congrats T&H for 100 great videos. You now I love a lot of them, but this is my favorite so far, because it's so personal. What a great way to celebrate the 100th video. Great collection you have. It amazes me the knowledge you have on vintage watches and at your age it seems just impossible ;) quick questions, where do you see your collection go? do you ever think you could get a modern model a chance, if so, do you have anyone in mind right now? Congrats once again and now we want Hanna back!! hahaha. #whatisupwhatchfam?

      Thanks so muhc for folliwng, Pedro!! And a great question - I'd love to own a Glashutte Original and a reverso ultra thin but I dont see that happening at the moment! Maybe a vintage quartz 36mm Royal Oak as well!

    My first watch was a tissot chronograph Quartz given from my dad, then about 12 years later. My father gave me his Rolex explorer ref. 114270. I only wear just that watch.

      I really enjoy your collection, besides these two watches I have a 1898 lady pocket watch that I personally fix the latch, but the beauty and art of the pocket watch is amazing, like almost embellished, French fleur de lies style . It still ticking time! Maybe I'll give it to my future wife, haha. Anyways, I think omegas are amazing for the price, the sea masters are amazing, and I still have mine.

    Great video. I to don't have a problem with small watches. I have a massive wrist. So much so that I have to use the last hole on a nato. I wear small vintage watches all the time. Once you get use to it. Going to a 40mm feels ridiculous

    I was hoping to win the JLC for this milestone, mainly because it fits my personality. 😂
