- It's finally time to collect my brand new Ford Mustang DARK HORSE! The new beast has arrived in the US, so let's get from The Shmuseum across the pond to Pat Milliken Ford Detroit to pull the covers back. The new 'Stormtrooper' Shmeemobile is ready to rock and roll, let's go!
After some epic times around the USA with my Shelby GT500 that has since joined my collection in the UK, the new 7th generation Mustang has had my attention since it was introduced. However, this time around there's a new model in town, the Dark Horse. Featuring a Coyote naturally aspirated 5.0 V8 that makes 500hp (20 up from the standard GT), and crucially the optional Tremec 6 speed manual gearbox, this thing is a dying breed but a recipe for fun.
I placed the order for the new Dark Horse at Pat Milliken Ford Detroit having spoken many times previously with Kevin and the team - interestingly as the number 1 delivery dealer for Ford GTs in the world. There has been a whole lot to learn in terms of registration, payment, insurance, tags etc, but we've got there and it's all ready to go, go, go.
As with the other cars I have previously brought in other countries; my SLS AMG Black Series, Shelby GT500 and Zenvo TSR-S, I have personally used the services of Steve and the team at Currency Solutions for the payment facilitation to ensure it landed in time. After the payment is set, we're on a flight over to Chicago, to collect a rental car and drive from Illinois via Indiana over to Michigan ahead of collection day. While certainly not the easiest way to go about it, this is certainly kicking off the adventure well, ahead of some mega plans over the immediate month or two, and thinking further afield.
With a growing Ford collection, the Dark Horse joins my international 'garage' of the Ford GT, Shelby GT500, Focus RS Heritage Edition, and the long-term load Transit Custom MS-RT and recent arrival of a Mach-E GT. However, what makes it unique in the modern world is to offer the combination of a manual gearbox with an NA V8 - in fact I'm not even sure there's another one out there like it. I've met a British man here in the states. Southern California to be specific. He said he like it here, it exceeded his expectations. He told me he was there for his honeymoon. He liked how friendly people were and the weather. He said he just needed to get used to driving on the opposite side of the car. It's just media that portrays us as fat loudmouths, there are some fat loudmouths sure but we are very diverse. That's why i don't trust anything i hear about other countries, I'd rather experience it myself and judge them by what i think.
I think there was a baseball game on the radio too 😁
Now he only has to go to a shooting range and have a barbeque.

I love how excited Shmee is for a Ford Mustang even though he has experienced some of the greatest automobiles ever created. He can appreciate anything and it makes me really enjoy his channel.
More than just a Mustang, this has better brakes than any production car - 1.4gs under braking. Its not that hard to appreciate greatness really.

I am hopeful that there will be plenty of time to stay home later in life but for now I feel incredibly lucky to be able to make the most of everything that comes my way. This UA-cam journey has been totally unique and every morning I think about how special it is to be able to do this. Thank you for being part of it.

You are right that one day you will be excited by taking delivery of a lawn mower and thinking about that routine appointment with the Doctor and hoping he doesn’t start giving you warnings about the ten things you might die of….it will come but you are a young, strong man so decades away from “Tests”. Do exactly what you do now for as long as possible…keep making the memories, keep making friends…keep being SCHMEE…keep building our dreams along the way. Don’t get old…you cannot stop getting older but you can still be young. Inside I’m still 19…but recently I was knelt down on the floor of a DIY store reaching for some metal fastenings that were at the back of the bottom shelf and suddenly an assistant came hurrying over thinking I might have collapsed and couldn’t get up! He is doing this while young and able so when he gets older he will have created an empire that will bring him generational wealth .. never rest until your mid 30’s so that when you are in your 50’s you will only travel for pleasure…

@@AP13P If it was years ahead, it would have been approved lol. I watched a video of Brooks from Dragtimes when he did the test to teach the tesla how to drive and it said he was driving poorly which he clearly wasnt lol. Teslas are learning to self drive from bad drivers.
Anyone who thinks that car is not worth 75k has some marbles missing! All that beauty/performance/ and even tech for that price is unreal imo! That car is American muscle but teetering on the scope of hyper car with the insane infotainment display all that it’s missing for me is a couple electric motors to add another few hundred dark horses onto that insane NA racing engine. The sound is pure heaven I’m shocked it’s only 500 horsepower it sounds well above that! Absolutely gorgeous spec!

When I had just got my driver's license my Dad bought a new 1965 Mustang with the same white paint and black interior. 289, 2 barrel carb. and automatic transmission. Cost $2500. I was just as excited as you were!

That is a sweet looking mustang on the right
2nd or 3rd Mustang. Now that’s a Brit who knows a good performance car when he sees one. For almost a decade now, 2015 launch of GT350, Mustangs have added awesome handling and improved interiors to supplement there phenomenal straight line speed, stump pulling torque, 4 valve per cylinder, iconic fastback design and some of THEEE most emotional and harmonic exhaust and engine notes in the game. Well done Mr Shmee!

In 1971 I took delivery of my new silver 1971 Mustang Boss 351 from Pat Milliken Ford on Telegraph Road in Redford Township Michigan. Man how still had that car.

I just picked up my 24 GT and I love it. The shift knob on the Dark Horse is a titanium alloy, it doesn't get hot! Your Dark Horse looks amazing!!

Tim try this, we learnt this on accident with our Dark Horse. Remote start your car via key fob then hit the unlock lock button it revs the car without you in it. Cool little Easter egg. Not sure if it works on the manual, let us know !

Coming from a guy who exclusively drove European sports cars & recently bought a new gt mustang - it’s night & day the level of joy - hands down best engine platform, and if you spec out the suspension it’s the same if not better for track than my prior euros- couldn’t be more happy w/ s550/650 mustang

Same, the specs on paper make ya wonder if it's worth the upgrade from the S550. Aesthetically, it's also not much of an upgrade and more a refresh that neither helps or hurts. But man, even on the base GT, once you get behind the wheel, you won't be asking that question anymore. This generation did one hell of a job taking an amazing generation and making it even better.

Congratulations! I have the same Recaro buckets in my Mustang and find them a little tough on long drives (3hrs +). Interested in how you get on with them when you get to know the car!
