John Mayer met het nummer 'Angel from Montgomery' [cover van John Prine] tijdens zijn International Spring Tour in de Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam op 20/06/2014.
Alexander Michalik Hahaha I'd love it so much! But have you seen his latest tweets? Thinking he's going to go on another adventure, maybe even just as a guitarist
@@caspervanhelvoirt you can by a studio version from Bonnie Raitt & John prime. No one does it better than Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks band. I just heard them do it 2 nights ago. All I done for 35years is go to shows John prine is on my bucket list think I'm down to 4 or 5 people to see.......
Same here. I think the Hollywood 'machine' created something different out of Mayer than he actually is. His concerts and his skills are a whole different story than the celebrity narrative they tried to stick him in.
I never really cared for Mayer , no question he can play the hell out of the guitar. I think he is on up there with the best in the world right now. In this video he is not showing the limit of his skill , i have seen him be almost immoral , like he sold his soul to the devil or something.........damn he is good
His gold is in his live performances. I don't give two shits about ANYTHING he's put on a CD. Check out the album "Where The Light Is" live from L.A... it's magical. His intro to Gravity here gives me chills ua-cam.com/video/Fo4746XZgw8/v-deo.html
Man he makes that guitar do exactly what his brain is thinking in real time. That's incredible. I'm sure some of that solo was done prior but I'm wondering he prolly improvised some of that right there and it's just all on point when it needs to be . He's a legend.
IMHO and I'm quite sure JM will tell you the same, John Prine and Bonnie Raitt built the mine shaft and pulled the big nuggets. Tedeschi Trucks band found some really big beautiful nuggets as well. JM is getting some cocoa pebbles here. I love cocoa pebbles. But let's not pretend his vocal approaches Bonnie or Susan. Or even Derek's guitar, yet I know JM can rip. But, go seek and you will find.
He's only gotten better too since playing with Dead & Co, I've seen him 3 times in 3 different states on 3 different tours in Australia and every time I've been amazed at how much he's improved as a guitarist since the last time. And also remember this particular performance was when he'd just started touring again after recovering from the granuloma. His voice and his control over it are now better than ever in my opinion. This Ziggo Dome performance is my favourite live set he's ever done. I mean AGT and WTLI are spectacular but there was just something about his vibe on this night that was different, he was just super happy it appears to me and seemed to really love the crowd there, and it was abundantly evident in his free playing, the Walt Grace/Dreaming With a Broken Heart is chill-inducing.for those who haven't had the fortune of checking it out!
Thats it! I am officially on the john mayer fan club. Who would of thought john would have picked this unreal john prine and bonnie raitt song and do it so well!!!!!
One of the songs I played when playing for tips. $25 was a good 4-hour night. If I had the voice Mayer has, I'd still be playing the dives. Ah, the memories this old fart granddad has.
Am I the only person in the world that noticed the Alembic guitar he is playing? Alembic has been around for a very long time and makes incredible instruments. Wish I could afford one.
Alphie Prager no I’m a guitarist and I know every guitar and if I don’t I’ll research it til I do get it. FYI I noticed John makes every guitar look tiny because he’s around 6 ‘3”? And that guitar would look big on me. Im too skinny. :( I’m envious.
Mayer is way better at doing other peoples music than his own. He has an intimate knowledge of the fretboard. It’s awesome he’s still keeping guitar alive.
susan layton Yes but this is so Jerry Garcia... which makes sense bc he was just starting with Dead and Co... love the influence that has had on his playing!
I just commented that even some of his licks during solo shows now have taken on a Jerry lead style since his D&C work. Really chromatic stuff that Mayer never did previously. He was always very heavily blues influenced, now you hear blue grass and even some jazz elements in his playing...and its alot more free form.
I am the same age as Bonnie Raitt and listened to her and John Prine (RIP💜) sing this together so many times. It is really a tribute to the 2 of them to see the next generation pick this song up. I also am a longtime grateful dead devotee and I love seeing Bobby Wier and John Meyer together now. This young man is an extraordinary talent in the old-school style with that delicious taste of salt.
This is SO gorgeous! Thank you SO much for your great video and for posting. I love this song and when John performs it, it's even better. He makes every cover his own...and better. Love him forever.
The legend John Mayer is sensational..his voice is terrific and can that guitar and make the music flow out to me and you..what a performer and Entertainer..terrific band..awesome sounds in that guitar is what John brings out to airflow over you...R U with me

I see so many amazing singers, performers, singing with their eyes closed. Why do they always complain about that on singing competitions like American Idol? I used to like to sing with my eyes closed when I was little.
I have watched this video at least three times per week since it was first posted. I wake up singing it. I know it sounds morbid for me to say but I can't help but wonder whether anyone in the audience that night ended up on Malaysian Airlines Flight 17. So horrible.
