      G Day Tim, Yes I seem to be getting on top of things in that department, still a new wind cancelling mic to add yet, it came the other day and tests are positive.

    I literally just watched a video of a kid spraying hylomar on a headgasket. I never knew such a thing existed, and here you are talking about it too. Every tube I've ever had always ends up an absolute mess. I need to go find the spray version and see what kind of mess I can make with it. Myself I've always copper sprayed headgaskets. Not sure if there is any particular advantage of one over the other.

      Spray is a lot neater and a more even covering for sure. The old blokes would use silver paint and that seemed to work well to. I have seen the copper spray but not used it.

    speed brace works well like on the timing chest to do a lot of small bolts up then torque up to spec and you have more control with little bolts.
    on copper gaskets I used to use a clear yellow sealer you brushed on I cannot remember the name !
    tighten until your elbow clicks ? I thought that was really funny

      The old speed brace is a forgotten tool now with 18volt nut guns being so common.

    I’ve seen a quite a few of the 3 cylinder Perkins crack the block next to the cylinder, and had to get another block. Have you seen many crack? I figured that they must have been over heated. One mechanic puts new sleeves in the block and drives on but it usually cracks the sleeves as well. Great videos 👍

      G Day Tf9500, i have seen the odd block crack but not a common thing. I suspect they have blown head gaskets for a long time in some cases. I have driven liners in with a hammer when out in the bush but I always take spares as they will crack very easily.

    Hi Lance, just a quick question, I just fitted the head to my Perkins 212 this evening, I cleaned all the threads in the block with petrol and fitted the studs back with some thread lock, the spec is 136 Newton meters on the head torque, I went in stages just as you have, 35, 70, 105 and then 136 in the correct sequence working my way to outwards from the centre, when I was on the last stage the threads wrung on one of the studs! I loosened them all back off in the same order from the outside in and removed that stud! Should I just get a new stud and nut and screw it down with the head in place and start again with the torque or should I remove the head again and replace all the studs and nuts? Never had this happen before, they should be able to take the correct torque no problem? The figure of 136 NM is definitely correct as per the manual for this engine!

      I think replace the lot, the reason being that if one has a poor thread the others may have stretched the thread as well and you may not have the clamping pressure you think you have and the head gasket may not last well.
