    I think the hamstrings on squats is the same as when you get tricep soreness after doing a lot of pullups. Cause when you're at the bottom you have this stretch in the tricep and whenever you're lifting with some control, it will be contributing a lot. I imagine the same thing happens when you initiate the squat.

    • @chocoborider87
      @chocoborider87 7 днів тому

      The long head of the triceps is working hard during pull-ups (and other back exercises). The hamstrings only act as stabiliser muscles during squats. It's the adductor muscles that are working hard during squats. I guess coach Greg gets sore adductors and thinks it's his hamstrings. Or maybe his hamstrings are getting sore from other exercises...

    Greg just 1 thing to say here, the reason you are feeling much more hamstring activation is because of the way you squat. You bend your back over more and compensate by leaning back, this puts your body in a similar to Goodmorning position targeting your hamys more. If you want to strictly target the quads you will need to stay upright and go much deeper

      Nah, Wills genetics aren't even close to that good. They're good for a natty, but there are definitely nattys with much more size than him while being leaner. Most people that don't have the genetics just underestimate how big the top naturals can really get, and I see it all the time. Will has good genetics, but nothing crazy for a natty with top tier genetics. That said, this doesn't mean he's definitely natty. Genetics are everything, and there are all kinds of small people with very little strength and muscle on gear, so you just never know.

    for the hamstrings on squats: just look how your doing them vs Jeff and Will, they actually have significantly more knee movement(3-5 times as much compared to you) with about the same hip movements, so while you do mostly a hinge, they're doing pretty much a pure squat. what that translates to, while in both cases the hamstrings are lengthening at the hip and shortening at the knee on the eccentric, while contracting at the hip and lengthening at the knee on the concentric, obviously only loaded at the hip, in your case they lengthen more on the hip than shorten at the knee, therefore, though not ideally they do actually have some leverage at the hip, but on a hamstring to calve, or even heel to glute squat the knee movement way outperforms the hip movement, so the hamstrings actually shorten on the concentric and lengthen on the eccentric, so unless the knees straighten first and the second part of the lift becomes more of a good morning deep squats basically take the hamstrings outt of the equation since they literally can't help you lift the weigth, stabilize against no resistance at best. which I think is good, you can just do some hinges or leg curls and they usually don't need much volume

    Concerning push-ups, I made them much harder by using stands, slowing the eccentric, and pausing at the bottom for a second on the stretched position... I used to be able to do 25-30, and now struggle to do 13-15... And I feel them much more now... If then you go back up to 25-30, then do them inclined...

    4:00 is how i have to do pull-ups and chin-ups to get any tension in my lats and arms. Just banging out reps, i get nothing unless i add weight (which requires me to do what 4 minutes says anyway)

    You WILL hit hamstrings if you have a wider stance, hip dominant style of squat compared to what you'd see in a high-bar, low depth squat. Hip-dominant style squats though come at the expense of quad emphasis.

    It's super interesting how everyone uses different muscles way more than others on a squat. For Greg its hamstrings, for me its glutes (unfortunately)

      It has a lot to do with base width. For me, I absolutely can’t squat with my legs are close together. I have to go wide, with toes pointing out. I just can’t point straight out and have a narrow base. So it will work different parts.

    I always feel like I get a better squeeze on lying leg curls…maybe I’m doing one of them wrong? Also just don’t like the seat applying pressure on the muscle I’m flexing so I don’t prefer seated…end of the day I just do whichever is available at my busy gym

    Hearing Greag talk about letting your shoulders "round" while working the back muscles reminds me of something someone said to me(which I assumed was an insult).
    I raced a guy in the 40 yard dash and lost barely. But I was buff at 250lbs and he was cut at 190(same height 5-11). He told me I was fast for a big guy...but he refused to lose a race to a guy with round shoulders. I wish I would've asked him what he meant but I was pissed off I lost the race. Round shoulders? Wtf!!! Anyone?
