    • @JoshBoeke
      @JoshBoeke 9 місяців тому +112

      I think it's more accurate to say that he takes a scientific approach to the question, which is to say that there's more evidence that the stimulus-to-fatigue ratio of training to failure is not worth the tradeoff when doing something like 1-3 RIR produces almost the same results without the fatigue / recovery drawbacks. He acknowledges that some people like training to failure because "it's fun" or they get some psychological benefit from it because they feel like they gave it their all or whatever. It's a nuanced issue but the science is the science.

    I’m using the RP App and the program moves from RIR 3 to RIR 0 overtime. Mike wants you to push progressively but the last week of the program he wants you to push all the way to failure.
    So, I guess Mike means you shouldn’t ALWAYS go to failure. In my experience, pushing all the way to failure every single workout isn’t ideal for recovery and fatigue.

      When I was in my 20s I got a hold of a Weider Body Building book and read up on all the tactics the bodybuilders were using, i.e. drop sets, forced reps. In fact, I would take forced reps 2 past failure with a spotter. In hind sight, I think that information was intended for stubborn muscles found on extremely enhanced and over-trained body builders, many of whom only trained that body part once per week. It was extremely fatiguing and mentally draining to say the least.
      Today, I use a different approach. I try and get at least one rep more than the last time and so far it's a good marker for growth and progress, and less difficult to recover from. I've always struggled with periodization, but I believe the best approach is volume in the beginning, then as you progress, back down volume and increase intensity. Just my opinion.

    As a natty I was super sceptical about test boosters and regardless of his clear intelligence Huberman's 400 increase is ridiculous. I however run a cycle of Ashwaganda, Tongkat and Fadogia for 3 months had my T levels taken before and after (not free test just test) and found my levels as a 47 year old Natty went from 330 to 476. This is not evidence as T levels can vary from day to day and even time of day. So for the next year ran all 3 individually with the same thing. After Ashwaganda levels back down to around 340, Fadogia the same and nothing happened, however for the Tongkat I actually went from around 350 to over 500. It's anecdotal but also got noticeably stronger and just felt better. For me Tongkat seems to work and most studies are looking very positive. Fadogia did nothing as far as I can tell but Ashwaganda whilst seemingly doing nothing for my test, definitely helped my overall mood and sleep. These natural compounds like any compound have different results in each person (even creatine works way better for some than others) but I am a very anal person as my post attests and Tongkat seems to do more than is anecdotal or placebo.

    Disappointed with some of the mischaracterizations of Jeff Nippard and Dr. Mike's arguments in this video. (1) at 5:11 Coach Greg says that Dr. Mike and Jeff Nippard both agree that bulking doesn't work and main-gaining is the way to go. That's not what they say in the video. In the video they specifically are talking about dirty bulking - eating way above maintenance with junk food. Clean bulking is what they both support, not maingaining. (2) At ~5:00 you basically say that Dr. Mike is a hypocrite because he says failure training is overrated and yet he trains to failure. If you watch Dr. Mike's videos, you'd see that he does advocate training to failure - but just only in the last week of a meso-cycle. The name of his company has the word periodization in it. His whole training methodology focuses on starting a meso-cycle with 3 RIR and then gradually working your way up to failure before a deload. His argument isn't that failure training is never a good idea, it's that you shouldn't train to failure every set or every session, which is what many people advocate.

    Here's the issue with testerone boosters: no one's arguing that some supplements can't boost your testerone, the problem is that they boost your testerone about 25-50 ng/dl which isn't going to take anyone beyond the normal reference range, and boosting your testerone within the normal reference range doesn't do anything, it especially isn't going to have an effect on training outcomes. Given that, it's scummy to promote such garbage. That said, outside of Greg's supplement store, I generally like his philosophy on training.

    Funny video, and my last one.
    I wish you the best of all luck Greg, I learned a lot from you.
    However I feel like there is nothing more to learn from you, that could not be learned elsewhere in a less upsetting way.
    You perfectly managed to missunderstand almost every single sentence from mike and Jeff, putting words into their mounth, they never said.
    Most obviously at the part about training to failure.
    I did not like all things mike(and others) said about you on various occasions, (you know them beter than me) I'l give you that one.
    However I do not like the drame, and while you always claim not to like drama youself (just like Jonny of course NEEEVER likes drama....)
    my observation is the following:
    You provoke the drama wherever you can so you can later call out others for starting the dram and claim that you are just the victim of it.
    Of course you like it because its positive for you even if they talk negative about you... yes I see that.
    Well, I don't like it, and you make your self (deliberately or unconsciously) the center of a lot of drame.
    Therefore, the best of all luck Greg,
    I am out.

      @EarhirX 9 місяців тому +1

      I think it is a based on a lack of research of Dr Mike's actual view point on failure by Dr Greg. Mike's perspective is that you should only train to failure on the last accumulation week of your meso, and progress to that from 3RIR. It is how the hypertrophy app programs each meso, you only go to failure on the last week and the rest are just approximations to failure

    • @_baller
      @_baller 9 місяців тому

    • @EarhirX
      @EarhirX 9 місяців тому +1

      @@_baller not everyone, he’s also got some videos where he trains people on deloads and they barely train. One with Omar Isuf (sorry if name’s not correct) comes to mind.
      Also his view on exercising for hypertrophy is that progressive overload cannot occur if you start training at the limit of your ability. Your body cannot adapt fast enough to overcome that limit and your ability to recover is smaller as you get close to that limit. So you should train to failure to keep progressively overloading, but it is not necessary to reach failure, as long as you can still progressively overload.
      The last thing is that, yeah he likes torturing people in his videos, but it is the appeal of those videos. They take professional athletes and then show that even they reach a point where they start shaking and resting more. But just like Dr Greg says he doesn’t like drama and keeps making drama and we keep clicking on it
