Need tactical help with your #SSN vs whole #boomerbastion of ships, subs and air assets protecting a #boomer? Watch me tackle "Bastion Gambit" single mission as a 688, where I take on an SSBN, plus various surface and subsurface ships, plus air assets, trying to protect it.

We loaded 2 decoys and deployed the towed array. Seems we do have quite a bit of water under us.
We found 3 surface ships, probably an Udaloy and 2 Kresta IIs. We doglegged 2 torpedoes to southwest then northwest... They dropped a few torpedoes on my torpedoes, but of course, we're nowhere behind the torpedoes.
One of the torpedoes we doglegged northwest definitely spooked a sub out of hiding. I thought it was a Tango. It was definitely a diesel-electric sub and not the boomer.
The other torpedo caught one of the Kresta IIs. We launched another torpedo.
The first torpedo somehow caught the other Kresta II. We launched another torpedo.
We found Delta III way to the west-southwest, then another Tango to the southwest.
The third torpedo caught the Udaloy.
The fourth torpedo caught the submarine to the west, which turned out to be a Kilo, not Tango.
Our fifth and sixth torpedo caught up to the Delta III... One hit, the other one... ran out of power. But one torpedo is not enough to sink the boomer. But it did force it to seek the surface, as its tail dragged through the bottom silt when it was evading that last torpedo.
We launched another torpedo, then loaded a Harpoon to see if we could catch the boomer on the surface. The first Harpoon somehow dove into the ocean before it could hit. We launched another, and this one sent the boomer to the bottom.
    Decided that's enough, we disengaged.
NOTE: This scenario is rather unrealistic, due to a couple things: 1) any escorts sinking would have prompted EVERY Soviet naval asset to head toward the area, esp. a ton of air assets, but there are only two helos and one maritime patrol aircraft in the air, as that's the limit of the game engine, and 2) if we force the boomer to surface, it will try to launch its ballistic payload as soon as it is able to do so, so we have CAUSED Armageddon instead of preventing it.

There were many different factors discussed, from how to position your submarine, to how to read sensor panels. How to set activation points with torpedo, and how to dogleg. How to conduct baffle attacks and how to consider approach angles to optimize sensors. How to locate enemies...
