Excellent description and video. Many videos just talk about it and not show real steps. I appreciate you showing real steps.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
On your knees for the majority of this job, major props to you bro.!!!
Over 60 and keep on ticking! It helps that I hate paying other people to do something that I'm capable of doing myself. Thanks for watching!
broom stick in that paint roller and you can just stand up and paint it on.
Good idea. I wanted to be closer to make sure I've got optimal coverage.
Hi from Mesa AZ!
I've done this process on my old class A. Great work!
Proper Preparation Promotes Phenomenal Performance.
Mine gas held really well. It’s 90% prep to have a good outcome. Thanks for watching!
Just finished mine less than an hour ago. Thankfully I had four days of good weather to clean, eternabond and apply the Henry’s Tropicool.
You'll be glad you did it! Ours still looks like we just did it.
That was a hot job, but man does it look great. Be safe and good luck, Bill and DeAnna
Thank you - Any job outside in AZ in the summer is a hot job! Thanks for watching and safe travels!
Thanks for your great video. I don't like being on the roof of my RV but I am using your video to help me get this done!
Glad the video is helpful. There’s not a lot of space on the roof so you really need to pay attention to where your are.
Thank you for watching!
watching your viedos and other videos and decided to follow your steps. I have a 31 foot RV wish me luck. yes also going to paint my RV but top first
Best of luck. Ours is still as nice as when we did it.
@@RoamingWithRosie the sealant you used was it Henrys Silicone coating?
when putting down the eternabond tape is there an adhesive you put down first?
the site for Rosa one ? love to see ir
Thank you folks for sharing your knowledge I will use this product to seal my 5th wheel rv roof...
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
(I did the same project, great results. It was easy rolling it on standing with a handle attached to the roller.
Tropi-cool is great stuff. Mine still looks new.
Thanks for watching!
I didn't see if you sealed the slide-outs? Mine doesn't have the slide-out covers & I need to seal the whole thing. Thanks
No we didnt because we have toppers. But if your slide roof is the same as your RVs roof, it should be fine. It says on package what surfaces it will adhere to. Be sure to verify that.
Have you considered putting the eternabond tape along the outer perimeter of your roof???
Also how has the Tropi-Cool Roof Coating held up to date?? Would you do this on new RV roof??
Thanks for sharing
The outer perimeter was in good shape. If there was any issues I would have applied Eternabond. The Tropi- cool still looks great and has held up really well. I would be cautious on applying it to a new roof. It could void your warranty. Being that my coach is a 2006 there is no warranty.
Thanks for watching!
Big job in the heat but worth it. I just tried a can of Flex Seal instead of Dicor to touch up around the roof vents and it works good.
Yeah it's a big job - But it had to be done. Rather get it done before we had any issues and we are getting ready to install Solar. So it just made sense. I heard Flex Seal is good stuff. Thanks for watching!
@@RoamingWithRosie I’m looking forward to your solar videos. I’m thinking about doing the same to my DP.
@@bobspamail I have already purchased everything for the install. Just need to get it installed.
Great job! It’s looks great! Thanks for sharing! Safe travels! Zoe and Ramón
Thank you - We can cross of roof maintenance for a little while. Thanks for watching!
Two years later update… have you had to reapply in places? Is the tropicool adhering well to the eterna bond tape?
Haven't had any issues. It's still in great shape! We've camped on the edge of Badlands in major storms, been in temperatures over 115° as well as 20°. Still recommend this product 100%.
I have this exact same RV and intend to do all of this very soon.
Are you part of the Alfa owners group on Facebook? Lots of great information on there. Thanks for watching!
It was great to meet you guys in Quartzsite and interesting to see what’s involved in a roof refresh! Luckily, I don’t have this problem with my minivan, but I’ll know how when I buy a larger RV.
Happy Trails! Hope to meet again.
I know that was hard work on your roof. It looks great you did a great job.
Thanks!
Being that I'm disabled when I get my motorhome I am thinking about looking into rv-armor Roof System letting them come and do it so I do not have any more maintenance when it comes to the roof I don't know we'll just have to see what goes on with it when it comes to money and everything else
I haven't heard of the RV Armor system. Won't you have to still get on the roof occasionally to clean the roof off? Thanks for watching!
@@RoamingWithRosie I mean I suppose you could get up there and clean it if you wanted to but it's supposed to be a no maintenance Roof System it's not cheap but it'll save you the time and the headache of having to get up there and do all that maintenance
Im in Tucson
Looking at Henry's tropicool also.
How do u like it? Now that it's been a few years
@@jcel5870 It's great. No issues. Looks the same as when we did it. Still recommend.
Great job
Thanks! It's held up like it was just done too.
So I'm trying to decide between Henry Tropi-cool and Dicor roof sealant?? I see you used Eternabond tape then the Dicor lap sealant then the Tropi-cool. I've read the folks had problems with using eternabond with Tropi-cool because of the sealant being silicone? Have you had any problems? I just want to deal my roof up good. Thanks in advance
I have not had any issues with the Tropi -cool not sticking to the Eternabond. It has held up really well. I inspect it every time I clean the roof. Thanks for watching!
Has this held up with the eternal bond tape. I've been told that they don't work well together that silicone won't stick to it.
It has held great and has stayed adhered to the Eternabond tape. I have had no issues with the Henry’s.
Thanks for watching!
Why did you put the tape down before you washed the roof?
I cleaned the area where I put the tape 1st. Then taped next in case there was any leaks, this would initially seal & prevent potential water getting in while cleaning the rest.
Was curious, it’s been about a year now since you put the Henry’s and eterna bond on the roof. How’s that holding up and looking? I’ve got a 2021 gulfstream conquest 6320 class C and even tho the roof is fine I thought about eterna bond along all the edges and where the front cap joins the roof. It’s a tpo roof.
Our roof is holding up great! However I would check with the warranty department for your RV. Make sure to ask if you put eternabond on, will it void your roof warranty before you do anything to it.
I was wondering if you’re still happy with the results on the roof. I am considering doing this to my rv roof.
Yes, I am very happy with the roof coating. It has held up really well.
Thanks for watching!
Very good video I need to use Henrys on our 5th wheel.
I'm replacing my skylight right now, and will be sealing with Interabond Tape & Dicor.
Can you put Enterabond Tape over Dicor when its wet or let it cure first?
Let it cure first.
Thanks for watching!
ok... you've had this Alpa for a few months now! How are you liking it.
I love the Alfa, it's very comfortable, there's lot's of storage and it is a pleasure to drive.
Hi there! Just wondering if dirt sticks to the silicone and how to clean it after it starts to look dirty. Thank you!!
Hi! No, dirt doesn't stick to it. It isnt sticky. Jamie occassionally wipes it down with water and a towel the same as he did the roof prior. Now we have solar panels which need wiping down as well. Good luck. 😉
I was CRAZY SEAL!! Same procedure, You don't want to be on it while its wet !!! It is VERY slippery on FOOTING.
Thanks for watching!
Unrelated topic, I am going to look at a 2000 Freightline Discovery 40'. What is your opinion on them and how much is a reasonable purchase price. It has approx 50k miles and the asking price is $50K. Since watching this video and the one where you purchased your current veh. I will start to follow your videos and hopefully gain pointers. Thanks in advance.
It depends on the engine (what brand and horse power), transmission and what kind of shape the RV is in. I would do some comparisons on RV Trader and RVT internet sites. I would also check out the online forms on what other Discovery owners have to say about them. Hope this helps and good luck on your search. Thanks for watching!
This looks amazing! I definitely will be redoing my roof.
Would you suggest anything different if there are small leaks? (97 Jayco trailer) has been patched a few times. But I think there is one leak over the bed…☹️
I would locate the leak and repair the damage. I put Eternabond tape on all of my roof seams then applied the Tropicool.
Good luck with your project.
Thanks for watching!
how long do you wait after applying the caulk to apply the eterna bond? i was told it won't adhere if the caulk was soft. i have waited 48 hrs and more and the caulk is still soft we are up in the 90s. so i just want to know what you did...thanks for vid.
The eterna bond goes down first. You don't have to wait. You can go over your seams with Dicor Lap Sealant (is this what you are referring to as caulk?). The Dicor lays down better when it's hot. It was over 100° in AZ when I did this. Not sure what you used as caulk. Dicor would have set. Then you could do eterna bond on top then dicor again last on seams.
Great video, thank you. I have solar panels, I guess I should remove them, but I can't remove them and leave the brakets on the roof. What are you suggesting ? thanks,
Can you tilt your panels? I would tilt them and apply the roof coating. The roof under the brackets is protected by the brackets and hopefully you have Dicor over your brackets and screws that mount on the roof. I went over my Dicor and Eternabound with the roof coating and it adhered really well. Hope this is helpful.
Thanks for watching!
@@RoamingWithRosie Hello, no I can't tilt them, they are bolted form the inside. FOr sure the brackets are screwed on the roof and with full of Dicor. Thanks !
Just watched your video from 2 years ago. I started to investigate buying the "Henry 887 Trop-cool". To my surprise there is a major price difference for this product, $48.00 to $440.00 on the internet, same 4.75 gallon container. Without being to presonal, what did you pay for what appears to be the 4.75 gallon container and where did you purchase it?
I don't know what the $48 one could be. They do have other products in their line. . It's the 4.75 gal. It's $484 on Amazon. But my local Home Depot has it at $350. Hope that helps.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
When the price is too good to believe it most likely a scam, thanks for getting back to me.@@RoamingWithRosie
i was on the roof of my Alfa this fall, presure sprayed it and hit it with purple clean, came out nice but i noticed a spot very small the the white coating had come off revealing something black, assuming the rubber, wonder if if the old coat didnt stick well from who ever had done it before, would the bond from that coat ruin the new coat i will apply this summer, it was only the size of a dime, everything else looked good
The original roof was white, I think TPO, not rubber. So I'm curious as well, what they put on it that was black. And then a white coating on top of that? I'm not an expert on roofs by any means, but you may not need to put another coat on. You may just want to patch that spot with lap sealant.
Did you paint the Henry on top of the dicor sealant or just to the edge of it?
I painted it over top of the Dicor. People have said that it won’t stick to Dicor or Eternabond. Mine has stayed adhered to both.
Thanks for watching!
My concern is how well does this coating stick to any roofing material?
You can look up on the Henry website to see what roofing material it can be applied to. It has adhered really well to our roof including the Eternabond.
Thanks for watching!
Any roofing material is a bit vague. RVs have tpo, EPDM ,.or fiberglass in almost every case. Henry's is either acrylic or silicone and both adhere perfect on EPDM and tpo. I wouldn't coat your roof until it's aged a bit and is showing signs of wear. Henry's is top of the line. Also the eternabond tape was overkill in this case in my opinion. Dicor lap sealant works perfectly for seams and anything protruding the roof. Eternabond tape is best for rips or tears on roof.
How is the Henry holding out on the roof as well as the paint work. Been paying attention to your trips and everything else.
The Henry’s is holding up great! It looks like it did when I first applied it. No issues. Thanks for watching!
did u put henery over etherbond tape ???
Yes, I went over the Eternabond with the Henry’s.
Thanks for watching!
Does that make much of a difference with internal heat?
All Motorhome roofs seem to be light or white regardless of RV color. Tropicool adds some ingredients allowing for increased reflection. We don't have any data to be able to show a difference. But the whole process we did with all the sealants as well was intended to protect our roof from leaks. We added 6 solar panels in follow up video, covering a lot of the roof. It seems to have gone way up in price both on Amazon and at Home Depot, so check around. We do get a small commission if you use our link for anything you buy on Amazon regardless if it's in our storefront. Hope this info helped. www.amazon.com/shop/roamingwithrosie/
Then I will absolutely use your link when I purchase it. Thank you!
Just got back from the beach and we could tell a big difference in the heat and how often the AC ran.
I have a question I have a 2021 Forest River 33 ft and it does not have a ladder someone told me that means do t get on the roof take it to the dealer to work on it????
I would recommend calling the manufacturer and ask them. I don’t know if you would get an honest answer from a dealer or repair shop.
Thanks for watching!
It is best to do this in a shop or under a car port
If you have access to a shop or carport that would be better. Unfortunately we didn't have that option. Thanks for watching!
Is dicor compatible with the Henry's
Does dicor have to be completely dry before adding Henry's tropicool ?
Yes, I would let Dicor dry before applying Henry’s Tropicool.
Thanks for watching!
Since this Seal Coat says it gives a lifetime warranty, does that mean that you only need to seal coat the RV Roof one single time, or do you need to re apply it every single year ? I am in the process of paying off a 1991 Fleetwood Flair 22 foot Class A Motorhome that needs the roof to be re sealed to be safe from leaks. Can I get away with just coating the roof one single time, or should I do it once every year ?
You don't need to do it every year. I inspect my roof at least every 6 mo. If there is any damage due to branches or other things scraping I might repair with eternabond. But haven't needed to recoat yet. And am still very satisfied with the product. It is a Lifetime Limited Warranty. I would suggest checking fine print on their website.
Jamie, can I ask a favor?
When you have the camera at the beginning of this vid. Over your shoulder there are 3 tall evergreens, WOULD YOU PLEASE FIND OUT THE NAME OF THOSE EVERGREENS AND LET ME KNOW? (BEEN LOOKING FOR THOSE FOR A YEAR) THANKS BROTHER, GREAT VIDS AS ALWAYS. My wife and I are thinking of taking your path and wrap up my career working remotely. Please keep up the good work
Hey there. Do you mean on the thumbnail? There is 3 Italian Cypress . Otherwise, there's just palm trees I think.
what product are you using to clean roof , before putting Turn a bond tape on?
I just used water and a scrub brush and rinsed off the roof.
Thanks for watching!
Is this better than liquid rubber
I’ve never used liquid rubber. All I can say is that it is still in great shape and I’m very satisfied with the product.
Thanks for watching!
How's it holding up putting in on over the eterabon?
It’s holding up great. No issues going over the Eternabond. Thanks for watching!
117 degree temp !! God Lord how do you people live in that kind of heat thats insane !!
That's become the norm for May thru Oct the last 10 years. But we sold and hit the road. With a home base at a comfortable mile high.
i see you did this 2 years ago...how did the product hold up over time??????
It has held up great! Still looks like it did when I first applied it.
Thanks for watching!
how long after you apply dicor did you have to wait to apply the henrys tropicool?
Dicor instructions give specifics so always read the label. But I would wait 48 hours.
What worries me about the eternabond is what happens if you need to replace one of the fixtures you taped around. I understand that stuff is about impossible to remove.
It can be removed with a heat gun. You heat it up and it pulls off pretty quickly. Thanks for watching!
@dustyroosters9805 what is your answer concerning removal of tape and replacement the tape
Never mind you answered in video!
Wow, can only imagine how many gallons of electrolyte water you consume on one of those days! 👍
I didn't keep count on the amount, but it was a lot. You have to stay Hydrated or you'll pay later. Thanks for watching!
Did you paint the sealant over the Durabond tape? We just bought an RV and need to seal the roof, what is the low temp to apply the coating? Obviously high temp isn’t an issue, but our temps are varying between 30-50° during the day.
Hi. Yes, We did paint it right over the Tape. I looked on the website henry.com/retail/white-roof-coatings/887-tropi-cool-100-silicone-white-roof-coating and application temperature is 35-120F. Here's our link for Amazon to purchase it. They seem to have the best price that I could find right now. amzn.to/3HwB8bK . Let us know how you liked it. Safe Travels!
Your Amazon link says unavailable and don’t know if it will be available again at all. I’m bummed.
I understand that nothing in the future will bond to the silicone in the future for let's say a tear repair???
How do you like the Henry tropical after 2 years? I was asking because other rv owners are saying you can’t apply anymore sealant to it. Nothing sticks to silicone. So if you have to replace a vent or something.
I’ve applied Eternabond tape Dicor lap sealant. It has all stuck just fine. The Henry’s has held up great.
Thanks for watching!
I'm about to start my spring maintenance on my roof, but noticed a couple of soft spots. Is it too late to seal? Do I need a new TPO? Or will sealing stiffen the rubber? I couldn't find any place near the soft spot that seemed ripped, cracked, or broken.
If there's a soft spot it's probably the wood underneath your TPO roofing. Replacing the roof will not fix the problem. Somehow moisture must got to that spot on your roof. If you don't want to tear the roofing off and repair the damaged wood. I would make sure everything is sealed. All the seams on top and the sides of the roof. Then you could apply the roof coating. That would create a solid waterproof membrane. Hope that helps.
Is your roof TPO or EPDM?
Our roof is a TPO. Thanks for watching!
Maybe I missed it, but did the 5gal make it through 2 coats?
Yes, the 5 gallons made it through 2 coats with a little left over.
How is this product holding up? Was going to try this instead of Gaco Liquid tape silicone....its getting pretty expensive now
Holding up great! Although we saw that Henry's Tropicool is a lot more now too. But still very satisfied with the product.
Did you cut in along the gutter edge and around vents etc before the second coat?
Yes, I applied the second coat the same way I did the first coat.
Thanks for watching!
this is the 2nd video I've seen where someone has used a collapsible ladder. Can you tell me what brand this is? I think this is a 12.5' type but I'm not sure. Since you already have a built-in ladder on the RV do you find that the collapsible ladder is safe to use to get on and off the roof? My RV does not have a built-in ladder so a external ladder is my only option. I want to do roof work as you did on your roof but need to be able to safely get on / off the roof.
It’s the Good Life 15.5 ft Telescopic ladder. I got it on Amazon. I think it’s safer than the ladder that mounted on the RV. It’s wide and I like that I can make it taller so I have plenty ladder up above the RV.
Thanks for watching!
@@RoamingWithRosie thank YOU for this valuable information.
Has the Henry's stuck to the Eternabond tape well?
The Henrys Tropicool has worked out really well. I'm on the roof quite a bit raising our solar panels. I check it out every time and it has adhered to the roof and eternabond really well.
Thanks for watching!
How do you think this product held up so far? My edpm roof is not leaking yet but looks very bad so I’m looking to put something down that will give me another few years.
It has held up really well. It is still in great shape.
@@RoamingWithRosie thank you and yes I put it on my 5th wheel and it looks awesome
Just got a 2001 Monaco. Would the tropicool work or make sense on a peaked aluminum roof?
The label says it works on metal roofs. I think it would be OK. I like it it because it reflects the sun's rays. Keeping it a little cooler in the RV.
@@RoamingWithRosie awsome thanks. So glad you made that vid.
how old was your roof when applied Tropi Cool ? The Rubber roof on my fifth wheel was replace completly 3 or 4 years ago and still in pretty good shape, the folks at rv place told me just put a uv sealant instead of a coating like Tropi Cool. But uv sealant needs to be done every year. Thanks Great video
Our roof was 15 years old when I did it. It’s been close to two years and the roof still looks great.
How many gallons would you say you used for 2 coats? and also how has it held up in the 2 months since/ I also have an Alfa and need to do this to my roof.
Our Alfa is 40 feet. It took a 5 gallon bucket for two coats. I have about a half a gallon left over. It has held up really well. I'm glad I did it.
Old henry's tropi-Kool way better than dycor
I think so. Most of the reviews that I read and watched in UA-cam. Had nothing but positive reviews for Tropi-kool.
Not that bad!!!!!!! 100 hell no. Not my bay area spoiled ass. Call me when its in the 70’s
LOL.
Is your roof TPO or EPDM ?
My roof is a TPO. Hope this helps.
