I'm 32 and dont own any kind of tuning devices. Tuning by ear is definitely more of a chore but you also get to know your drums a lot better that way if that translates. Great vids!
I watched your tuning video for the supra and I struggled to create a minor third difference between the two heads, they both just sounded the same. Any thoughts?

Quick question what’s the difference between a vintage ambassador and a vintage emperor?
The thickness: an Ambassador will always be thinner than an EMPEROR. The reissue Vintage Ambs are a 7.5 mil and a 3 mil combo. A Vintage Emp is 2 plies of 7.5 mil. The garden variety current Emp is 2 plies 7 mil.
I would crank it up just a little more and loosen the lug closest to your body on the left side. Or perhaps even some moon gel to ease the overtones.
I have this method with my Ludwig supraLITE which has more overtones than anything and it sounds pretty damn close to the Bonham sound
Bonzo used his Slingerland green sparkle on LZ one he did not use Ludwigs untill he returned from the US tour with Vanilla Fudge .
What do you think about the ludwig cymbals made by paiste?
Almost all of them were nickelsilver. Not my favorite alloy, but there were some hats I did like!

I am just speculating here but I always felt the double ply heads like Emperors and Vintage Emperors have a "built in muffling system without having one" kind of thing going on for them, just in the nature of being a double ply drum head. I have a modern LM402 with the rubber gaskets so, I believe, that adds to the muffling as well. I am currently in the process of replacing the stock 2.3mm rims (with the understanding that vintage LM402s have 1.6mm rims) with chrome over brass 2.5mm rims so I surmise that the overall sound will be brighter and lively without the need to alter the drum completely (ie. take off the rubber gaskets, etc etc to diminish overtones and such). Moreover, having a 42 strand snare wire underneath and even the Puresound 30s on a LM402 lends itself to a bit more, to shall we say, "natural muffling".
Did you buy those 2.5mm COB hoops and are you happy with the change in the sound you got with them? Please tell me where did you bought it?
Leave the gaskets on and install diecast hoops. That’s what I did with my Black Beauty and it’s perfect with a Coated Control Sound or for a bit less ring Coated Emperor. Tama 14RLC snare wires are working great. Best snare wires out there besides the Canopus which are a close second in my experience. Ring comes from head and the location of the bearing edge and how much shell touches the head. Less shell to head contact and further out will give more ring. Ring isn’t influenced by the shell in the lug contact area.
Anyone know or have this snare, its a Used Peace 5X14 Aluminum Snare Drum Drum Chrome 8, seems to be at the big companies for cheap, advertised as aluminum? if it is these two metals, I guess its close to Supraphonic sound.

Try an emperor x, it makes your snare sound exactly like the royal albert hall snare sound
Jeff Ocheltree said he used to use sandpaper to make new heads look used so Bonham wouldn’t get upset that he was changing heads.
Jeff Peff I use that method when I come across backline snares on jazz gigs, with new coated heads because I hate how brushes sound on them.
What hats are those? 2002?

I don't have an S RIDE model unfortunately. I just sold the 20" MEDIUM THIN CRASH. It was 1965 grams ish if I recall..

Hard to tell whether ya said "Don't forget about the tunebot settings" Or "we're gonna get the tunebot settings". Just wanted to avoid confusion, in case it turns out I'm bitching about something you've already began to address haha.
No-I will get some proper tunebot settings. George will have his baby all tuned up and I’ll have someone get the proper settings. Hopefully it’ll be helpful!
Is this a joke? It looks like the drums are in a garage that is 95 degrees in Chicago packed completely full like a episode of Hoarders. You talk like your on speed most of the video without really talking much about the Snare. I'm not sure what this is.
