Russ is not only a wonderful drummer but also, and most importantly, a great human being. I had the privilege to spend some quality time with him in 2007 and 2008 and was impressed by the man. His playing reflects his intelligence, empathy and big heart. I wish I'll get the chance to meet with him again one day.
Here is the power of drums. In 1994, I saw Dom in New Zealand. Not a great time in my life but his clinic and playing lifted me up. Like an uncle that invites you round to his garage to have a chat and help on the classic car. Guidance. In 2022 drums are still part of my life. Recently sold my Yamaha dtxpress III 6 pce drumkit and are moving towards conga, timbale and rototom set up. Chimes, cow Bell. It's an evolving thing and great fun! God bless you all.
Russ is a wise, centered, humble "human" man. Good inspiring advice from a smart, accomplished, resolute guy. I've never heard his drumming, but I will make a point of it. Dom is doing musicians (and others) a great service with his interviews. Notice that all his interviewees give the same common-sense advice. I am not a drummer, but I am a life-long musician Now I just have to apply the advice and finish things. ; )
Vinnie might be from another planet, but Russ has made a huge, very important impact in the music scene, not only playing at the highest level and designing awesome products for the drummer, but helping a lot of drummers with his truly inspiring and intelligent modern drummer magazine articles. When he plays, you feel a really musical drummer, and when he speaks, you know you are in the presence of a wise musician and humble human being.
