In my personal opinion, the best drummer of all time. If you can't agree with that, the best hi-hat manipulator of all time! What a guy, such a rare combination of feel and style. Very few can come close to replicating his feel and hit placements. I don't doubt his time in the Middle East totally influenced his one-drop style beats, as well as reggae. "Wrapped Around My Finger" has the coolest Arabian feel because of Stew and I'm sure that influenced Andy's very Eastern style progressions and notes. His feet are ridiculous, listen to his bass drum placements on some tracks and it sounds impossible not to mention the left foot working that hat feel. Unreal player. I know there are so many that may be "technically" better, but I'm less interested in speed and robotics and math than someone who has a true voice. You KNOW it's Stewart when he's playing. I've always dreamed of playing guitar against Stewarts drums. I mean come on, no one I've ever played with can do "Walking On The Moon" properly and he never actually "hits" the freaking snare! It's all hi-hat, rimshot and bass drum interplay. So simple and ridiculously complicated.
I agree with you. There's incredibly skilled drummers and feel oriented drummers. Then there's the rare guys where their personality blends with high skills with a lot of passion. There's never mistaking their playing. Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, Bonham, George Hurley, Stewart Copeland and more. Hard to say these guys are better than Vinnie Calaiuta or JoJo Mayer or others at that level but Stewart's playing has an incredible feel.
I'll agree with this: he is a Master Musician whose drumming continues to have a major influence on music. I am not down with this "best of all time" stuff. How do you determine that Stewart Copeland is "better" than, say, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones or Buddy Rich ? Let alone "better" than, say, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts, John Bonham, or Joey Jordison. But I think it's fine to say you LIKE Copelands drumming style the best. I'm a total fan myself!!!!
Stewart is so articulate, intelligent and entertaining and a joy to listen to in any interview I've seen of him and this one was by far one that went really deep and covered a lot of ground of his career & life. Thank you Dom.
He surely is, not many intelligent people can express their ideas very clearly like he does. I dare to say that even if he had not choose music as his career he will be successful no matter what. The world needs more people like him.
He's right! I picked up guitar at 48 and at 56, I'm pretty good and getting better. In a band that plays gigs, etc. And my brain has definitely benefited as has my attitude.
Copeland never missed a chance to ridicule Peart and Rush's prog. music when they were competing. But Stewart admitted it was all BS and he never meant it.
Uhh... You need to visit the SACRED GROVE... RIGHT HERE ON UA-cam!!! Copeland is in the habit of inviting musicians to his home, getting them drunk and recording them trying to play! It does not withstand repeated viewing though... Sad. Copeland is pretty good playing drunk, but not Peart! IMHO
Stewart Copeland is someone who should be teaching kids ( and adults ) music. Sharing his knowledge, experience and talent would produce amazing musicians like himself.
Dom is one of those guys who, from interview to interview, pretty much asks the same questions, but they are very open questions, he doesn't interrupt, is enthusiastic, and he gets the guest to open up like very few can. He is great.
What Stewart said about the flow coming through you and music being available in waves for some people: he described it so perfectly. I remember Ed Van Halen saying something very similar. He’s put things on later albums that he wrote when he was 20- something, I mean it sounds fresh too! Beautiful interview! 👍 I love Stewart! It’d be great to hang out with him for an afternoon. Awesome personality, an inspiration and an example of living true to yourself and being happy. He has a UA-cam channel by the way.
My first HIFI system (1990) was bought with that Copeland drum sound in mind ! It had to give that snappy precise sound and details total justice ! That's how I appreciate Stewart's sound !
It's nice to see an old-timey musician turn out well-spoken and still fun to be around. He's also full of stories about a fascinating and tragically lost phase of the history of Lebanon -- a very Westernized Beirut, a chapter of history that came to a tragic close during the Reagan-era 80s.
Stewart is so enthusiastic and really draws one in with his movements and physical descriptions of things, such as the vault jar. lol. What a talented and intelligent and genuine musician. I also like his advice that he received from his father, such as, not only are you just a drummer, you're a musician and an entertainer. In other words kids, don't limit one's self, keep an open mind, and be confident.
electrizer well, it's Stewart, it's indeed a great interview, of a passionate man about music, he's also indeed an incredible drummer who has gone on to influence almost anyone who was willing to listen, and that's a LOT of folks when your band is/was the police. So I wouldn't say biased, but more an appropriate assessing of the last 45 minutes.
36:02 HOLY crap, it's awesome to hear Stewart label his Spyro music as some of his best. That is very surreal, considering his amazingly involved career. Also, I would KILL to see Spyro performed orchestrally!
If I had to choose one guy to go and have a few beers with, without doubt it would be Stewart Copeland. His enthusiasm is infectious and he can can tell a decent story alright.
I just love the way Dom conducts all these interviews, the subjects are all relaxed and completely extroverted and Dom gets all this with respect and love. Awesome Dom, thank you...
To hear a famous band member like him speak so well of his bandmates is refreshing. I'd love to hear Andy Sommers talk and see if he has the same articulate flow.
No wonder this famous great musician is also a filmmaker. He's got storytelling running through his veins...and fountains of it... Just listen to to the first 11 minutes and see.
I think, as far as musician interviews, Stewart Copeland of Police and Steve Lukather of Toto give the best interviews. Humble, insightful, and informative. Good stuff! 😊😊
Crazy to think how quickly the years have passed! He's now in his mid/late 60's and was only 28 when I'd first gotten into The Police and his drumming! :-O
I wish he'd asked him about "Spirits in the material world", the song.Where did he come up with that ????Some of his drumming and drum sounds were just so good....
hearing him talk you realise how rare it is for a musician at that level to still be enthusiastic and such a great communicator. more power to you Stewart
True genius. The fact that he was one of the best RnR musicians of all time then he hit a 180 and created one of the best video game soundtracks ever is amazing. Only the greats can connect with multiple generations like that

I love how positive mr Copeland is when it comes to new technology. A lot of the other legends that have been interviewed have a very dark outlook on the future and the state of music and technology.
I just love Stewart Copeland! Still listen to Spyro, Dead Like Me, Orchestralli, Leopard Son, The Rhythmatist and The Equalizer and everything else. All of it is just the amazing music stuff :) I also write my own music in the style of Stewart Copeland, in Spyro style to be exact, such an inspirational work.
MrModez Pineapple Spyro 1 was absolutely one of the best Soundtracks in Gaming History. I STILL LISTEN TO IT TOO. Copeland better be in charge if a remaster ever happens!!!
Apart from his monstrous drumming technique, Dom Famularo has got the most amazing speaking voice. I saw him at a Drum Clinic here in Perth, Western Australia........he is the only drummer that I have ever seen to play syncopated rudiments on the rims of his glasses during a drum solo........ unbelievable!
What a great drummer, musician and person..I fully.agree w plug and play,I held myself up for so many years thinking the sound had 2 be perfect that I lost it all in waiting. .Thank You Dom!!!
Such a good interview. Copeland's energy and appreciation for life is palpable. And Dom is such a talented and enthusiastic interviewer with a deep knowledge of the musician's craft. Great video and sound too. Thanks for posting these quality interviews. Kudos.
Thanks Ken...for recognizing we really want to give the musicians the best knowledge, interview style & quality video to Enjoy*Enrich*Educate*Empower you!!
Can't say enough about the production quality as well as the knowledge imparted to young musicians. Should be a part of the curriculum of any music school offering mentorship and practical advice. You guys are good.

Great comments & yes....amazing drummer!
What do you mean by one-drop style beats?

Driven to tears, walking on the moon, the list could go on and on. What he did with the Police is the best drumming in rock history.
I could listen to a three hour podcast with Stewart Copeland
Stewart is so articulate, intelligent and entertaining and a joy to listen to in any interview I've seen of him and this one was by far one that went really deep and covered a lot of ground of his career & life. Thank you Dom.
Check out www.thesessions.org , we are working to empower musicians!
Hey thanks, will do!!!
He surely is, not many intelligent people can express their ideas very clearly like he does. I dare to say that even if he had not choose music as his career he will be successful no matter what. The world needs more people like him.
I said the same thing. He is a professor.
The Buddy Rich of rock!!!...kids should never miss out Mr.Copeland
and reggae, etc
I could listen to Copeland talk for hours honestly.
same here. I love this man
Get the audiobook for his autobiography, Strange Things Happen. I bought it after wanting it for years. One of my favorite purchases in recent months.
not surprised the italians like him, putting energy into communication - whether with honesty or not still reveals the soul
This guy is fascinating. Holy smokes.
Obviously a great drummer but I think he also wrote the best, most haunting Police song.. ('Darkness' from Ghost in The Machine)
The power of being positive.
Its Ok you can suck... what a nice professionell Rock Heroe its only Musik no limits. Thats kind of ZEN.
And genius will also help. You can be as positive as you want but if there isn't genius you ain't gonna do squat.
the two funniest drummers in the world together in a video! Fantastic! RIP Dom
How many rock and roll legends would admit to playing the trombone? Probably none. Kudos to Mr. Copeland.
He's right! I picked up guitar at 48 and at 56, I'm pretty good and getting better. In a band that plays gigs, etc. And my brain has definitely benefited as has my attitude.
Love love love Stewart Copeland 😊👍🏼👍🏼
It would be amazing to listen to Stewart and Neil Peart talking like this together.
I would pay for that.
Not gonna happen.
IMHO
@@SuperUnbeliever You have a tremendous grasp of the obvious
Stewart Copeland is someone who should be teaching kids ( and adults ) music. Sharing his knowledge, experience and talent would produce amazing musicians like himself.
No more coffee for Stewart! Honestly, he is captivating and I've been a fan since day one.
i wanna sit down with Stewart and Zappa some day......
Now I understand where the personality behind his drumming comes from. He really is one unique dude!
A musician and philosopher with a great sense of humor. Who knew?
What an outstanding interviewer. I’ve not previously seen this gentleman, but he’s reserved, studied, and allows the guest to be the guest. Bravo!
Thank you Cool One! We are fortunate to have Dom Famularo on our team, empowering musicians!
I was just going to comment the same thing! Fantastic interviewer. And you can tell that Copeland is feeding off of his enthusiasm. Great job.
Dom is one of those guys who, from interview to interview, pretty much asks the same questions, but they are very open questions, he doesn't interrupt, is enthusiastic, and he gets the guest to open up like very few can. He is great.
I fucking hate him :D
I politely disagree. He seems like he has never heard of Mr. Copeland before. Very general and empty questions.
Stewart is such an entertaining chap! He wrote a great book- on audio - that chronicles his life in his own animated voice.
Thanks for the intel. on that pup. TSD! Will def. be looking into it!
Copeland has so much energy & passion for music...what a guy. Very inspired 👌
If there is anything better than listening to S.C. playing drums.......its listening to him talk about music.
This was absolutely brilliant. I love how young Stewart has stayed over the years. I also love his choice of words.
What Stewart said about the flow coming through you and music being available in waves for some people: he described it so perfectly.
I remember Ed Van Halen saying something very similar.
He’s put things on later albums that he wrote when he was 20- something, I mean it sounds fresh too!
Beautiful interview! 👍
I love Stewart! It’d be great to hang out with him for an afternoon. Awesome personality, an inspiration and an example of living true to yourself and being happy.
He has a UA-cam channel by the way.
Could listen to Copeland all day great enthusiasm
Two of the best drummers on the planet!!!!LOVE DOM!!!LOVE STEWART!!!!!
What an intelligent, insightful, enjoyable conversation to behold.
I could listen to Mr Copeland all day , talking or playing , the man is music incarnate
My first HIFI system (1990) was bought with that Copeland drum sound in mind ! It had to give that snappy precise sound and details total justice ! That's how I appreciate Stewart's sound !
One of the best interviews I've ever watched, love his playing and his character

No bullshit with Stewart. The man is a master. Period! Great job
Stewart moves around like an octopus when talks. In this interview he had just as much body movement as he did playing the whole Zenyatta Mondatta lp.
Stewart has always been one of my favorite drummers. He's great.
"Technology has brought music back to the camp fire". That is beyond philosophy or wisdom.
Loved the Police .Killer drumming ! Great to hear all these cool stories from Stewart
Don seems like a very positive and wonderful guy. Stewart is just captivating...always.
Glad you enjoyed it! They are both are amazing!
Synchronicity it’s one of the most technical solid albums ever made
great interview. one of the greatest and inarguably, most influential drummers of all time.
Biased much?

lol!!! if you say
but, oh god.......... what a pretentious doofus.
Stewart Copeland, what an interesting, entertaining and charismatic guy !
Such a great interview. SC is so interesting and fun and an interviewer who brings it out in him without getting in the way.
He has progressively become a better speaker if you watch interviews of him from the 80s, 90s and these days.
i just watched him on letterman 1984 he was exhausted and glum
36:02 HOLY crap, it's awesome to hear Stewart label his Spyro music as some of his best. That is very surreal, considering his amazingly involved career. Also, I would KILL to see Spyro performed orchestrally!
Nobody loves Stewart as much as Stewart loves Stewart.
I might.
I do. He's a brilliant with a voice, as a musician and a person.
If I had to choose one guy to go and have a few beers with, without doubt it would be Stewart Copeland. His enthusiasm is infectious and he can can tell a decent story alright.
In a stewart Copeland interview you learn and laugh too.Good stuff.
Stewart is quite a character, I'm not surprised at all that he used to play trombone!
he's absolutely delightful
What a joy this guy is!
brilliant dude...so clear and unfettered...ageless wonder. clearly see how he could get under sting's skin...magic confrontation
I just love the way Dom conducts all these interviews, the subjects are all relaxed and completely extroverted and Dom gets all this with respect and love. Awesome Dom, thank you...

One of the few things on my bucket list is to meet Stewart one day. What a legendary man.
listening to an interview with Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart. two of the best
He has a good sense of humor haha, stewart is the best!
No wonder this famous great musician is also a filmmaker. He's got storytelling running through his veins...and fountains of it... Just listen to to the first 11 minutes and see.
...and he had a great interviewer to egg him on. What a great interview!
Stew is a witty, great guy. Very down to earth.
love listening to copeland talk, really interesting dude. best drummer in the world as well!
such a charismatic guy... really inspirational
Great interview. Probably the best Stewart Copeland I've ever seen. The Force will be with him always..
Dude radiates so much energy.
Simply amazing. The man, the talent, all of it.
The Energy is still there! 😁 grew up with his drumming and jeff porcaro's . My 2 greatest at that time!!
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY GOLD!!!
Thank you! Be sure to subscribe to our channel, so you see all of our interviews!
I think, as far as musician interviews, Stewart Copeland of Police and Steve Lukather of Toto give the best interviews. Humble, insightful, and informative. Good stuff! 😊😊
A lot of energy for a man of his age - a lot of directed energy. Impressive.
Intelligent, articulate, passionate ! Beyond drumming and musicianship. This shoukd be required listening material for all teenagers.
He sounds like he lives with an IV with Starbucks attached to him all day. Definitely entertaining
5 hour energy
Nah. He mainlining that black tar truck stop coffee.
Stewart's a cool guy, i dig his all his philosophies and his approach to music.
Hell yeah! One of my all time favorite drummers!!
He is for sure one of the most intelligent musicians that’s ever lived
Crazy to think how quickly the years have passed! He's now in his mid/late 60's and was only 28 when I'd first gotten into The Police and his drumming! :-O
Best drummer ever? Subjective as ever, impossible to say. Best interview subject ever? Every bit as likely. Definitely in the conversation.
I wish he'd asked him about "Spirits in the material world", the song.Where did he come up with that ????Some of his drumming and drum sounds were just so good....
SITMW, was always a personal favourite of mine!
he's always interesting to listen to, love that guy

SO many comments about, Stwart. Rightfully so. But can everyone take a second to appreciate Dom. What a guy and what a drummer
Agreed! Dom does a great job with our interviews, be sure to check out 100's others he has done on our channel!
So great. Mr Copeland is very chatty !! Love it.
I just love Stewart Copeland! Still listen to Spyro, Dead Like Me, Orchestralli, Leopard Son, The Rhythmatist and The Equalizer and everything else. All of it is just the amazing music stuff :)
I also write my own music in the style of Stewart Copeland, in Spyro style to be exact, such an inspirational work.

Love that series Dead Like Me. What to say about this record: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klark_Kent_(album)
Happy 65th Birthday Stewart Copeland
Apart from his monstrous drumming technique, Dom Famularo has got the most amazing speaking voice. I saw him at a Drum Clinic here in Perth, Western Australia........he is the only drummer that I have ever seen to play syncopated rudiments on the rims of his glasses during a drum solo........ unbelievable!
Thanks Benjamin! We are so glad to have him as part of The Sessions!
Stewart and Simons are my favourite drummer they are so meticulous in their crafts..
I always knew Stewart was a great drummer. I didn't know he was a manic musical genius! I can so relate.
WOW!!! Truly the life of the party!
Imagine, for one moment, being at Thanksgiving dinner with the Copelands...with Stewart and Miles on overdrive....that would be something!
Thank God someone mentions Mitch Mitchell. One of my top 3 all time.
Yea ....Mitch ..rolling Mitch floating Mitch...
No disrespect to Buddy Miles, but Mitch was the only drummer for Jimi!
Thom Cote I am still getting goosebumps just by listening to Lofty Castle!
It is quite a pleasure listening to these two gentlemen.
What a great drummer, musician and person..I fully.agree w plug and play,I held myself up for so many years thinking the sound had 2 be perfect that I lost it all in waiting. .Thank You Dom!!!
a boundless sphere of energy. awesome.
This is the best of the drummer interviews.
I always loved Stewart's approach and sound. He's such an energetic and positive force who makes great music wherever he is. I also like the very distinct possibility that he's a secret CIA operative.
Such an expressive, high energy, and positive guy, with the ability to look at himself with candour and his unique sense of humour. He really was a game changer in modern music. I'd be surprised if Stewart Copeland was not a really nice guy in everyday life. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Loud mouth equally Loud drums & creativity. Extraordinary Drummer/Percussionist. Full of surprises and keeps the listener interested. Never ever felt bored of listening to him.
